While this is not a new property, it is clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the nightly music on the terrace.

Resort has held up well considering it's vintage. We liked the view and open lawns/trees on the property. Air Conditioner was not able to cool room all that well. Made for a less than comfortable sleep...great mahimahi sandwich though at the pool bar/restaurant. Happy hour all day specials on featured drink of the day were a nice touch!

The feel and look of this hotel is like stepping back to the 70's. I liked it though, it had an unique charm to it. The grounds are meticulous and the staff is extremely friendly. First look it was nice and clean, however when we went to bed […] we noticed the sheets felt like rough paper towels and the mattress was hard as a rock. After a very uncomfortable nights sleep we were woken to what sounding like a woman shrieking in our room. It was the water pipes in the wall making the noise and it continued on and off for about an hour. Also the price to eat at the hotel restaurant is outrageous. The Kaanapali Beach Hotel is an older property, but it has been well maintained and upgraded. Staff is courteous and helpful, and the rooms are comfortable. In winter months (during whale season), you can get whale tours which load right off the beach, and the kiosk directly in front of the hotel is for the best of the companies, Trilogy Tours. I stayed at this hotel 10 years ago and hoped it had been kept up. It certainly has been , and more. Room was beautiful, clean, ocean front as requested. Other areas were also excellent, except for one thing--no heated pool. Good beach, availability to golf course and Whalers Village are a plus. We loved our stay.

The hotel is located in Lahaina which is one of the more touristy places in Maui. It has the better beaches of the island [calm waters] unless you're into surfing. It is located on the west coast of Maui which is where the sun will set. The other more popular places to stay at is Wailea, but the beaches there aren't really beaches... they're really […] boulders or rocks. Since Lahaina is all the way on one side of the island it is a bit of a drive to the summit of Haleakala and to Hana. Those are really day trips so it's ok. There are tour buses that will take you there. The hotel is located near a small outdoor mall with a lot of shops and great restaurants. The hotel also is located along the beach and there is a small cliff [20-30 feet] along the other end of the beach where you can cliff dive if you what to experience that. Overall it's a great stay. There's essentially no 'surrounding neighborhood', you're in the midst of an enormous complex of hotels, with hotel stores and hotel restaurants. Anything else is well beyond walking distance. The room was nice enough, but I missed having a microwave. The hotel breakfast was outrageously expensive (~$22 for a buffet).

I stayed at this hotel with my 65-year old mother and 6-year old son, and we couldn't have been happier with the accommodations. The staff was courteous and friendly, the room was immaculate and nice, and the amenities were great. We valet-d our car every day, and never had to wait for it when we called for our car to be brought around (which we did […] two or three times a day). We kept our patio doors open all night, every night, so we could enjoy the sound of the ocean waves, and never got too cold or too hot. The AC worked great--we only turned it on once. We generally went swimming in the ocean in the morning, and then retired to the pool in the afternoon, when the waves got too big for my small son. Strangely, the pool was colder than the ocean, but I think that's because the ocean was VERY warm. The poolside bar was great, and ran happy hour specials every day. The lobby had a boutique with different artisans every morning too, which was nice to browse. You can rent chairs with either umbrellas or large sunbrella covers (we didn't) and then keep them all to yourself all day on the beach, which is nice. It's also conveniently located down the beach from where the large sailboats pick up people to go on sunset cruises. We loved the hotel! Read more

Upon arrival at the hotel, you are greeted with enthusiasm by staff. You are offered a free breakfast where the concierge will detail the things you can do at Maui. You can take various land, sea and air tours. You can see shows. Unfortunately the magician who offer one show fell off a ladder and was incapacitated for a few days; maybe he should have […] used his levitation trick. Initially I did not comprehend where the other show was in Lahaina or where you had to go to participate in some tours. I took the Lanai tour on boat but I had to take a bus to Lahaina. I registered at Trilogy desk on beach. On boat ride, I saw evidence of whales and porpoises. I took land tour of Lanai. I then snuba dived on beach. They had orange juice and cinnamon buns on boat. After arrival on island, they had lunch with grilled chicken and vegetables and pineapple for everyone. Then the boat returned to Lahaina harbor where you could take bus back. I frequently took bus with $4 pass in front of Whaler's Village to go to supermarket called Safeway. I also took same bus to Lahaina. I did not sign up for car rental. Others told me that they were all rented out. So better rent in advance. There is free show at hotel from 6-9 where drink is optional. There is a small Grill restaurant where you can order many small meals if you do not want to eat big. You can rent chairs/umbrellas on beach. You can use small pool to just cool off. In the day and age of hi-tech, this hotel is charmingly lo-tech, intimate and personal. It does not have the uber-glitz of some of its neighbors, but the location right on the beach is fantastic. The cultural aspect of the property is a gift to guests -- from the rooms, to the staff, to the food, entertainment, etc. It is not the kind of place for A-type […] personalities who want everything wired, quick and flashy. But, the bar is a classic (had an epic evening of Dale's mai-tai's) and the restaurant is excellent. In fact, the Hawaiian Natural Dinner was the best meal we had in Maui --well, Star Noodle tied it-- over Roy's, Hula Grill, Dukes. Don't miss the Sunday brunch buffet -- amazing! Great location near Whalers Village, a 1 minute walk, and some of the island's best snorkeling right at your door. Rooms are very average, but we didn't spend much time in them anyways. What makes this place so special is the welcoming vibe of the staff and the authentic quality of the entire property. Again, it is probably not the best place to stay if you and your family want the mega pools, the huge 4-story atrium lobby with designer boutiques, insta-tech gadgets/wifi, and a jet-set style Maui experience. We had a very nice time in this hotel. There was a certain warm and welcoming feeling, perhaps due to the hawaiian theme. We had a partial ocean view room on the 6th floor of the "Lana'i" building and we absolutely loved it. We could not see much of the ocean from our balcony but we could hear the waves at night. Our room was perhaps better because we could see the West Maui Volcano and in the mornings we could hear lots of birds as there were lots of trees outside our balcony. Perhaps our only complaint is that there weren't many vegetarian food options. I kept trying to figure out why this hotel was half the price of others on Kaanapali beach, but never did. The only thing that is "missing" from this hotel is a 3 story waterslide and multiple waterfalls in the pool (things found at the other Kaanapali resort hotels). The room was clean and comfortable. I did not try the hotel restaurants, so I cannot provide an opinion there, but there was a nice complimentary breakfast the first morning. The hotel offers free "classes" such as lei making and pineapple cutting. We tried to attend a ukelele class but there was a miscommunication with staff and we missed it. The pool is small (shaped like a whale)-- but who wants to go to the pool when you have a gorgeous beach? Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel for travelers who do not consider super fancy pools and beachside massage tables a necessity. Read more
