I really liked the location and the hotel is coolest building (by far) to look at from the outside. Our room was on the ocean side and we had the best view! Bongo's was great. We were there for a wedding and everything was great! Definately would return!!!

If it was not for Bongo's Beach Bar attached to the hotel I wouyld have tried to move to a different hotel/resort. The bathroom was tiny and did not have enough room for me to set down a shaving kit. Stayed on 4/19. Wanted on the beach, with an ocean view so paid extra for an upper floor, ocean-facing room. PROs - Excellent location. Great view, room had balcony. Check-in desk, bartenders, room service, wait staff, etc. - all pleasant. Free parking. Food (Bongos, Spinners, Room Service) excellent & not too pricey. Free lobby coffee very good. Room […] had a microwave and refrigerator. CONs - Live music EVERY day from 1:30 to 10:30PM. Most acts talentless, and were all LOUD - as in "hear the music with windows and doors closed eight floors away and AC running". OK on weekend afternoons and nights, but there's no need for it on weeknights when people want to get up early for a flight. Annoyingly loud sitting by the pool during the afternoon. Cutting the days or hours would save some money to update other features...like...the dated exterior (large cracks and worn paint) and rooms (dirty windows, cracked ceiling over windows, cracked floor tiles, need more shelf space in bathroom, cheap plastic "attached to rod" hangers). Pool and room towels were threadbare. About 50 cable channels (free HBO) and a nice 32" flat screen TV, but all channels were standard definition - total waste of the HD screen. Fitness center equipment was old - no place to hold water bottles or iPods. No wipes for the equipment, and need a fan or two for air circulation. Read more

Stayed here for a wedding in April and found the hotel to be okay .... A little dated and bathrooms were small all rooms sizes vary and views are okay if your lucky to get an ocean view .... Would maybe stay here again

Checked in and didn't like the location of my room. I booked the bay view but only saw a parking lot so I upgraded and front desk was accomodating. Bed was very comfortable but bathroom was not aas clean as I would like to see. Dust on shelving and hairs on floor. Loved the location and the beach restaurant bar was very nice. The air conditioning was not great but it was April so it wasn't hot outside yet but we had it set on 65 and it still wasn't cold in the room. But I could see it may be a problem in the extreme heat. Love this hotel! With a child in a local college we come to St. Pete's fairly often and have stayed at several others in the area but think we have now found "the" place. The Grand Plaza was nice enough but not exceptional. The best part of the hotel is the beach. Its a nice gulf coast beach, nicer actually than the DeSoto Fort beach 8 miles to the south which is (inaccurately) advertised as one of the best beaches in the US. Spinners restaurant, the revolving restaurant on top of the hotel is very nice as well, and […] a must-do if you stay at this hotel. Friendly service and a good pool to boot. The negatives are that because the hotel is round, the rooms end up being oddly shaped, which makes a lot of the space unusable, and it feels a bit cramped. The place is a bit musty overall. Had a great stay at this hotel. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the beaches were clean and not over crowded. Only issues were a tile floor that seemed to stay sandy and we had our sink stop up and overflow, but they were quick to resolve the problem. Great place with good restaurants on premise and surrounding areas!

Great location on the beach and many walkable services nearby. Easy drive from the airport. Free parking and never a problem finding a spot. Service was generally pleasant and helpful. Rooms were spacious and well equipped, although some updating could be done in the bathrooms. Bed was very comfortable. You should know there are no double beds in a 2 bed room. EVERY room has a "Murphy" bed. We learned this after we arrived and had no choice but to take it. Hallways at night reverberate sound and anyone just talking could wake you up.

Rooms could use a facelift. Pool area also needs attention...no shade, no place to get out of the wind. Internet service was HORRIBLE...only worked very early and very late. Pleasant, helpful, attentive staff.

The hotel staff was friendly and professional, and the location was quite nice. I was disappointed with the Murphy-style bed for the second bed. It was clumsy, and I cut my shin against it. Also the shower faucet was stuck and I could not turn it on.

We do not vacation unless we stay at an all amenty 1st class hotel. This hotel was advertised as such, but definitely is not one. Room service is available, however the quality and menu for room service is not the best as it was advertised. Movies on demand in room IS NOT available, you must go downstairs and rent an older movie, not on demand in room […] with payment. When ordering room service, there is no table wheeled in, you must move the table from the terrace into your room. Bathroom not comfortable for a woman or a family. Ocean front is gorgeous, however you must like the live entertainment, as it is louder then your tv, and very distracting. Extreme wear and tear is very noticable on bottom of walls. Realize, we will pay an enormous amount to satisfy our spoiled wants and desires. We vacation less, so when we go we expect to pay more for the best. This hotel will NOT be a return for us. It is not what it brags about in their aura, food, tranquility, not worth the money it charges. Personnel is excellent, very helpfull and polite. In fact I rate them all with an A+++ in their different positions. All is great, however to stay again, amenties are not up to par as stated. A no-go for us. Read more

Loved the spinning restaurant. Great beach location. Perfectly placed palm trees on beach, great for photos, would make a great wedding pictures. The Grand Plaza Beachfront is a comfortable beachfront get-away. The building, like many adjacent properties, is a bit tired, but well-maintained. My room, center beachfront, was smaller than I expected, but comfortable for one - a bit crowded for 3 the weekend before my conference began. Besides the king bed, there was a murphy double which doubled […] as a couch. The pool was great, but I wished the hotel had a whirlpool/hottub. It was a short walk to the Sirata where the conference I was attending was occuring. Beachfront rooms had the benefit/problem of being located over Bongo's - the beachfront bar with nightly entertainment. For the most part, I enjoyed the music, but a friend changed to a room on the other side of the building to get away from the music. The food at Bongo's and Spinners (roof top restaurant) was good. The view from Spinner's was outstanding (it's a revolving restaurant), but dinner prices were a bit high compared to other neigbhoring restaurants. The only MAJOR problem was ongoing internet connection issues - but the same problems were experienced next door at the Sirata. Quite frustrating when trying to work, but the view from my balcony made up for it!!! I would go back to this property again. Read more

We stayed in one of the Penthouses and the room and views of both the Gulf and the Bay were fantastic! The hotel itself, sits right on the beach and is very close to many restaurants. Since we arrived at the hotel in the evening, we decided to spend that night enjoying the entertainment at the hotels’ beach bar, Bongo Bongos. The music was great and it was fantastic to sit with our feet in the sand and feel the breeze from the Gulf. We also had lunch at Spinners restaurant on top of the hotel. The view was fantastic and the restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful and the service was great. The food at lunchtime, however, was just ok and we probably would not choose to dine there again for lunch. The only other down side that we encountered was that there was a wedding taking place on the same floor as our room and the music was extremely loud, late into the evening. While this didn’t affect us too much as we went out to enjoy St. Pete that night, I can imagine that if you had a meeting or conference to attend in the early morning, this would have made sleeping nearly impossible. This is an older hotel but clean, neat, on the water with a wonferdul group of staff. The restaurants on site served great food and being right on the beach makes the stay come together. We had a great time and will certainly return.
