"1-night family stay"
The room was spacious and clean. We had a King Suite. The pool was warm. The only complaint was breakfast. Everything tasted like plastic and the attendant was VERY SLOW and didn't keep things stocked. She needed help. Everyone ate with a spoon because she wouldn't get forks.

"Wonder Anniversary in Grand Rapids"
My husband and I came to Grand Rapids for our 2nd Anniversary and we had an amazing time! The Hotel was clean, staff was very friendly and the breakfast in the morning was lovely. The only thing that I didnt like was the elevator. It was quite shaky and pretty scary to ride so we took the stairs the majority of the time. Wasnt too bad as there are only 3 floors. :) Overall we had a wonderful time and would stay there again if we come to GR again.

"March Break Getaway"
We came to Grand Rapids back in November, and when choosing our hotel for March Break (Canadian March Break) we decided to come back. We picked this hotel as it was convenient to everything, and also had a wonderful pool. Lots of restaurants to choose from, and easy shopping choices. The breakfast was perfect, simple and easy....tasty too! You will enjoy your stay at this Holiday Inn....amazing staff, clean and convenient. All reno's are done, and they look beautiful!

"Great location, good service, and clean"
My only complaint would be the poor quality/condition of the bed mattress.....not very comfortable for a good nights sleep.

"A management that will extort just because it can!"
07/30/15 oaxacawoman Oaxaca
My sister in law reserved a block of rooms in back in January for family members attending a GR reunion in July . When she requested to add a third night, she was told the "whole reservation was changed", and my husband and I had to pay an additional $50 PER NIGHT because the hotel had raised rates due to the golf tournament in town. When we requested to at least only pay the original rate quoted for the first 2 nights, we were told we were out of luck, and that we had no choice as"every hotel room from here to Kalamazoo was booked". Needless to say, this doesn't make us feel like valued customers, and will certainly never consider staying here again. The room, breakfast, etc. was NOT a good value for the rate we had to pay. The in-room wi-fi advertised worked slowly or not at all.

"Good spot to stay in suburban Grand Rapids"
07/21/15 Gundi Kitchener
We spent two nights at this hotel on the start of our vacation. I would have liked to stay downtown, but due to bookings, that was not an option -- so this hotel was selected for the rates and the reviews. Frankly, it was a pleasant surprise. I'm an Ambassador Gold member, and stay at many properties for business and pleasure. This hotel is the best of the Holiday Inn Express brand. The property is fairly new and is located behind some commercial ventures. This makes it relatively quiet, while still being close to the interstate and only 10 minutes from downtown. We had a room facing south which looked towards the Grand Rapids skyline, making it a very pleasant space. The rooms come with refrigerators, nice bathrooms with lots of towels, all of the usual amenities, an easy chair, desk, etc. and plenty of lighting. The pillows offered are good and varied (my partner and I need different types). Housekeeping was excellent. Bed and bedding were very comfortable and air conditioning did the job well. The free breakfast is the usual for this style of property -- there are eggs, sausage, pancakes, yogurt, etc. Lacking in fresh fruit, but clean and varied enough for the price and purpose. The room is quite bright and looks into a green space so that you don't feel you are in the middle of a parking lot. In all, I would certainly stay here again and would advise the property to others.

"Wonderful weekend "
07/11/15 JuBillionare Cincinnati, Ohio
My husband and I stayed here over the 4th of July weekend. The rooms were really clean and they had a halfway decent breakfast bar. The staff were unintrusive, which I really like. Yet it was obvious they are working hard to make sure the guests have a great experience. It made for a wonderful weekend and will be back.

"Very nice hotel"

Visited the Holiday in express this past weekend. This hotel is very nice. The front staff was great. We were able to check in 2 hours early since we arrived in town early. Everything was clean and looked new. Very well kept property. We will stay here again next time we are in town visiting family.

We were in town for a one night visit. The location of this hotel was located in an area with plenty of shops and restaurants. It was a quick girls, sports visit, but would return again in the future. Staff was friendly and helpful. Nice, safe location. Thanks for the hospitality

"Quiet and relaxing"
06/27/15 Magicats Halton Hills, Canada
We were booked into the Holiday Inn Express Grand Rapids North overnight on a business trip. After a long drive from Toronto with a meeting in Detroit, we finally arrived. The hotel is situated near a mall so it is walking distance to some stores and restaurants. Check in was easy and the front desk staff very pleasant and helpful. The room was near the pool area in a secluded hallway. Standard room clean and well appointed. Although it was very quiet there was some noise from the breakfast area in the morning with chairs moving across the floor. As I had to get up early for a meeting it didn't bother me, but if you wanted to sleep in keep that in mind. The breakfast was the standard HIE fare with cereals, turkey sausages, biscuits and gravey, etc... The area was clean and inviting. Nice touch that the manager stopped by our table and asked how our stay was and seemed genuinely concerned to hear our thoughts. We did not experience any issues with our stay. If you need to stay in the north Grand Rapids area, I would recommend staying here.

"Travel Agent**Baseball Mom**Recommended"

I am a corporate travel agent who spends many weekends in hotels as part of my job and with family for traveling sports. The entire staff was friendly, accommodating and made sure the needs of their guests were satisfied, including personable front desk hosts, happy breakfast service ladies and the quick, friendly and efficient working housekeepers. Rooms were clean and spacious. The hotel common area was large and provided significant seating to accommdate many guests. The pool area was in an excellent location, off of an outdoor patio, and a viewing room for adults, without having to consume the chlorine and humidity often found in these pool areas. The fitness room was spacious and offered a variety of weights and machines. Location was great, with many dining options immediately available, along with shopping too. The breakfast offered a large variety of hot/cold entrees, including eggs, bacon, turkey sausage, oatmeal, biscuits, sausage gravy, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, pancakes and many beverage options. It opens at 6am on Sat/Sun which is important for any sporting teams who have very early games. I loved the layout of the rooms at the "below" ground level, near the courtyard and pool, very clever for families and big groups with kids, as it allows them easy access to outdoors and swimming, with minimal disruption to "all" hotel guests, minimizing the noise factor, which I clearly understand as a business traveler too. The beds are average and a bit on the firm side, but still better than most. There are a few hotels in this area and this one definitely holds its own!! Kudos to the entire staff and management team!!

Nice hotel with an excellent staff. Large family all stayed in hotel for a wedding. They allowed us to enjoy the restaurant area while we all caught up. Clean rooms with good breakfast service. Again, the staff was very accommodating.

"Staff was very attentive; room was clean; area convenient"

We just returned from a weekend getaway in Grand Rapids. We were in town for the Shrine Circus as guests of the Shrine. We had no problem getting checked into our room although when we originally called we mentioned we were coming with another family and wanted adjoining rooms or rooms next to each other. At the time we booked, we were told our rooms were on the same floor but they could not accommodate us being next to each other. When we checked in we realized that we were on the 2nd floor and the other family was on the 1st. The other family said that when they checked in a few hours before us they were originally given our room but when they inquired and were told our room was on the 1st floor they asked to move to the first floor and were accommodated. Not sure if that was just a miscommunication, but we ended up having to do a lot of walking and lugging things back and forth and up and down stairs. The hotel was sold out each night and there were several youth groups there. One group seemed to have difficulty managing the kids as the pool was packed with kids and no adults. The adults would peek through the pool windows at time but did not provide direct supervision. The kids were not the best behaved, and when we mentioned it to the desk, they indicated that they had spoken with the group. The second night was MUCH better as that group did not used the pool but they did run up and down the halls doing a scavenger hunt. I don't fault the hotel for this---they did their best trying to maintain order and do so in a professional way. The fault, in my opinion, fell to the adults in charge of the group. They appeared to be more interested in the St. Patrick's Day fun than managing their kids. Our room was clean, well appointed, and more than enough room for us and the other family when we wanted to get together for snacks or to socialize. Beds were comfy and even with the rowdiness of the group around us,the noise ceased at 11 each night. I commend staff for addressing the noise effectively. Breakfast was good and the attendant was on top of things and friendly. She had a great rapport with the guests and was very attentive. The food is typical breakfast fare but presented well. The pool area is small but adequate, especially when it isn't over crowded with unsupervised kids. We enjoyed the hot tub and our kids had a great time swimming. We had to call for towels several times and I picked up towels and put them in the hamper each time we were there just to tidy up. I don't believe that the pool area is purposely neglected as the hotel was packed and it was probably low on the priority list. It would have been nice, however, if they would have had someone check on the area throughout the day to take out used towels and bring in new ones. The hotel is convenient to both downtown and several chain restaurants. It is set back in a retail area so shopping for snacks and other things was easy. It is also convenient to the expressway and easy to find.

Nice hotel. New. Clean. Great staff. Walls are so thin I can literally hear every word the person in the next word is saying. Not just that Peanuts comics "mwah mwah mwah", I am talking every word. Clearly. It's a shame as it is really a nice hotel otherwise.
