Love this place kinda funky not touristy at all. We will be back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
hotel is very very old, poor maintenance. no elevator.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Mexican decor that was beautiful. Spa in room plus a daybed to sit in and look out over the ocean. Great deck facing the ocean with a gas grill. Next to shopping and great restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
On the plus side, the rate is far below most other hotels in the area and this hotel is right on the beach. Our first room was disappointing but we were given a better room on the third night for no extra charge. There are some very nice rooms that face the beach and in other spots around the hotel but there are also a few less than appealing rooms. […] Also, they have a fantastic sun deck with very nice seating areas that include sofa's, large stuffed pillows, tv's and barbecues. The negative aspects of the hotel revolve around the deferred maintenance of the building itself. It has a south of the border motif, no pool but it is one block from the coffee shops and restaurants on the main square. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"The Inn at Avila is terrific"
We enjoyed our stay tremendously. It is located close enough to the ocean to hear the waves and walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was on the 3rd floor which was great to take advantage of a wonderful roof top deck with splendid views and hammocks!! The only "challenge" is the hotel has […] no elevators. "Inn at Avila Beach"
This is an older hotel overlooking the Avila and the pier running out to the ocean. IThe Hotel has been kept up nicely and has may extra features such as a nice kitchenette with refrig and microwave. The hotel has a full Sun Deck on the fouth floor.. This was quite a bonus, as the view was spectacular. This Sun deck is fully furnished with furniture, […] tv, hammocks, Gas BBQ, etc. One drawback may be that there appeared to not be an elevator. The stairs were a good workwout as we stayed on the third floor and visited the Sun Deck daily. The hotel was a very good value for the area. We will be going back again and again, as we really enjoyed our stay. The personnel were very friendly and gave good advice on the resturants and other nearby activities. "Relaxing at Avila Beach"
The staff are genteel and concerned. The lovliness of the setting...and the crashing waves of the ocean right across the street was a wonderful addition. There were many homey touches, such as courtesy botanicals, and an extensive movie selection.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Loved the location"
RIGHT at the beach-what a jewel!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Excellent location, friendly staff, older property with deferred maintenance.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a "no frills" room, but it was spacious. The hotel itself was fabulous! We loved their warm and carefree hospitality. The rooftop patio is awesome, the location cannot be beat and the lovely downstairs lobby with a large common room for guests to enjoy is great. It was so refreshing to stay somewhere where the staff just wanted you to feel at […] home, and we did. We will absolutely be back! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Inn At Avila Beach- Perfect location"
Enjoyed our stay right on the beach. Convenience of several coffe shops/bakery/candy and restaurants. Very clean beach and play area for families. Also a general store to buy most anything you might need. The Inn at Avila Beach is an older hotel, yet our room was quite comfortable. We did miss not having a continental breakfast. They have a roof top […] deck which is great. You can bar-b-que, enjoy the hammocks, relax on lounge chairs and just enjoy the view. Free movies and popcorn to have during your stay. Great for families. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

An old hotel with peeling wallpaper and mismatched furnishings. However, it was very clean and quiet and the staff were polite and helpful. Good value, would go there again.Genuine Expedia guest review

Fun rustic place to lay back and relax, close to fresh seafood, wine and much more, didn't miss not having breakfast as we could BBQ on Patio Roof.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Location...not so great room"
You can not beat the location of this hotel but I was not impressed with my room. I think I got one of the non-remodeled rooms, from what I understand some are and some are not. Tight quarters everything out of date. A mini kitchen was great but with no supplies no cups, soap, plates, pots...pretty bare. Also this hotel only has stairs so a little tough […] luggy luggage and kids around. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Inn at Avila Beach"
We were fairly satisfied with our stay, however the temperature in the room was a significantly warm. The use of the portable fan was insificient and at other hotels that we have stayed, usually provide their guest with items such as hand soap, body wash, shampoo etc. The only item we were missing was hand/body lotion.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not For Me!!"
our room was NOTHING like the website pictures. Ecletic ambiance that i am not into. cold terra cotta tile flooring with exoticly painted room. our room was on the third floor where the roof leaked and left melon sized blisters on the ceiling dripping water on the flloor. water pipes were extremely noisy, and paper thin walls allowed noise to penetrate. […] parking was in dark tight car ports. the external walk way to our room were sloped more than normal. I heard hammering and other noises so apparently the other third floor rooms had leaks also. though the staff was friendly, this place was not exactly what "I" would recommend to others. Especially when there are other places to choose from. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not posh, perfect for laid back beach vacationers"
This place is beautiful. I'm sitting in a chair by the window right now listening to the surf crashing against Avila Beach, literally a stone's throw away from the front of the Inn. If you are looking for a luxurious stay at a five diamond resort and room service, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a quaint little inn, close to […] the beach, with a number of nice little amenities, for a decent price, then you should give this place a try. 1) Construction: The walkways on the outside of the rooms, especially the ones around the courtyard rooms, look and feel as though they could collapse at any moment. Seriously, I don't want to jump and test it for fear of tumbling three stories as part of a collapse. I'm sure it is safe. It feels a little more sturdy when you get to the portion of the walkways that lead to the oceanfront rooms. This could be, and probably is, just my deep seeded paranoia playing with me. The stairs alongside the building also seem to be tilting to the side. 2) Rooms: The rooms are a little dated, and I didn't find the bed to be all that comfortable, but they have a little fridge, a mini stove that looks like it was once part of a play set (this is not a knock on the stove. My family thought it was cute), a fan (I couldn't figure out how to make the AC work, but you don't really need it this close to the beach). My wife really liked the tile work in the kitchen. 3) Amenities: This is where the Inn really scores most of its points. They have free rental of beach toys, including: boogie boards, sand toys, chairs, etc... They also have an extensive library of VHS and DVD movies ranging from Disney movies, to The Exorcist, to the Whoopi Goldberg classic "Sister Act" (3 copies). They have a nice set up of coffee or tea in the morning, and a lounge area with a TV to relax and enjoy breakfast. The greatest perk is the Sun Deck. Up on the 4th floor, they have a collection of outdoor daybeds, chairs, and hammocks where you can just sit t Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Inn at Avila Beach in Avila Beach CA"
The Inn was almost exactly as the reviews I read. Older and paper thin walls, but very roomy and the deck on top was phenomenal, such a treat. For the central coast it was reasonably priced and staff was great. What I did not know is the Inn will be remodeled soon and the lobby offers very nice beach chairs and boogie boards at no cost. There is no […] breakfast but as with every place in town all is within walking distance. Would stay again Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Avila beach inn"
My wife and I were on our honeymoon and Joe gave us one of their best rooms. The ocean waves crashing on the beach heard and scene from the living area made it an experience to remember. Thank you and we will definitely come back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to relax"
I stayed at the Avila Inn on a weekday - very quiet around town which was perfect. The room was great with a fantastic ocean view! The room was clean enough, very comfortable, and was quaint in decor. This goes down as one of my favorite places!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Inn at Avila is disappointing"
The pictures are better than reality; the town (except for this Inn) was rebuilt due to oil contamination in the past 10 yrs. No A/C, windows barely closed, my wall furnace had a gas odor the first night and no staff was available after 11pm when we returned, so slept with windows open into a small well lit courtyard. Next day staff turned off the furnace […] as well as the gas stove. Mgr gave quiet apology. Room was spacious, location very close to beach, but I will not stay at this place again. "Pay extra for a renovated room-it's worth it!"
08/14/14 Julie L Westminster, California
My kids and I stayed in one of the renovated rooms (212) with a jacuzzi tub and a cool shower. Very nice, spacious room. I've stayed at this place several times. The original rooms show a great deal of wear and tear, including broken knobs on cabinets/drawers, etc. Try to go off season to get better prices, but we love the uniqueness of the Inn at Avila Beach. They have a DVD/VHS video library that you can borrow movies from, microwave popcorn and bottled water for free in the room, and this last time we stayed-they now have chocolate cookies available in their kitchen area next to the office all day, PLUS guests are welcome to a piece of pie at 8:00 PM. We tried a berry peach pie, and it was delicious! They also gave us a coupon for an hour bike rental for 2 bikes (which we didn't use, but we appreciated the offer). The very friendly staff were accommodating and genuinely seemed to want their guests to have an enjoyable stay. The rooftop deck is very unique with a spectacular ocean view and comfy furniture (couches, chairs and hammocks). The only negative is that sound carries in this old building, plus the parking is right below the rooms, so voices of people arriving past midnight who were loudly talking and pulling their luggage woke us up. Other than that, thank you for a relaxing stay!
"Such a great staff"
My wife and I have been here several times and love staying here. The amenities are fantastic and we take advantage of it!! Mostly this time though I just wanted to say how great the staff is here. Everyone is extremely nice and pleasant! Edward will go out of his way for anything you need. Thanks for a great time...can't wait to come back. I miss it already.
"Nice quiet beach front"
Stayed there for one night in of the modern rooms in Aug. No AC but there is fan and I don't think it's getting that hot in that area anyway. Very nice and friendly staff. They have a DVD collection that you can borrow from. Fresh backed pie at evening :) very nice restaurants close by.

My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel primarily because we saw so many exceptional reviews for it. What reviewers said is mostly true but much is left out. The staff was excellent. The pie and cookies are a nice touch. The location is directly across from the ocean. The place has been under construction for some time. There are no elevators which is fine for most people but the stairs are slanted and crooked. Incredible so. The bathroom was not big enough for two people to be in and very rough. The tub had been painted several times and should be removed. We had a "suite". There are other locations that charge the same price but have far nicer facilities.
"Great location. Room was unique and romantic but uncomfortably hot ."
07/20/14 Carpebter San jose
The hotel itself is clean. Loved the upper deck with the hammocks and couches to relax with a glass of wine. Homemade pie at night was a nice touch .Just had a problem with the fireplace that wouldn't completely shut off. Room was very hot and ceiling fan was loud as well as the refridgerator. All in all, the room was romatic and unique but it was difficult to get a good nights sleep.
"This place is a Hidden Gem - Can't wait to go back!"

We stayed in the newly renovated Modern Spa Room, and it was beautiful. The spa in the room was great, and the details in the rooms décor were very nice. From the barn wood mantle and furniture, the wood look plank tile floors, beautiful custom bathroom sink and amazing Rain Shower with pebble tile floors, it was all very special. The staff was very friendly and the fresh baked cookies and pie were delicious!

First impressions of hotel were not brilliant as it was obvious that there was considerable building work going on, this proved not to be a problem as the work did not start too early and the builders we encountered were friendly. The manager asked us to pay for an upgrade which we declined as we were only staying one night enroute from LA to Monterey, he upgraded us anyway and we were given a beautiful room with spectacular views of the ocean. The room was quirky but added to the charm of an individual hotel, not your usual chain decor. We did not have time to use the record player and sadly only visited the roof terrace the following morning just before we left. We wish we had stayed an extra night at Avila Beach instead of Monterey. Went to third pier and took some great pictures of the seals sunning themselves.
"Best place we've stayed in years!!"
06/19/14 Kevin A Calabasas, California
My girl and I stopped in at Avila Beach after stops at Paso Robles and Cayoocus. It was our first time in this small beach town and shortly after coming into town we knew we were at least going to spend one night. We drove down the main road along the beach and came across the "Inn at Avila Beach" hotel. We were greeted with friendly staff and home backed cookies and already had a feeling this was going to be a great place to stay. And it was...this place had it all! First off they serve fresh baked pie, ice cream, coffee and tea every night at 8 in the cozy kitchen area right next to the lobby. They have a library room where you can borrow DVD's, board games and vinyl records!! Record players in the rooms, very cool, so we picked up a couple of each :) They also hook you up with beach toys, boogie boards, umbrellas for an awesome day at the beach. They have free bottles of water in the kitchen by the lobby as well, I mean who does that, most places would charge you at least 2 bucks per bottle! They have an awesome sun deck overlooking the ocean and beach, and the hotel is right on the beach. There are wet bars, and 2 person hammocks and TV's out there as well. This place really did have everything you could imagine, but still a beach vibe, very inviting. They even let you do laundry at certain times in the day if you need it. And there is so much more I am already forgetting but the best part was all the employees. So nice and 100% accommodating with any request. The manager Ed was so helpful several times during our stay, really nice guy who knows how to take care of guests. So much more I am forgetting but we are already planning another trip to the Inn at Avila Beach later this summer!! A++

Sat on the balcony overlooking the ocean till sundown. Slept with the door open and enjoyed the ocean breezes and sound of the waves! Great room! Clean with a cool shower! I would recommend this hotel when in the area.

Our only mistake is that we only stayed here one day. Firstly there will be people who are expecting a new hotel who will be disappointed. This can be seen in some of the reviews...Then there are people who enjoy the amazing location, rustic feel, beautiful family room, the fresh cookies and pie and the amazing sun deck. It was by luck I found this on the net before we left Australia and what grabbed me was the fact that local holiday makers continued to return to the hotel year after year and also the surprise that many expressed when they came here for the first time. There had to be something about it! There is a lot of work going on in refurbishing rooms.ours wasn't and had some peeling paint and general wear and tear but it actually added to the feeling we had when we lived in Europe and travelled to places like Spain and Portugal. For us we felt relaxed the moment we arrived and just wish we had more time. I couldn't recommend this hotel more highly but go with an understanding that it isn't a 5 star hotel by big chain standards but its a 5 star hotel for many more reasons.
