"Consistency. You can depend on it."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Finding a "GOOD THING" these days can get harder and harder. For this reason when you come across a 'good thing" it is priceless. One of the most recent "good things " that I have come across is the PARAMOUNT hotel in Times Square. The first thing that I leave the hotel impressed by is the professionalism and commitment that is demonstrated by the staff. Starting with the front desk where I was checked in by Catherine and continuing until the driver which I received at the hotel hands me my luggage at the airport. Catherine followed the details of my visit until the moment I checked out. The only dislike that I had which eventually i got over was the view of the alley where the boiler or some loud machine was placed. I know that from now on I will request a room that faces anywhere but there. If you are going to New York and plan on taking in Broadway there could not be a more perfect location. I love this hotel so much I find myself wanting to travel to NYC more. I cannot wait until my next visit to the PARAMOUNT which I hope will be in the next few weeks.

We had a very good time and the hotel was close to work.

Very nice hotel, within walking distance to subway for access to Manhattan (take the 7 or E and you can get to grand central, times square, penn station). Just a few blocks to local restaraunts. The room was very clean, excellent staff, free shuttle to subway. Overall an excellent place to stay if your touring new york city. One note, if you are considering a "view room" save your money, the view is obstructed by a number of taller buildings (the hotel is only 7 floors). Overall an excellent experience and I would definitely stay again, especially at the rate because of the new hotel discount. If you plan to take a cab from the hotel call one yourself because the service the hotel uses charges a flat rate to specific areas and you can get a cab on your own for cheaper generally.

Moda - This fashionable restaurant, located the Flatotel's main floor, serves American and Mediterranean favorites with a twist for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. An outdoor patio faces bustling West 52nd Street. Stop by for a drink at the Moda bar and order a treat from the Munchies Menu--perhaps chicken skewers or a trio of tapas.

Let the West Coast have Hollywood; Broadway’s lights are just as bright, and many screen actors come to the Great White Way to gain acting credibility. Area attractions include Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, and the Museum of Modern Art. Resplendent St. Patrick’s Cathedral takes up a block at Fifth and 50th. Once seedy, Times Square now hosts ABC, MTV, and NASDAQ.

Extremely nice hotel, everything was very clean, and upscale. Loved the staff and the whole ambience of this hotel. Would highly recommend.
"Fabulous hotel"
Just loved the Flatotel. Great location..huge room and bathroom. Fabulous conceirge..very helpful. Can't wait until we return.
"meets the need"
i dont need frills, just a clean and convenient place to stay when in town on business. rooms are a little dated but clean, bathrooms are clean. Only issue was once it took a long time to get hot water in the shower. Otherwise its on my list of choices for mid-town stays on business.

"Hotel Staff are miserable"
Stayed over a holiday weekend, so the hotel staff were not in a pleasant mood to begin with. This hotel has the slowest elevators I've ever seen. If you are placed in an upper floor (above 10), I wish you all the luck in the world. DO NOT RELY ON THE ELEVATORS at this hotel. When we complained about our waiting for the elevator, the staff were extraordinarily […] rude. We were told point blank that we were not telling the truth about the elevators. It took us an hour and a half to check out because of the elevator situation. We asked for a bell-hop to come to our room for our bags. After 30 minutes, we gave up. Finally got an elevator and rode it up and down, up and down for 15 minutes before we reached the hotel lobby. No hotel employee was the least bit concerned. Complained at the front desk and was ignored. I will never stay at this hotel again. If you are desperate for a hotel room, and this is your only choice, just stay home. You'll be much happier. Very, very noisy hotel too. The hotel cleaning staff gets started at 8 AM, and they definitely let you know they are on your floor cleaning. We thought they were doing major reconstruction on our floor, only to find out it was the cleaning staff that was making the noise. I swear I heard a jackhammer. What in the world were they doing? No ice machines anywhere. Good points: Beautiful lobby and comfortable seating. Small empty refrigerator in the room was a pleasant surprise. Maybe that's why they didn't have an ice machine anywhere. Very good location. Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall are right there. Bryant Park isn't far away either. Read more
"Flathotel still a favorite!"
We've stayed at the Flathotel many times and it never disappoints. The rooms are larger than many of the boutique hotels, the lobby inviting and the location great.

"Flatotel review"
Excellant location, easy walk to theaters, time square, central park. Very large room, super comfortable bed, room needs some maintainence, carpet torn, scrapes in bathroom walls.

"A well kept secret"
I would mark this hotel as tops on all fronts except for the dingy carpet in the halls. They'd be better off to install some other type of surface as the carpet detracts from an otherwise very nice hotel.
"Flatotel"
Great location! Walked all over times square. Only problem was the bathroom. The toilets clogged twice and the shower only has half of a door so the floor gets wet. Other then that great hotel with great staff and would stay here again.
"Flatotel Times Square"
The Hotel was nice but needs some upgrades...especially the TV. Overall good place though. I would stay there again.
"Outdated but convenient and spacious"
Hotel is conveniently located in the center of it all. Within walking distance to Times Square, huge apt with a bedroom and friendly staff, I'd book it again. Only thing was that it was a bit outdated.
"Ample Space...Convienent location!!"
Spacious rooms. Close to lots of NYC attractions and subway. Good neighborhood. Would recommend.

Nice space great location, it has a small fridge in room [great!] But no ice and poor lighting
"excelent and cofortable room"
Everything was perfect except the parking was ridicules pricey I paid one hundred dollars for two days of parking but everything else was perfect.
"Great location...hotel in NY"

"plenty of space, but not nice"
I had a 1 bed suite, and it was nice to have the living area and kitchen, but the kitchen was run down, counters had lots of marks on them, the sofas and bed were uncomfortable, staff were not very attentive, overall a pretty bad experience, and I have stayed in a lot of new york hotels for work.
"By NY standards, very large room"
I was very pleased with the room exlarge size, free continential breakfast and very central location. I would recommend this hotel to both business and personal travelers.
"Okay hotel... Not like photos"
Nice staff ... Hotel wasn't in good shape as it appears
"Our stay"
We had a great time and the hotel was beautiful and the staff were wonderful
"Nice Trip to NYC"
We came to NYC to go to a Saturday Matinee. Dropped our bags with the bellman without a care in the world. Checked into the hotel, went to the room and freshened up and then to dinner. The room was clean, large and nice. Especially good value for the price we paid on hotels.com
"Shabby and not clean"
The room was quite large which was an unexpected surprise but the furniture was semi-broken and there were a lot of strange stains on the couch and the curtains. It was dusty and dirty under the bed and in corners. The grey color palette of the room added to the dingy environment. The bellman though was very helpful and friendly
"poor update"
the hotel location was great however the hotel is not very nice for the price. I found mold in the shower and there were no washcloths in the room. I would not return
"Good Value in the Heart of the Theatre District"
Considering the going rates for this area (> $150), this place is a bargain and met all our needs. You get the basics... small room with basic room ammenities (hair dryer, refridgerator), some wear and tear showing in rooms and hallways, beds/linens were okay (nothing super cozy), bar ($$$) and restaraunt on premises (altho we did not eat here), and […] you get bare bones pastry/coffee/juice breakfast. Good value. No complaints. Read more

"Flatotel falls flat"
Perhaps I was in a room awaiting renovation but it was not at all updated and the bathroom configuration and shower were terrible. The food in the restaurant was average to poor, and In the morning, they wouldn't allow me to make a bagel and take it back to my room. This hotel is literally behind my office in NYC and I am here monthly, but I'll never […] stay here again. Read more
"Flatotel"
Fantastic location. Convenient to everything. Continental breakfast was included. Rooms were very clean. Service people were all very nice and very helpful. Loved the bathroom. Only negative would be that the bed could have been a little softer. Rooms were really spacious. Would definately go here again.

"Flatotel needs a major improvement"
Except for bar downstairs, this was an utter disappointment. Paint everywhere chipped, very old TV with bad reception, bed not comfortable, and front desk not too pleasant. Put it this way, I slept fully clothed. No hot water and smelled of smoke and marijuana
"Flatotel"
Great room for the price... super roomy, large bathroom, very comfortable!!!! great location.. Would highly recommend this hotel...
"Inexpensive luxury"
My wife and I had a great stay at the Flatotel! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves we would definitely stay again!
"Hotel ambiance, etc"
Great location. Fair and reasonable price-for-service. Hotel will undergo room renovation. Still exists with a 1990's sort-of dim interior look. Would prefer brighter lighting in rooms, a bit more comfort in seating in rooms, upgrades in TV to flat screens, etc. But overall? One surely cannot do better for the money in midtown Manhattan's theater district […] area. Read more
"Not as nice as I remembered"
I stayed here several times before but felt that some remodeling was necessary. Our room was large but seemed to be missing some furniture. The outside hallway smelled like a skunk, but the room itself was okay. The bed was adequate but the pillows were not very comfortable. It was a good price and the staff very friendly, so I would probably stay there […] again. Read more
"It was a pretty good stay"
We ordered room service like 20 times and got nothing I went out side to get my drinks when I was willing to pay more for service its ight though
"A pleasant surprise"
Picked it at random on short notice. Clean, comfortable, quiet, close to restaurants. Good access to taxis. Will stay there again.
"New York hotel close to all attractions!"
This flatotel was right on perfect spot close to 5th ave shopping, times square , rocker fella center and etc awesome hotel worth it for the price great rooms!!!
"Close to the action"
Stayed here for a night when visiting Radio City Music Hall. It was great, close to everything but quiet. I paid the extra $20 for breakfast, but it wasn't worth it, you can go get a coffee and bagel for less $ and it would probably be better quality. Would totally stay there again.
"2nd time staying and will stay again"
Hotel was perfect for us. We like to go to Rockefeller Center and Times Square and both were easy walking distance. Room was very clean. Bed was a little firm for us but we are used to a pillow top.
"Several Problems at Flatotel"
Check-in process was fine. Got my room right away. The room itself was the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in. But since it was just me, this wasn't a big problem. Problems encountered during stay: 1. The water did not run off in the shower. I was ankle deep in water both times I showered. 2. There was only half a shower door. It did not reach […] to the back of the shower. This may be a European thing but all it did for me was flood the floor outside of the shower. 3. My room was too warm. I turned on the AC but it didn't blow out cold air. 4. My key didn't work when I returned to my room on Saturday afternoon. I went back down to the lobby to get a new key. I was quickly given one. However, that one didn't work, either. Security had to come up & "re-program" the lock. I was kind of in a rush so this was an inconvenience. 5. Upon leaving the hotel on Sunday, I waited over 5 minutes for an elevator. I was on the 24th floor. There are only 3 elevators servicing 36 floors. Finally, an elevator came. There were 4 other people waiting for it. Well, guess what? It was completely full. Nobody could get on. I decided against waiting for another one and walked down 24 flights. 6. Check out process was not convenient at all. There were lots of people trying to check out and only 2 clerks. And the people in front of me were demanding to speak to a manager. I simply left my keys on the desk and left. All in all, I would not return to this hotel. The location is great but the service is simply not good enough. Read more
"Flatotel-NYC a good price"
Two blocks from Rockefeller Square, shopping, times square and in an area with lots of dining choices. Staff are very ameniable and friendly. The hotel tries to appear modern but the rooms look more like an old warehouse than modern design. Our room included a small kitchen and a large bathroom with an interesting layout. I've always spent the $$$ and […] stayed right at Times Square but now much prefer staying slightly away at the Flatotel. Read more
"Flatotel fall FLAT"
Don't spend your hard earned dollars here! The photo you see on the web sight are far from the room you get! The room overall is dank and dark. The room heater was inoperable and when turned on sounded like of of New York's trash trucks and had a smell omitting from it! Service was called but never arrived due to the elevator that was broken!! The front […] desk another rude story, the New York attitude was in full force. The lobbies the size of a bus stop. Overall I wont be a customer again, nor will the 5 other couples that were in our group. They all felt the same, a bad experience! ! Read more
"Elevators"
There are only 2 elevators available to access rooms on 42 floors and there was constantly a long wait for the elevators.

"rundown and cutting too many corners"
The room was large for NY and the bed was very comfortable. However, there was no soap dish in the bathroom, the bath tub was an old jacuzzi (jets not functional) that is difficult to climb in and out of, and the tiles had lots of black gunk in the grouting. Also, the heating unit worked sometimes, not other times. There was not nearly enough light […] in the room -- every fixture had a very very dim bulb, so even with everything turned on it was nearly impossible to read. Read more

"Flatotel Review"
Room could have been a lot cleaner. It felt a bit dirty. The kitchen and bathroom were really run down. Room service has limited times (no lunch).
