"smoke smell in the room, but very nice staff"
Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Dec 10, 2009
The biggest issue with this hotel is that they still allow smoking in some of the rooms on the 1st floor. This would not be a problem, except apparently the way the hotel is designed allows the smoke to travel through the air vents in the bathroom. I was on the 3rd floor and my whole room smelled like smoke the second night. It was awful. The manager was very nice and credited my room for one night. However, I cannot chance going there again. They do serve a free dinner on Wednesday nights. Last night was lasagna. It was very good and the staff is very nice. I wish that I could recommend based on that.

Look, this isn't the Ritz, but for a good price at a good location (freeway, eateries, etc), Hawthorn suites gives you a comfortable bed, decent kitchen, free wireless, breakfast (not just fruit and bagels) and more. Only 1 complaint: the TV was going out and everything was a bit green. But I wasn't there to watch TV, so...

Others were fine. Food at breakfast was just satisfactory. Will not stay there again and we have been there for probably a total of three weeks in the last year. no more

My husband arrived at the breakfast area at 9:15 AM. The breakfast food was put away. There was not any breakfast. When he asked the worker there, she said "We ran out of food and we were busy, so we closed." No one tried to correct this error in judgment for my husband. When I called the front desk at 9:24AM, I spoke to the attendant. I asked for the manager, but I was told he isn't here today. The attendant said the breakfast worker had ran out of food and was very busy today. I told the only reason we decided to stay at the Hawthorn Suites was because of the "full breakfast" and that we won't be staying here again and will recommend that none of our friends stay here either. She said, "OK." She made no comment or attempt to remedy this error. We have stayed here as a celebration of one year after my husband's triple bypass surgery. We have four children, and this is the first time we have been able to stay any where by ourselves for over 10 years. We plan on making this weekend visits a quarterly event. However, we will not be staying at this facility again.

Internet included. The included breakfast was excellent...we stayed three days and each day a different selection was offered: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, waffles, bagels, muffins, toast, cereal, juice, coffee, etc. They also use real plates and utensils instead of disposables.

Overall, this hotel helped make our vacation experience one we will always remember. The location was quiet (which we really wanted) but provided easy access by freeway and regional transit to everywhere we wanted to go. The deluxe breakfast buffet was excellent each day. Wednesday night's dinner was outstanding! A full dinner - simple menu but substantial and delicious. Our only complaint was that the cleanliness of the room left something to be desired. While sitting in the chair, for example, some of my change fell from my pocket. When I lifted the cushion to reclaim what had fallen, behold I discovered cold French fries and a variety of other old food items. Also stains on the sofa and chair made us wonder... Employees were friendly and helpful.

There is a full sized fridge and freezer, stove top, microwave, vanity, desk with computer, living area, bedroom area, large bathroom and coffee maker. We wanted a night away from our home and found the bed to be super comfortable. The room did take several hours to cool down to our liking, but we had left for dinner and by the time we got back it was fine. The breakfast is free and there are waffles, eggs, corn beef hash, danishes, cold cereal, juice, milk and coffee.

I'm going to grad school in Sacramento and commuting from LA on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for class. I've stayed at a property out by the airport and but for convenience to the airport, well, I decided to look elsewhere. Hawthorne has what I need (quiet [for study], fridge, microwave, etc) at a very fair price. Yeah, it is in Rancho Cordova, a Sacramento suburb, and outside of town, but so what? Why stay downtown? This property is clean, quiet, safe, with a couple of restaurants (both fast food & conventional) nearby. A great value!

Though the breakfast buffet wasn't a super big spread every day, the 4-5 items plus coffee/juice/breads was just perfect. The menu changed each day as well, so breakfast was different each day. Hotel is in a great, quiet location. Starbucks right across the street, several gas stations and fast food adjacent. Walking distance from Lake Natoma and 11 miles of bike/walking trails. My 2nd floor room happened to be above a noisy water heater. The front desk offered to move me, which I should have done, but I suffered 2 nights of noisy sleep. The room was decent, probably time for a remodel, but not bad. The bed was fine and other furniture not too comfy. The breakfast was pretty standard for lower end hotels- 1 or 2 "hot" items- eggs or biscuits/gravy nuked in the back room and standard cereal, bagels and pastries.

The overall stay was amazing. My wife and I were just passing through so we just stayed for one night, however, I could have easily stayed a week comfortably and relatively inexpensively. I noticed that a lot of other reviewers said that the customer service was not up to par and I would have to agree. The young woman at the desk seems very apathetic and at times makes you feel awkward for asking her a question. If she were a bit more bubbly, I would have rated 5 stars across the board. The breakfast was great, much more than at other hotels. We definitely got much more than what we paid for.
