"Amazing Location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 4, 2012
Na Balam got some underserved poor scores. The location happened to be the best location on the island (as far as beaches go), and fairly convenient to excitement of down town. The grounds were spectacular, and for such a reasonable price. Front desk and beach bar staff were not amazing, but not bad either. They could do some training on customer service in order to make it a more magical experience, but all in all, it was acceptable service.
"great deal for your money"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 2, 2012
Fantastic deal for your money. The confirmation from hotels.com said that our room had ocean, pool and garden view.... it didn't. The view was just trees. We had booked a king size bed but got 2 queens instead so that was disappointing but over all a great place. Men need to bring long pants if you're planning on eating in the a'la cart restaurants. The buffets are great, a'la cart is ok.

I loved the hotel and the service is wonderful, however I was really disappointed in the beach. We had to travel to another Palace resort to swim in the ocean and take pictures. But that is my only complaint.

Wow! What an amazing time we had staying at the Royal Solaris!! We spent our 19th anniversary at this all inclusive resort for 4 days and never even had the slightest urge to go into town or leave the hotel. Friendly staff checked us in. They were knowledgeable, efficient, and there was no waiting. The Time Share lady who offered us a "quick tour" of […] the hotel but did not get pushy or upset when we told we just wanted to get to our room and then hit the beach. She asked that we come see her, but we never did and we never got bothered with Time Share talk the rest of the time. The multiple pools looked like lots of fun, but hey...we have a pool at home so we spent every waking minute at the beautiful beaches. The "vendors" walking up and down the beach were not pushy at all and after each one made their 1st pass/effort, they didn't bother us the rest of the day. Benjamin and Kike (pronounced kee-kay), were our beach waiters over the weekend and both of them were absolutely tremendous!! We could not have asked for a better experience. The room was clean, it had a comfortable bed, and plenty of water pressure for our showers. Oh...and pay the little extra to get the beach view room...spectacular views of the sunrise and gorgeous blue waters!! Read more

"Hotel Royal Solaris- Excellent for everyone"
We traveled in a big group that included a family of 5 with small children under age of 6, a young couple and a single guy - this hotel catered to everyone! The food was EXCELLENT and staff at the restaurants were too!! The kids area and staff were awesome. The shows were pretty good, especially the traditional Mexican one. Beach was kept clean and […] they hire a lifeguard to watch the Royal Solaris Resorts. Drinks were heavy on the alcohol not watered down.Awesome experience! I would definetly return. Nice hotel. Took my family in December and had a lot of fun. My 3rd trip to Cancun. On my first stay at Oasis Cancun, I loved the Brazilian style Steak House. That was good. But, we missed that restaurant in this hotel. Friendly staff, upgraded from regular room to ocean view. Service was better than Oasis in terms of 4 stars vs 3 stars. Safe deposit […] box was included as Oasis charged extra for it. Free WiFi in the Lobby was nice. Nice hotel...give it a try. Read more

"Can't wait to return.. it's like family"
I have to admit, I was skeptical to find such a deal for the full family vacation in Cancun. The Royal Solaris was great! We had such a great time, the staff was absolutely awesome. We had a full party of 6 with our youngest only 7 years old. The kids club staff were so nice, accommodating and there was literally something for the kids to do all day […] and even a movie night. There were activities for everyone in the family. My family went on the Jungle excursion, they are still talking about it! While they were out, I had a massage, what a great little spa. The staff hosted a couple of clubbing nights in Cancun, our kids loved it, they felt safe and it was well organized. The rooms are spacious, and clean. We are right on the beach, so come one wouldn’t you expect a little sand in a few spots? Not here, the maid staff were so meticulous, I was seriously amazed each day! The beds were firm, fresh clean towels each day without fail. They don’t wake you up to make up your room, they are so patient and do a great job. Yes, we did have to wear bracelets, but come on, there must be some kind of process to accommodate the all inclusive rates. My suggestion is if you really dislike the bracelet, by a great silver bracelet in the gift shop, a little pricey but so cool! We were never hungry. The food was ok, but with our selections we had plenty of variety and it was fresh. Loved the breakfast omelets and fresh fruit. Marco Polo’s was fun and the portions were just right. I LOVE true Mexican coffees, they were happy to show off the table side Mexican coffee and bananas foster for our party. Fun Fun! The pool was wonderful, it does get crowded, but it amazing how you get know so many people when the Solaris staff brings everyone together with pool side games, fashion shows, painting pottery etc etc! The beach was great, and we were able to witness a sea turtle give birth! Our 7 year old loved it! There were so many reviews about Timeshare sharks, so I was prepared but we di Read more
"Good place for a short stay with kids"
This is a good hotel if you have kids and just want to hang out at the pool for a few days. The food was ok but not great. Rooms are fine but again, not anything to brag about. The staff was friendly but be prepared to be hassled about time share opportunities adn tours. We took a glass bottom boat reef tour with snorkeling (leaves from Dreams hotel) […] that was great. If you are looking for a more luxury experience, look elsewhere. Food will get boring after 2 days... Read more
"Good all around"
We stayed 3 nights at this location, food was good and the atmosphere was very nice, great location and a short bus ride to shopping and night clubs. The staff was very helpful and friendly, great value, will for sure revisit this location. Only complaint was noisy neighbors in the room next door made it hard to sleep, asked the front desk the next […] morning if they had any rooms without the adjoining door between them and they gladly gave us an upgraded room for no extra charge and they were very sorry for the trouble. "Had a good time"
I've spent countless hours reading comments over this hotel. I read over 400 reviews in a span of 4 days. Obviously good and bad. I spent 3 days at Royal Solaris and I really liked it a lot. The staff was great and the food was awesome. I had no problems with really anything there. I can see if you do stay there for 5-7 days the food might become boring […] after a while but due to my short stay it was just fine. The beer and tequila flowed every where. If you really want to save some money and don't mind staying at a good 3 star hotel then this is the place to be. I will be returning back. Read more
"Great all-inclusive in Cancun!"
I've stayed at several all inclusives, and this one was definetely on par with the others. The spa was very professional and well priced, the restaurants were all tasty and had a lot of variety of food, and our ocean view room with balcony was super awesome!! Only downer, beds are hard, but after a full day's worth of activity, you still fell right […] to sleep! Read more
Had such a great time. The beach is beautiful. You can get a massage down on the beach. The staff was amazing. So nice, accommodating, & lots of fun. I'd want to go back just to see the friends I made while there. Great place, great people. I highly recommend it.
"Fun in the Sun"
Arrived in the rain, and had some doubts. Second day was overcast. Made the mistake of not putting on sunblock because of cloudy conditions. UV rays are very strong, even on overcast days, and you can sunburn easily. Following days were splendid; sunshine and glorious aqua blue ocean and white sandy beach. By the end of the week, we atually appreciated […] the scattered clouds as a respite to the intense, direct sun. You can choose from seven restaurants to dine. The food is attractively presented and quantity unlimited. Cuisine is good, not gourmet, but certainly there is something for every taste. Frozen drinks at the bar are great. Staff friendly and helpful. Read more
"Thin walls, loud people, lousy food."
The only thing I can say about the Royal Solaris is that the water that lies next to it is beautiful. There were loud young adults which could be heard through the paper thin walls. Yes they were very loud yelling and whooping it up. The food not that great and could not even get a diet pepsi in the all inclusive resort. Had to leave the resort to find […] a local convenience store. It was not a nice relaxing place. It made us feel like cattle being herded around and having to where wrist bands was another joke to me. I would not do that place again. Read more

"Great for the Money"
If you want a vacation filled with suntanning and playing on the beach this is your place but if you want to go into town and do some shopping or eat out at one of the restaurants there are none within walking distance. The bus is very cheap though so its still not too bad. Food was good considering it was free. Staff was all very nice.
"Needs improvements - I do not recommend"
Terrible service- not much staff available. It was all inclusive and they didn't even have bottled water available. Food was horrible. Restaurants were dated. Rooms are older, bed is hard. The patio has a concrete slab blocking a beautiful ocean view, so all you see when sitting on the deck is the concrete slab wall. Overall I did not enjoy the stay […] and we checked out early, forfeiting all our money and paid for another place that was much nicer. The trip was great once we changed properties. Read more
"Solaris Hotel/Resort"
We had a blast! The entire staff was great. The only negative would be the smells in the public bathrooms...but this is Mexico...they need to start flushing their TP! You could find a quiet pool or a pool w/activities--your choice. Great fun.
"Great Experience"
Outside of the constant solicitors wanting you to sit through their "presentation" to join a vacation club my experience at the Royal Solaris was GREAT! Me and a friend just went for a quick weekend and decided to stay an extra day because we were so impressed by the service at the hotel for the price we paid. The rooms were spacious (bathrooms did […] need to be upgraded)and the amenities were wonderful! We are planning a return trip with other family and friends. Read more

"Outstanding Hotel"
I really loved the hotel. It had a lot of dining options. The pools and the outside was beautiful. The service was great. All-inclusive was definitely the way to go. The only issue that I had with the hotel was before I got there. I tried calling them a ton of times, and they were really hard to get a hold of and that was frustrating. "Excellent facility -great family vacation"
We had three rooms and a group of 10 people for a family vacation ages- 3 to 63. We were a little wary, never having done any kind of trip like this, but we were very happy with our experience. The rooms are nice, clean and updated. The food was great. Not every restaurant was open every night, but the variety was excellent. In addition, the two fancy […] restaurants provided meals that were easily in excess of $50.00 per person. There were many different pools with different depths, etc. Plenty of lounge chairs and the beach was right behind the pools. Free drinks and open buffets were nice! The kids club was nice and there were two kiddie pools. One was just a rectangle, by the other pools and the other was in the kids club with slides, etc. There was a craft area for the kids club. Most of these kids were from 4-11 years old The staff was super friendly and fun. There was stuff going on all the time. In addition, they told us how to cheaply get to downtown Cancun- bus is easy and cheap. They also helped with airport transportation. We had a van that cost us $8.00 per person round trip from the airport. Much better than $12.00 taxi ride per person, only one way! One disadvantage is that it is not super close to the downtown area, but for the price and less than $1.00 per person, the bus works just fine! The nightly entertainment was very good. It is done by the help, and they had a nice variety of fun/ family type shows. They were young and energetic. The shows were well choreographed and included audience participation. There wasn't really any snorkeling. You have to go on a tour/trip for that. The paddle boats, kayaks, wind surfing is not in the ocean, it is in the large lagoon across the road. It was hot the day we went, however, it seemend that all the hotels had these activities across the road. All in all, it was a great trip and excellent value for the money. Read more

"Hôtel Cancun all include"
Hotel near the airport, with nice beach, nice swimming pool, good cocktails, good foods, who organize visit of Cancun night club and others activities.
Good food and free drinks. Service was great. Nice pool and beach.
"Nice and quality hotel on the beach"
We just spent one night here; before flying home from Cancun. It was a very nice and fancy hotel, high quality in the furniture, cleaning, service, etc. The pool area was really cool and the general area was very big and hi-end. The ocean, however, was quite tough there (it was quite windy the day we were there), I wouldn't go swim there.. But even […] though it was very nice, we would not have stayed there for many days if we had the option - because it is too big, too many other guests, and you need to be a person that wants some "action" (e.g. loud music, party, volleyball, etc.) by the pool and don't mind some noise. It was very oriented towards families with small children and young people, who wanted to play pool volley and drink drinks from the pool bar. So if you are into that stuff, it is great. But if you want your holiday to be relatively peaceful, you should probably go somewhere else; to one of the islands. Read more

"The Royal Solaris-Cancun"
Fantastic wait-persons,pool staff, bartenders, desk staff. Hotel is old and dated though and needs renovating. Set in a beautiful location and waking up to the carribean with beautiful warm breezes coming into the room and the incredible blues and greens of the waves hitting the shore made up for what the room lacked. The food was okay with fantastic […] omelets made to order in the morning. They kept the beach clean of debris and seaweed. Nice swimming area that is guarded by attentive attendants. If you so choose to go, please beware of the following. After we had checked in (which they graciously allowed us to do quite early), we recieved a call from one of their hosts welcoming us to the hotel and invited us to join him in the lobby so that he could explain to us what the hotel has to offer and where everything is located. At this point I was very impressed with this type of welcome. They initially tell you where everything is located and what times the programs etc are offered. They offer you a t-shirt each as well as a couple of beach bags and something else that I can't remember specifically and all that is required is that you come to a "presentation." They are about to detain you for an hour and a half over breakfast while they put the thumb screws to you and offer you a time-share to a complex which has seen better days. They of course are doing this prior to you having spent any time so that you can see how the place is lacking. The story we got from our host was about the family of five kids he was supporting and how this would help him get "points." Against our better judgement (we have been on the "presentations" before) we agreed to go the next morning although we were only staying for two nights. We cancelled later that night and got an incredulous "why?" followed by "but don't you want him to get his points?" I maintained that my precious time with my family was much more important than any points for their staff. Besides, if you really want a t-shirt an Read more

"Nice hotel, nothing expactular"
I actually stayed at Gran Royal Solaris Cancun. But Hotels.com only let me review this one. At first me and my friends were going to stay at Royal Solaris, but already after 2 hours we upgraded to their other hotel, door to door, Gran Royal Solaris Cancun. Royal Solaris: 1. Buffet, was not really tasty. 2. Restaurant was not much either, the staff […] were so stressed that you got a bad service. 3. The rooms were actually horrible: * Big junk TV, bad reception. * There was a connecting door to the room next door, you could hear EVERYTHING, even when they talked normally, because the door was so thin and in a bad shape. * The shower towels were old, disgusting green color. I actually felt dirty after I showered. 4. Alcohol * Baileys, Black Label and other was not included, they could not even offer it, even if we wanted to pay for it. * The quality of the alcohol were pretty bad. Now. Gran Royal Solaris Cancun: It was good, high standard, although not GREAT. Overall it was pretty good, the staff was a bit annoying in the end, they knew that we payed good tips after our meals (even though we did not have too), so they were getting a bit too much in the end. Also I fell in love at this Hotel. One girl in the breakfast staff that were welcoming people (TANYA), she was SOMETHING UNREAL, nice, smart, beautiful. I would marry her if I could... Read more
"Under Construction"
This hotel was under massive construction when we were there the night of Sept 30th. The pool was empty and under construction including the sound of jackhammers and saws fairly late into the evening. You could use the other pool of the neighbouring hotel. Food was ok, not a lot of choice, hotel was almost empty. Room was small, shower only. We stayed […] here for one night, was alright, would have been seriously disappointed if we were stuck there all week. Once the construction is done, it will probably be much better. "All inclusive at an affordable price"
Stayed here 3 nights and can't say a bad thing about the place. The beds were super comfortable (pillow top mattresses) and it's right on the beach. The drinks never stopped flowing and the buffet changed each night so it wasn't the same old stuff everyday. The only downside is it's at the bottom away from the nightlife and shops. Not a major deal since […] the buses never stop coming. Read more
"Horrible drinks"
If you plan on getting your money's worth with drinks, pick a different hotel! Not only is the liquor cheap, but the mixers that go with the liquor are cheap and gross. The hotel is nice, the pool is nice, good music. Lots of kids around. Roms are spacious and comfortable and clean. Two bars, one upstairs in the lobby and one in the pool that closes […] at 5 pm! So you are pretty much stuck at the lobby for nighttime entertainment. The marco polo restaurant where you can order what you want was a joke. You order and entree, it takes thrity minutes to get it and the salads literally have three leafs of lettuce. The meals and tiny so order at least three things off the menu so you aren't still hungry. I wouldn't stay there again unless the price was half of what I paid. Read more
"The Solaris hotel - the worst experience ever!"
If you want to ruin your vacation, you should try this hotel that apparently is 20 years in the business. They claim to be a 5 stars hotel, but their rooms hasnt been changed since years, they look very old fashion. We were very disappointed with our stay there,we actually thought its a very good deal for the price we paid for a all inclusive package, but […] we had the worst experience of our life, the food was terrible and we will never go back to that hotel again, ever, even if its for free. The staff is very unprofessional and they check you out if you are member or not, and based on that, they treat you accordingly. They mention its an all inclusive resort, but we had hard time finding drinks like Bailey,Fitness,etc..which are very accessible in other resorts, we actually had to pay extra to drink them. Another experience that we had is they sneaked in our room and took our bathing robes, without any prior notice, they told us,it was a security measures before we left, it was very annoying.
