I scoured the internet looking for the best place to stay on St. Martin. I wanted a nice room on the French side with an ocean view. That's exactly what I got and then some. The location is truly perfect - in the heart of Orient Bay Village with cute restaurants just outside the hotel. Orient Bay Beach is beautiful, but crowded during the day. We usually […] spent the day on another beach and walked Orient Bay at night. The room itself is nice, but not exceptionally glamorous. It had just what we needed and was quite comfortable, but it's not a luxury suite. I'd say it's clean, cozy, and well equipped, but not a 5 star resort - which is actually a good thing. I felt like we had an authentic experience. The staff was incredibly friendly, gave great suggestions on things to do. We LOVED the croissants and fruit for breakfast that came with our room. Restaurants within walking distance and all were great. We drove to Spiga one night but next year will not bother. Also went to L'astolab whichwas great.Geraldine & Arneau at Alamanda were both very professional & helpful. Continental breakfast was wonderful.

Water and snorkeling a little better in this area. Restaurants 2 minute walk are great. Can charge all but tip to the room. Little pricey. Large modern grocery store 10 minutes by car. Small grocery store 5 minute walk. French side is quieter and less developed. Recommend day trip by catamaran to Prickly Pear. Leaves from Simpson Bay. Roads are small and in poor shape. Wonderful stay at The Alamanda from the beginning 'til the end! We were warmly greeted and welcomed and escorted to our beautiful room on the second floor where everything was spotless. The air conditioner worked well the entire time- there was a period of approximately 3 hours we didn't have power one afternoon, but no problem, we just went to the […] beach bar where the bartenders were very gratious and funny, and had a few drinks before dinner. The maid always left us extra towels, even face clothes, and beach towels were also provided. If you ever needed directions to anywhere they were more than willing to provide exact directions including a map. Air conditioner worked well and bed was comfortable. Having a refrigerator and microwave in the room was great! This hotel is in the best location on the beach. Orient Beach is just steps away. We read a lot of reviews before choosing Alamanda Resort and after spending a week there are very glad that we chose it over the others. There are no five star hotels on Orient Beach so if you are looking for the Ritz Carlton go elsewhere. Our room was clean, although […] a little dated. The mattress was not great but we slept soundly every night anyway. Orient Village is directly behind the hotel and was much nicer than what I was expecting. Excellent restaurants with varied menus, and everyone was so nice. You don't need to leave Orient VIllage to eat unless you just want to. We drove ourselves over to Grand Case one night and ate at the Rainbow Cafe which was very good with a beautiful view at sunset looking at Anguilla. The Alamanda has an arrangement with the Kakao Beach bar across the street for a free beach chair an umbrella. The food is really good at Kakao, and you can charge your meals to your room. Great burger! Food and drinks can be delivered to your chair right on the beach if you want. Breakfast at the hotel is okay, but we liked getting fresh warm croissants from the market in Orient Village every morning. We highly recommend Alamanda and will be back again for sure. Read more

I would really like to give this hotel a higher rating overall. When I booked it, I booked because of Trip Advisor ratings. I loved St. Martin but the room was dated. The mattresses were hard and that was disappointing. It was the first hotel where I preferred to live out of a suitcase rather than put my clothes in the drawers. The kitchenette wasn't […] really equipped for much. The shower was not clean and the one washcloth in the room in day one was dirty. But I brought it to management's attention and they took care of it. The manger also took car of booking the car rental which was very nice and gave me a good rate. I thought the grounds were nice over all and the selling point is the beach which was awesome. However, if you are prone to be attacked my mosquitoes like me you have to slather on the repellant. i travel in the Caribbean alot and expect it. but for the room to be fine I was attacked at breakfast and anywhere else at the hotel. We ate breakfast at the hotel once. It was not good at all. There are plenty of better places to eat that you can check out. You need to rent a car while you are there as it is not cost effective to take a taxi anywhere. We intended to spend more time on the Dutch side, but aside from shopping, we like the quiet nature of the French side, and there's alot to explore and if you have time (we didn't , unfortunately) take advantage of the close proximity of Anguilla and St. Barth's to do a day trip there. Alamanda has a wonderful location just steps off the beach. The Staff is very helpful and friendly. The only down fall was the comfort of the beds - luckily after spending the day at the beach and beach bars you are exhausted enough to fall asleep on a rock. Still would not hold us back from staying there again - 5 Star location!

I also stayed in the 5 star Westin (Dutch Side Marteens) and prefer to stay here at the Alamada. Nicer beach and better beach experience with a variety of food and shopping without driving. Also the "restaurant court" with 5 or 6 restaurants adjacent to the hotel is nice. The room had small kitchenette and there was a small convenience/grocery store […] nearby if you just wanted to buy some food and drink without going to a restaurant. The French - St Martins attitude is very laid back. Some dogs and cats wander the area which might be off-putting to some! FYI, there are no signs to help you find this place if you drive yourself here - just study the website photos of the courtyard and keep an eye out when driving up to the beach front drive. First the good: The location is wonderful! It is in a gated community near a beautiful beach. Quite a few delicious restaurants just behind the hotel. Free continental breakfast was great every morning and the waitress was very friendly and officient. The bad: We paid for a room with a pool view and were put in a room that looked at an alley, and the […] air conditioner did not work in the room. The next day (the front desk worker couldn't do anything about it our first night) the manager informed us that she usually doesn't let people switch rooms, and there weren't any pool view rooms available. She allowed us to move to a garden view room with a tv with no sound and a door with a broken lock. We were locked in the room if we shut the door all the way, so we had to jump over the balcony, and walk back around to the door to get it open! Outlook: They are closing for mainentence for two months, so hopefully they will make the necessary repairs to the rooms to get all of them back in rentable condition. I recommend renting a car if you want to do any traveling around the island. Free parking was available everywhere we went. Read more

They were all great except for the thai rest. stay away from there, I'm not sure if the waitress was lazy or just didnbt like americans, but we were the only ones who couldnt get her attention, even when she walked right past us. I found out that there are new owners and we hope that what we saw and experienced was just transition pains. The hotel is in need of refurbishment. This was our first time to St. Martin and we chose to stay on the French side to get away from the cruise ship traffic in Philipsburg. The location of the hotel was perfect right off the beach next to a courtyard with restaurants and shops. The hotel was clean and the staff was very helpful, the rooms are a bit basic but we spent most of our time exploring […] the island so it was not a problem. The room includes a breakfast of fruit, juice and pastries. The hotel does not have a large sign so it is a little difficult to find. Grand Case is about 5 minutes away by car and has the best restaurants on the island. We went to Spiga for Italian, Bistrot Caraibes for French, and Talk of the town for authentic St. Martin barbeque. For some lunches we picked up food at a grocery store 3 minutes up the road by car. We also took a day trip to Anguilla Shoal Bay, (there is a ferry that leaves from Marigot $15 each way) which was a fantastic beautiful beach. We also recommend a trip to Fort Louis in Marigot. We also visited a butterfly farm about 5 minutes from the hotel. You highly recommend a rental car so you explore. The only area we really would not visit again would be Philipsburg as it is very congested. Overall wonderful trip! Read more

We have stayed at the Alamanda seven times and I believe this may be our last visit. They need to remodel and I have concerns with employees in our room when there was no reason for them to be there.

One desk clerk did overcharge us for a referral to an outside boat ride vendor. We had to pay her a "deposit" in cash before going to the vendor and then paying the vendor an inflated rate for his service. Also, when we wanted to upgrade a room, we were quoted $70, but we were charged $80 by the time we decided to do so.
