I read a few of the not so good reviews and was a bit hesitant to book this hotel. I did anyway and am glad I did. I got a great rate from hotels.com and knew I would get a small room (old hotels in NYC = small rooms) but I was upgraded to a lovely queen room. The staff was great and the continental breakfast was more than I had expected. I will definitely stay here again!

This hotel would have been fine if it were not for the extremely hard, cement like mattresses and the huge, hard pillows. We asked if they had rooms with different mattresses and for different pillows, but they had none. I have traveled all over the United States, Europe and Asia; this was the worst bed I have ever slept in. I was traveling with my Mother and best friend, who both agree, if we would not have pre-paid for this hotel, we would have moved to a different one. It was impossible to get comfortable enough to sleep and when you did, waking up was painful. The only other minor problem was when we were enjoying our breakfast in the nice dining area, the dining room manager and her employee stayed in the room and spoke to each other so loudly (I believe in Russian) that it took away from the ambience and it was difficult to have your own conversation. But that could be overlooked or rectified; sadly the other two problems take away from the excellent free breakfast, large room and convenient location. If you need your sleep for business or being a tourist, do not stay here.

I found out about Hotel Metro through a review about another hotel, in which the reviewer described Hotel Metro as superior to his/her choice. I found Hotel Metro to be well kept, clean and nicely appointed. The room is very, very small, but I didn't need any more size than provided. My only minor complaint is that housekeeping evidently undresses the beds of all rooms, and then returns one-at-a-time to make them up, which means I have to stay away for hours, or wait in the unmade room until they return. Otherwise, I had a nice stay.

Hotel Metro is a well placed hotel for a base in New York. The nearest subway station is 50 yards away at the bottom of the street, and the hotel just a few blocks from Time Square/Broadway, and, of course, one block away from the Empire State Building. No problems with the room, it was clean and a reasonable size, also had a room safe. The restaurant attached to the hotel did a very good steak! The rooftop bar (which is open during the summer) gives great views of the Empire State Buidling. This was my second stay at Hotel Metro and I intend to return there next time I am in New York.

Hotel Metro is in a great location...within walking distance from Penn Station if you're traveling from Newark. The subway, Times Square, Macy's, Empire State Building are all within walking distance as well. The hotel room was small but that was to be expected in NYC. The only complaint was that the TV sounded a little fuzzy, but not enough to formally complain to the hotel. The staff was great. The ladies at the continental breakfast were working very hard to make sure that the food was replenished as needed. Overall, a great stay.

I have stayed here twice. It is clean and located two blocks from where the bus I take drops me off and picks up. It is located around the corner from Times Square and Penn Station. The issues I had were simple I purchased a family suite and was expecting a living room and two bedrooms with one bathroom. what I got was one bedroom and two double beds located in what I thought should be the living room. No matter. The other draw back is that one of the beds (mine) was really really hard. Other then that, don't drink the water that is placed next to the beds it is not free. A good pizza place three doors down on the left when you exit/leave the hotel. It is also easy to get cabs as you are located right off of busy streets. The last thing is that on your check out day if you decide to go get breakfast before you checkout make sure you have them recharge you key as it deactivates exactly at the checkout time (11 am or 12 pm?) and you will have to take the elevator down to get to activated.

The "Standard Room" Does not = 1 double bed as listed on this website... it means that you will be in either a 1 double bed OR 2 twin beds... whatever they have available when you check in. My husband and i were on a Romantic weekend getaway and we were stuck with the 2 twin beds. The hotel staff wasn't rude but they could have been a lot more helpful. If it hadn't been for that i would have given this place a 5... but of course you can't get a good nights sleep on a twin bed with your husband... my back still aches...

The gym was also super clean. The main thing that surprised me was the rooftop bar! Hotels.com doesn't advertise the rooftop, they only show a picture. But the rooftop is open to the public for drinks and is awesome during a nice summer night! Oh and btw, we booked a deluxe double on hotels.com and received a family suite when we arrived!!

The Hotel Metro is an excellent location to see the sights. The rooms are comfortable and the staff helpful. The criticism I would have are that during our stay there seemed to be a fault with the fire alarm system. There was an intermitent high pitched beeping noise through out the night causing loss of sleep. They also had a photographer taking photos of the hotel during our stay his attitude was not acceptable forgetting who the hotel was serving namely the guests.

They sell the hop on and off bus tickets also can book you on the airport bus which will pick you up at the Hotel on the day of your departure also you can book it before you arrive for pick up at the airport. For the money we paid we didnt expect such a nice and well run hotel. The art deco style although a little dated, was still impressive, the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was large enough with a good en-suite and was extremely clean. Even though it was minus temperatures and snow outside, it was toasty warm within. The breakfast (complimentary) was basic but offered a good choice of cereals, yoghurts, granola, toasted bagels, muffins, hot drinks and juice... it was a very easy self service, extremely fresh and the breakfast room had a pleasant and cosy atmosphere. The location was fantastic, 10 mins (2/3 blocks) from Times Square and practically on top of Macys! All in all we would definately stay there again!
