What a cool place. We got a 2 bedroom apartment. There was milk in the frig, cereal and a loaf of bread in the kitchen. It was clean. It is a good location but there are two strip clubs next store. There was no noise pouring out of them. They were just there.

Very clean, roomy, and comfortable, and the staff are amazing! It is only about 3 blocks to grass market, a little farther to the Castle. Taxis are cheap and the front desk can have one to you within a minute or two at the most. A great place to stay.

We arrived at 9:00 to find our name on the door and the room ready which was greatly appreciated since we had been traveling all night without sleep. Further the room was stocked with enough food for a decent breakfast. The "room" is actually a small apartment with all of the modern appliances you would expect of one, including dish washer, cloths washer […] and dryer. There was a free internet connection in the room and in case you forgot a computer, there was one in the hall. The staff is terrific, they helped with all sorts of questions and provided everything we asked for. There is a good grocery store around the corner. The only down sides were, a bit noisy at night though closing the windows silenced that. It was a 15 minute walk to the Edinburgh Castle. In short, a great place to stay for anyone, especially if you like kitchen and laundry in a large modern and clean apartment. If we are ever back in Edinburgh, we will stay here. Read more

This hotel is pleasing if you get a good rate. We had a problem with the hot water... and it was literally that, the hot water. Our first day and a half was 'hell' as there was only hot water in our shower. The next day the manager went up to our room and adjusted the internal mechanism in our shower head to allow more cold water in the mix (very odd.) […] Other than this 'burning' detail, the hotel is comfortable and well situated. I must warn you that it's location is withing a few yards from 3 'lap dance' establishments; but then it's also within a few yards from the Grassmarket area, right below the castle. There are plenty of nice restaurants within the area. Be aware that there is not a restaurant within the hotel; but you have a full kitchen to bring stuff from the store, which is a 30 second walk from the place. Read more

We had a great stay here. Charlie was extremely welcoming and helpful. The apartment was spacious: a good-sized kitchen, living room with two couches and a television, two bathrooms (one with a shower stall, one with a tub/shower) and two bedrooms--one with twin beds where our two children slept, and one with a double/queen. The kitchen had been stocked […] with some breakfast food items, and there were plenty of fresh towels. Free WI-FI worked well. Location was great too--Edinburgh is pretty walkable in general but the Knight Residence is just a short walk to the Grassmarket, and from there just a bit farther to the Royal Mile, etc. There is a grocery nearby as well. We didn't really use the kitchen for cooking but it was well-stocked with the basics and we had breakfast in the apartment each morning. There was a dishwasher as well. Only two downsides: 1) The washing machine did not work properly. This was disappointing as we were in Edinburgh for the second half of our UK trip and had accumulated enough dirty laundry so that it would have been nice to do some wash. It was a combined washer/dryer unit which seemed to wash the clothes fine, but then they stayed damp no matter how long we left it running. We ended up having to give a load of damp clothes to the housekeeper just to get them dry. 2) The shower stall was TINY, and the bathroom it was in was pretty cramped overall. Everything was spotless and worked properly, etc, but be prepared for a tight space! Read more

Just returned from a 6 day stay at the Knight Residence Aparthotel in Edinburgh, Scotland. We loved our apartment. It was a 5 minute walk to everything in the old town of Edinburgh. We were out early in the morning and late at night and never felt unsafe. The folks running the hotel could not have been more accomodating. They helped us book 2 great […] tours of the highlands (rabbies -- I highly recommend it). They set us up with extra bedding when we had friends come in to visit for 2 days as well as parking. This hotel is a jewel in Edinburgh if you want to get away from hotel rooms. It's a couple blocks from the Grasshopper area of the old part of the city, with a Sainsbury Local just around the corner. A newer building, it's well appointed. It was nice to get a break from traditional hotel rooms with a 2 bedroom condo. The was one of the best places I've stayed anywhere. The accommodation was a small apartment with a full kitchen, living area, and we had 2 bedrooms, and 2 bath. The price was very reasonable. The location was just a couple of blocks from the Royal Mile and Grassmarket. If anything they added to the ambience. The neighborhood is actually very ritzy. It was very safe to walk around in, day or night. The staff at the Knight Residence were extremely nice and helpful. The concierge greeted us by name when we arrived. They had a great breakfast basket full of cereals, etc. There was milk in the fridge and bread in the breadbox. Our name was even on the door! This is the PERFECT place to stay in Edinburgh--within easy walking distance to Old Town and most important sites. The apartment is modern, clean, and comfortable with a flat screen tv in every bedroom and the livingroom. Everything you could possibly need is provided including heated mirrors and towel bars. The only exception is face cloths which can […] be purchased in the basement machine--2 for a pound. A grocery store is just around the corner, but you will have a basket of breakfast items included so you do not need to shop right away. The washer/dryer will clean small loads but is not very efficient for drying them. Don't plan on doing all of your laundry.You will need to hang things to dry. There is also free wireless and a selection of DVD's/CD's on hand. The people who work there are helpful and friendly--listen to their restaurant recommendations--especially Two Thin Laddies and the Italian one with award-winning ice cream! Do NOT be put off by the "lap dancing" and "strip" places you pass on the way to the grocery store. Not once did we two single women receive any unwanted attention when we walked past them nightly. There are no really offensive images that would negatively affect children--just signs. I was a bit leary of others' claims that it was a safe area until I stayed there for almost two weeks. Take a side trip to the Highlands. We used the company close to the entrance to the castle on the right and were not disappointed. We also took a train to York. Read more
