"Decent hotel, Lousy valet"
Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 4, 2010
We stayed here for a wedding over the weekend. The rooms were clean and spacious. The beds were comfortable. The hotel lobby was under renovation, but we knew that before booking the hotel. Unfortunately, the hotel only has valet parking. In theory, valet parking is more convenient than self-parking, but not here. On numerous occasions we waited 15-20 minutes for someone to get our car. When we notified the front desk that no one was at the valet stand, they just shrugged and said to wait outside until the valet appeared. In 20 degree weather plus heavy winds, you don't want to be waiting outside for someone to get your car. If they can't make the valet system work efficiently, then they should open up the parking area for self-parking.

I stayed here with three girlfriends on Halloween, a Saturday night. The staff was very pleasant, even when we came tumbling out of the elevator in costume. The room was spacious and clean--the view wasn't great from the second floor, but we weren't really there for the view. I really liked the abundance of mirrors (one over the bathroom sink, a full-length one on the closet door, and a decorative one over the couch). We were just down the street from the MacArthur Center, the NorVa, and more. I highly recommend the hotel and will definitely stay there again.

Reviewed by Janie of Spotsylvania on Oct 14, 2009
The hotel and the room was very modern and updated. The room set up was well thought out, with a separate bathroom/closet area that included full length mirrored doors. The loby was inviting and beautiful. I ate the breakfast buffet at the restaraunt that had a rate more expensive than I'm use to, but in line with the area. The selection was good. I was very disappointed with the high cost of hotel parking, but the alternatives weren't good. The biggest problem was the construction going on around the hotel. While it's not the fault of the hotel, it's very confusing and inconvenient. This will be a better stay once it's done.

the hotel was okay. i have had better at other hotel companies. the hotel itself was fine but the room looked very old and wasnt very comforting, warm or attractive. i also had a problem with the fact that they charged $18 per day for parking. overall the quality of the room is what i had a problem with the most. the hotel and location itself were fine.

Sleepy but clean and comfortable hotel, close to the Nautica museum, with surrounding small center of a couple of pubs/restaurants. Beds not terribly hard but not fantastic either.

Employee cheer and personal service were very good. We used valet and room service. I was disappointed with the limited items on the room service menu. I had to get a new key twice because the key lock system didn't function, and I couldn't get into my room. Nice pool area with locker rooms, but whirlpool light fixture broken and hanging by the electrical cord. In general, nice hotel but not up to Courtyard by Marriott standards.

The staff was wonderful, especially in the dining room, and the room very clean. Definitely not for romance (bad lighting in public rooms and cold -tho energy conserving and that's good - light in the hotel room), but really fine for a couple of nights. I'm very sensitive to the way a room is laid out and this one felt "off" in a fen shui kind of way. But the bed was terrific, everything worked. It was quiet and the pillows were soft and giving - not that hard foam stuff. Overall, a very good experience.

Nice place for an overnight stay. The breakfast buffet wasn't up to par. They were understaffed and couldn't keep up with the demand. Another drawback was the valet parking. While we were waiting for our vehicle, we could hear the tires squealing as the valet was rounding the corners in our SUV. Other than that, the hotel is located close to everything you need.

This was our third year staying at Norfolk's Courtyard Marriot on Plume St. Our trips to Norfolk have been for our son's participatiion in the Virginia State Geography Bee Finals. As you can imagine there are a few jitters and everyone is a bit on edge. The ease of checking in that starts with prompt valet service, smooth check in at the desk and finally plopping on the oh-so-comfortable bed and relaxing while the kid hits the pool. Breakfasts are delicious and the staff is incredible; polite, warm and welcoming. We look forward to another stay.
