Great location, easy parking, delicious breakfast, friendly helpful staff. Only suggestion is to freshen up the property, especially the rooms that are getting worn. The property is relaxing and environmentally friendly.

Distinct positives were the friendly and responsive staff, overall cleanliness, complimentary parking and exceptional complimentary continental breakfast offering. One of the best hotels I've stayed at. It is an oasis of peace and calm in the middle of urban L.A. Although a bit removed from the various centers, public transport was very convenient to get anywhere I wanted to go, and if you're driving, parking is free (unheard of!). This was our first time staying at the Ambrose. Lovely property with outstanding service. Our only quibble was that we were assigned a handicap accessible room though it wasn't requested or needed. This particular room is a little smaller than others and the bathroom errs on the side of open space to maneuver than counter space for you to put things […] on. There wasn't a closet either, just a hanging rod within the armoir that also held the television, which made hanging clothes for the wedding event we were attending more difficult. They compensated by putting hooks to hang clotehs on one of the walls. None of these took away from the overall enjoyment staying at the property. We will definitely stay again. Read more

Clean, beautiful room, nice breakfast. A bit far to the beach but that you could read out from the map before booking. The only thing I did not like was that they did not refill the breakfast (plates and cheese) the last half hour of breakfast time, which was when most guest were eating on a weekend.

Great location in Santa Monica, convenient to Hwy 10 and 405, good neighborhood. Tastefully decorated and comfortable, though the furniture and carpets are in need of some attention (showing age and wear). I'd stay there again. Book well in advance to get the best rates.

My wife and two young daughters stayed here recently for 5 nights as part of our Southern Calif vacation. We coudn't have asked for a nicer place to stay. We had one daughter on special temp medication and they were able to refrigerate it for us. We locked up valuables both in the room safe and in the mgr's office. Really enjoyed the Ambrose Hotel in Santa Monica! Very nice, quaint, and comfortable. The only problem I had was that I was charged for an item from the mini-bar that wasn't used. Called them up and they immediately fixed the bill, great customer service!

While this hotel is pretty far away from the main walking areas of Santa Monica, the free parking, free WiFi, free breakfast, free hotel taxi and free bikes all make up for the location. The location is great, however, if you want quick access to the freeways to explore the rest of LA. The free bikes were convenient, but kind of junky and not very well […] maintained. Still, they got us around the very bike friendly city. The free hotel taxi service around Santa Monica was a great feature we took advantage of to go out at night. I give it low marks on comfort because the downside to our stay was our room location (room 211) - it faced the alley with garbage and delivery truck noise right outside our window all day long starting before 8am. Not great for sleeping in or napping during the day. It was also next to the housekeeping closet, which was noisy all day too. If you want quiet, ask for a room that does not face the alley. My room faced back with a clear view of the hospital loading dock. At 7:30 am you get to hear the booming noise of metal garbage bins being loaded into sanitation trucks. Very loud!! Not an issue if you do not need to sleep late, still annoying if you are already awake. I give the hotel 4 stars but knock off a star for the noise.

This is our second stay at the Ambrose. Just a short 25 minute walk to all that is happening in Santa Monica without being right in the middle of it all. The hotel is so quiet with a nice seating area in front. Biggest plus is that parking is free in their underground garage. Enjoy the expanded continental breakfast, too.

I appreciated the up-grade on my room, which had a great balcony. Breakfast was good, and the staff helpful and courteous. The location is over a mile from the beach, but it's at a quieter location, even though only a block from Wiltshire Blvd. with its restaurants and a nearby Whole Foods grocery.

We really enjoyed this hotel. The room itself was very comfortable, the location was convenient to everything we needed. I was impressed with the easy / free parking and free internet! The only reason that I did not rate this hotel a 5 was because we were awakened every morning at 7:30am by the sound of garbage trucks emptying big dumpsters and it went […] on for about 30 min. The Ambrose is AWESOME! The rooms are beautiful in a safe, quite area. Very Green! Organic snacks on the mini bar, recycling can in room.The staff was so super and the cleaning staff when beyond!! I'm very picky about where I lay me head...LOL!! I actually slept on the bedding which felt so clean and comfortable :-) Ask for a room with a garden view. […] The sound of the babbling brook was relaxing. Free parking! Stayed in Beverly Hills 3 week prior and paid $30 a day just to park. Nice safe parking deck. Ambrose is accessible to shopping and restaurants. They have bikes for rent. Absolutely Awesome Place! Although it is a nice boutique style hotel, parking is diffcult to attain, esp after 10pm and I did not realize this was a very eco friendly hotel and there were no smoking rooms. So as long as your not a smoker, you will probably enjoy your stay here.

Whilst it is 20 blocks from the ocean the hotel offers a free shuttle, so we would regularly get a ride down and walk back (30 minute walk). Its sole weakness was that it doesn't have a dining room, and as breakfast ends at 9.30 many residents eat between 8.30 and 9.30.
