All the basic requirements were very good: clean, comfortable room; easy check in and out; competent, friendly main desk staff; good breakfast selection; clean breakfast area. Not the easiest place to find, but once we did, it was easy to find the next time. Would stay again.

Newspaper provided only the first morning. Smoking policy not enforced by the staff and when informed they simply sprayed the hall with air freshener. Hallway carpet stained and filthy dirty. The ac unit in our room did not work and it was 90+ degrees out side my family and I could not sleep because how hot it was. When I told the front desk about it he said sorry we don't have a service guy here tonight! Carpet was wet and sticky. I had to go to the pool area to vget a fan.

First of all, the front desk insisted that I had reserved a suite with a king bed and a sofa sleeper and refused to correct their mistake until I PROVED to them through my email confirmation through hotels.com on my blackberry that the reservation was for 2 queens and a sofa sleeper. They insisted that I did not reserve a suite for 2 adults and 4 children, […] which I also had to prove to them. We were given a hard time when going to the front desk to ask for more towels (we had 3 towels for 6 people), once again claiming we had more people in the room than what was reserved. The pool room had no towels for the guests, and when someone called to see if some could be brought to everyone in the pool, they brought 2 towels for a pool full of several guests. Also, the phone in our room did not work. We found this out in our search for towels, but would have really appreciated it working later on when we found a man laying on the ground outside our window late that night. Instead, I had to look up the hotels phone number in the yellow pages and call the front desk regarding the creepy man outside our window. They got rid of the man outside our window, but never reported anything to the manager regarding the situation. This was my daughters 13th birthday with 3 of her friends, what a nightmare! Read more

We always stay at the Waterford Holiday Inn Express, since 4 years ago when we first tried it. We have tried other hotels over the past 9 years after family relocated to that area and the HIE is the best. The beds are ALWAYS comfortable, the rooms always clean and the staff is unfailingly pleasant and helpful.

Many things should be fixed. The coat rack we could not use because it would have fallen on my kids heads. One door by the pool did not work and a nice lady actually let me in as I had pizzas and a cake in my hand. I was told when I called a week ago I could use a room off the pool for some pizza and cake for my daughter's birthday. they said they changed […] that policy when I arrived and would have ended up with 14 people in our room with pizza and a cake. Luckily, we were able to use to board room thanks to the staff at the time. I believe a dance company (my husband thinks it was the "dance moms" troupe) were very loud when they were in the pool and were right by there. The pool was great, however. The bed was swaybacked and used. The sink in the bathroom dripped no matter what. The wireless internet service did not work. When I asked at the front desk about the non-functional wireless internet, management could tell me only that, "Yeah, well, someone else said it wasn't working either...." and could do nothing to fix it.

This hotel meet our needs - a place for 6 of us to sleep on our 19 hour trip home. It was clean and comfortable. However, our floor was below ground and there was a musty smell in the hallway and our room and coming from the bathroom sink. It was a little unsettling.

We recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites in Waterford, MI for a wedding we attended. My husband and I felt that it was a decent value for the nightly rate, but certainly a "no-frills" experience. The room was very clean but uncomfortable temperature-wise. Even with the unit on "high cool" and set as cold as it could go the room was […] stuffy all night. It was the same story in the hallway and there didn't seem to be anything that the management on staff could do about it. It was livable, but rather uncomfortable for sleeping. Our only other complaint was the breakfast buffet. We both were ill about 3 hours after having eaten. It was convenient, but in retrospect I may have gone with safer choices from the offerings provided other than the eggs. All in all, it suited our needs for the trip but was by no means our best hotel experience ever. Read more

I asked the maid at check-in for shampoo, because i forgot mine. She informed me they have no shampoo. I stopped at the drug store and purchased. Later on the desk clerk informed me they have shampoo, but this was never in our room during our stay. We informed the desk clerk that we would be staying overnite in Canada during our stay and would return. […] We were informed to vacate the room and pack-up our luggage and the hotel would store the luggage. I don't have a problem with that due to the hotel may be full at the time we were away, however the desk cancelled our room key on the wrong day, after being away for the day and returning we unable to enter the security doors at rear of the hotel or our room due to the mistake. The room was not cleaned and no fresh towels. The desk clerk was sorry this happened and corrected the problem.. I called the desk and asked for a 3am wakeup call on the day we were to depart. I woke up at 4am and no wakeup call, Due to no wakeup call we almost missed our flight. When i asked the desk clerk why there was no wake-up call, he stated he was sorry about that.. Read more
