The Ambassador is a good place to stay... when you need a place to stay and not much more. The room is sparsely decorated. Walls could use a new coat of paint. Plus the "resort fee" appears to simply increase the price since there is not much of a resort. It is, however, a sufficient place to stay in a location with LOTS of expensive places that provide […] services that are necessary or appreciated when you simply need a place to stay. "convenient & clean"
Hidden costs were a surprise. Knew of the resort fee but all the benefits were lost on me. I only needed WI-FI the rest was superfluous fluff. I was shocked to pay an additional $25 for 1 night parking. The staff and hotel was clean and suitable. The room was likewise but I was "upgraded" (?) to a room with a partial ocean view & kitchen. The room had […] odor of shoyu - very distracting and the ocean view was leaning out and craning ones neck from a corner of the lanai. Overall, for 1 night it was OK if you plan on spending more than expected for what you thought you would get. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Ambassador Hotel Waikiki Thank you very much for your comments about our property. I apologize for your room to have the shoyu odor. Our housekeeping staff would have been glad to remedy the problem as soon as you bring it to their attention. As for the parking, our parking charges are considerably lower than other properties in the Waikiki area which charges higher rates for valet services. Our parking is self parking, which allows you free access of in and out services from the parking lot. Again, much mahalo for your comments! Roy Yamamoto General Manager
""Used Cars" of hotels - Are you kidding me?"
We stayed at three different hotels for our week long vacation, and checked into the Ambassador for our last day in Waikiki. We had booked this stay for 3, two adults and our 13 year old boy through Expedia. First off, no parking while trying to check in, so I stayed with the car to keep it out of the way. My wife waited in line and when finally got […] to one of the clerks, the clerk wouldn't check her in without me there. The clerk also tried to tell my wife that our already paid for stay didn't include a $30 fee which she wanted to charge for our son, plus a $20 "resort fee". The resort fee we knew about, but this place was anything but a resort...total ripoff! The charge for our kid...common again a total ripoff. The staffer was rude and only when I came in from the car did she agree to waive the $30 child fee. The hotel was dark and dingy. We were supposed to get water bottles(water not safe?), but didn't receive them most likely due to our disputing the extra charges for a pre-paid booking. We asked about options for parking and was told the only option was paying them $25 a night at their facility. We found streets which were free a short distance away, but with no help from the hotel. As I stated, we stayed at 3 different hotels, and while only one was spectacular, the Waikiki Sand Villa was such a better experience with super friendly staff and eager to help attitudes. Night and day difference and I would not stay at the Ambassador again if if it were free. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Had a great stay at the ambassador & liked how they used beds as couches because it made sleeping situations easier. "Basic, but clean"
This hotel is very basic - all concrete, drab hallways and plain rooms - but it was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff helpful. There is a filtered water station in the lobby, which is great since the tap water in Honolulu in general tastes a little weird. There is a coffee shop attached to the hotel that opens at 5 am, which was super […] convenient as I had many early morning meetings. The kitchenette was stocked with basic pots pans dishes, etc. ABC store also right next door. Yes, they do charge a resort fee, but even with the fee the rate was competitive with other hotels in the area. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Hard work and great effort of all employees has been marred by only one guy front desk guy Rodel was really poor. Response by Ambassador Hotel Waikiki Thank you for your comments! We apologize for the negative impression our property left during your visit. "Do not stay here"
Within 15 minutes of checking in we checked out and because there was no refunds on our booking we lost our money but were totally ok with that. Under no circumstances were we staying in that room. Check in was a nightmare and slow and was our first impression of what was to come. As soon as we walked into our room we were disgusted. This is not a hotel. […] It is low income housing. Response by Ambassador Hotel Waikiki Thank you for your comments! I apologize for the mis-information provided to you about the free transportation from the airport. Unfortunately transportation from the airport is strictly enforced by licensees of the State of Hawaii Airports Division. Free shuttle bus service is provided only to hotels within the airport area and there are currently only three hotel properties. Since Waikiki is approximately 20-30 minute drive from the airport (depending of traffic), limousine and taxi services are the only means of transportation at this time. Response by Ambassador Hotel Waikiki Thank you for your comments! We appreciate your business and taking the time to evaluate our service. We decided to add services and amenities that were hightly requested by our guests who have stayed with us in the past, including the use of Wi-Fi in the room or anywhere on the property. Many hotels charge a per-person, per day rate for the use of Wi-Fi service which is limited to only their lobby area. We apologize about the parking fees that we have to charge. Our daily parking rate is on the low end of the Waikiki area, which allows in and out privileges. "Ambassador Hotel Worst Hotel Ever!!!!!!!"
This was by far the worst experience We've ever had. The room smelled of mildew. The lanai had a bucket for the water coming off the A/C unit that was full the entire time. The Lanai was wet with overflow . The housekeeping staff and maintenance were very nice but did not clean the rooms very well. And on top of all this they had the nerve to charge […] us a 20 dollar a day resort fee. Even though this place was far from being a resort.. No coffee in the rooms, the beds were horrific. "Suprise! Suprise! Suprise!"
It's now my understanding the Ambassador Hotel is under new management and with that came with increased room rates, increased parking fee rates and the introduction to an Amenity Fee. The night manager Karla Millan who explained the fee's was rude, discourteous when I turned in my parking pass and inquired about the parking fees. I was then inform […] of the Amenity Fee which we weren't aware of it , didn't need it, didn't want it and didn't use any of the so called services. So why were we charged an extra $167.52 ? It was prudent of me to supress my thoughts while Ms Millan made a fool of herself and the hotel she represents. As frequent visitors to Hawaii and this Hotel, we have over looked their deficiencies and there are numerious ones and placed this Hotel in a brighter light. Our past complimentry letters may have been an insentive for management to blindside the visiting public. the room was cheapest and I needed it for an overnte stay after and event , i live half hour drive away, so was in the hotel for about 7 hours total. the rate was good but they charge an additional charge for amenities (twenty bucks) and then another charge to park (twenty five bucks) so the room is very basic cinder block walls, teh bedding are those […] brown nappy blankets that hide dirt and cheap think sheets, flat pillows , furniture from the 70s, but on the plus side, room had kitchenette and walk in closet and was big enough. the amenities package: 1. a plastic bag thing that is a water bottle, you can fill it up out of a machine in the lobby and you have as much as an individual water bottle, I suppose at least it uses less plastic than bottles so is ecologically sound. also the charge covers internet but i didnt try it, and a business center and fitness center I didnt see either and there is a pool but add the extras up when you decide Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Our stay was great. We were upgraded which was nice and unexpected. Room was bigger with kitchenette. Air conditioning system was loud which is about par. Towels could be upgraded. The per day charge is per room and not per person and provides wi-fi access to as many occupants in the room who are registered. Many other properties offer wi-fi only in the lobby and charge a per-person daily fee. "Great Location, very nice staff"
We stayed in one of the Penthouse units. I have a big family of 7 and it worked out perfectly. Large living area with small dining area and kitchen. Three bedrooms with 2 double beds in each room. Had a problem one night where the couple from the unit next door barged into our apartment and scared my teenage daughter. Apparently housekeeping forgot […] to lock up correctly after they cleaned. The front desk manager (Sean) made it up to us by sending my whole family to a wonderful seafood buffet...quite a treat. The views, even in the middle unit, are phenomenal. The staff are awesome. The kitchen has most of the basic needs for cooking plus a full fridge. Small annoying things that don't matter that much are: Laundry was tough because one of the three machines was broken and there was a huge line waiting. Wifi is very slow but doable.
