"A Clean Place"
It was an average place to stay. As a previous review I read before going to stay at Ambassador Hotel. Front Desk tells you that you got an upgrade but it is what you paid for originally. Average room with old appliances that need replacement, clean room, shower clogged up 5 times in 5 days - unsat. Rooms were ok, staff was friendly and helpful for the most part. They did change our room to one with a kitchen because ours didn't have one. It was close to many restaurants and shops but didnt seem that close to the beach. The bus stop was a few steps away from the hotel. The location was good and the view wasnt bad, but the bad tub was rusty and dirty, and the hallways were a bit creepy and ugly. It was an okau stay. This is literally my first review on any hotel. This hotel was horrible and VERY different from what is on the website. We stayed in this hotel through on of the websites that offer a special. (Expedia etc.) The rate online is one pay but when you get to the actual hotel you WILL have to pay EXTRA. This is an extra for amenities that in any other hotel […] that we have been to, it actually comes with the hotel. For instance the extra that you are paying for is for the hotel pool, game room, laundry room, a bike service that you can use between certain hours IF there are any there, and the list goes on. All of this on top of paying more money separetly for parking which was $25 A NIGHT! The extra cost was NOT put anywhere on the actual hotels website. To make sure i checked before I left and whipe inside infront of then staff.Needless to say the only time we where in the hotel was to shower and sleep because we didnt want to be in or around the hotel. The hotel room that we stayed in didnt have a microwave or coffee pot. When asked they said we had to pay extra a night because it only comes in the Deluxe and Penthouse only! Never had i been to a hotel that doesnt have a microwave at least in the room. This hotel is only good if u dont care what hotel and just need it for sleeping. Even if you do make sure you bring deeeeeep pockets (alot of money) because it is gonna cost ALOT for literlly a little. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The hotel needs to be modernized. The bed spreads are old and outdated. The room we were in was spacious and had a kitchen with refrigerator. Only stayed there for the night to sleep. We were out and about for the daylight and part of the night hours. They could have had a little bigger beds. Three single beds and one double. The two single beds in […] the front room were day beds. The air conditioners are wall mounted and make plenty of noise and aren't efficient enough for the area to cool. The Ambassador is a good place to stay... when you need a place to stay and not much more. The room is sparsely decorated. Walls could use a new coat of paint. Plus the "resort fee" appears to simply increase the price since there is not much of a resort. It is, however, a sufficient place to stay in a location with LOTS of expensive places that provide […] services that are necessary or appreciated when you simply need a place to stay. "convenient & clean"
Hidden costs were a surprise. Knew of the resort fee but all the benefits were lost on me. I only needed WI-FI the rest was superfluous fluff. I was shocked to pay an additional $25 for 1 night parking. The staff and hotel was clean and suitable. The room was likewise but I was "upgraded" (?) to a room with a partial ocean view & kitchen. The room had […] odor of shoyu - very distracting and the ocean view was leaning out and craning ones neck from a corner of the lanai. Overall, for 1 night it was OK if you plan on spending more than expected for what you thought you would get. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Ambassador Hotel Waikiki Thank you very much for your comments about our property. I apologize for your room to have the shoyu odor. Our housekeeping staff would have been glad to remedy the problem as soon as you bring it to their attention. "Basic, but clean"
This hotel is very basic - all concrete, drab hallways and plain rooms - but it was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff helpful. There is a filtered water station in the lobby, which is great since the tap water in Honolulu in general tastes a little weird. There is a coffee shop attached to the hotel that opens at 5 am, which was super […] convenient as I had many early morning meetings. The kitchenette was stocked with basic pots pans dishes, etc. ABC store also right next door. Response by Ambassador Hotel Waikiki Thank you for your comments! We apologize for the negative impression our property left during your visit. Booked one night at this hotel only because the Hotel.com agent said they have free airport shuttle. Response by Ambassador Hotel Waikiki Thank you for your comments! I apologize for the mis-information provided to you about the free transportation from the airport. Unfortunately transportation from the airport is strictly enforced by licensees of the State of Hawaii Airports Division. Since Waikiki is approximately 20-30 minute drive from the airport (depending of traffic), limousine and taxi services are the only means of transportation at this time. Response by Ambassador Hotel Waikiki Thank you for your comments! We appreciate your business and taking the time to evaluate our service. We decided to add services and amenities that were hightly requested by our guests who have stayed with us in the past, including the use of Wi-Fi in the room or anywhere on the property. Many hotels charge a per-person, per day rate for the use of Wi-Fi service which is limited to only their lobby area. We apologize about the parking fees that we have to charge. Our daily parking rate is on the low end of the Waikiki area, which allows in and out privileges. Other hotel properties have a valet service system and charge much higher rates up to $50.00 a day, or a pay for each time you go in and out of their parking facility. Again, Mahalo for taking the time to evaluate us. Roy Yamamoto General Manager

"no way should they charge an amenities fee"
the room was cheapest and I needed it for an overnte stay after and event , i live half hour drive away, so was in the hotel for about 7 hours total. the rate was good but they charge an additional charge for amenities (twenty bucks) and then another charge to park (twenty five bucks) so the room is very basic cinder block walls, teh bedding are those […] brown nappy blankets that hide dirt and cheap think sheets, flat pillows , furniture from the 70s, but on the plus side, room had kitchenette and walk in closet and was big enough. the amenities package: 1. a plastic bag thing that is a water bottle, you can fill it up out of a machine in the lobby and you have as much as an individual water bottle, I suppose at least it uses less plastic than bottles so is ecologically sound. also the charge covers internet but i didnt try it, and a business center and fitness center I didnt see either and there is a pool but add the extras up when you decide Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Our stay was great. We were upgraded which was nice and unexpected. Room was bigger with kitchenette. Air conditioning system was loud which is about par. Towels could be upgraded. Whoever did the tile work should have been fired the first day. Door has wide gaps which allowed for air flow but made me question security. Beds were very firm but we slept […] well with the air off. The biggest deal was the unexpected ammenity fee. I was charged $20+ for wi fi and water bottles so decline that . You can use the wi fi downstairs. Parking was also an issue. We had to park across the street at Maile Skycourt which was full. I almost wasn't allowed to park there but the attendant had mercy on me so it worked out. Otherwise there's minimal parking available. Location is great, staff was great. The hotel itself is fine but I chose this hotel for the lower price compared to other comparable hotels in the area but there is an "amenities charge" for things like wifi internet, gym and other stuff that you expect to be a part of the price that they have on the hotels.com site. Response by Ambassador Hotel Waikiki Thank you for your comments! The resort amenity fees are added to allow our guests to use the many amenities we offer at our property. "Clean and convenient for a 1960s era hotel"
A friendly staff only slightly makes up for the 1960s era hotel's well aged interior. My wife joined me on a business trip to Waikiki. We live on Hawaii island and regularly come to Honolulu for meetings etc. I booked the Ambassador for its large rooms so that my wife could work remotely a few days. She said that it was spacious enough to feel comfortable. […] The hotel was clean and had relatively new linens and fresh looking white painted walls but there were several places where the age of the place peaked through. For example the bathroom floor tiles were very stained, the small shower's pipe fitting were loose, scuffed walls and a battered balcony door. The low brown carpet looked so bad that my wife wore her sandals every minute she was inside despite my assurances that it was clean. Add all of this to the noisy air-conditioner and the over all feel to the place was much closer to a 1 - 2 star hotel/motel experience rather than the 3 star hotel described on their website. Their hidden $20 per day resort fee also did not endear us to this hotel since it only provided two 50 cent water bottles and a series of amenities that are standard for most hotels. This extra fee has unfortunately become the standard of all Waikiki hotels and there is no way to opt out. I had heard from others that my experience is typical of the Ambassador and since I have had much better experiences in Waikiki I will be looking elsewhere during my next visit.
