Great roomGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It was close to Minute maid park. But many homeless people. There is a soup kitchen near by.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Stay was great. Hotel accommodated a late checkout as I arrived at 1:30 am. Will definitely stay here again when in town.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is nice and conveniently located for my business needs. There are a few things I would recommend to management. Fix the TVs in the fitness center and train the restaurant staff on their trade. They were friendly enough, but not well versed in serving.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not worth it"
Saving money here will cost you more in end. Rooms no curtains. Weird isn't it? Service, same as IHOP. Real shame for this place. It could better with a few minor tweaks. Head to Hilton.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Last Minute Business Trip"
Had to be in downtown Houston for court on short notice... was able to book at this hotel and it was very convenient for me. I also had to get on my laptop to do work when I arrived. I was having trouble with my wifi and the front desk connected me to technical support, who fixed my issues rather quickly. I was very happy with the overall service and […] comfort of my room. I'd stay here again if I need to be in downtown Houston. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was great saw Astros game walked the 4 blocks to the stadium but on the way back literally bunches of homeless everywhere !! I wish someone at hotel would have let us know not to walk back at night !! When I asked doorman he said it is like that every night!! Scary!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice refurbished historic hotel-boutique feel"
Overall great, except the bar service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Chic and modern"
Nice rooms, well updated. Valet takes forever, hotel restaurant (I think it's called 17?) is overpriced and menu is a bit too opulent for the area. Don't stray too far from the building at night or you may run into some unsavory people...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cozy and Friendly"
I didn't notice the odor that others mentioned but the lobby doors were open to let the fresh air in. The room was small but comfortable and the bathroom was first rate. The bed and linens were amazing. I like having the coffee machine in the room with nice selections in the morning. The only downside was the restaurant for breakfast. They charge too […] much for what is available for free at lesser hotels. Stay away and grab a donut. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overall GREAT stay!"
The staff was friendly, the room was nice and clean. It was our second time there and i would definitely go back. The only thing i found weird was they charged my account as soon as we got there for a way more expensive amount then it got refunded then 5 days then charged correctly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Probably the most comfortable bed I ever slept in. very nice room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I will always stay at The Sam. I do take issue with the cost of parking. I do not understand why house keeping wanted in one morning at 830a, did not show up the next day, and had not arrived by dinner the next (but room was done by our return from dinner at 9p). We did like the shower was big enough for two! The bath soaps etc were awesome. The king […] bed was super comfy. Can't say much about the tv. Never turned it on. The sink in the bathroom was a bit slow draining. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Great location, very clean, staff was helpful. Would stay here againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Center of it all"
This was our second time staying there in the last 3 months and already have another stay booked very soon. It is centraly located to good bars, restaurants and sporting events. I have to add that my wife accidently left an expensive watch behind in our room and it was actually returned by housekeeping to the front desk. We called the day after checkout […] as a shot in the dark and low and behold they confirmed we left it there. Class act service and honesty by the staff. No doubt we will be regulars when we stay in Houston! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Couldn't get the front desk to answer so we could get ice the first nite the second day valet didn't drive our car as it should have been the morning we left we texted valet and 15 min waiting had to go back on and ask to call them to see where our car was then we got a texted from valet saying they were helping ours to text back in 5 mins we were the […] only ones out there it was 6 am Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not worth the price tag"
Great location in terms of downtown, restaurants and stadium. But if you're working or in the hotel a lot it's not as advertised. Room was small and outdated. Service was mediocre. Food and drink in the bar was worse than terrible. I understand it's a hotel bar, but if you can't get the food or drink right, why have one? Room was clean enough so no […] issue there. But for the price spend a few more bucks and stay at the Westin. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Right downtown, walkable to many restaurants. Hotel seems to be recently updated. The rooms are very nice and the bathrooms are beautiful. Nice bar and restaurant downstairs. Staff all very friendly and helpful, and always greeted me warmly. Parking is a bit expensive. I found a lot a block away I parked at for $5 overnight. Had to be out by 8 am, […] so YMMV. "Great Hotel -"
Great Hotel would definitely stay there again...Only negatives are the rude police officers that direct traffic in front of the hotel in the morning and that the hotel bar was closed for remodeling.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"What is that smell"
Lobby smells like raw sewage. No minibars. Food below overage for Houston. Bathrooms big. No effective blinds on windows.Genuine Expedia guest review
The people were very friendly and helpful. we didnt have adequate towels throughout our stay.. they would take the dirty and only replace big ones.. (no hand towels or washcloths) there was constantly wet pots on the carpet, and there was a horrible smell through out the hotel everyday BAD AREA!! unsafe to walk anywhereGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Was in town for Opening Day. Overall great stay."
Hotel has a very cool feel. Front desk was very nice. Only spent a night there for the baseball game and was just a short walk away. Room had a very cool modernized boutique feel. No issues at all to report about the actual stay. Three small critiques though: 1. the lobby area, while pleasing to the eye, went from smelling amazing to a horrible smell […] in a matter of steps. 2. I wasn't able to keep the room AC on at all times as I like. 3. There is NOTHING to do around the area if you're not there for business or the game, unless you need a bail bondsman (the close proximity to a courthouse does the trick). Other than that I would suggest this hotel as a great stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Place was great! Smell that I had read in previous reviews wasn't that bad. It seemed to vary in the lobby. Defiantly would stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect Location for downtown Activities"
Our check in was handled promptly and efficiently. The lobby is interesting in the choice of decor. We were placed on the ninth floor with a beautiful of the court house. The room (905) was quite nice and had all that we needed for a short stay. As we entered the elevator I noticed an odor much like a sewer smell. When a maid appeared at our door to […] check if we had enough water, I asked her about the odor. She said she would report it to her manager. We never herd back from anyone at all. I used the fan in the room but it was not enough to cover the odor. It was noticeable in the elevator, the halls, and our room. Strangely, it was not present at all in the lobby area. All staff we met were very helpful--except for the maid who said she would get us an answer and never did. We would stay here again as it is nicely appointed and the location is great. Just know that there may be a strange odor lurking. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Convenient and friendly"
Sketchy outside, there are homeless people sleeping on the sidewalk. Once inside the hotel, it was gorgeous, and the staff were super friendly. "Nice, but noisy"
Checking in and out was a breeze, as the front desk staff was friendly and professional. They've done nicely with their renovations, but could stand to pay attention to some smaller details. Our room had slight scuffs on the wall and bed, a chipped trash can, and a cracked hair dryer. Not big things, but they definitely detract from the image I believe […] they're going for. If you're a light sleeper like me, just note that this is downtown and there will be traffic noise in the morning. Also, the metro rail is nearby, and they sound their horn going through intersections. Aside from these, I need to mention the restaurant 17. We wanted to take dessert up to eat, and though it was Sunday at 8:30pm, couldn't find a waiter to help us. When one was finally found for us, he came back looking annoyed. Then as we were leaving, we asked for flatware to use, and he skeptically asked if we were hotel guests and turned his back to us while promising to bring them up. I was feeling sorry for possibly interrupting his break, but after this and his sour look while delivering forks, I definitely feel he was just rude and unprofessional. Overall, I'd still recommend the hotel for its close proximity to many downtown venues, but probably would not recommend the restaurant. There are many other places to take your business to, ranging from burgers to steaks. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good place for valentine's day weekend"
Me and my wife stayed two nights during valentines day weekend! Complimentary service both nights to any place and picked up on time before midnight! Room was great! King size bed with a couch! Very close to midtown as well! Kind of didn't like the 28$ a day parking but was not a major factor.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Foul smelling hotel"
The lobby, hallways, and at least the room I had all smelled like there had been a recent sewage spill. Save yourself some nausea and don't stay here.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It's a nicely renovated hotel with shuttle service (& by shuttle I mean a town car type of shuttling) which we loved. However, the homeless shelter is nearby and the homeless gather to sleep directly behind the hotel. Overall, would stay again (the rooms are decently priced) but only as long as the shuttle service can get me to where I need to be.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"over all good"
The hotel was good, I liked the size of the hotel. The only bad thing is that the whole hotel smelled really musty!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Yazmin at the front desk was awesome. She was very helpful make the business trip enjoyable. She was very knowledgeable about the neighborhood. The rooms were luxurious and very comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"2 Nights at the Sam...Ups and Downs"
Ups....This really was a great hotel. I really liked the decor of the rooms and the comfortable bed. The bathroom was awesome! I had dinner at the restaurant downstairs and my waiter "JR" was the best waiter I have had in years! The private shuttle car was really great as I didn't have to pay for a cab to get around...it's a free service of the hotel […] for every guest. They even pick you up and bring you back to the hotel. Downs....Every time I used the elevators, they smelled of sewerage, even the area in front of the elevator doors smelled this way. Strangers who rode in the elevators with me could smell it also and made comments. I read of this problem in other reviews, but decided to book anyways. It's not a "knock you to your knees" kind of smell, but you can really smell it. The only other thing I didn't like is that this hotel sits in the heart of the Houston courthouse district. During the day there are plenty of...i guess semi-homeless people walking around and asking for change and smokes. Across the street hundreds of people waiting for buses and /or court are hanging around. All-in-all, it was a great hotel, slightly over-priced but I enjoyed it. The room was quite small for the price, and had an odd asymetrical shape. The toilet was backed up and clogged, but maintenance arrived quickly and snaked andcleared it up. The beautiful glass and tile shower leaked horribly and left the bathroom floor covered in water. The decor was ok, but not the elegance I would expect for $160 per night. The bar […] was ok and had typical overpriced drinks as most hotel bars do. There was a restaurant which we didn't visit and tge valet service was on the ball. "Quick stay at a downtown Houston hotel"
It was fine. It was vey odd that coincidentally after I gave my cell phone number to the attendant at the front desk that I received a random text message less than 30 minutes later from a number I did not know. The message simply said, "Hi my name is Brooke." I never ever give out my cell phone number and thirty minutes after I gave it to the front […] desk lady I coincidentally received the unsolicited text. I did not respond and never heard anything more from that or any other unknown number. The hotel stay was fine. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

I very much enjoyed the stay. After a long week traveling and staying in Sugarland, this was my last night of a 6 night business trip.
