Great service and location! The beach and the views were fabulous! Also, the included breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts I have experienced.The rooms themselves are a little outdated (with the exception of the great bathrooms).

Very close to old town to see the sights, but far enough away (1/4 mile) that you can escape the hordes of tourists. Right next to a beautiful beach, which is somewhat unnecessary considering the water side sun deck at the hotel. Infinity pool and saunas are top notch and well maintained, very luxurious.

This hotel was absolutely fantastic! It was minutes to old town, although the hotel was full, it never seemed full, and very quiet. The breakfast was superb, the staff was excellent, and so accomodating. The beds and the room were ultra comfortable, the view of the sea and old town was absolutely breathtaking. The only complaint I had was that when sitting on the porch/deck, you could hear everyone talking, and they could hear you, as well. We had an elderly couple next to us that continuously asked us to be quiet, I believe they went to bed very early!! The rates were great for the amenities that you received. The spa was wonderful, the infinity pool amazing. We took the bus to the port and the other side of old town, it was crowded and the hotels did not have as great a view, I am so glad that we stayed where we did, the location could not be beat!! There is even a clean, self-service laundromat close by, which is unheard of in Europe. This hotel is a must! Read more

We recently visited Croatia for the first time and took a chance on where we were going to stay. When we first got to the hotel, we found that we didn't get the room that we booked. We had booked a deluxe sea view w/balcony. We thought we were going to get a room with a double bed and two twins as we brought along our son. What we got was a king sized […] bed, but no place for our son! The room was smaller than described. We went to the front desk and they quickly took care of this situation. They put us in a larger room and gave our son a cot. We are attaching a picture of the solution. The mini bar fridge did not work. There wasn't any clock in our room. No ice bucket, you have to call room service. The indoor pool and hot tubs were superior to any other hotel we have stayed at. The breakfast buffet was excellent. We had the nicest waiter you could ask for. The hotel staff was friendly. The hotel was pretty, modern and very clean. The hotel was in a great spot. We can't wait to go back and we would definitely stay at this hotel again. Read more

Hotels are made up of staff and buildings. In this case the staff is great and the location and views are great. But management is not maintaining the property well. In the room (611) the phone and toilet were broken. A couch had tears in the material, The lamp shades had material that was unraveling. The only reason I didn't give the comfort a 5 is that the hotel does allow smoking on the balconies of the rooms. When you neighbor goes outside to have a cigarette, you end up breathing second hand smoke if you're on your balcony or have your sliding doors open to enjoy the lovely view. Pampered ourselves for our last night in Croatia at the Excelsior after a week on a 36' chartered sailboat. The luxury was just what the doctor ordered. The staff were charming. Dinner at the beach restaurant was overpriced though, and the lamb was tough as a shoe sole.

Wonderful location, just a few minutes walk to the gates of the old city makes this hotel very convienent for late dinner and enjoying the city nightlife without worrying about transport home. I think the Excelsior is the best hotel in Dubrovnik. It's location is outstanding with superb views of the ocean and the walled city from the terrace deck. Swimming in clear and clean water is also available off their deck. It's an easy walk to the walled city. The staff is a bit stuffy at times but very responsive. Overall outstanding

Fantastic hotel! We thought we'd be using the beach next door a bit, but the deck at the hotel was great with bar service and the ability to jump into the sea to cool off. Location was ideal, breakfast spread was great. All in all, the best combination of class and location.

Weird location with nothing around it, very strange place for breakfast that looked like a bus terminal with naked pictures everywhere. The whole experience seemed like a ghost town, and the staff ranged from unhelpful to downright rude.

This hotel basically had everything you would ever want for the perfect stay in Dubrovnik. We opted for the superior sea view, and I do not regret it ONE BIT. It offers one of the best views of the old city, and looks out to the ocean. It is absolutely breathtaking. As for the hotel room itself, all amenities were great...shower, tub, 2 sinks, slippers […] (but no robes), and large roomy closets. The only complaint I have the room, really, is that the "king" bed is made up of two twin beds pushed together, which made it really uncomfortable...and we were probably better off with a queen/double bed. However, the bed is my only complaint of the room. The hotel itself is amazing. Breakfast was fulfilling, with a simply amazing view of the ocean. The staff is courteous, respectful, and knowledgable. We needed a restaurant recommendation, and he pointed us to one of the best restaurants I have been to. The hotel is also a very short walk to the Old City, maybe 10 minutes, or less...it's about 400 meters away, all along the coast. Absolutely perfect. The only catch is that it costs about 240 croatian currencies to get from the airport... Will definitely stay here again when we return. We were debating between the Hilton and Exelsior, and after seeing the location of the Hilton (view of the Old City, right next to it), we absolutely made the right choice. Read more

It needs to be disclosed that when you have more than two people staying in a room, the extras get either a roll away cot or a sofa bed. Neither of which was comfortable. The hotel is beautiful and the location was great. The maid service sometimes was good but ours seem to not understand that there were three adults staying in the suite. They only […] left two large towels every day. I find it hard to believe that a 5 star hotel could not find a real bed for the third person. The pool area was great but they called a platform with chairs and service as a beach. I think a beach is where sand is and you can walk into the water. The platform had ladders to climb into the sea. They were very helpful to arrange days trips and did change our room. A classic room however does not include a view of the sea. The Excelsior's location is great -- just a 5-minute walk from the Old City of Dubrovnik. Breakfast is OK (meats and cheeses, bread, yoghurt, indifferent pastries), nothing special. Wifi is free. But the hotel has no atmosphere whatsoever and is dominated by the modern & generic hotel part of the building. I could not tell that any part of it was built […] in 1913 -- don't expect old-world charm. Also beware: the a/c system is not up to the task during the summer. My room (July 2011) was uncomfortably warm, and I was assured that it was the same everywhere in the hotel: so either they lied to me (and could have given me a cooler room), or indeed the rooms were all a little on the warm side. The room interior was comparable to a Holiday Inn, though the bathroom was quite nice. The room was very expensive for the quality. Read more

Hotel location is perfect; within easy walking distance to city walls. Hotel personnel were extremely helpful and pleasant. One of the few hotels which had access to a beach. Breakfast buffet had an excellent selection of hot and cold items, fruit and baked goods. Beautiful view from restaurant patio area of city and sea.
