"Not too far from beach"
You need to stay at a beach front hotel to get to the beach close to the hotel. No microwave. Small TV but no TV Guide for the cable. Staff are nice and there is a restaurant at the hotel. If you have a way to get to the beach then it's a cheap way to go but I wanted a hotel where I can walk to the beach.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel. Older but extremely well amintained"
Staff is wonderful. Dive boat at hotel with excellent operator. Can catch fish right off of pool deck in channel. Older but clean as a pin and perfectly maintained. Most of room is modern but bathroom fixtures are dated but still in perfect working order. Close to Port Lucaya but without the high prices. Excellent restaurant on premises with very good […] pricing. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The Inn shows it's age and isn't the most modern stay, but was comfortable nonetheless. You get what you pay for. This is a genuine mom & pop stay with amazing staff who are more then happy to assist with plans. There isn't direct beach access but it's located on the water. I'd visit again.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel at good location"
My wife and I only spent one night at this hotel because we moved to our timeshare location the following night. But our stay was very comfortable, the staff was very friendly, and the hotel is conveniently located across the bay from the Lucaya marketplace. The hotel also has a dive shop on-site, so we signed up to dive with their team, Presley and […] Jerry. My wife had been wanting to get scuba certified, and they made it possible. "Good budget option"
We liked the Inn and would stay again. We liked that there was a tour coordinator in residence so we could learn about things to do and she could arrange them. It is a fair walk to any beaches, marketplace, or restaurants and there are no bicycles there to borrow or rent, and taxis are very expensive. "Good hotel base for vacation"
Our family spent Christmas vacation at Bell Channel Inn. While not on the beach (and thus more affordable), it made an excellent base for venturing out everyday with our rental car as the numerous white sand beaches have free public access. Gorgeous white sand Taino Beach is only five or ten minutes away by car as is the more touristy Lucaya Beach (park […] at the Port Lucaya Marketplace and find the beach access lane near the police station). The convenient on-site restaurant was open all day until 11:00 p.m. and since the food was very good we ate most of our meals on the premises. We changed rooms after the first night because we were next to the restaurant and could hear a good bit of noise. However, the staff was very helpful when we asked to change rooms and allowed us to choose from a few we looked at. Good motel style clean rooms, hot water, refrigerator in room, and excellent wireless internet. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Great staff. Friendly and go out of their way to be helpful. Nice restaurant on property. Great live music Friday and Saturday eves. Diving operaton located on site. "close to the beach and downtown"
Its nice to stay at this hotel because the receptionists are good in welcoming their guests. The hotel is also clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very impressive. The staff is so friendly, and it is family owned, but there is so much to this hotel. The Restaurant they have on site is amazing, its affordable (which is rarity on the island) and they give you a ton of food. The rooms are nice, and it has WIFI in the rooms. The TVs are the old style tube TV's, but that's not really a complaint to […] me. I feel the Bell Channel Inn is a great stay, mainly because it is so close to port lucaya (about a 10-15minute walk away) and from there you can catch a bus to anywhere you need to go. If your looking for a resort, this is not that type of place, but for a hotel it offers way more than other hotels on the island can offer! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not a bad choice for the price"
The hotel itself is well kept and clean, the staff could be a little more courteous, specially the lady in charge of information on tours and activities. On google maps it looks like the hotel is about 3-5 min walk from the beach but you have to go around the harbor and it is a good 15 minute walk which could be a drag when coming back at night. It […] does have a nice partial view of the harbor and it is relatively quiet. Not a bad choice for the price. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The event coordinator (Ginny) is fabulous! I liked her. She really took care of me. The staff is friendly but the hotel really sucks. It's run down and old. 1) Small ants in room bothered my children. 2) Hotel lists pool as solar heated. First class attitude from everyone from owner to the room service staff. Clean, neat and everything worked. "Nice place with reasonable prices"
We stayed here for three nights last month. Our spacious upstairs room overlooked the channel, which made for a nice view. Too bad the guardrail for the balcony was of a closed design which blocked a lot of the view. A car is a must during your stay here, the only thing within walking distance is besides the restaurant/bar in the hotel, is a bar next […] door. The Marketplace will be a bit further to walk but doable. It is not advised to walk in the neighborhood after dark. The bar/restaurant in the hotel has good food and reasonable prices. They have a happy hour daily, too. We were able to prepare most of our meals in the room; but finding a well-stocked grocery store was a challenge. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

In laid-back Freeport, this hotel fits the atmosphere. "Value for money and spacious room."
The hotel is value for your money. Looking for a place to relax for a day. Its offer privacy for those of you who wants the convenience of going to Lacuya yet dont want to stay at the heart of things. This is the place for you. Its a 15 to 20mins slow walk to Lacuya. The room is spacious and offer you 2 kings size bed with a kitchen area/ fridge. The […] cleaniness is moderate. Clean but could be better and there room for improvement. Going on a Saturday evening, its a bit noisy as the music playing over at Lacuya could be heard from my room. But they wrap things up at 12am. Plus point. Only drawback is bathroom is facing the corridor and you need to becareful of exposure. Make sure you close the window or risk mooning your neighbour. Friendly staff and would recomend for people who is mobile. Family with children and elderly may want to reconsider as it maybe a long walk to the hub of things, unless you have your own transport. "Worthy stay at Bell Channel Inn"
If you're looking for a no-frills hotel and willing to roam about in surrounding beaches, then Bell Channel Inn is highly recommended. "My Winter Getaway February 2014"
02/27/14 Yvette44 Valley Stream, New York
My family and I had a relaxing and restful time at the Bell Channel Inn. The food in the Restaurant Upstairs was also very good. In the evenings, we loved having drinks at the Bar in the restaurant upstairs, the cocktails were yummy, conversations were good and prices were Great! The BCI is also located close to shopping and beautiful beaches, we could walk there! It was a 10 minute walk. And we visited several beautiful beaches that were only a 10-15 minute bus/taxi ride away. But the best part was our Hostess Genie. She suggested places to go for beaches, shopping, eating, sight seeing. She made sure that we were enjoying ourselves the whole trip.
"Great place to stay"
01/23/14 Edward F Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
I recently stayed at the Bell Channel Inn for the second time. If you are a diver, this is the place to stay. The family run dive shop is on the premises and the dive boat leaves from a dock in back of the inn. The Upstairs, a restaurant/bar, is, as the name suggests, upstairs. The food is good and reasonably priced. The inn is older but well maintained. It is a bit of a walk to Taino Beach but I did it daily. The staff is friendly and kind. If you don't want to walk, I'd rent a car. The two "don't miss" things on this island to me are Gold Rock Beach and The Garden of The Groves. Both are far enough out there that you need a car or a tour bus. The front desk will arrange whatever you want to see or do. This is not a resort, but it is reasonably priced nice place with a first rate staff. The next time I go to Grand Bahama Island this is where I will stay. Do yourself a favor and go out to the unspoiled eastern parts of the island, using the BCI as a base of operations is a good way to go.
"5 Stars From A Former Travel Reporter"
01/02/14 Cheryl H Oxford, Ohio
I wanted to stay for one week at a smaller hotel connected to a diving operation on Grand Bahamas, which is quieter than Nassau. I selected The Bell Channel Inn and Caribbean Diving because of BCI's webpage. When you have 10 different nations represented on any given weekend and staff members who've worked there more than 15 years, something special is going on. The hotel, the view from my balcony, the staff and the diving were outstanding. I stayed from 12/21-12/28, and four different women who work there invited me into their homes to celebrate Christmas with their families. Now THAT is Grace. I went diving instead. The Dive Masters are rock solid, and I learned that I was born to dive coral reefs. I will be back at BCI in 2014, probably with several friends in tow.
"ok, but not very good"
09/07/13 bosnic_belkisa Ljubljana, Slovenia
We stayed here for a week. The place itself is nice (big rooms, swimming pool), but it's too far away from a decent beach. Therefore you need a taxi. If you want to go shopping, a taxi again. So, we ended up renting a car. And that you should go! That way you get something out of the island. Go to Gold Rock Beach and Paradise Cove. Stop in one of the villages and buy a fresh conch salad. Be a liittle bit independent. And get ready for high prices! It's not a badi dea to bring some basic food with you if you are an independent traveller. We've been to many places around this globe, but the prices here are just enormous. We went diving with the diving center located at the hotel. It was good, not excellent.
"First Trip to Freeport!"
08/21/13 patientp Ocoee
My husband and I stayed at the Bell Channel Inn on Aug 13 - 15 which was the hotel chosen as part of a 5th Avenue Vacation package. No this is not a hotel that I would have chosen; however, since it was a part of the package my husband and I decided to go with what was offered. The hotel is a much older establishment and definitely on the lower end for affordable cost, however, I must say the staff kept it clean, Genie was wonderful. She went out of her way to make sure we were informed of all the excursions, arranged for transportation and even accompanied us to the Bonfire event. the hotel was within walking distance to Port Lacaya market the main hub in Freeport. However if too hot to walk, you could catch the bus for $1.25 as opposed to a taxi for $6-$10. If you are one of those who wants all the whistles and bells that come with the 4 or 5 star hotels, the Bell Channel is not for you. If you want something on the cheaper end of the scale, friendly staff, close to Port Lacaya then give Bell Channel a try. The staff went out of their way to make our stay with them both enjoyable and pleasant. thank you Genie for making our stay at the Bell Channel a great one.
"Great stay, above my expectation."
The people were very friendly and accommodating. The prices for all the excursions were cheaper through them than any other hotel or the cruise boat we came in on. The upstairs restraint was pretty descent food (there French Toast with fresh coconut was the best meal I had my entire trip). The scuba dive people in there parking lot were really cool. It was my first dive and they made it an awesome experience and even allowed me to go on another dive because I had done so well. After the dive they even showed us around the island and took us to a local bar so we didn't have to pay a taxi. The only 2 issues were you either had to walk 15 minutes to get anywhere or pay 8 bucks for a taxi to get to the market. And the water pressure in the shower was horrible. But I really felt I got great value for my money would definitely recommend it.

"Great Scandinavian operated hotel"
06/28/13 Molinator Palma de Mallorca
I had the opportunity to stay at the Bell Channel Inn for about 5 nights together with my colleagues. Upon arrival we were greeted with ice cold orange water along with a BIIIG white Bahamian smile. Instantly we all felt at home, and any request we had there after was dealt with in a friendly manner. The rooms were large and clean, and all came with a fridge, A/C, TV, WIFI and if I remember right, a couple of hot plates, if you prefer to do your own cooking. The Balcony was large and overlooked the pool and the canal facing up towards Port Lucaya. The restaurant had a great menu and the bar was busy with Happy hour between 5 and 7pm. Next door was a popular sports bar called "Red Beard". We watched sports and had dinner there on a couple of occasions, so despite the 4-minutes drive from Port Lucaya, we never felt like being stuck at the hotel. If you SCUBA dive, there is an adjacent dive operation and boat located right on the premises. Parking was also easy. For the "75-100 $-category", I couldn't ask for anymore, in particular not considering the standards of some of the competing hotels in this price range. On a little different not, below I see a review going on about power cuts etc. First of all, we never experienced any of these, and I wouldn't hold the hotel reliable for that, as it is one of these things that just does happen in the islands. Secondly, had we had that issue, I would probably have disconnected my laptop, if it would have been a reoccurring event. The hotel's computers seemed to work alright.. So to add it all up, would I stay here again ? Absolutely, but even better with a rental car to get next-door to Port Lucaya at night.

The hotel wasn't exactly what I had in mind. First off the air conditioning didn't work. It was very noisy. The power went on and off multiple times. Because of that I've lost my MacBook Pro. The unconstant electric power fried my MacBook Pro Motherboard. Which cost over $200 to repair. I'm very frustrated due to the fact they don't want to take any responsibility for that. Since it's because of their poor electric power that cause the damage. They told me to wait for the manager. But he never showed up. Typical hotel serves breakfast or some sort of meal. This one serves nothing. They only had fruit punch to drink. The water was not even purified. It tasted horrible. Because the Air conditioning didn't work. They had huge dusty fans that's very loud. Which made it hard for me to sleep. The internet wasn't constant. So it goes on and off. So they have a lot of improvements to make. I still don't know what they're going to do about my MacBook Pro.
""Great for the small boat owner!""
05/15/13 David P Vero Beach, Florida
If you're lucky enough to book a stay when the slip is available the Bell Channel Inn can't be beat. They have a small floating dock available for one boat up to about 25'. All of the rooms face the pool and the water with easy access for removing equipment, luggage, etc. from your boat after a crossing from the mainland. We've stayed twice at the hotel and find the restaurant, accommodations and the friendly professional staff to our liking. For the divers, a dive shop and dive boat are on the premises. It's laid back and what you want a Bahamas vacation stay to be.
