Palace Inn Auburn Hills - Lake Orion

Very nice hotel. Looks a little sketchy as you pull into the parking lot but once you get inside, it's very nicely done. Only complaint is that there isn't any closet space to hang clothes. There was a nice restaurant right next door (the hotel have me 10% off my meal there). Would stay again!

Our stay was fine. Room was away from those of 2 wedding groups so it was quiet. Room was clean, bed was comfortable; we'd asked for a king bed but ended up with 2 double beds (perhaps, that was because of the 2 wedding groups). Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was OK; didn't offer water. The refrigerator with yogurt, eggs, etc, was not cold; […] it didn't feel cold altlhough items were still coo but, not cold. Room was not made up for 2nd night; no place to hang clothing was available other than hook on back of bathroom door. For those who like to read and not just watch TV, the lighting was inadequate; more lamps with stronger wattage would have been appreciated. A small refrigerator and a microwave were available in our room although we had no need of them this trip. We understand the motel is undergoing some renovation; once it's completed, these items may be better, changed, etc. For the price, it was OK. Read more

I have stayed here before and am not the type to give a bad review. That being said this hotel has been remodeled but the refridgerators do not work both times I have stayed. This room we stayed in this time the dead bolt did not line up and my husband is a big guy and could not man handle it to lock. Our last day there the maid staff almost walked […] in on us dressing even though we said not to enter and then came in our room although we said not to after we left. I would have just not cared there but then our sheets had black fuzzys and a few black hairs on it (we do not have black hair). Now the fuzzys could have been from the black zebra blanket on the foot of the bed, but if you are going to come in my room after being told not to you could at least clean it properly. The worst part is the next morning i step in the shower and nearly slip and fall and could not figure out why the floor was so slippery and would not rinse away and so when I got out and tried to put my moroccan hair oil on my hair and discovered the bottle that had been sitting on the counter filled with water I was irrate!!! I told the staff at the counter, she took pictures and promised the manager would call, well its been a week and NO call. If it were not that this was already paid ahead by hotels.com I would have refused to pay. This place may have been remodeled, changed names and management, but clearly needs to learn how to properly run a hotel. Read more

This hotel almost feels like it's not meant to be a hotel. The king sized bed rooms do not have a closet. Not only no closet, but not a single hook in site. The outlets are not placed conveniently. An example, no outlets by the desk and only an outlet on one side of the bed. We ended up with a 2 queen bed room, as we preferred a closet, and only one […] wash cloth was left. What did I think of this place, weird. To get into the fitness room you had to go outside. The inside door was barricaded by a trash can as the door knob was missing. I really really really wanted to give this place a 5-star rating. It would have been given at least a 4.5 (even though the carpet in room 222 could be redone or at least deep steam cleaned (as well as the chairs) except for the fact that there were toe nail clippings under the bed (on a "pedastal" so just under the mattress edge). I found a housekeeper […] in the hall and she immediatey vacuumed; however, when I checked again, it was still there. I picked it up (and other small debris) up with tissue and took it to the front desk to let them know. Either the manager or head of housekeeping apologoized profusely and came back to the room with a different vacuum. I do have to say that the people there are VERY nice and want to accomodate your every need. The bathroom was very clean and the linens were clean. The bed itself was too hard for my comfort. The pool was very warm and nice. There were a few pieces of "something" on the bottom at shallow end ... didn't want to find out what that was ... twigs? Not sure. But I wasn't detered there. my stay was good but if you are serving Breakfast till 9 am then it should be kept stocked with food at 8 30 am I went in to have Breakfast and there was nothing but pastries and I waited till 9 am and nothing else was brought out. so you should say breakfast till we run out other wise keep it filled with food

The hotel is underrated. This is at least a 2.5 star property...perhaps a 3 star. If it had a restaurant it would certainly be 3 star...but there's an excellent Italian restaurant literally across the parking lot. The room was large and comfortable. Very satisfied with the hotel on our first stay. Didn't expect a pool or exercise room at the price. We wanted to be close to the many hiking and cycling trails in the Rochester/Auburn Hills area and this location was ideal. Only suggestion was to add a coat rack or two to the room, as no closet for hanging clothes. I enjoyed my stay other than the lady that came to my room at about 11:30 a.m. I was getting ready to leave I had my coat on but my daughter was still finishing up. The lady was rude and said next time if we need more time we have to call the front desk because checkout was at eleven. I told her I knew when checkout was and that I was on my way out. […] She repeated herself again as if she was so irritated I stayed past checkout. Previous occupant mail found in room. Inadequate pillows and blankets (got some after calling). NO PLACE TO HANG UP CLOTHES. Had requested 2 beds - got a king. Desk personnel NOT interested in how our stay was. Breakfast area so crowded it was impossible to partake of the "free" breakfast.

Key card did not work second day. Swimming pool did not open as scheduled on the morning of my departure, so I could not take my daily swim. Made Reservation 2 weeks prior and paid, so they knew we were coming.We had a second floor room, through a door into a second hallway. It was 98 degrees out side and it was 98 in the hallway and in our room. It took an hour for our room to get a comforable temp. Went to check out Hotel while cooling. Thought Pool was closed because pushed on 2 doors […] and they did not open. Later seen people in and asked hours of Pool. I told them the doors were locked and they said push real hard. My Husband had to use his body to slam hard. Asked for late check out and assurd it was fine, but when we returned at 12:30pm we were locked out.Room had no pen, paper,Phone book, Hotel details, Basic TV. Positives: Modest but clean room. Better than average free breakfast bar included hot dishes. Staff curteous and friendly. Only (1) negative: refrigerator next to bed loud & annoying. However, I did mention it to desk during checkout & a note was made of it. Overall, it was a positive experience.
