"Fun alternative to traditional hotels"
I've stayed here two previous times within the past several years. Rooms vary a lot with condition. This particular case, the room (2 doubles) were very comfortable. Cabinets/furniture was very worn, with knobs coming off some of the cabinet doors. I like the little kitchen in the rooms with table and chairs. Very old appliances. No breakfast is included […] or offered. Hot tea/coffee is offered. Fun roof top "living room" areas to hang out, but again, everything is very worn out. Great location on the beach, and nice little town to walk around. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"It's All Location"
My wife and I stayed here on March 10, 2013 as a nice midway stop on our auto trip. Avila Beach is a great beach and the town is a fun place to spend a few days. The Inn is located right across from the beach and has a great location for people watching and enjoying ocean views. However, it is an older property that was in the midst of "getting a facelift"--which […] is needed. Rooms were clean and spacious enough--but well worn. Nonetheless, the roof-top sun deck was a great spot to enjoy the views and the short walk to restaurants made it worth the price for us (on sale due to work in progress). "The roof deck is lovely."
This is an older and very modest accommodation in an area which is increasingly up-scale. When the neighborhood was rebuilt the Inn at Avila Beach remain the same. The hammocks on the roof deck, however, are a little piece of paradise with an unparalleled view of the Bay. And the charm of this little Beach Town cannot be overstated. Joe Mammas cafe, […] two doors down has extraordinary coffee of a grade that you might find in an upscale cafe in Berkeley or Portland (they buy the beans from boutique roasters in SF and LA). Staff at the Inn are friendly, personable, and want you to enjoy your stay. Their knowledge of the area is extensive. The hotel is adorable in its way. This said, the walls are thin, and the plumbing noisy. Not for everyone. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Surprising Little Gem"
Great place right on the beach. No need for a car once you're here. Walk to shops, restaurants, wine tasting. Hotel staff is wonderful. Roof top lounging area has a great ocean view. Everyone in town was extremely friendly. We'll be back again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ok Hotel but better for the same money"
The hotel is directly across from Avilla beach, which is one of it's best features. It has an awesome sun deck for all those who stay at the hotel. However, the rooms were old, out-dated and wanting of help. They were clean, and it felt like my old appartment in Newport Beach from the 80's and 90's. Staff was friendly. The area is Very Nice and Quiet […] and all the shop owners and staff were extremely friendly and helpfull. The hotel was conducting some upgrades, but it appeared to only be painting the doors, and replacing walkway corridor carpet. The interior rooms (the courtyard) have a motel feel to them and all face inward with no exterior windows facing the ocean or outside. The interior has rooms over garages, so it almost feels like an apartment building. Overall, what your paying for is locality. Not bad, but not worth the regular rate. I stayed here for a discount rate and that was pushing it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"perfect location in Avila Beach"
We arrived early, but the clerk said we could go ahead and check in because the rooms were ready. Also, we were given a free upgrade to ocean front rooms because they were available. Everyone was very accommodating during our stay!! We would definitely choose the Inn at Avila Beach again.....Genuine Hotels.com guest review

We stumbled into town for just one night and found an opening for this place. "Funky little hotel..."
The room we got was more funny than convenient, but very nice all together. We had a king bed room with Jacuzzi and fireplace. the decoration was supposed to be a 'morocan' theme but i'm not sure the decorator knew a thing about morocco... still it was cute. The one missing thing was breakfast, there should be an included continental. We paid an extra […] 25$ to get a breakfast delivered to the room that was quite nice. The access to the room on the 3rd floor is not convenient, especially with luggage, and the hotel staff didn't offer to help carry. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Mexican decor that was beautiful. Spa in room plus a daybed to sit in and look out over the ocean. Great deck facing the ocean with a gas grill. Next to shopping and great restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
On the plus side, the rate is far below most other hotels in the area and this hotel is right on the beach. Our first room was disappointing but we were given a better room on the third night for no extra charge. There are some very nice rooms that face the beach and in other spots around the hotel but there are also a few less than appealing rooms. […] Also, they have a fantastic sun deck with very nice seating areas that include sofa's, large stuffed pillows, tv's and barbecues. The negative aspects of the hotel revolve around the deferred maintenance of the building itself. It has a south of the border motif, no pool but it is one block from the coffee shops and restaurants on the main square. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We enjoyed our stay tremendously. It is located close enough to the ocean to hear the waves and walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. The staff are very friendly and helpful. "Inn at Avila Beach"
This is an older hotel overlooking the Avila and the pier running out to the ocean. IThe Hotel has been kept up nicely and has may extra features such as a nice kitchenette with refrig and microwave. The hotel has a full Sun Deck on the fouth floor.. This was quite a bonus, as the view was spectacular. This Sun deck is fully furnished with furniture, […] tv, hammocks, Gas BBQ, etc. One drawback may be that there appeared to not be an elevator. The stairs were a good workwout as we stayed on the third floor and visited the Sun Deck daily. The hotel was a very good value for the area. We will be going back again and again, as we really enjoyed our stay. The personnel were very friendly and gave good advice on the resturants and other nearby activities. "Volle 5 Sterne!!!"
"Escape to Heaven"

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The staff and accommodations were above reproach. This is an excellent way to re-energize for the "Real" world. We spent our Anniversary in an ocean front suite that overlooked the beautiful Pacific Ocean. We left our sliders open so we could sleep to the beautiful sounds of the relaxing waves. The amenities were nothing we have ever experienced. They greeted us with a bottle of wine and escorted us to their library which consisted of books, VHS tapes, DVD's, and several board games. Then we were taken to the common area which consisted of complementary bottled water, fruit flavored water, warm baked chocolate chip cookies, microwaveable popcorn, hot chocolate, coffee and tea. At 8 pm they bring out 3 different types of homemade pies! The part we enjoyed and found interesting was the stack of journal by the bed that previous guests had shared about their experiences. They were very entertaining. The staff and owner really go out of their way to make you feel right at home. I read how previous guests don't like to talk about this hotel, in fear that they will not get a reservation. It's a great secret. I'm so glad we stayed here. We will definitely be coming back again!
"High Quality stay in a one of a kind location; bringing modern and home comfort to a perfect medium."
My Wife and I stayed in the Jungle stormed Retreat room for our second anniversary and ended up calling the it "home" after a few hours of being there. Yup, just like that, forgot where we were half of the time but the ocean waves kindly reminded us. There's fresh baked cookies and pies in the main hotel kitchen for everyone to enjoy daily, big plus. The room felt like a vacation in itself. When your steps away from one of the most beautiful beach towns in CA there's really nothing more to say. Anyway, we had an unforgettable experience and couldn't thank the Inn at Avila more for their part in it. Brian and Lavina Valdes
"Home away from home"

The Inn at Avila Beach is our second home. We have stayed there approximately 10 times in the last 7 years, and we have nothing but amazing things to say about it. We are planning to stay there in August and can't wait for the opportunity! I have hesitated to say anything about this hotel for many years, as I don't want people to know about it. But, I have to come clean and admit that it is a very special place. It is located right on the beach in a sleepy little town that allows a person to walk the beach and find there own special place in the world. The property has an amazing rooftop, equipped with day beds, tvs, refrigerators and the sound waves crashing. This is a perfect way to spend an evening. A bottle of wine, a movie and the ocean sounds to lull you into a coma of California bliss. The rooms have personality. We have requested the same room for the past few years, as it has a hot tub and a cozy, but comfortable view. I won't tell you the room number, as I don't want it to be occupied when I rent it. The staff is low key and accommodating, but not pushy. The Avila grocery store down the street has the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had and I'm from the midwest. I still order wine from Alapay Cellars, which is also a close walk from the Inn. If you decide to go to the Inn, please don't tell your friends. It is really the best kept secret in Central Coast, California. I'm happy to drone on about Avila, if you'd like to contact me.
"Amazing location, very friendly staff"

Avila Beach is a small beach town that was very quiet when we arrived in November. The hotel is wonderful - close enough to the ocean that the crashing surf can keep you awake at night. Delicious fresh-made cookies available all day and fabulous pies at nigh with coffee and tea. We stayed three nights and I wish it had been longer. We will be back.
"Enjoyed our stay."

Can't decide what I liked best. The staff treated us like friends. The room was comfortable and our no smoking room didn't smell like cigarettes. I didn't want to leave the sun deck overlooking the beach in the evening, but who can resist fresh pie and cookies! On-site parking a bonus.
"Priceless ocean front view"
If your looking for a room that sits on the ocean, this is the place. We booked the Malibu Pacifica Suite, it's well worth the price. We opened the door to a view of nothing but ocean, waves, and a ocean breeze. I have to mention the 80" TV screen, of course that's what my husband noticed. The room is heavenly with a wall of floor to ceiling window, the balcony is fantastic, and the shower is wonderful. This hotel is under construction, but we only noticed the construction going on when we arrived,we never heard any noise coming from the work. I booked this hotel because it sits up away from the crowds. We're at the beach enjoying our balcony without the crowds.I would definitely spend the extra money and get a ocean facing suite,as all of the suites have been remodeled. A must do while staying there is to take a bottle of wine to the roof top oasis. The roof is a paradise all in itself, with couches, large cushioned chairs, barbecue pits, and of course nothing but Oceanview. I will definitely be staying at this hotel again in the near future. I must mention the staff is wonderful.
"Very pleasant surprise."

We have stayed in Avila many times at some of the more "corporate"-type places, and decided this time to give something else a try. We are very glad that we did, as the Inn is a great place. Eclectic and a little Bohemian, which is by no means a drawback--indeed, it is a big plus. With the Inn we got a feel for a true seaside inn, not some modernized, over-marketed new building with fake ambiance. The Inn has and exudes a true coastal history, and our room was spotless and awesome. My wife and I seek out little hidden treasures like the Inn, and do not like the feel of the big chain-type hotels/motels. The building is not new, but then again, a new building cannot have the character of a great old classic like the Inn. Updating is in progress (and no, we didn't mind the noise--we realize it has to be done sometime), and once all the rooms are done it will be even better. The staff and service was above and beyond anything we've had anywhere else in town, and the fresh cookies, pie and ice cream they offer to guests are simply outstanding. We will be back--in fact, have already booked our next stay. As a side note, the restaurant next door (Ocean Grill), is likewise terrific.
"Like Staying With Friends"
Although it was our first time staying at the Inn at Avila Beach, we were treated like we had known one another for years: called by name by all of the staff, treated to home baked cookies and pie later on in the evening, shown where the dishes and other items are and to help ourselves...lovely. The view can't be beat. We had an ocean view king. Slept with the door open to hear the waves through the night. The room was spacious, clean and had many little touches that made the visit special. The eclectic roof deck was wonderful. We are planning to go back and stay for a few days and do nothing but hang out on that roof deck and walk the beach. Note: the hotel is older so it lacks some of the more modern amenities you might see in a new hotel and looks a bit dated, but it makes up for that with character and the care taken with the upkeep of the place.
"Our favorite place"
11/06/14 Steve P
Listening to the waves at night . . . priceless. Get one of the rooms along the ocean front and you will not regret the experience. The colors in the sky during sunset are breathtaking. Then wake to the gentle sound of the surf. This is truly a California experience. There is no place better. The owner and staff are very accommodating. Enjoy the complimentary pie/ice creme in the evening or a cup of hot chocolate to take back to your room. We usually sit outside and watch the seals swimming in the ocean while enjoying a glass of wine. Our favorite time of the year is October . . . crowds are minimal and we always enjoy a trip to the Avila Barn for the most delicious pumpkin ice creme imaginable. Avila Beach is a California Jewel . . . and The Inn at Avila Beach is an experience you will always come back to. Do not miss this place!
"Just like staying at a friend's house!"

The best thing about Inn at Avila Beach is their hospitality. My husband and I stayed there for 3 nights last week and right away we felt at home. We arrived in the early evening according to our reservation, walked in and Ian handed us the number of keys we wanted and said he'd like to show us around. Everything is honor system -- movie library and beach equipment. Delicious pie/ice cream was offered in the "central gathering room" every evening - along with choc chip cookies. Coffee/tea/bottled watered are always available too. It created a nice way to visit with other guests or to watch the World Series! We had a little trouble with the cable tv remote and Ian came right up to solve the problem. Yes, there are stairs to climb, but help was immediately offered if we needed it with our bags. Edward was also very gracious as were all the young ladies. There was not even 1 bad attitude in the place. I had some wifi problem on my Tablet, but a PC is available for guests in the front reception area. There was no little problem that wasn't completely overshadowed with the hospitality of this Inn. We also enjoyed a AAA discount which was nice. The location is fabulous too.
