"Just so so"
Good price, good location But the room condition is disappointing.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not new but clean and comfortable"
The facility is old but well maintained... staff is friendly and helpful. I was quite comfortable at White Sands and would stay there again in the future.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Right in the Heart of Waikiki"
We really enjoyed staying at the White Sands. It was walking distance to Waikiki Beach, the International Food Court, all transportation, and a 24 Hour Fitness gym. This is not a new resort, so if you are expecing a Marriott or a Westin, this is not it. The room was clean with a cute kitchenette, a nice balcony, comfortable beds, and a big bathroom. […] The resort had a great pool with plenty of lounge chairs and tables and chairs for eating poolside. The staff was friendly and helpful. There is no elevator, all handicapped rooms are on the first floor. We would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Great ServiceGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Staff friendly. The room had the "city view", which meant it looked out onto the next door hotel rooms. The door to the bathroom would not close due to the hinge screws coming out of the door frame. The room was furnishing consisted of two twin beds and a lamp in between. No couch as was advertised. Basicly, if you want a place to sleep, it was fine. […] Pretty much a "low cost" dump close to the action of wakiki. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"low cost hotel in the middle of Waikkiki"
Great location but the hotel is quite run down. Never used pool once we were there. Jacuzzi was closed down per city order. First had upper level back side room. It was noisy and old and noisy. They moved us to a room opening onto the pool and it was better. For the price right in the middle of the main area it was good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Only if you can get it cheap."
The staff is very nice but this place needs to be knocked down and a new hotel built in its place. I stayed here 30 years ago on my first trip to Hawaii and it hasn't been upgraded much since. In fact, the hot tub has been removed so there are fewer amenities than 1983.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Functional hotel in the center of Waikiki."
The hotel room is good from a purely functional standpoint, but if you need more than a place to sleep and shower, you might do better looking elsewhere. The staff did go above and beyond expectations, though.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very old hotel but worth the stay"
As long as you book your room knowing this is an older hotel you will be fine. The location could not be better, the young men that were on duty during our stay did everything they could to make our visit enjoyable. The area around the swimming pool was inviting. We will go back but might upgrade to a larger unit and facing the pool.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Basic cheap hotel - but no free WiFi!"
There is no WiFi in the rooms, and the only available WiFi is paid WiFi in the lobby area. This is unacceptable in 2013!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Waikiki, first vacation"
Very old hotel, but kept up reasonably well. Steps were longer each day. Neighboring buildings upkeep not good. Staff were very helpful with everything from calling cabs to knowing bus routes. We felt it was a good value for our stay. Pool & Jacuzzi were dated but we enjoyed our time in them. Good location. Walk to the beach was nice and the International […] Marketplace was on the way. Public buses ran on the next street over. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Location was good BUT..."
Good location but the room we stayed smelled weird. We saw one staff was argueing with some guests. We couldnot connect to wifi but at lobby.Genuine Expedia guest review
"So, so place"
It was fine to stay at but only to sleep. The room was very simple, and older hotel. We could hear much noise from the next rooms.Genuine Expedia guest review
"disappointed but not surprised"
The beds were small and cheap. The room smelled of smoke. The carpet was old and worn. Compared to a hotel on the Mainland, it seemed like a room that hadn't been updated in 30 years.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Would not stay here again"
The room was clean and orderly. The location is just about the sketchiest part of Waikiki you could choose. There are a couple of dive bars nearby where some unscrupulous looking people hang out outside. The service at the front desk was cordial and attentive. The biggest drawback to this hotel was the room: it looked like the building and furniture […] were from the 70's, with no major improvements made to them since. The television is probably a 19" unit strapped to a mounting plate on the wall near the kitchen. I have stayed in a lot of hotels, and the amenities offered here were probably the worst that I've ever experienced. I actually can't believe how high the ratings previous guests posted for this hotel. The rates were comparable with other hotels that are vastly superior. Will definitely not stay here again. "A good value; a great location"
We stayed at the White Sands twice on this trip. Our first room was on the bottom floor, and was accessed by walkway which would have benefited from better lighting. The second stay was on the second floor. The hotel is an older place, with limited services, and while the rooms show their age, everything which we used was in good working condition. The […] room needed some additional lighting, particularly in the sitting area. This is where we tried to plan out our day, but it was a challenge to do routine tasks like read a tour book, or study a map, because there were no lights in the area. The front desk was efficient, and very helpful. Most of the public areas were clean and nicely landscaped. We did not try the hot tub, partly because the water was rather cloudy looking. I liked the location. It was a short walk to the hustle & bustle of Waikiki, but the hotel its self was quiet. If you just need a place to sleep at night, this is a good value. If you're more inclined to hang out in the hotel, there are doubtless many other places (for considerably more $$$$$) which may be better choices. We just needed a clean, safe crash-pad, and for that, the White Sands served just fine. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Felt at home. The workers were all very friendly and the stay was comfortable. The pool and hot tub was really nice.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel room we were in needed a facelift. IT was clean, but the carpets in the hall need replacement. The room was very quiet, not easy to find in that part of Waikiki. Good budget option.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"super great hotel"
Very nice hotel !! Good location in Waikiki (10min of the beach) and at the heart of Waikiki min(restaurants, stores and activities). Very clean and quiet. I recomand you this hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Service was amazing"
The front desk was extremely helpful and nice. The rooms were okay. Maybe a little updated would help. But service was amazing.Genuine Expedia guest review
Take a step back to 50's Hawaii in this low rise hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good budget choice."
Room was comfortable but had cosmetic issues. Great location to Waikiki shops and Zoo. Tons of places to eat nearby from $-$$$$. On site parking was available and convenient but added $25/day to the cost.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Hotel+ First time to Hawaii"
My first time booking a hotel through Expedia and the experience was amazing. I called before hand to the hotel to check on some information and the staff was just as helpful on the phone as in person. Maintenance staff was very fast as well! The location of the hotel perfectly fits within the beach, shopping areas and places to eat. The Bus is located […] very close to the hotel as transportation was not a problem as I did not have a car. I would definitely stay at White Sands Hotel again! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Quiet clean hotel that was a great value.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very nice place to stay. Not the most up-to-date but very comfortable. We were upgraded to the two bedroom unit which was nice with all the luggage we had while moving to Hawaii. Parking is limited but easy to use compared to some other hotels we have stayed at before.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Friendly and Helpful Staff"
A very nice hotel designed to provide relatively economical lodging for customers. Close to lots of excellent restraunts, shopping, Catholic Church, ocean, etc. We would definintely stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Decent hotel for the price."
The hotel was clean. We weren't expecting a resort...but the air conditioning dripped all night, and the cups and ice bucket weren't clean. We could hear the t.v. in the next room..actually we could hear everything. But, the pool was nice-it is in a convenient location, and the grounds were unexpected in a good way, right in the middle of the city.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Our Waikiki vacation"
The hotel location is very good. It is near most everything of interest in the Waikiki area. The room was nice and comfortable on the first floor, walking right into the pool and jacuzzi areas. The common areas could take a little bit of TLC to make them more pleasant. The room itself was ok however, there were some appliances available to us such as […] coffee maker, toaster, microwave with no place to put them and/or plug them. In fact, we only used the coffee maker plugged into an outlet in the bathroom as this was the only place with some space available to that effect. There was no facility to use the room phone for 1-800 calls which made our calling cards useless unless you want to use the pay phone next to the business center. TThe best hotel for the price in the middle of everything. Could not have been happier. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful, the room clean and neat. We were so satisified. Much betterh that the Papakea Resort where we stay on Maui and much less expensive. MaholoGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"NEEDS A HIGHER STAR RATING!"
I arrived a little early (prior to their posted check-in time) and they let me into the room anyway. I was shocked to see a small kitchenette with stove, microwave and fridge! I was not expecting that! Also, I had a dining table and the kitchen cabinets were stocked with pots, pans, plates, glasses and silverware. Everything I needed to cook in the […] room - they even provided dish washing liquid and wash cloths/sponges! The room was bigger than any room I have ever stayed at in Waikiki - and that includes a couple 4 star rooms! It was more like a small apartment! Staff was friendly and VERY accomodating. Room was always cleaned to perfection. Beautiful setting aroundd the pool too. Complimentary newspaper daily and they even had iced water and paper cups by the lobby desk. Only improvements would be having access to wireless internet in the room. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Cleaning was inadequate as well as television. Very small TV in the room and the remote did not work. Outdated bed and carpet. Air-conditioning was poor. No elevator in building for upper floors. Place needs upgrading in a very bad way!!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Economical, close to the center of everything"
We enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel is older (there was a hairline crack in the sink), but it was clean and the location is fantastic - close to Hilo Hattie free shuttle and other buses, International Market, King's Village, and many shopping areas. The staff tried to do everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. They are in the process […] of improving. We loved the courtyard with the swimming pool, pond, palms and flowers. Very relaxing. We would be happy to stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great central location- affordable rates!"
One of the last good-value motels left in Waikiki. Clean hotel and extremely friendly staff. Beautiful pool surrounded by flowers and palm trees. Good security at night. Parking out front. Our room had a nice kitchenette and the maid service was exemplary. The only thing I'd complain about was the shower. Shorter than normal showerhead (hard for us […] tall people) and low water pressure. Also quite a step up and step down to access it. Otherwise we loved out stay there. Free Honolulu paper in the morning and internet Wi-Hi access! Book it Dano! :) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Good cheap alternative to the luxury hotels on the beachfront, but you get what you pay for... my room smelled like urine with a view of a decrepit alley and a variety of shady characters hanging out front of the convenience store when the sun went down.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is older, but the location is wonderful. We were 1 1/2 blocks from the beach and close to all of the great shopping spots and the Cheesecake Factory (great food!) The pool area was very nice and the staff was awesome! We'd stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Affordable and close to everything"
Great location compared to room prices. 10 minute walk to Waikiki beach. Very close to International Market and other attractions. There is no wi-fi in rooms only available from lobby. Parking is an extra cost ($25 per night when we stayed) and limited space. But we were lucky to find a spot every night.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A great old bargain hotel."
Aqua, please bring this great old place up a few notches. It's a great old bargain hotel, but the twin beds in our room (336) were terrible, like two box springs on top of each other. Otherwise just keep it painted and the rooms clean.Genuine Expedia guest review
For the price of the room, I think we got a good deal; hotel staff were very friendly; this is definitely an older hotel that could use updating; very convenient location for what we wanted to do; when we first got there, they had put us in a room with one double bed - had reservations for queen with twin and when we complained, it was explained that […] the reservations are a "request" and not what you may actuallly get - if this is the policy, it needs to be spelled out clearly - otherwise I would not have booked this hotel or room; luckily, the front desk personell found us a room with a double bed that worked very well and the rest of our stay there was fine Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to it all"
Older hotel but very clean. Friendly staff, on-site tour desk, beautiful pool area, in the heart of everything at a very good price.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to the beach and shops"
Located right on the beach, but there are big waves. If you don’t like it you can walk 2 minutes along the beach to the right side and there is another beach where you can find place without big waves. Pros: free parking place, restaurants and shops are nearby, big bed, very friendly personnel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
For the location, you probably can't beat its price. It has everything other hotels have, including a pool and a hot tub. It feels like a really nice motel rather than a hotel. Again, if you wanted the movie hotel experience you have to pay top dollar. I would recommend this place to students coming in to look for places to stay and for anyone planning […] a vacation on a budget. You will still get the full tourist experience because of its location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
