The Brookstown Inn is a converted textile factory with a rich history. We were only able to spend a single night so we opted for one of the rooms with two doubles beds. Charming furniture and a very nice bath, which had all the extras. The Inn is undergoing renovations so it is only getting nicer. We peaked in one of the recently renovated king rooms […] which was just lovely. Adequate breakfast in the lovely dining room. Ollie's Bakery, just across the street, has some wonderful sweet treats. The Inn is a nice walk from Old Salem and the Visitors Center is in another part of the complex. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Overall a good hotel"
The hotel was very nice and clean. The only problem was noise. I could hear people talking in the room above me very easily.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very clean, and comfortable."
In the words of our 5 year old grandson, "this is no ordinary hotel"! Beautiful, clean, helpful staff. If I had to reach for a complaint, I would say the breakfast was somewhat lacking.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great staff and service, uncomfortable room"
On the first night, the room I stayed in was extremely cold (due entirely to the AC). I complained to the management, who was extremely helpful, but they moved me to a room with a giant window that the sun came through at 6AM and woke me up. Other than the room comfort, however, the staff is great and the service is phenomenal.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Big Room and Great Amenities"
We enjoyed the huge room, historic atmosphere and stories of the hotel, wine and cheese and fruit, warm cookies and milk and a delicious breakfast. Staff wad great and helpful !!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to everything, wonderful place!"
I thought it was fantastic! Gorgeous accommodations, historical hotel, great service, breakfast, wine bar in the evenings - staff was so kind! There was a very helpful person, Lindsay, who managed the front reception area, well, she made my stay one of the best getaways I could have hoped for. Great place!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful historic inn"
We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Beds were comfy and our room was a nice size with the convenience of a microwave, refrigerator and a Keurig coffee maker. The exposed brick wall added a lot of character. Bathroom was renovated and updated. IT was very clean and only blocks away from the historic district.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great ambience, poor infrastructure"
Stayed in a Junior Suite while visiting a client. Liked the location and the surrounding areas i.e., Old Salem and Salem College. Wine, cookies & milk and the nightly chocolate were thoughtful gestures. Bathrooms were updated but water pressure in the showerheads is still low. LCD TV and Keurig coffee makers are nice touches, asking money for replenishing […] the in-room coffee is not. Loud, screeching AC fan outside my room came on intermittently but unfortunately mostly at bed time and in the morning. Brought it up twice with the receptionist and they had a maintenance guy look at it but wasn't resolved as long as I stayed there. Would probably stay again but not in the 222-230 rooms. Great stay. And they had cookies ! Comfortable bed and spacious room.Genuine Expedia guest review
Loved it! I especially loved the decor with the brick walls and country charm. Thank you!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
While the location was great, the hotel/room was not as expected... The light as you entered the hotel room was burnt out and not replaced after reported to hotel staff. Face plate on the door lock was loose so difficult to shut the door to room. Hairdryer in room didn't work. Neither the couch (sleeper sofa) nor the chair were comfortable and looked […] like they'd been in the room for 30+ years -- basically sunk into the chair and the cushions on the sleeper sofa were so thin you could feel the frame of the bed. Huge room, well maintained and quiet. Friendly employees. They were short staffed for a wine and cheese hour, but managed to get through it. Could use tongs for serving.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Authentic historic structure"
I enjoyed the fact the hotel was originally an 1837 textile mill. The original building materials (huge beams, interesting brickwork, extremely tall windows) coupled with the paintings and retro style furniture made this a unique place. My "junior queen suite" had two levels. There was a loft for the bed that overlooked the living room, which was four […] steps down from the loft. On the living room level, the ceilings were 14-feet tall and made the room seem huge. The staff was very cordial and provided excellent customer service. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Another stay at the Brookstown Inn"
I have been using this hotel for the last years as my daughter is attending college in town. I always get high marks to this hotel. In this trip I had my first disappointing experience. I always was assigned large, comfortable, quiet rooms. This time I was assigned a small, noisy room AND the price was higher than I had paid for larger rooms at the […] hotel. I will stay again but I will make sure to inquiry what type of room I am getting. I understand this is an old building and I am the first to appreciate the historical value. I am just saying that this last experience was not as the same level of my previous 5 stays at this hotel. However, I need to clarify that I will continue to go to this hotel. I love the neighborhood, proximity to old Salem and to nice restaurants. I recommend Senor Bravo, just a block away. Excellent Mexican food at a great price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

I love this hotel! Its rooms have historic charm, the staff is super friendly, and the location cant be beat. Feels more like a condo than a hotel room. While the bathrooms could use some updating, i love his hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great service and charm galore!"
I was meeting a friend at a half way point for the two of us, and we chose Winston-Salem for a night. Having never been to the Inn before, I asked the clerk upon early arrival to choose a room. He not only let us check in early, but gave us an outstanding room! It was spacious with two, comfortable double beds and a large, nicely decorated, clean bath. […] So much charm with exposed wooden beams and brick. Plus a window that looked out on a brick courtyard. It was great to catch up with my friend over free wine and cheese that evening, (if wanted, free cookies and milk too), and a great breakfast. We are already planning our next meet up, and I have already mentioned it to other friends. A great location for walking into Old Salem along a trail that runs next to a Visitors's Center which is right next door to the Inn. Great service and a great value on a weeknight in early May. This is a wonderful historic hotel. The rooms have been converted to preserve the history but also outfitted with modern amenities. The staff was very friendly and the little extra "perks" made our stay wonderful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The Staff were welcoming and accommodating. We got there early and were immediately checked-in. Our room was large and well appointed. The Inn's location was very close to downtown Winston-Salem, Old Salem, the Visitor's Center, and great restaurants. There was ample parking. "Needs updating & food/beverage upgrade"
This hotel has the potential to be wonderful. However, the rooms are drab and there was not scrap of information about the choices in the area for restaurants or sites. The desk staff seems a little "clueless" about interpreting and anticipating guest questions and needs. (Getting ice, buying a toothbrush and paste) The "breakfast" choices were not […] appetizing and the coffee could use an upgrade. The cleaning staff seemed conscientious, the building was historically intriguing, but beyond that, I would not stay there again. It needs décor and food upgrades desperately. Bell/door service prompt and friendly. Shuttle to High Point was greatly appreciated. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I guess must be a salon in the building. The smell from the dye or hair color was toxic. Felt sorry for the people that work at the counter. Had to hold my breath everytime I entered the hotel. WowGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location for sightseeing"
This historic converted textile mill makes an overall good impression. Our room was very high and rather dark, and especially the window could have been a little cleaner. Despite the old-world surroundings we had to make do with plastic plates and cutlery for breakfast, which was a disappointment. Its location is ideal for visiting both Old Salem and […] the modern Winston, they are even connected by a walkway. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Be prepared, no valet. I was traveling alone and had to carry lots of luggage, computer, etc, to the 4th floor all by myself. My room key didn't work so I had get to get a new room key 5 times. On my second night while dining at the restaurant next door, a man informed me that the inn is haunted. Oh well, overall I have to admit the Inn was very clean, […] quiet and very comfortable. I will stay there again when I do business in the area. I liked it because it was quiet and there is a great restaurant and bakery right next door. It's old but charming and very very clean! I would recommend the Inn to a friend I would just prepare them for carrying all of their own luggage to their room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"has charm, pretty good hotel"
The room we stayed in was very spacious, and the hotel overall has the charm of a very old building which was converted into a hotel, rather rustic with big wooden beams and such. Location is close to center of town, but neighborhood is a little dark and deserted, although we didn't feel unsafe. We arrived rather late and left early, so we didn't enjoy […] much service, but it was fine. The room had all the normal amenities, and rate included breakfast, which was OK. "An excellent value in a great location"
I loved the ambiance and the neighborhood. Even my 17 year old daughter said upon arrival....., "Wow! This is cool." It certainly beat staying in something homoginized out on the interstate.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Price, Atmosphere, Need to Attend to Details"
I've stayed here a few times now, and, in addition to its always being among the most competitive price-wise, the inn is a refreshing change from monotonous franchise hotels. The rooms are loft-like, high-ceilinged with exposed brick interior walls, and have antique-looking furniture. The staff's friendly, wi-fi's free, and continental-style breakfasts […] are served a nice dining room downstairs that reminded me of hotels in Europe. All that said, the inn could use better attention to details. The bathrooms are a little shabby (inexpensive vanities and fixtures, things like visible caulking and poor paintwork) and the single elevator's very old and lurches, and the carpet in front of it is worn out. Also, twice now I've found a hair in the room, once on the bathroom vanity and once on a pillow on one of the beds. It's a great place and the downtown location is phenomenal (across the street is a great breakfast place, there's a wine-bar you can walk to, and historic Old Salem is nearby). Just some better attention to details and the inn would be perfect. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a great stay. I would have given all 5 stars except I stayed on a cot that was the most uncomfortable thing Ive slept on since camping as kids. I mentioned to the clerk that even if it was free to rent (which it was not) it was too mcuh! Everything else was great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Cleanliness: there was something splattered on the wall near the waste basket of room 107, next to the table with the microwave, that hadn't been wiped off.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel for Everyone"
Beautiful hotel closer to the historic district. This hotel is really a historic landmark and the remodel was done tastefully with comfort in mind. Really unique pr […] operty. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I love this hotel - the rooms are large and lovely, many with exposed brick walls, and although their breakfast is fairly simple (mainly pastries, cereals, yogurt), they have nice extras such as wine and cheese in the evening and freshly baked cookies at night. It's not in the center of Winston Salem, if that matters, but it's a quick drive (or maybe […] a 10 minute walk) to restaurants etc. in the center of town. There are also at least 3 good restaurants and an excellent bakery very near the hotel (esp. Willows, though that generaly requires reservations). In case it's important to you, I should mention that the normal rooms have older tvs (i.e. not flatscreens). We booked a junior suite on this visit, however, and that had a large flatscreen TV, which made my husband happy even though he never got a chance to watch it... "Lots of character, great location, but..."
My husband and I booked this hotel when we came up to Winston-Salem for a race in the area. Overall, the hotel was beautiful and had a lot of parking available which was nice. I booked the one bed queen room and when we arrived we opened the door to two double beds and not the one I had originally booked. When I asked the front desk what happened she […] simply stated, "We got booked for the night and I guess you got bumped to another room,". I was a little put off by this but our room was clean, big and full of character. The only other downfall of the hotel was their is no ramp to pull down the luggage carrier to your car so that got a little annoying. Other than that I would re-book this hotel and tell my friends and family to stay there! Right in the heart of the city and an easy walk to downtown night life and restaurants. What a charming Inn, loved it!! I will definitely revisit Winston Salem solely to stay here again :-)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is a very comfortable & enjoyable hotel. I loved the fact that they provide seating areas outside of the room in the lobby area and provide board games and reading material - it gives the hotel a very homey feeling. Most of the hotel and the room were very nice, but the bathroom could be updated in certain areas. The breakfast is very straightforward, […] and the cutest part was that they put out a tray of cookies and milk every night for their guests. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. My sister and I stayed here and we were both very surprised by the amount of space in the room. If you do happen to stay at this hotel, there is a great restaurant […] called Mozelle's which is just a 5 minute drive away. You HAVE to go there! "CHARMING COLONIAL STYLE"
The hotel was very unique, and so was our room. We liked the colonial feel of it, and it was very cozy. The public areas felt like being in somebody's home. We like to stay in hotels that have a unique charm, and this one definitely definitely has a lot of it. I could totally see bringing a group of our friends here, and enjoying what old Winston-Salem […] has to offer. We also got lucky and our room was really big and comfortable. Not all of the rooms were that spacious though, so if I cam back, I would want to stay in the same room again. We could see how beautiful the outside patio must be in the spring or the fall. The only downside for me was you could hear everything, but I brought my sound machine, and that solved the issue. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Not your run of the mill hotel"
Loved the history of the Inn. Our room was large with high ceilings. We were on the 1st floor near the lobby. Even with the close proximity to the front desk, we did not hear any noise whatsoever. We really appreciated being in a hotel that is so unique and full of history. Our room was a handicap room with a very large bathroom. Astounding value. Great location and huge rooms. I would stay here again next time in Winston Salem.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This was definitely a historic hotel, ie not updated and fancy. The room was very large. The set up was a little odd because the clock was no where near the beds and the main light switch controlled all the lights. The bathroom was clean but older and I did squish a bug.
