Expecting a lot better experience for the price we paid. If you get a penthouse suite maybe better but our king suite was awlful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location, friendly staff"
Hotel was very comfy, right on Plaza, shops. Staff was very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. Would recommend to friends!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Awesome hotel on The Plaza"
We had room 203, right off lobby. It was a great mini suite with gas fireplace in bedroom. There is also a nice, common sitting room with fireplace over lobby. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. We wished we stayed for another night!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
For the quality and size of room it was greatly overpriced. Could not believe that there was an additional $6.00 parking fee. (thankfully this fee was waived when we complained about it.) decor seemed tired and worn--we fixed loose toilet seat ourselves.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Aging like fine wine"
This building is well over 100 years old but is in good shape. Good staff and service. Parking a little challenge but not horrible. Rooms on small side and not always luggage cart accessible but clean and well cared for.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Central and Atmospheric"
La Fonda de Taos is about as centrally located as it gets- right on the plaza. It has a real "old New Mexico" feel with pleasant sitting areas and nooks that couldn't be farther away from the experience of a chain. Those staying here have free access to a display of the infamous "forbidden paintings" of renowned early 20th century British author D.H. […] Lawrence. No breakfast, but a daily free coffee from the Starbucks off the lobby. One drawback: our front-facing room caught any noise from the plaza, including very early morning street cleaning. Only one two-bed room. $6 off-street parking fee. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The Hotel La Fonda was rated very high for places to stay in Taos, NM. I stayed only one night, but the room, bed, and location of the hotel make this a hotel that I would stay at again. The staff was very friendly and the location made the hotel an awesome choice if you don't want to have to drive much in Taos proper. Good night's stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
Location is perfect - right on the plaza but this does make it a little awkward for checking in and getting your luggage in although the hotel does have parking behind the hotel. No breakfast facilities other than tea and coffee from local coffee shop. History and location would mean I would definitely recommend it. Remember to have a look at the paintings […] by DH Lawrence. "historic inn with charm"
Reception was extremely helpful with our stay. The room was a little small but expected for such a historic place. The internet did not work but free WiFi is available outside the hotel on the plaza. Just to be in the center of Taos is very special and this hotel has the best location!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good location but...."
Art: Taos was okay but cannot compete with Santa Fe. Hotel just seemed to lack conveniences. Step up to a bathroom is never a good idea. Bathroom lacks space to open up cosmetic bags. A/C & Heating controls not controlled by the individual rooms.Genuine Expedia guest review
This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in, not too big, but all of the amenities. The room was larger than normal and the public areas are impressive. The location, right on the plaza, is perfect.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel was our second night spot on a motorcycle tour. It sits on the Taos plaza, which is in a very congested area. The hotel was amazing-very well appointed with significant art on the walls and a magnificent restaurant in the restaurant. Our room was impressively decorated with a gas fireplace-very romantic. The staff was incredible. When they […] understood we were on a large motorcycle, they actually went outside to try to find parking for us. They gave us extra time in the loading zone to allow a spot to open, which it did. I have never seen staff this customer oriented. It's a beautiful hotel with lots to offer and a staff that cares. "Right on the Plaza!"
Wonderful stay in a cozy hotel! Wonderful, helpful staff. Complimentary Starbucks coffee! Smaller rooms. Fantastic place to stay if you don't need a lot of room!Genuine Expedia guest review

"HISTORICAL, FRIENDLY, PLACE TO STAY IN TAOS"
We had a great time. The rooms are small, but comfy and well-appointed. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking was close and easy to use and there was no extra cost. If you want to be in the right spots in Taos, this is the place to be.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"On the plaza."
This is an older hotel so don't expect it to look like a new hotel. Over the years, rooms have become more spacious and there are more amenities. When you stay on the plaza in Taos, expect something that reflects the period and architecture of years gone by. It is a charming hotel with considerable history and a very attentive staff. The rooms and bathrooms […] are small by contemporary standards, but you don't go to Taos to sit in your hotel room all day. The restaurant is exceptional. Our meals were delicious and the wait staff is polished and attentive without hovering. If you think you need a modern hotel, this probably won't satisfy you, but if you want to be on the plaza, in the middle of Taos and within walking distance of shops and restaurants, you will enjoy this hotel. Loved it, great place to stay for a weekend get-away!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very cute hotel, conveniently located in the plaza in Taos. A variety of shops and restaurants all within a few blocks. Delightful room; we had a King suite with a comfortable fold-out queen sofa bed and lovely king in a separate room. There was a mini fridge and nice bathroom with toiletries. Would definitely recommend.Genuine Expedia guest review
Much overrated and overpriced. Poor service. Very small rooms, cramped & crowded with very few electric outlets. Wifi and television not working properly and service desk phone calls were never answered. Irresponsible personnel working guest services. Location on the plaza was about the only good part of it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A very good option in central Taos"
We chose Hotel La Fonda because it is right on the central plaza of Taos, and lots of restaurants and shops are within walking distance. Room was comfortable but very small. Bed was comfortable and warm. Did like the "pay for 3 nights and 4th is free" deal! Did like the WiFi internet in the room. Did like the "free coffee, tea, hot cocoa" deal with […] the café in the lobby. Did not like that they charge their guests to use their own parking lot. All in all, we would stay there again. Put in wrong room at first, but was corrected quickly. No coffee available in room, no coffee last morning. No microwave - this is the 20th century! Half an hour after checking in, received noise complaint at 5pm - RIDICULOUS!! Especially since it was another room blaring music from clock radio Rooms ARE NOT worth the moneyGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Old hotel and what goes with it, smaller rooms, no counter space in bathroom. Has been updated somewhat. Was disappointed in menu in the restaurant in the hotel. Staff was very accommodating and location right on Taos plaza. Room was cold, but eventually warmed up with space heater and fireplace. People on plaza can get loud at night.Genuine Expedia guest review
This hotel was very comfortable, great location on the plaza, and the staff was outstanding! Our only suggestion would be to have a coffee maker/coffee in the room for that early morning coffee requirement rather than having to go downstairs to the adjoining coffee shop (complimentary coffee).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old Hotel Downtown"
Air cond. turned off for the winter, it was so hot we could not stay in the room. We were able to get a fan, did not help much. Parking not good behind hotel dirt lot. No free breakfast, No coffee in room, no microwave, too exoensive, about 70.00 per night over most other hotels.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Must I have a title ??"
Hotel was great. After reading some of the reviews prior to booking, I'll add ... yes, you have to pay to park around the corner. But there is loading and unloading in the white zone in front of the hotel. The front desk clerk even carried our bags upt to our room while we parked in back and walked back around. He also waived the parking fee since the […] room was already paid for. BONUS ! Also, yes, you can hear street noise from the hotel. But, your picking a hotel right smack in the center of the square, what do you expect ??? We enjoyed our stay as quick as it may have been but would toally book again. Oh, and go to Ricky's for breakfast ... D-Lish! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Staff was wonderful. Overall hotel is quite nice. The room was clean as was the bathroom and linen. The only negative was the size of the room compared to what we paid. Maybe it was 11x11 (not including the bathroom)? It fit a queen bed , 2 small end tables, a small table/desk and a hutch (which contained a tv) with minimal room to fit between the furniture. […] Tolerable for a one night stay. Likely not for a longer duration. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"The Heart of Taos"
If you want a hotel in the center of the old town and right on the plaza, you can't get better than this. Although lovely, at $200 a night, I think it was over priced for old town Taos. Staying in the area gives you walking access to restaurants, art galleries, craft shows and shops. If that is what you want, this is a perfect hotel. The old Spanish […] and adobe style with a gas fireplace in the room was charming. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Convenient location for shopping the plaza, loved the history of the building. The parking lot was very convenient. King bed was not as comfortable as we had hoped, but the sofa bed was very comfortable (according to the one who slept on it). Staff was very nice and helpful. Some of the furniture was ready to be upgraded or replaced. Lampshades had […] holes in them and were torn. Overall cleanliness of the hotel was excellent. All in all we really enjoyed our visit, but would probably not stay again because of the price. We wanted to do it at least once and we are not disappointed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quintessential Taos experience"
La Fonda is an old hotel in all the right ways. No swimming pool or exercise room, just a gracious staff and fascinating decor. The staff is interested in their history and wonderfully warm. The rooms are smallish but reek the feel of Taos, the history of Pueblos, Spain, Mexico and the old and new West. ( without the smell) right on the Plaza. Very clean for an older hotel. Staff very friendly and responsive. Queen beds felt like sleeping on the floor. I'd stay again but hope they replace the mattresses soon.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is the only hotel right on the plaza, so it is close to shops, restaurants and other sights. The staff was friendly and helpful. It is historic and beautiful. Our room was small and pretty ordinary but I would definitely go back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Although Hotel La Fonda de Taos is right in the center of town, it was delightful, quiet. Intimate, cozy and delightful staff. Wonderful view of the Plaza from our bedroom window. Easy walking distance to all restaurants, shops and galleries. Lovely room, clean. The hotel restaurant was closed for renovations during our stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Pleasantly surprised with Hotel La Fonda"
We stayed at Hotel La Fonda the last 3 nites of our trip through southern Colorado and Santa Fe/Taos area. The hotel staff was very friendly and at first I thought the rooms were somewhat dated. The room we chose was very clean and comforting, it had all the comforts of home. I will recommend this hotel and we definitely stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Perfect New Mexico hospitality. If you folks have never been, then you are missing out. This little spot was probably one of the cradles of western civilization in the U.S. with the nearby Taos Pueblo. 1000 years of habitation(thats only recorded history) awaits about 4 miles down the road. The Kit Carson House is across the square, and visit is "a […] MUST SEE" as it explains how this humble mountain man helped provide a pathway to the pacific and westward expansion for the United States. Lots of shops, and a way to provide my girlfriend an oppourtunity for her first Pub Crawl. All within walking distance. The Hotel staff is/are very freindly and helpful. "Extremely unprofessional management staff"
In all fairness, I cannot speak to the ammenities of this hotel because we did not stay there due to weather. However, I can speak to the unprofessionalism of this management staff. My husband and I planned a stay here over NYE; however, the weather had other plans. Due to the ice and snow that hit west Texas, NM, and Kansas, several highways were closed, […] including ones we needed to get to Taos. I phoned to cancel our stay and ask for my hefty deposit back and agreed to pay a cancellation fee. The first person I spoke with told me that I had to cancel within 21 days and that, as an exception, my money would only be returned if someone booked our room on the same nights. I was not very happy about this, but she assured me that last minute reservations would probably be made. So, I phoned the hotel and, without asking my name, the clerk told me that my room had not been booked. But, she also told me that there had been some last minute bookings. So, how did she know that one of those last minute bookings wasn't in our room? This seemed suspicious to me, so I asked to speak to a manager. She told me that the manager was not in, but that I could leave a message for her to return my call. I waited for two days and no one returned my call. I phoned back and the same woman told me that she would pass on the message that I had phoned again. Another two days went by and I had still not heard from the manager. So, I called again and asked to speak with the owner. I was told that he was not in, but that my message would be delivered to him. I have now been waiting another two days and have not received a call back. It is not even so much the money as the principle at this point. I understand that as a small business you have to make money, but it shouldn't be in this way. I truly wish that I could control the weather, but unfortunately I cannot. We will not stay here in the future. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
