The staff was not very hospitable or friendly. The hotel itself is located two blocks west of where most of the city action begins. However, that walk takes you through a "less than desirable" area. The rooms are tiny. Our king size bed took up about 3/4 of the room. Despite having 11 floors, there are few rooms on each floor. Also, only one elevator. The ice and vending machines are located in the lobby area only. On the positive side, the room was very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. The housekeeping staff was efficient.

The hotel was very clean and the staff was pleasant. The room was on the small side, but it was more than large enough to accommodate our needs (sleeping, showering, getting ready for an event). The neighborhood wasn't the most scenic and didn't offer much to do, but it was not horrible as some of the other reviews had suggested. The continental breakfast offered little variety compared to other hotels, however, it was free, it included coffee, and it was enough to sustain us. Overall, the hotel was good for what we needed and we were happy with our experience.

I read many of the reviews for this hotel but I needed somewhere close to the Javits Convention Center. I wasn't disappointed. A 1 minute walk to the Center. 10 minute walk to all of the cool sites in NYC. If you complain about the size of the room, then your missing everything about NYC. The rooms are very clean, albeit small. But then, if you go to NYC to stay in your room, then just stay home. I'd reccommend this hotel.

I just returned from spending Labor Day weekend there. This was a last-minute trip to see the US Open with my teenage son. I saw the Best Western logo and figured it couldn’t be too bad. There is minimal and sometimes absent night security. Anyone could get into the hotel hallways with ease. And this isn’t a safe part of town at night. It is 1 – 2 blocks from the Port Authority bus terminal and there were lots of down-and-out and/or homeless and/or doped up people in the area. [We walked by it 2 – 3 times/ day to get to Times Square or the subway.] There is construction noise. The night we arrived, there was a 2 inch deep and 4 – 5 feet long mud pile at the front curb which unsuspecting passengers stepped into when exiting the cab. You can’t get a cab at the front door, which is mid-block, and have to walk to 10th Ave to hail one. There is one small elevator. On the second day, we finally gave up on it arriving and walked down 8 flights. We passed two separate couples who also had given up but were checking out and were dragging down their luggage! On the first night our TV didn’t work – no big deal but when I called about it I was told I must be operating it wrong. The night clerk finally left his station [!!] and came to the 8th floor and agreed it didn’t work. He told me I would have to switch rooms. It was late and we were unpacked so we just asked him to have it replaced the next day which we were assured they would. Of course, that didn’t happen. When I inquired at the front desk they acted like I was from Mars. As a guess, I commented to the clerk that they’d known about this broken TV for several weeks. He said: “Oh no, just a week or two.” On the third night the AC unit started making loud noise when it kicked on. I didn’t bother complaining. Bring quality earplugs if you stay at this place. The rooms are only big enough to hold the beds and you have to squeeze between the bed and furniture -- again no big deal but if you were elderly or impaired, you would

I've stayed at Best Westerns before, and they were pretty decent, so I decided to give this one a try. It was also about $20 cheaper than the hotels I usually stay at, and it was just a block from the Javitz center, which is where I needed to be. I am very sorry I stayed at this hotel. First of all, the front desk was cluttered -- they had their office door open and it was full of junk and didn't look very nice. The elevator up to the room was the slowest ever. The hallways were really, really hot and probably not air conditioned. I got a single bed room and it was the tiniest little room I have ever stayed in, maybe 10' by 10'. The outer curtain didn't close all the way so light streamed into my room all night. My TV didn't work... kept shutting off every 10 minutes. When I called down to the desk to tell them, they told me that no one could look at it until the next day. The worst part was, I saw a cockroach in the bathroom. Also, the drain in the tub wouldn't open so I had to pull the whole thing out so that the water would drain. Across the street was a 24 hour auto repair shop so you can hear machinery throughout the night from cabs driving in and out. I know this isn't their fault but it certainly didn't add anything to my experience. I will never stay at this hotel again. Definitely not worth the money. I travel to NY about 8 or 9 times a year for business, and this is the worst experience yet. The only good part is that it was really close to the Javitz center. But it wasn't close to anything else, like restaurants or shops.

Looked like my 8 year old made the bed. The bed was 2 singles shoved together to make one large bed - weird. A little farther west than I'd have liked. Times square was a good 15 min hike. Nearby scenery was not so nice - taxi repair garage right in front of the place. Not bad if you just need a cheap place to crash. I wouldn't recommend it for a family though.

1st, let me say that i didn't visit NYC to sit in a hotel room, so my requirements may differ from yours. I needed a room with easy access to the city & that is just what i received. This hotel is located on 38th Ave. between 10th & 11th, about 15 minutes from Times Square & 25 minutes from Grand Central. (walking) There are taxis available right outside the front door, or 1/2 block in either direction. There are numerous restaurants, stores & bars within a few blocks. I found the hotel staff to be friendly and accommodating. They were able to offer a late check-out (1 pm) and will store your bags until your room is available. I stayed in room 802, which is near the train side of the building adjacent to the stairwell. This room does not share a common wall with another room, so i believe it may be one of the quieter units. There is construction going on next door, but i wasn't bothered by it, the train or the taxi maintenance shop. They are just ambient sounds of the city. The rooms are small, but the only thing i needed was a place to sleep & take a shower. I had no problems with the water pressure or temperature. The posts about not being able to open the armoire door all the way are true. There is about 2 feet of space between the foot of the bed & the armoire, with 1 foot between the bed and far wall. The bedspread was very old & looked very dirty. (1970's like) There aren't many TV channels, but again, that wasn't important. I found this hotel to be conveniently located for people who don't mind walking moderate distances. (up to 2 miles) The price was very affordable compared to other hotels in the area. I would not recommend this hotel as a romantic getaway, but for traveling alone for the purpose of sight seeing & partying, this is a great investment.

Out the door, turn left, and not even a block away is the Javits Center, which is what brought me to the hotel to begin with. So, I'll call it a great location! The hotel is clean and appears to be well managed. I found my room to be a bit snugger than I'd hoped, but it definitely suited what I needed from a hotel and I realize spaces in NYC (including hotel rooms) tend to be more confined than in many other locations. If I were to point at any specific aspect regarding the hotel in which I felt it might be lacking, it would be the continental breakfast. Two days in a row I found it to be both uninspired and uninspiring. But breakfast wasn't a deciding factor in my selection of this hotel. I actually don't recall noting the inclusion of breakfast as being included in the price for the room when reviewing the description of the hotel...so I'll call it more an unexpected perk. For most any person who has the need for easy access to the Javits Center, I'd very definitely recommend this hotel. It more than suited my needs at a highly competitive price.

For those whose sole concern is proximity to the Javits Convention Center-- well, that's literally within shouting distance. The main negative about this hotel, for me, was its immediate surroundings-- "the Three D's": Dark, Desolate and kinda Dodgy. But the hotel itself was just fine. Small room, but quiet, and with attractive furnishings; comfy bed with one of those Tempur-pedic mattresses. Nice bathroom as well. Complimentary newspaper and continental breakfast, another money-saver. The breakfast area was buzzing with tourists from many countries. Closest bus stop (10th ave, headed uptown) is about 90 seconds walk away. If they'd squeeze a minifridge & microwave into the room, I'd be delerious. Rates are among the best in Manhattan to begin with, and a hotels.com sale made this cheaper than the jail-cell-like accomodations at the Y!
