The English kitchen bone china includes a charming tea service. The A/C is great! Our terrace was in the shade. The towels are replaced daily.The matress was firm and sheets soft. The safe has a brass key.The office is open 10-3 and "Terry" has a 24/7 cell phone. Bus Tokens may be purchased for $2.50 at the office and Bus Passes may be purchased in Hamilton.The key to the universe in Bermuda is THE BUS PASS.The bus runs every 15 min. until 8:30pm & the stop is at the end of the manicured, paved driveway. The local Pub, "The Swizzle Inn" (since 1940) has fantastic Fish Soup & nightly fresh catch.Yum! You can walk to the Swizzle Inn which is 1/4 mile to the left. Next door is a new Rubis Gas Station/Mini Mart which has soda, water, milk and the best local Brunswick St. Bakery "Creme Buns" and other treats I have ever put in my mouth. We picked this hotel for the reasonal cost and our efficiency unit was on a cliff overlooking the ocean. We were able to eat breakfast out on the porch with a beautiful view. Unfortunately, there was no beach at all, only stairs leading to where it once was. We had to take a bus down the road to the Elbow Beach to enjoy the Bermuda sand and sea.

If you don't mind rust, this place is ok. The patio table was so rusty, pieces where flaking off. The was rust on the lamp shades, the refrig and around the edges of the bath room sinks. the lock did not work well. The a.c. units did not fit the spaces closely.

The experience at Surfside was not bad overall. Room could use some work as far as upgrades but the overall cleanliness was okay and the staff is pleasent. I would definitely recommend for someone on a budget but the location doesn't have much around it except for Swizzle Southside, which had a great Rum Swizzle! Rum swizzles made the trip for me!

The hotel itself is ok. the location is wonderful. There was noone around during our stay which was eery at first, but also was nice. There is a beach, watch out for high tide. There is a pool. There still is no restaurant or bar. The busstop is at the end of the drive. Short ride to Hamilton. Swizzle inn is good alternative once in a while.

Our family has been going to Surf Side for almost 30 years - this time just husband and me for birthday trip. Friendly staff, almost private pool the whole time we were there, love sitting on our cottage (#10) balcony overlooking the surf, fully stocked kitchenette so don't have to eat out every meal. Preferred when they had a restaurant and bar onsite […] but the economy has hurt the island. If you are looking for full service, typical resort or have young kids, you'd be better off at Southampton Fairmont but if you appreciate being on your own, jumping on a scooter and exploring the island, the location is great, the cottages are traditional Bermuda (slightly worn but very clean), flowers everywhere. Depending on the weather, you will have more or less beach but this time there was a decent beach especially at low tide - although we like HorseShoe or LongBay anyway and they are a short ride. Try Island Cuisine on Middle Road for inexpensive meals, Swizzle Inn 2 just down the road, or the early dinner special at five star FourWays Inn - great food and value. Here is the deal. If you want one of the most beautiful and lasting memories of a gorgeous place, stay at the Surfside (all at a very affordable price). You are right on the ocean and have your own private beach (views are Spectacular!) and 90% of the time, you are the only one on it (meaning the beach). There is no restaurant or bar so stop at a market on the way in and pick up booze and groceries----all units have kitchens. Bus stop right at the bottom of the driveway that opens the whole island up to you---also Swizzle Inn (great pub / great food) in walking distance. So here is the last piece. If you are uptight, cannot take care of yourself, want to be pampered, or generally have an "attitude"-----do not stay here. Because laid back folks like myself realize the tremendous treasure we found on the South Shore and would rather not run into you when we return---and we will be back with a cold bucket of beers at the pool handing them out generously just like I did a few days back. for the money, compared to other locations on the island, this is about a C+/B- The worst thing was that the "king" bed was simply two twin beds pushed together with a king sheet over it. that should be a skin in Saturday Night Live... The pool is pretty nice but had a huge "bubble" underneath the shallow end - like the water had seeped underneath the sealant... the water was clean and nice and warm. i noted other reports that touched on the Internet access. short answer: bad. but c'mon! you're in Bermuda. get off line for a few days and relax. this was a great place to "un plug". the bus system is great as is the ferry service. I got a 3 day pass for under $30 US and it allowed for unlimited rides - one time i took the ferry from Hamilton to Rockaway and back just to enjoy the boat ride. ... enjoy Bermuda and if you are used to Motel 8 or Holiday inn, you'll feel ok a the Surf Side. I was there in July 11 - 14th and personally went for Sun, Heat, beach and being outdoors. mission accomplished. personally, I don't mind the humidity. if you do, simply don't do Bermuda in July or Aug. all the best! Well, after our Shuttelbus forgot to drop us off (it was BEELINE, and it took us 1h to get from the airport to the hotel) we arrived at SSBC. As the hotel is situated on a cliff, a short walk is required to reach the beach. It's not private, but of the six times we swam, I think we only saw a total of 10 people! Again, it's on a cliff, so stairs are involved, and, depending on the weather & as mentioned on their website, the beach may be awesome or non-existent (we experienced both as a tropical storm was near on our first day). If you need a better/easier accessible beach, the bus stop is in front of the hotel on the main road. The hotel does have a pool/sitting area, but no bar/restaurant. The ocean called us over the pool, and the Swizzle Inn, a restaurant/bar down the street, took care of our entertainment needs. If you don't want to venture far after a long day, the cabins have a full kitchen, so stock up on groceries and make your own drinks to save a little. Beware though! Wrap all food not to invite bugs from outside! Overall, we had a great time! We were not looking to be fully catered to. Just a place to unwind, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the island.
