"Funky little hotel..."
The room we got was more funny than convenient, but very nice all together. We had a king bed room with Jacuzzi and fireplace. the decoration was supposed to be a 'morocan' theme but i'm not sure the decorator knew a thing about morocco... still it was cute. The one missing thing was breakfast, there should be an included continental. We paid an extra […] 25$ to get a breakfast delivered to the room that was quite nice. The access to the room on the 3rd floor is not convenient, especially with luggage, and the hotel staff didn't offer to help carry. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Mexican decor that was beautiful. Spa in room plus a daybed to sit in and look out over the ocean. Great deck facing the ocean with a gas grill. Next to shopping and great restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
On the plus side, the rate is far below most other hotels in the area and this hotel is right on the beach. Our first room was disappointing but we were given a better room on the third night for no extra charge. There are some very nice rooms that face the beach and in other spots around the hotel but there are also a few less than appealing rooms. […] Also, they have a fantastic sun deck with very nice seating areas that include sofa's, large stuffed pillows, tv's and barbecues. The negative aspects of the hotel revolve around the deferred maintenance of the building itself. It has a south of the border motif, no pool but it is one block from the coffee shops and restaurants on the main square. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"The Inn at Avila is terrific"
We enjoyed our stay tremendously. It is located close enough to the ocean to hear the waves and walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was on the 3rd floor which was great to take advantage of a wonderful roof top deck with splendid views and hammocks!! The only "challenge" is the hotel has […] no elevators. "Inn at Avila Beach"
This is an older hotel overlooking the Avila and the pier running out to the ocean. IThe Hotel has been kept up nicely and has may extra features such as a nice kitchenette with refrig and microwave. The hotel has a full Sun Deck on the fouth floor.. This was quite a bonus, as the view was spectacular. This Sun deck is fully furnished with furniture, […] tv, hammocks, Gas BBQ, etc. One drawback may be that there appeared to not be an elevator. The stairs were a good workwout as we stayed on the third floor and visited the Sun Deck daily. The hotel was a very good value for the area. We will be going back again and again, as we really enjoyed our stay. The personnel were very friendly and gave good advice on the resturants and other nearby activities. "Relaxing at Avila Beach"
The staff are genteel and concerned. The lovliness of the setting...and the crashing waves of the ocean right across the street was a wonderful addition. There were many homey touches, such as courtesy botanicals, and an extensive movie selection.Genuine Expedia guest review

Excellent location, friendly staff, older property with deferred maintenance.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a "no frills" room, but it was spacious. The hotel itself was fabulous! We loved their warm and carefree hospitality. The rooftop patio is awesome, the location cannot be beat and the lovely downstairs lobby with a large common room for guests to enjoy is great. It was so refreshing to stay somewhere where the staff just wanted you to feel at […] home, and we did. We will absolutely be back! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Inn At Avila Beach- Perfect location"
Enjoyed our stay right on the beach. Convenience of several coffe shops/bakery/candy and restaurants. Very clean beach and play area for families. Also a general store to buy most anything you might need. The Inn at Avila Beach is an older hotel, yet our room was quite comfortable. We did miss not having a continental breakfast. They have a roof top […] deck which is great. You can bar-b-que, enjoy the hammocks, relax on lounge chairs and just enjoy the view. Free movies and popcorn to have during your stay. "Great Location...not so great room"
You can not beat the location of this hotel but I was not impressed with my room. I think I got one of the non-remodeled rooms, from what I understand some are and some are not. Tight quarters everything out of date. A mini kitchen was great but with no supplies no cups, soap, plates, pots...pretty bare. "Inn at Avila Beach"
We were fairly satisfied with our stay, however the temperature in the room was a significantly warm. The use of the portable fan was insificient and at other hotels that we have stayed, usually provide their guest with items such as hand soap, body wash, shampoo etc. The only item we were missing was hand/body lotion.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not For Me!!"
our room was NOTHING like the website pictures. Ecletic ambiance that i am not into. cold terra cotta tile flooring with exoticly painted room. our room was on the third floor where the roof leaked and left melon sized blisters on the ceiling dripping water on the flloor. water pipes were extremely noisy, and paper thin walls allowed noise to penetrate. […] parking was in dark tight car ports. the external walk way to our room were sloped more than normal. I heard hammering and other noises so apparently the other third floor rooms had leaks also. though the staff was friendly, this place was not exactly what "I" would recommend to others. Especially when there are other places to choose from. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not posh, perfect for laid back beach vacationers"
This place is beautiful. I'm sitting in a chair by the window right now listening to the surf crashing against Avila Beach, literally a stone's throw away from the front of the Inn. If you are looking for a luxurious stay at a five diamond resort and room service, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a quaint little inn, close to […] the beach, with a number of nice little amenities, for a decent price, then you should give this place a try. 1) Construction: The walkways on the outside of the rooms, especially the ones around the courtyard rooms, look and feel as though they could collapse at any moment. Seriously, I don't want to jump and test it for fear of tumbling three stories as part of a collapse. I'm sure it is safe. It feels a little more sturdy when you get to the portion of the walkways that lead to the oceanfront rooms. This could be, and probably is, just my deep seeded paranoia playing with me. The stairs alongside the building also seem to be tilting to the side. 2) Rooms: The rooms are a little dated, and I didn't find the bed to be all that comfortable, but they have a little fridge, a mini stove that looks like it was once part of a play set (this is not a knock on the stove. My family thought it was cute), a fan (I couldn't figure out how to make the AC work, but you don't really need it this close to the beach). My wife really liked the tile work in the kitchen. 3) Amenities: This is where the Inn really scores most of its points. They have free rental of beach toys, including: boogie boards, sand toys, chairs, etc... They also have an extensive library of VHS and DVD movies ranging from Disney movies, to The Exorcist, to the Whoopi Goldberg classic "Sister Act" (3 copies). They have a nice set up of coffee or tea in the morning, and a lounge area with a TV to relax and enjoy breakfast. The greatest perk is the Sun Deck. Up on the 4th floor, they have a collection of outdoor daybeds, chairs, and hammocks where you can just sit t Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Inn at Avila Beach in Avila Beach CA"
The Inn was almost exactly as the reviews I read. Older and paper thin walls, but very roomy and the deck on top was phenomenal, such a treat. For the central coast it was reasonably priced and staff was great. What I did not know is the Inn will be remodeled soon and the lobby offers very nice beach chairs and boogie boards at no cost. There is no […] breakfast but as with every place in town all is within walking distance. Would stay again Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We just returned from 3 nights here; funky (in a great way) and homey. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in was painted gold/copper with lots of very cool touches. The beds were comfortable; water bottles always available (at no charge) but the sun deck was by far, the BEST! This was our first time at Avila, a small quaint town. We didn't get a room with a balcony which overlooked the beach and initially I thought I would not get the benefit of the hotel's proximity to the beach. WRONG! the sun deck (open until 11 pm) provided the beach and the sound of the waves. We will definitely return and were thinking it would be a great place to spend time with our sons and their families.
"Fine for some, but not for all"
09/14/14 Embucado Los Angeles, California
First I must say that view is absolutely perfect, the staff very friendly and helpful, and the perks (coffee, cookies, water, back sitting room, etc. ) are really fine. For the majority of travelers, the very good reviews are justified. The problem for older visitors might be the lack of elevators, narrow stairs, particularly if you're on the third floor. Difficult to communicate, except up and down stairs, i.e. for wake up calls, questions, etc. because the rooms have no telephones! This isn't a problem if it were indicated somewhere on their website or in reviews. We just didn't expect to find any four or five star location without phones, at least to communicate with the front desk. I felt it only fair to rate it 'very good' because it certainly is not 'average', but the above cautions are necessary.
"A good price for a unique hotel"
09/02/14 Judybookdoc Santa Cruz, California
As soon as I walked into the Inn at Avila Beach, I was struck by how different it is. This is no run-of-the-mill hotels. The decor is different, with real attempts at colorful touches. There is a welcoming area in a separate back room that has day long chilled water bottles, hot cookies before dinner hour and coffee, tea, microwave popcorn and hot chocolate available all day. Then we get to the rooms: ask for the newly remodeled rooms [perhaps they all are, by now]. The ocean noise is immediate, just outside your sliding glass door. On the top floor, there are hammocks, cushions, couches and full barbeques. Really fun place to feel right at the beach though it is across the street [thus escaping the mess of sand]. The staff has always been extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful.
First of all anyone who says this place isn't what they wanted I'm sorry but I probably wouldn't want to know them. I loved it! I've been in every type of hotel and bed and breakfast you can think of and after staying here on our last hotel stay of this vacations 8 nights each at a different hotel....I've never slept better. Rating the Inn from staff, cleanliness, design and decor, peace n quiet, location, comfort, the Inn gets a 10 all around. To me there's nothing better than seeing creative over beige and boring any day of the week, taking ideas home with me. Felt like home, well better than home. Thank you for the last minute reservation Ian and for a great room and fantastic stay! Lovvvvvvvvvved it! Heck yes we'll be back!!!! :)
"Perfect Laid Back Hotel Close to Beach"
09/01/14 DoraJoby Plymouth, England, United Kingdom
This is a great laid back place with friendly helpful staff. Don't bother taking any beach gear as they have just about everything you need available to borrow for as often and as long as you want. Great complimentary cookies and pie available to help yourself to. Only (very) small criticism is that our room (306), whilst having a great view of the beach and being spotlessly clean needed a bit of an update with the furnishings as they looked a bit tired.

Awesome place for getting away from it all. Although our room was dated, the hotel's location is great for peace and quiet. The roof deck overlooking the ocean has amazing views. The staff was very friendly. The highlight was every night at 8:00PM fresh pies are served in the common area. Dee-li-cious!
"Pay extra for a renovated room-it's worth it!"
08/14/14 Julie L Westminster, California
My kids and I stayed in one of the renovated rooms (212) with a jacuzzi tub and a cool shower. Very nice, spacious room. I've stayed at this place several times. The original rooms show a great deal of wear and tear, including broken knobs on cabinets/drawers, etc. Try to go off season to get better prices, but we love the uniqueness of the Inn at Avila Beach. They have a DVD/VHS video library that you can borrow movies from, microwave popcorn and bottled water for free in the room, and this last time we stayed-they now have chocolate cookies available in their kitchen area next to the office all day, PLUS guests are welcome to a piece of pie at 8:00 PM. We tried a berry peach pie, and it was delicious! They also gave us a coupon for an hour bike rental for 2 bikes (which we didn't use, but we appreciated the offer). The very friendly staff were accommodating and genuinely seemed to want their guests to have an enjoyable stay. The rooftop deck is very unique with a spectacular ocean view and comfy furniture (couches, chairs and hammocks). The only negative is that sound carries in this old building, plus the parking is right below the rooms, so voices of people arriving past midnight who were loudly talking and pulling their luggage woke us up. Other than that, thank you for a relaxing stay!
"Such a great staff"
My wife and I have been here several times and love staying here. The amenities are fantastic and we take advantage of it!! Mostly this time though I just wanted to say how great the staff is here. Everyone is extremely nice and pleasant! Edward will go out of his way for anything you need. Thanks for a great time...can't wait to come back. I miss it already.
"Nice quiet beach front"
Stayed there for one night in of the modern rooms in Aug. No AC but there is fan and I don't think it's getting that hot in that area anyway. Very nice and friendly staff. They have a DVD collection that you can borrow from. Fresh backed pie at evening :) very nice restaurants close by.
"Reviews are incomplete. "
07/20/14 Robbonomo Santa Barbara, California
My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel primarily because we saw so many exceptional reviews for it. What reviewers said is mostly true but much is left out. The staff was excellent. The pie and cookies are a nice touch. The location is directly across from the ocean. The place has been under construction for some time. There are no elevators which is fine for most people but the stairs are slanted and crooked. Incredible so. The bathroom was not big enough for two people to be in and very rough. The tub had been painted several times and should be removed. We had a "suite". There are other locations that charge the same price but have far nicer facilities.
