Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun All Inclusive - Puerto Morelos

This is our 5th year in the Rivieria Maya for Spring Break. We are a family of 4 with 2 teenagers 15 and 17. We have always booked thru Hotels.com without ever an issue. Now Sapphire is an average all inclusive. We liked the size of the resort not overly huge and not too small. The food was fine, ate at the restaurants and never had to wait longer than […] 30 minutes. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms big enough and kept clean. The beach is beautiful and you can walk for miles past other resorts in the area. We will probably not return to this resort because their were never enough seats at the pool or beach. The bartenders acted like they were doing you a favor by serving you. WE spent over $400 in tips and it didn't seem to help. The bell men were aggressive with their hands out. Just returned from Now Sapphire after a six day holiday. This is our 5 th year in the Cancun area staying at all inclusives. Pros: rooms are clean and beds comfortable. Beach beautiful and you can walk for a long distance. Food is fine. Cons: bar service in lobby horrendous I stood in line 6 people deep and the bartender asked the man behind me before […] me. I had to have my husband order drinks. You have to constantly tip if you want service. As we were there the week after Easter, there were no chairs anywhere by 5:00am. Preferred members were paying workers to reserve them $20 a day. We did not join the preferred club and heard it was a huge rip off from talk on the beach. Many trying to quit after they signed up. My husband and I stayed in a preferred room at the Now Sapphire for 10 nights in Feb. and wished we had booked a longer trip. The resort was beautiful, the food was good, and the people were friendly. We had dinner in all the restaurants except the Cibu although breakfast there was god. Our favorite was the Lemongrass both the regular menu and Hibatchi. […] If you buy a bottle of wine, you can sit at an outside table at the Lemongrass or Paramour. The water landscaping around these restaurants as well as the main resort area is beautiful. . Puerto Morelos is a little remote but with plenty of entertainment if that's what you like. We had an oceanfront room on the first floor with two double beds. We had asked for a king room but none were available for a couple days so the two double beds were put together and that worked out well. We elected to stay where we were since we loved the room location. We enjoyed the bali beds at the adults only pool. Much more comfortable than ones we've tried in the past. We usually like to spend more time at the beach but we had a few windy days and it was a little chilly so we moved to the pool which was more protected from the wind. I would only suggest a couple improvements. Air conditioning in the gym; It was very hot although I was content with the equipment. We LOVED our stay here. It was our first time staying in an inclusive, and first time to this part of Mexico. We will go back! We arrived Christmas day 2012 and stayed for four nights. Everything went pretty well, but the only complaint was that on New Years eve, the only way you could go and eat somewhere is with a purchase of a $100 bottle of wine. That was the cheapest price. Having paid a good price for the trip itself for an all inclusive resort, they should not MAKE you buy anything.

They did not alert me to any of the amenities nor where the individual facilities on the property were, did not tell me where the restaurants were located nor the reservation types, did not advise me as to the preferred client upgrade, did not give me a check out voucher to leave the grounds at […] the end of our stay. Wireless service which was extra was horrendous, you needed to be within 25 -50 feet of the router, no reception in the rooms at all. Exercise facility for a property as new as this was atrocious, not kept up, machines were over 50% inoperable. Service staff was great, bartenders were at times distracted. Just got back from staying at this hotel, my husband I and were very disappointed. From the moment we got there we were not able to get our room until it was exactly 3pm. Pool was always super dirty, the "adults pool" was horrible nothing to it. I was looking to laying out the whole time there, now since the adults pool was for nice and quiet relaxation […] they never had any chairs available or the beds that are in the pool. So I had to go to the regular side and hear the same music playing over and over again and oh also listening to the "entertainment staff" they were very annoying and did not know what they were doing. The food was ok, nothing special, pretty much offered the same thing in all restaurants, all desserts were horrible. The drinks are soooo watered down, I never got a good buzz the whole 8 days nor my husband and we drank a lot. Even the coke was watered down. All the bartenders were very rude unless you tipped them, and even if you did, they still made the drinks horrible. The beach was full of green stuff around not pretty and my husband got stung by a jellyfish. We were pretty disappointed with the beach. Make sure to rent a car, cause the hotel taxi is $40 each way to either Playa del carmen or cancun, insane price for the closeness of these towns. Pillows suck. Plus they never changed the sheets our whole 7 nights. Oh and say "NO" upon checking in, they are always selling the tour of the Dreams hotel. Read more

The resort was very nice. The food was not that great. Nice long beach that was never crowded. The resort says tips are included but the staff doesn't make you feel that way. They gladly accept tips and obviously give preferential treatment to guests that tip which would be fine except no one at the resort could give you change for 20s without converting […] it all to pesos making it hard to have ones to tip the bartenders. But overall the resort was nice and the staff was friendly and I would recommend it to freinds. I was advised by the travel agent that this was a 5 star resort. I would say a 3 1/2 at best. The only positive thing about this hotel was that we got a substantial discount on the room. One major thing to note was that if you plan to spend time swimming at beach at the hotel, this is not the place for you. The water is full of seaweed due to the reef offshore. We just came back from our vacation in Mexico, we went there for our 10th Anniversary with my husband and 2 kids. The resort overall is very nice and clean, staff was friendly. Our kids are 9 and 3 years old, so the Explorer's club for the kids was great, they loved being there. And girls who watched the kids were very nice. Food was fine, we mostly […] ate in a buffet. Our favorite restaurant was CIBU, they have a great atmosphere with relaxing music. We also liked the pool with a bar, we did not drink a lot but still it was a great idea to swim and have a drink when without leaving the pool. Negatives: 1. Transportation was not included when we purchased the deal on Expedia. So, we had to pay a lot for transportation to the hotel and back. The taxi is around $40 but the guys at the airport who offer transportation offer the price $24 per person. 2. This time of year Sept, October the beach is full of seaweed, if you want to swim in the sea put on the swimming suit with long sleeves, I had an allergy reaction on some seaweed. 3. In order to go to an excursion with my husband we hired the baby sitter at the resort, had to pay $30 for her transportation and $10 per hour, which was a lot! Kids spent the whole day in a lobby instead of the explorer's club because kids club manager did not allow, we signed all papers the day before and nobody ever told us that our kids could not stay there. We stayed at Now Jade before so we decided to try a different one out, glad we did. I think this is the better one out off all of the two. The pool is bigger, plus the restaurants have a no RSVP policy! The walkout beach is nice with a beach bar on the beach so if you are into the beach scene with a cabana, or beach chairs with umbrellas then this maybe your spot. Bring bunch of dollar bills or $5. Great place. Israel was amazing at the perferred pool. The staff was great and was there for anything you may need. The only thing I have to say bad is dinner service does take time. Most nights it took over 2hrs for dinner and we missed most of the entertainment shows.

We upgraded to the preferred rooms and loved the beach front-we stayed on the first floor and was able to walk out to the beach from our patio. The ocean was not a great experience due to the coral reef being so close which meant there was sea weed at the bottom and i couldn't handle stuff being around my feet and not seeing what it was. The water was far from blue. The spa staff told me the wrong rates on both of my massages when I booked so when I finished and went to pay it was a completely different rate, disappointing. However the staff were very helpful and nice and explained all of the features of the spa to us. All of the staff throughout the hotel were very nice and tentative to your needs. Read more

This was a really nice, initimate hotel. I was there for my sister's wedding and we were a group of 35 people. everyone was very accomodating and pleasant (except for the Olympus Tours lady Mary who helped with airport transfers and who was not nice nor pleasant). This is the perfect place for a wedding but I would go back with a significant other one day too! I had a ground level room and did have some ants but that is expected on the ground and I did not leave anything on the floor. If you are going on a romantic trip, request a higher up room since all rooms have a jacuzzi on the balcony and you will want the privacy. I love how close the building/resort was to the ocean/beach and we were able to feel the ocean breezes. Plus we were only 20 minutes from the airport/Cancun and close to activities. One downfall was that you had to drive to go snorkeling/fishing but there were free sailing and kayaking right on the beach next door which was great too! i would definitely recommend this resort! the food was pretty good too, restuarants were worth it and never too much of a wait although reservations would be better. just tip a little and you get a lot! its worth it! The Now Sapphire is a wonderful resort for a very relaxing vacation. I upgraded to Preferred status and recommend it for what I wanted, which was a quiet, serene, get away from it all relaxing, recharging vacation. The Preferred lounge is over-rated but the exclusivity of the Preferred pool (Israel is an awesome valet for Preferred pool guests!), access […] to the Bluegrill beachfront breakfast, proximity of the Preferred lodging (we stayed in Building 2) closest to the water, complimentary 1 hour humidity spa experience and private check-in made upgrading well worth it for us. While there were plenty of kids/teens, with so many activities for them alone, we rarely if ever noticed them. Cesar made terrific non-alcoholic drinks for us at the Preferred pool and Israel reserved us a palapa every day we wanted one. We did get roped in to listening to a 3 hour timeshare spiel at Dreams but for the $120 in leisure cash to pay down our full day Cozumel excursion made it ok (but avoid it and you won't miss anything). Kayaking, wind surfing, katamarand sailing - all free for an hour at a time. Men, bring a pair of slacks because the Paramour (French restaurant) and Cibu (the Mediterranean restaurant) were worth it and our favorites. Tips aren't necessary but bring $40-$50 singles and every employee we tipped we're incredibly appreciative of it. Portions at the restaurants were plenty big enough. We were offered and purchased the wireless interent for the entire week so my spouse could check his emails for work. Would have been nice to know the only place we could use it was in the lobby or by the pool. Went to play volleyball on the beach. Had a wedding to be at so I went back to the room at 4pm to shower and the staff had not cleaned the room and we had no fresh towels, I used a washcloth to dry. Came home around 9:30pm exhausted from the day and in the hotel building next to us they were jackhammering through concrete. This type of acitivity should be confined to daytime hours only. This is my 8th trip to Cancun and the first time I have ever gotten sick. I drank bottled water only and ate at this hotel the entire time so I know it came from their food handling but I got a bacterial infection which caused a stomach illness that now 2 antibiotics and 7 days later I am just recovering from. The hotel also waters the grounds during the day however the water smells terrible almost like sulfer or toilet water not something I want to smell let alot walk through. Water late at night. Too many things wrong at this hotel that I felt I had to let other travelers know that with so many options available in Cancun I would pick another location to stay at. Read more
