I loved our room. Small by today's standards but lovely ambience and clean. Disappointed the adjoining restaurant is now closed but the convenience of being on the square is nice. I would definitely stay again.

This place is wonderful! The folks at the front desk were so kind and helpful with getting us settled, directions, restaurant recommendations and just so welcoming. The room was small, but very comfortable and clean. AND you can't beat the location...parked the car and walked everywhere.

"Spring in Taos"
We stayed for only 1 night, but everything was lovely. We were especially impressed with the private showing of the DH Lawrence artwork, and the enthusiasm and knowledge of the Hotel staff person who acted as our guide. I wish we had gotten her name, she was awesome! Our room was lovely, everything there we needed, nicely redone bath. Very nice stay!

"Fast trip, nice visit."
This was a quick, last minute family vacation. Hotel was recommended by a friend for its central location. Location was indeed great. Rooms were clean and staff was friendly and helpful. La Fonda is a historic hotel so rooms are small and there are not many amenities, but if one is visiting Taos, your not there for the hotel room. Hotel price was fair, but not a bargain. Great visit.

"Very nice hotel w/ excellent location on plaza."
We arrived a little early but, not a problem. Frank was friendly and amazingly helpful with whatever we asked. The room was very adequate for the little time we spent there, beautiful view of plaza. Recommend corner room, overlooking plaza. Stay close to plaza, a little sketchy and not as nice the further away you get!! Only had a few days the two of us could get away together, so lots of down time and not to much wandering. Go see Brenda at the sunglass shop on the plaza if you need new shades, very knowledgeable and friendly. Gorge bridge is definitely worth a stop and Ojo Caliente is close, although don't stay in the old hotel(other accommodations available) . Very thin walls, doors that barely lock, smells a little funky and only 1/2 baths. If you're into micro-brews, OH-LAWD!!!!, GO TO MESA BREWING!!!! Excellent beers and one of the coolest beer houses we have been to. Stay a while and watch good live music and take in the patio and views. Eskes brewing closer to town also has a few good brews and friendly service. Will definitely return.

"Nice looking hotel but not worth the money."
I chose the La Fonda because it was right on the plaza and made it easier for me to get around with my disability and the price was one of the more reasonable ones for a nice hotel. The staff was great but the room left a lot to be desired. The 'king' bed was two twin mattresses side by side under a king size sheet and was hard as a rock. The room was extremely small with very little room to maneuver. The hotel did have a nice sitting area with a gas fireplace right outside our room. The restaurant on site was extremely expensive with very few choices of apps and entrees. We could have paid about half of what we did and stayed at Motel 8 and had a more comfortable stay. Next time we will stay somewhere else.

"Prime location but with minor inconveniences"
Step out the front hotel door and there you are in the Taos Plaza! The hotel location is excellent, the staff is super-friendly, and the decor is 100% old-style New Mexico. Room 208 was accommodating but here are things you should know: no automated room temperature control (only portable heater and ceiling fan), parking in rear hotel lot is extra, wi-fi does not extend to rooms, and wooden floors creak at each step.

"really nice, but..."
Three nights in king size, room was in front of the hotel on the plaza (nice). Seemed like a slow time, don't know why they placed other parties directly next to us when the sound seems to pads through the walls so easily. Clean room, a little small but goes with the historic building and ambience, just wish it had better insulated walls.

"Snowboarding weekend"
Weekend getaway for snowboarding. I arrived at around 6:30 pm and the night staff were very friendly and helpful. They made some good dinner suggestions. They also offered me a cup of coffee and a pastry, I declined as I was heading out for dinner. Next morning the lady working the front desk was not quite as friendly or helpful, but not rude. I asked for a coffee and a pastry and the lady said only the coffee was included. I asked for a bottle of water and she said no only the water bottles in the room were included. The hotel is located in the little plaza and walking distance from little shops and restaurants. It is a good 45 mins from the ski area. Overall hotel is clean, bending is comfortable and quiet.

"Great place to stay in Taos"
Rooms very clean and all amenities fine with an excellent location on the Taos main square. My only criticism is the room was a little small and their restaurant didn't open till 11am. Other than those minor issues, I'd certainly stay there again. The nearby Bent St Cafe and the Taos Inn both served as great food alternatives and the Moby Dickens bookstore is a treasure.

"Central and Atmospheric"
La Fonda de Taos is about as centrally located as it gets- right on the plaza. It has a real "old New Mexico" feel with pleasant sitting areas and nooks that couldn't be farther away from the experience of a chain. Those staying here have free access to a display of the infamous "forbidden paintings" of renowned early 20th century British author D.H. Lawrence. No breakfast, but a daily free coffee from the Starbucks off the lobby. One drawback: our front-facing room caught any noise from the plaza, including very early morning street cleaning. Only one two-bed room. $6 off-street parking fee.

The Hotel La Fonda was rated very high for places to stay in Taos, NM. I stayed only one night, but the room, bed, and location of the hotel make this a hotel that I would stay at again. Location is perfect - right on the plaza but this does make it a little awkward for checking in and getting your luggage in although the hotel does have parking behind the hotel. No breakfast facilities other than tea and coffee from local coffee shop. History and location would mean I would definitely recommend it. Remember to have a look at the paintings by DH Lawrence.

"Ride Stop"
This hotel was our second night spot on a motorcycle tour. It sits on the Taos plaza, which is in a very congested area. The hotel was amazing-very well appointed with significant art on the walls and a magnificent restaurant in the restaurant. Our room was impressively decorated with a gas fireplace-very romantic. The staff was incredible. When they understood we were on a large motorcycle, they actually went outside to try to find parking for us. They gave us extra time in the loading zone to allow a spot to open, which it did. I have never seen staff this customer oriented. It's a beautiful hotel with lots to offer and a staff that cares.

"On the plaza."
This is an older hotel so don't expect it to look like a new hotel. Over the years, rooms have become more spacious and there are more amenities. When you stay on the plaza in Taos, expect something that reflects the period and architecture of years gone by. It is a charming hotel with considerable history and a very attentive staff. The rooms and bathrooms are small by contemporary standards, but you don't go to Taos to sit in your hotel room all day. The restaurant is exceptional. Our meals were delicious and the wait staff is polished and attentive without hovering. If you think you need a modern hotel, this probably won't satisfy you, but if you want to be on the plaza, in the middle of Taos and within walking distance of shops and restaurants, you will enjoy this hotel.

"A very good option in central Taos"
We chose Hotel La Fonda because it is right on the central plaza of Taos, and lots of restaurants and shops are within walking distance. Room was comfortable but very small. Bed was comfortable and warm. Did like the "pay for 3 nights and 4th is free" deal! Did like the WiFi internet in the room. Did like the "free coffee, tea, hot cocoa" deal with the café in the lobby. Did not like that they charge their guests to use their own parking lot. All in all, we would stay there again.
