Service from the front desk was iffy - we had a friend visit and not only did they not let us know she had arrived until several hours later (we found her anyway), they charged her a large fee to spend the day with us on the beach. We just went January 4-10 with a group of 2 couples who ranged from the ages of 24-30. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and the hotel was very clean and well kept. The beach was excellent, and there was plenty of pool space to lounge around. However, much of the population was older than our group making the night life limited and quite uneventful. […] Also, be aware that much of the population is Italian and mostly from Europe. Not many Americans at all. This was a resort to just relax, not to go out at night. There is also no swim up bar at the pool which would've been a lot nicer. The menus for the restaurants are very limited and are okay at best. Room service is included with the stay, but, they have a menu for certain times of the day, and when you call, they only offer 2 of them at best at that time. Beware of your beach towels because you get fined if you lose them or they get stolen at the beach while you save your seats. You are only allowed only 2 towels at a time as well so don't bother asking for additional towels. Besides all those negatives, it was still relaxing and a good time. If you are going to book a trip here, keep this phrase in mind for the kind of people who stay there and that is "this place is for the newly weds, over fed, and nearly dead." Read more

Our first trip to Mexico for 20th anniversary. I chose this hotel based on the reviews. There were many negative ones I mostly don't agree with. I was prepared not to socialize but only relax but it turned out that I was able to do both. Staff is very attentive, tip or no tip. They make $6 per work day so I figured it won't break my wallet to tip $1 […] to $2. Hotel is nice and clean. It's not exquisite just average but for me it's more important that it's clean, which it was. The only reason I gave overall 4 stars because I noted some things that could be done better. Staff that handle food need to wear protective gloves! Staff that takes out the garbage was just taking out the garbage with their hands from the garbage containers into the main plastic bag. It seems like a petty concern but watching it was just plain gross! Beach was very important on my priority list and I was not dissapointed. This beach is one of the best beaches in the world. Who cares about speedos and naked breasts, very occasional happening, not my business anyway. Take pepto with you in case of the digestive issues, remember my concern with handwashing. It could be that we're not used to their food, sauses, etc. Food was good. They try to vary the buffet somewhat, even if they didn't there is so many choices it's just impossible to go hungry. We absolutely loved the way this hotel was intertwined with the jungle, cenotes, and the beach. While I still think the all inclusive was a great value, the food was good but not really great, when compared to what we have had at other more expensive all inclusives. There are no words to describe the incredible experience we had at CRT. We read hundreds of reviews before choosing this hotel for our 10th anniversary trip. We read a lot of negative reviews about the Italians and how loud and obnoxious they are and how they are treated better..let me just go ahead and lay that rumor to rest. This is not just a hotel. It is a resort with 3 story villas (6 of them or more) that provides 288 rooms. The hotel management from the Bell Captain, Front Desk Registration, Housekeeping, and Maintenance is outstanding, due to their customer service focus and desire to serve. The check-in and check-out were a pleasure. I especially liked the Bell Captain […] whose English is excellent. This is a 4 star hotel (out of 5) and provides an authentic Mexico feel from the architecture of the buildings to the grounds landscape architecture. I chose this hotel because it is ecologically balanced with the mangroves, ceynotes, and jungle tropics. Too many resorts are a big building with marginal beaches. This is not the case here. There is a design to the entire property to provide a feeling of a Mayan empire village with walking roads, bridges, and mangroves. Because of the natural ecologcal balance you will see many animals, birds, fish, and reptiles. The tame animals are racoon like creatures and the famous inguanas. Please avoid the Mexican Restaurant due to marginal menu. The best restaurants are Italian, Spanish Tappas and also the beach side outdoor large buffet restauant. Also great breakast/lunches. They aslo do extra food activities such as barbuece grilling on the beach. The food is not the star here - but the property and beach is. The beach is PRISTINE white sand and including walking into the ocean abut 200 feet. There is a dive shop that offers activities too. Read more

wonderful palm-shaded beach, sea and jungle animals, friendly staff, good food and bar services. snorkeling, catamaran and kayak are included (1hr/day of each). Gym is small but decent, spa is not crowded at all. the jungle garden between the hotel building is nice, some of the restaurants are lacking some identity (unlike others that are quite nice) […] but the food is good. I'd defintely go back there. Playa del Carmen is the closest place with nightlife and is a 20 min bus or taxi ride, so the hotel is certainly not in the middle of the fun. The staff here is excellent! I mean really great!! Always smiling and saying hello. The are very kind and accommodating. There is always someone cleaning and making the resort look nice. For an all inclusive the food is great, the Itialian place, Toscana is excellent! Drinks are good. The riviera maya drink is yummy! You will not go hungry or thursty, […] they also stock your fridge with water and some beer and soft drinks, that is nice when you order room service. We ordered room service a lot, it does take at least 30-35 mins, that is because this is a very stretched out resort and they have to walk (not drive) the food from the kitchen to the room, which can take at least 10 mins, but the wait was never longer than they told us. It is very helpful if you speak at least some Spanish or Italian, because not all staff speak English. I just speak a little Spanish and we got along fine, but it did come in very handy many times in this area (not only in the resort but in the town). Also, the adult only party is GREAT!! No kids crying, running around, the resort can play a real game like horse shoes or volleyball without having to worry about including kids (I love kids, but not on vacation). The vera club does activities that EVERYONE can participate in, other reviews mentioned that this is for the Itialians, but it is for everyone although they are run by an Itialian group. We participated in many vera club activities like zumba, aquagym, horseshoes, volleyball and others. Read more

My husband and I have stayed at several all-inclusive resorts around the world and have always had a great time, but we were blown away by Catalonia Royal Tulum. The resort itself is beautiful, built into the surrounding jungle with very little alteration to the natural landscape. Room was very clean, spacious, and comfortable. Room service comes twice […] a day, to clean in the morning and to do turn down service, replace beach towels, and tidy up in the evening while you're at dinner. We were really impressed with all the restaurants. The pool is large, clean, and not too crowded. Staff was really friendly and very happy to help. We brought a stack of $1 bills to tip anyone that went above and beyond and that was appreciated, although tips are included in the rate. Definitely helped us get faster service at the bars and on the beach too. I have never seen a beach as beautiful as at this resort. The water is unbelievably blue and very clear with smallish waves. The sand is clean and white and the staff rakes it around sunrise every day to remove the seaweed that comes in on the tide. There are lots of shady spots to sit under coconut palms and thatch umbrellas. We were with another couple and never had a problem finding chairs together.
