"Nice place - but stay in the "newer" side!!"
We stayed 2 nights. The first, we were in the older, 3 story building. Our room was right above the fans and it was terribly noisy. Also the room was really dark because it was blocked by the taller section. The next morning, after very little sleep, we asked if there were any rooms available in the taller building and we were moved to the 6th floor. We enjoyed our stay at the Red Lion. The counter staff was efficient. Every employee I encountered had a ready smile. I would have liked to have known that there was a charge for the breakfast buffet. I also would have liked a free newspaper to read during breakfast. At the time we arrived at the hotel, their were no rooms available. My spouse and I were very disappointed in that we could not get a room to leave our luggage or relax for a moment. The receptionist told us that we would need to come back at noon to come and check in. We called before noon, to see if a room was available and unfortunately no rooms […] were available, she told us that we would need to wait another couple of hours. At around 2 o'clock in the afternoon we finally went into our room, the room was way different than what the picture on the website looks like. We thought we were going to get a balcony or at least a nice view. The channels on the television were ok, but did not have the channels that we both like, the room was very clean except for the next day, no one came and cleaned our room. Room service only knocked once on the door, but that was moments after we finally got our room. The staff was a bit uptight to my spouse and she did not felt very welcomed, it would have been helpful if they took it upon themselves to let us know that a room was available, rather than us calling and driving around with our luggage and wanting to rest from a six hour drive. Staff was professional. Hotel was okay for a night or two. Needs to be updated and need some details cleaned up. Shower always in shower mode, does not return to tub when water is shut off. The hotel was clean but the service of the front desk staff was horrible. When problems arose, staff was unwilling to resolve them. One front desk person in particular (Kate) was the worst. "A good overnight stay"
My husband and I were traveling through Boise to Eugene from SLC and needed a place to stay that was pet friendly. Pet Friendly may be a bit excessive to say, they are a pet tolerant hotel. When we arrived the "kid" behind the counter wasn't the easiest to deal with. We had questions the areas that we could take the dog to go to the bathroom and he […] couldn't answer any of them. When he asked for a government ID, my husband handed him his military ID card and the kid told my husband he needed a real ID instead. After that the rest of the stay was nice. We got to our room which was on the first floor and the room wasn't outdated and had comfortable beds. My husband didn't like the overabundance of pillows; he would have rather had fewer medium firm pillows than several soft pillows. There was a flat screen TV in the room that worked perfectly. We went to the restaurant in the hotel for dinner. The bar/restaurant had a huge TV that I was able to watch my game on and the bartender took very good care of us. He made great drinks, although my expectations weren't very high coming from Utah. The food was so-so nothing to write home about. I was disappointed that they didn't have a designated dog area that was fenced in, but they do have a grass island. The carpet in the hallway from our room to the pool area looked like it had some major water damage, other than that it was a decent hotel for the its age. Arriving at the hotel from the highway, it may seem like it's a little ways from downtown, but in actuality, it's a mere four-minute drive to the state Capitol and the shops and restaurants of downtown. Te only complaint I have is about the bad signal on the wifi and the difficulty for setting the temperature in the room. The thermostat was complicated, I thought I set it according to the directions but I woke up sweaty in a room almost 10 degrees hotter than what I set it for, but that was user error I suppose. The beds were really comfortable and […] the pool was really nice, but note that it is outdoors. We were on the third floor and it was really quiet up there. I think being on the third floor however might account for the bad wifi signal.
