Location is easy to find. Bad neighborhood though. Definitely not a 3 star hotel. Room is quite dark. Suggestion: downgrade your expectation at least one star down for any hotel in Napoli, or Italy in general. Staff is nice.

it was ok, near the port but the neighborhood was filthy and looked a bit dangerous. No elevator, but the staff helped me with my luggage. very small room, I would stay there again, but I would rather look for a better one.

The area was so over run with prostitutes, even though we had already paid for the rooms, we decided to cut our losses and drive to Pompeii and found another place to stay. The neighborhood was horribly dirty, loud, and just felt unsafe.

The Hotel is clean but kind of old. The staff tries to help but a lot of what they told us was wrong. One lady didn't know where we would even get on a public bus. But they staff will help you book day trips which was good. The location was good because it was a two minute walk from the train station. Trust me you won't want to walk around Naples alone […] or at night.... and in some areas you won't want to walk around AT ALL!! So a little fact that no one told us (not even the tourist information desk in the train station) NOTHING is open in capri in the winter. We could have saved a whole day and a whole bunch of money if someone told us that. The hotel breakfast was ok... nothing special some fake nutella, toast and cereal. For the price the hotel is good. i was greatful it was close to the train station because I didn't want to walk around there. Read more

It's convenient to be located within walking distance to the main train & subway terminal in Naples. Rooms are OK but no WiFi in rooms, only in the hallways & breakfast room. Minimal choices at breakfast and no elevators hamper anyone with large luggage.

Hotel Ideal was ideal! It is visible from the train station and the staff was extremely nice. Basic breakfast is included and is more than a croissant and coffee:-) Highly recommend this hotel. The Hotel Ideal is located very near the train station in Naples which is so convenient. My single room was freshly painted and the bathroom newly renovated and clean. The front desk clerk gave me a map of Naples as soon as I arrived and enthusiastically directed me to the sights. All the staff members are very friendly, charming, and helpful. A tasty […] breakfast buffet is served in a special dining room. The bar features free Internet service and is a good place to meet other travelers. The downside? Unfortunately, the neighborhood around the train station is seedy and the bed in my room was small, but typical of budget hotels in Italy. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS HOTEL HAS 3 STARS! We are active travelers and have been in several hotels but never like this!!! DON'T STAY AT THIS HOTEL!! It's located in the grittier side of the town, expect to find street vendors in front of the hotel. The bedroom door was broken. We wouldn't recommend this hotel. We had TV and fridge in the room which did […] not work! The hotel has wi-fi, but only in the lobby, so if you plan to use the internet be ready to use it in the lobby with terrible accommodation. Wonderful. Very helpful staff. Clean room with daily maid services, private shower/toilet, T.V. with 5 channels, extra blankets. Located right by the train station but very quiet inside. Before I was even out of the main station I saw the sign for Hotel Ideal. No need to worry about a taxi to get there. It was a 2 minute walk. Location was perfect for train travel, communter train to go to Pompei, ferry to go to Capri was also walkable. I walked to EVERY major tourist sight and several outdoor markets right from the Hotel Ideal. My […] only disappointment was that my room was right next to the bar which made it a little noisy until closing time at 12:30 am. We just stayed one night before our flight and it was perfect for this being on the square with the bus to the airport and the train station. The room was quiet. It was also on the small side but perfectly adequate for our purposes.

Well you get what you pay for, this place was very cheap and it did show. The whole place is a little shabby and the breakfast was definitely hostel standard rather than hotel standard. I can't say I'll ever understand the stars system but three for this seems rather optimistic, I'd have said 1 or 2 at most since this is really only one step up from […] a hostel. On the other hand it is the same price as a hostel so I'd definitely recommend it. Initially the hotel was quite hard to find, partly due to the construction of the underground railway system on the doorstep, my inability to see the 20 ft sign above my head and the very tiny door numbers. A good tip, if you are asking locals whereabouts the hotel is, don't say "eye-deel", rather ask for "i-dee-aal" and you will pointed in the right […] direction right away. The various staff members I encountered were always very polite, friendly and mostly quite fluent in english. If, however, language was a barrier they were patient enough to try and understand what I was trying to say. The room was a little tight for space, but was adequate for my son and myself but the single power point was extremely annoying, meaning I had to unplug the TV to charge my phone/camera each night. The bathroom, containing shower, wash-basin, toilet and bidet was an acceptable size but the smell was disappointing. Although thankfully contained by closing the bathroom door it became apparent the probable source was the arrangement of the shower curtain overhanging, allowing the the bathroom, and a little of the bedroom area to become flooded if you showered for too long. I didn't try the bar but the breakfast buffet was very nice with as much coffee, orange juice, bread (toast), ham, cheese and various spreads supplied within the cost but croissants were available at additional charge (my nephew, staying at another hotel within the area, paid an additional $6 a head for the same thing). Friendly staff, excellent location. Easy to get to airport and Pompeii. Lots of good, cheap restaurants nearby. Smallish rooms but full of character. Breakfast buffet is continental with lovely warm, fresh croissants.

This hotel wa slocated just a few feet from the train station. There was also the most numerous amount of street pedlers i'd seen all trip. They didn't even flog new stuff, most of it looked as if they saved it from the dumpsters. Streets almost didn't feel safe to walk around. And i'm used to downtown eastside Vancouver. The whole city has been consumed […] by underground construction. new metro? i don't really know. The hotels sewer system was backed up, whole building stunk of feces. The stand-up shower didn't drain fast and always filled like a bath almost overflowing the entire bathroom. Actually it felt more like a closet. The room we had was small, not even enough room for two suitcases. And the maze of halways to get to our room, which was furthest from the breakfast/ internet room. After reading the several unfavorable reviews of Hotel Ideal and the Piazza Garibaldi, I was bracing for the worst. Yet, I was pleasantly surprised by both hotel and location. Firstly, the hotel did seem a little worn around the edges, but that added to its quirky, unpretentious charm. The staff was friendly and our [smallish] room was comfortable […] enough. Since we were leaving the next day for Pompeii, the proximity to the train station (it's next door) was perfect. The desk clerk even let us stash our packs after check out so that we could further explore the city unencumbered before leaving for Pompeii later that night. Breakfast was nothing special, but there was plenty of it: juice, coffee, toast, cheese, ham, and jelly to fill up on at no extra cost. Again, not high cuisine, but it did the trick. Regarding Piazza Garibaldi: yes, it's a vast and noisy construction site. Yes, the auto traffic is heavy and, to people from the U.S. / U.K., seemingly disorderly. Yes, there is some uncollected trash in places. Yes, there are some shifty-looking characters lurking about. These factors may dissuade travelers used to more upscale (or sterile) vacations. However, we experienced the above as part of the overall atmosphere of Naples: loud, in-your-face, multi-ethnic, achingly alive, and absolutely drenched in history. Don't miss this city -- the Spaccanapoli alone is worth the visit -- just use common sense and a modicum of caution, particularly in Piazza Garibaldi. Conclusion: Hotel Ideal is light years from the Ritz, but it is fine, user-friendly budget accommodation with a friendly staff. Perfect for a night or two for those on a shoestring eager to experience this amazing, electrifying city. Read more
