Originally I was given a room with a view of a wall. Very disappointing. I asked for another and they readily gave me a great one that overlooked the square. The carpets were stained and the roof was leaking into a bucket in my hallway. It's a nice building that needs some TLC. The staff were very nice. The staff at The Yorkshire Hotel, could not have been more helpful. When both lifts broke down, they could not have been more apologetic. They went out of their way to help the guests. Obvious signs of refurbishment, but still some shabby carpets and lop-sided toilet seats. Wouldn't like to eat in the Brasserie as it is the main access between the front of the hotel and the bar. The Hotel gives a grand appearance from the outside and the lobby/reception area is modern and welcoming. However, as we entered onto the second floor, it was as though we had stepped into another era. The decor in the corridors (and our room) was dark and dingy although everything was spotlessly clean. It could really do with a revamp and complete […] refurbishment. The room itself was not as warm as we would have liked and I had to have a warm bath before going to sleep. We had a bar meal downstairs: the service and food were excellent...but it was very noisy. When we returned to the Hotel after our night out, we were able to grab a nightcap from the bar and sat in the lobby which was very pleasant - the bar was just emptying of late-night revellers and STILL very loud! Friendly, helpful staff. It was obviously once a Gand hotel. They are probably in the process of restoring it. The decor was good but the furniture has seen better days. I didn't feel I wanted to use the facilities as there are so many good places within a short walk. I would use it for 1 night again but only due to location and cost.

booked single room last wenesday, arrived afternoon. Second visit, room was like a "prison cell", tiny, tired looking but clean. Asked receptionist if there were any other single rooms, she upgraded me to a lovely double room.... no comparison. Thank you very much for my comfy stay Louise Nixon

Room was not great for the cost, chipped wardrobe, woodwork & bath. I'm normally not fussy about these things but for the price & Harrogate I expected more. We couldn't park at the hotel so needed to use The White Hart which was close by but negated us staying in The Yorkshire, might as well have stayed there. I always wanted to stay in this hotel as i travel to Harrogate twice a year and it looked so nice from the outside. Big disapointment it really needs a major overhaul our room had cracks, wallpaper hanging off the wall i could go on and on.

Looks deceive. The majestic look of grandeur from the outside are quickly let down once you exit the lift. A hotel in desperate need of TLC. Threadbare carpets, groaning floor boards, walls which shed plaster and paint and rooms which are small and basic to say the least. On a positive, you can park your car close by, for a quick get away.

Parking is bad at this hotel. You may not be able to park here as they have limited spaces and that means a cost on top of your stay. A dated hotel with date interiors. Great location to town centre and great service from staff.

Spacious, modern room. Great location. A number of bars and restaurants are out of the back of the hotel. You dont have far to walk to get to the pubs. The shops and bettys tea rooms can be seen from the hotel. The cocktails in the hotel bar are fab and highly recommended. A bargain when they are 2 for 1.

We booked this hotel for just one night,only a few days before we were due to arrive. The location is superb being opposite Bettys and less than 5 minutes walk from the railway station.I would think that the hotel was built before the motor car was invented and as a result there is limited parking but we were lucky enough to find a vacant place. My friend and I shared a twin room for a weekend getaway on room only basis. Our first impression was 'wow, this seems much better than the reviews'. We had a short wait to check in and the receptionist was very pleasant and helpful, the reception and bar areas were very tidy and of a very good standard. But here are the negatives - upstairs, the corridor […] carpets were in a shocking stained condition. Our room was large and comfortable but not very warm. The bathroom was clean but freezing cold with no heaters at all. The tea/coffee sachets hadn't been filled. We were disturbed till the early hours by the restuarant/bar on the street outside our window. On the positive - we took advantage of the free car parking throughout our stay, it was cheaper than the Premier inn which we had initially hoped to stay at, and it is within walking distance of all the town centre's bars and restaurants. Hotel was in a good location but that was it for the positives. The woman on reception was apparently the manager, she was rude and I couldn't believe my ears when I questioned something and was met with a response of "I'm not a mind reader"! The rooms were tired with paint flaking off the walls, the shower leaked, the headboard was burnt where the […] light had been on it, the rooms were untidy with hairs and dust everywhere. The bed was uncomfortable and creaked every time you moved, the breakfast was just ok. Furniture was broken in the lobby, inparticular a glass side table, when we pointed this out to the maintance man his response was "yeah I know we normally just stick some paper in it but guests are always pulling it out"! This is my second stay in this hotel and it has been a lovely stay both times. Staff are pleasant and approachable and will do anything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The rooms are lovely, well decorated with TV, bath and kettle etc. The hotel could not be situated closer the the centre of Harrogate, the location is perfect.

We stayed at this hotel whilst in Harrogate for a Friends wedding. It was very nice and comfortable. There were a couple of things that it could do to improve. Bigger drinking glasses in the room. These were tiny. Also breakfast was rather pricey. That aside, we had a nice stay.

Sadly the window did not close and it was overlooking both bettys tearooms, and a vast area of road which they decided to renew overnight! Otherwise nice, central location, parking was right outside and no problem at all at 5pm!!

Great location but a dreadfully dull and depressing stay. Two nights in a dark brown tiny single room with tired old furniture and decor. Backing onto the inner courtyard, the noise of a large extractor fan never stops.The lift is jolty and sounds like it will kill you. Carpets in the corriodors are heavily water-stained.
