Quaint little hotel. Quiet location that is right off the Orient Beach. If you want night life this is not the best location. If you want a quiet location off of a great beach, then this is a good option.

Great location, and that is why we booked here. Right on orient beach. Nothing luxuriant, but it had all that we needed. We didn't get in until late and the staff had our room open and ready for us so we could just check in the next am. Bed was a little hard.

We have been coming to St. Martin for the past 7 years and love it! This year we wanted to try a hotel that was closer to the beach and thought this hotel would be the perfect place. The next night it started the same way, we complained and the owner did call and ask for them to turn down the music. We thought ok maybe it's just because of the holiday, wrong once again in the afternoon's when you want to go back to your room and relax after a long day on the beach beating music rocks in your brain until at least 7 or 8pm. We only stayed for 1 night-waiting for our plane out next day, but we were very pleased with the price/value of this small hotel. No breakfast/lunch/dinner at the hotel, but that was amply compensated by such facilities within 5 minutes of walk.

We have a wonderful week in St. Martin. All though this small hotel is a bit outdated the staff was absolutely wonderful. It is a most wonderful hotel and the manager , Mr. Gerard, who is a French man is really helpful, courteous and warm. He made it a point to remember my name and to greet me each morning. Though it is about 40-45 minutes driving time from the airport and the taxi costs between US$30-35 dollars to get there, the privacy and quiet of the place more than […] makes up for the inconvenience and cost of the taxi ride. It is within 3 minutes to the Orient Bay beach and 8 minutes to the famous Orient Bay Club where full nudity is allowed there and no where else in the island. Naturalists or nudists flock there where they seem so at one with nature. Therefore be prepared to see folks either topless or wearing their birthday suit if you decide to walk there. Beware though, no photography is allowed on that side of the beach, i.e. within the nudist beach area. There is a village within 5 minutes walk from the hotel where you can find food and also a grocery shop. By the way, there is full kitchen facilities at the hotel which is more like a guesthouse and so you can cook there. One last thing,you can ask Mr Gerard to help rent a car for you which I did for about US$35 a day (24 hours) with insurance inclided. Without a vehicle,it is difficult to get around the island. Pool is smallish but it didn't matter cause we never used it as the most beautiful beach in all of St Maarten was a very short and pleasant boardwalk stroll away. We researched for weeks and read most of Trip Advisors reviews on the hotels in St. Martin and was very happy we chose Le Grand Bleu. It was the perfect location for my husband and I, and our 2yr old son. We were 1min walk to the popular Orient Beach and few mins walk to the Orient Village, where there is a bakery, grocery store and many great restaurants. […] We rented a car and drove around the island. The popluar US supermarket, which sold everything you could think of "made in France", was only a few mins drive away. We visited Grand Case, Marigot and Oyster Pond, and although we loved the areas, we were very pleased we chose to stay at Le Grand Bleu, Orient Bay. Sylvia and Gerard were very friendly and helpful, and made our stay perfect! Our room was on the ground floor and we loved it! I stayed here with a friend for one night in January, 2011. It was a very nice hotel just steps from beautiful Orient Beach. We had a great time and the pool is lovely and private. The nightly rate is lower than many of the other hotels on Orient Beach and there's no three night minimum. The kitchenette in the room was very nice. The ventilation window […] in the bathroom could have used a screen to keep the bugs out. I didn't realize that the receptionists take a siesta. Even though we had told the guy at the desk the night previous that we wanted to check out at 2 pm the next day, there was no one there when we went to check out, so we got the maid to run and find someone to check us out when we left the next day. Stayed for three days prior to a sailing charter. The hotel is very close to the beach (2 minute walk). There are several restaurants nearby (5 minute walk). Felt very safe walking around the area. A good value for staying on Orient Beach. New owner and management are working on renovations. Furniture could be upgraded, but for a beach hotel, this is really good: close walk to the beach, top rooms have view. I was a little skeptical about booking this hotel as there is not much information on -line regarding it since it changed ownership and was renamed Le Grand Blue. I was pleasantly surprised. The new owners/managers were welcoming, friendly and genuinely did all they could to ensure that we had an enjoyable stay. The property appears to be approximately 12-15 years old and the new owners were in the process of upgrading/updating the public areas. The hotel is in an excellent location; steps away from Orient Beach (through a pathway), a short walk to Orient Village and fifteen minutes to Grand Case. The rooms were clean and spacious with a small fully equipped kitchenette, a new flat screen TV (with over 100 channels!), a comfortable bed and lounge furniture. We loved it and will likely return. We haven't been to St martin in over 6 years and wasn't sure what to expect. Was alttle apprehensive after reading about the crime-but as many reviewers have said there is crinme everywhere. We have always styed on Orient Beach but never at La Caribes. We found the hotel to be decent. It was nothing special but who needs a special hotel when you have […] St Martin at your doorstep. Lorrie the manger went out of her way to make sure we had what we needed. The only BIG complaint was not with the hotel but with the Wiikiki - I guess the hotel rents chairs and umbrella from them so that where their guest go,. The young men who are in charge of the chairs are VERY Rude to the the hotel quests. You can only use certain chairs on certain days and they must be as far away from the hotel as possible. When the tell you to move that's exactly what they do- no explaining no politeness no manners-VERY RUDE- I spoke to Lorrie about this and she informed me that isn't the first time she heard this. I will probably hestitate before going back to La Caribe not because of the hotel but because of the "Chair Police!" Read more

The hotel was nice, what we expected. Location was great just off the beach and behind three beach bars. Stores and several resturants within a short walk. The only problem we had was after the beach bars close it is quiet, I mean quite like zero sound anywhere. We thought the bars on the beach would stay open later but by 5:00 they are shut down except […] for Bikini Beach that stays open for dinner but not much of a crowd goes there. We went to the nearby resturants a couple of nites but had to drive to Grand Case , Simpson Bay and Maho for any kind of entertainment in the evening. If you stay here you will need to rent a car. Rates are pretty low and it's worth the extra expense. Driving can be a little stressful but after a couple of days you get used to it. If you drive to Maho or Simpson bay I would recommend taking the road through Sandy Ground, it's an easier drive and you avoid Cole Bay and the Simpson Bay bridge. So if you want a quiet vacation this is the place for you. Read more

In addition to losing privileges at the Orient Village restaurants and two beach clubs to charge beverages and meals to our room, we got lower service at the Waikiki beach club. We still had free loungers and umbrellas but instead of being seated in the central area, we were pushed out beyond the "boat people" (day visitors from the cruise ships) to […] the edges of the beach club's areas where it was difficult to get the servers' attention to get beverages and food. We felt like second class citizens compared to our previous visits. We stayed in the far right rooms closest to the beach, but unfortunately this mean the Wi-Fi service was often non-existent, and cell phone service was similar quality. The service was still very good, though. Our bed had a broken leg, which we propped up and it worked okay, but don't expect such minor inconveniences to be addressed while you are there. We loved our stay at the Cap Caribies. We had easy access to the beach and chairs and umbrellas. On cruise ship days the chairs were a little more full, but otherwise it was great. We would choose a 2nd floor room next time so that we would feel comfortable leaving the curtains open. The restaurants within walking distance of the hotel were wonderful. Caraibes is a condo-style hotel of perhaps 60 units on three floors. Located in a complex of condos and small hotels at Orient Beach. We were on the second floor overlooking the pool (small but well kept) with a view to the beach 100 yrds away from the patio where we ate breakfast each morning. Free lounges and umbrella were available from our choice […] of two beach clubs. Free wi-fi kept us in touch via iPhone and the self-parking parking was ample and free. The beds were extremely confortable, the A/C worked great, although many nights we just left that patio open and were lulled to sleep by the waves. The kitchen was fully equipped and we went shopping - two stores in the beach village and a large supermarket 8 minutes towards Grand Case, the place for fine dining, although there were several places to dine in the village as well as the beach bars. It was just pefect and we'd love to come back. A car enabled us to visit several other beaches and towns.
