We come out to southern California every year and stay with family in Encinitas but we always take a little trip within the trip, usually up the coast. We took the train into slo and were thrilled with the ease of staying at the Rose Garden Inn. The diner out front is amazing. We rented a car but if you didn't, you can walk two blocks to a wonderful […] coffee shop - Blackhorse. The hotel jacuzzi is delightful with the waterfall. We were right near the pool and a little worried about noise since there were partiers in there. But they were friendly people and the jacuzzi closed at ten. After that, peace. The room was spotless. Big fluffy towels folded pretty. Nice friendly staff. We travel a lot. We will definitely come back here. Excellent deal. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"diamond in the rough"
i had a premium queen room with 2 queens and it was clean and very, very large especially for the price. the value for this hotel is incredible and i will definitely book here again. i HIGHLY recommend this place!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Highly recommend. Newly renovated, very large rm., comfortable bed. Waterfall jacuzzi was amazing.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great value and awesome hot tub"
After booking the room my friends that live in slo acted like it was terrible. They were so wrong. I almost changed to a motel 6 and I'm glad I didn't. The beds were comfortable, rooms were clean, staff was helpful, and the hot tub was amazing. We also bbq'd a tri tip on the deep pit grill they have. Will go back.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Fine for the money"
Worked out fine for the money. Easy to find. Staff was nice. Beds were too soft, didn't sleep as well as we would have liked. Had our little dog with us and they only charged $10 for her.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Basic, Clean and Affordable"
Easy access to the freeway - Right next to Margie's Diner for a great breakfastGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Clean room, but noisy surroundings, able to hear other guests walking up and down hallway and stairs.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Okay, but needed some help in a few areas."
The hotel is an old Howard Johnson's. In general, the room and the public areas were clean, and the furniture was up to date. However, the room had a leaky shower faucet, a coffee maker that was trashed by a previous guest but not cleaned out, a bed quilt with a hole in it, and cheap plastic hangers in the closet. With some better maintenance, the hotel […] could be a very good place to stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beds were VERY comfortable"
The room was clean, the beds were very comfortable and the staff was courteous. We were visiting Cal Poly, so the only thing I'd say is that is would have been nicer if it was closer to the campus and down town. We'll definitely stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is a clean average hotel with nothing remarkable about it, it is a bit tired and is showing its age but the owners are keeping it in reasonable conditions and the rooms are clean and secure.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel, great hot tub, and decent location."
We only stayed here one night and it was perfect for what we needed. Being Valentines day weekend we we're lucky to find rooms without paying an arm and a leg. We had one premium room and one standard. They main difference was the premium was a lot bigger. The check-in and check-out process was easy. They front desk girl was pleasant and helpful. The […] sheets and beds were comfortable and the AC/heater worked perfectly. The ONLY problems we had were that the pillows very lumpy (need to be replaced) and there were no robes for going to the pool and hot tub. Overall, we were happy with our stay. PS: GO TO COASTAL PEAKS COFFEE SHOP FOR AMAZING COFFEE AND EQUALLY AMAZING BREAKFAST BURRITOS. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel was conveniently located off the freeway. It needs to be updated but overall it was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the grounds were beautiful. Worth the price that we paid.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Love the SLO Rose garden Inn"
I stop here on the way to LA without exception because of its great price and awesome pool. The hot tub with the waterfall is gorgeous. I sip coffee in the mornings from it. Downsides old TVs. Prison yard colored energy efficient bulbs in most fixtures. Need to use warm lighting. Everything is a bit dated but clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable Nice place to stay"
Beds were comfortable, which is something we really look for. The décor could use some updating, but the price was great, the hot tub wonderful (the pool is NOT heated as promoted). Margie Diner next door has good food, portions are huge.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Everything was great but.... We had premier 2 queen bed poolside we got everything but the poolside :(Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good price, good hotel"
The hotel was basic. Clean room, a little outdated in the bathroom, but up to date technology in the room (mini fridge, microwave, flat screen TV). Everything was clean. Bathroom fixtures a little worn due to age, but overall not something warranting a bad review from me. I'd recommend this room if you need a place to stay and don't plan on spending […] a ton of time in the room, as there are no over the top services. No discount on diner next door anymore either. But that diner (Margie's) is really good! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good hotel with best hot tub ever!"
My sister and I stayed here at the end of our Highway 1 road trip. The location was very convenient, the hotel in good condition, and the big king bed comfortable. But by far the best feature of this hotel was the swimming pool / hot tub area. It was enclosed in a semiprivate area with nice landscaping and the hugest hot tub I have ever seen. It is […] big enough to do small laps. Looming over it is a big rocky "mountain" with two waterfalls. At night the watefalls have upward spotlights and to our astonishment the mountain is actually a "volcano", spewing steam. That feature may only happen when the hot tub jets are turned on so make sure to turn them on if you don't see it. We tried the diner next door but it was just OK and pretty expensive. We preferred the restaurants in downtown SLO. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"2nd stay at the Rose Garden"
For the price, the rooms are good. Neighborhood is good, but even though you can see it from highway and main road, the hotel is a little hard to get to the first time. The major bonus is the hot tub and pool. The hot tub is beautifully landscaped and very nice!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Super-easy access to the freeway and area beaches"
Very conveniently located between Pismo, Avila, and San Luis Obispo. Every room has outdoor access, and if you request a room facing the inside courtyard, you have a beautiful view of the garden area and that awesome pool/hot tub waterfall.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"I would stay again..."
Rooms are dated but clean...jacuzzi was very nice although we got there too late to enjoy. People very nice on property.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Spa is a bonus to have in winter."
Second time guest. I like that it is close to Margie's Diner and hidden. The heated spa was a bonus. Also, free access to WIFI and computer usage in lobby (with printer).Genuine Expedia guest review
Worn out mattress in an otherwise clean and tidy room. It's nothing fancy, overlooking the highway but the room was clean and visible timely upgrades had been made but the mattress was worn in and needed to be replaced.Genuine Expedia guest review
We loved that place.. for a 1* hotel- it has an awesome pool and hot top. Clean and close to the ocean (15 -20 min)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great for the price"
I have to say I don't understand the people who rate this place with one star. If you actually read the reviews it's usually because they're mad there wasn't a free breakfast or something trivial. Other one star hotels there are reviews that say they woke up to bedbugs! This place was great. Well maintained, not noisy, good location. I was very impressed […] for the price. I love staying in the big hotels on the coastline, but sometimes you need something not QUITE so pricy! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great affordable SLO hotel!"
Stayed with a family of four for one night during the holidays. Hotel was a pleasant alternative to staying in Pismo, which would have been much more expensive for the same night. Hotel staff was lovely. Staff were helpful and cheerful. Room was clean and amenities were stocked. Best surprise was pool area with a large hot tub with a rock waterfall […] and colored lights. Kids LOVED it and it felt wonderful after a day on the road. For the price of the room I feel it was a great value. Would stay again anytime. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Nice, clean, neat, quiet motel, with very helpful staff. Nice to have Margie's diner right next door, too. Half the price of the two big hotels right next door.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to stop for the night"
We stayed here as the half-way point for our trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles and it was very conveniently located to Highway 101 but not too close to hear the freeway traffic. The staff was very friendly and the room was clean. The flat panel TV had plenty of channels to choose from. We could hear steps on the floor above us and we had asked […] for an upstairs room, but since we only wanted 1 bed, we were told we're have to pay more to have a room on the 2nd floor where they are all 2 bed rooms. Also there were gaps in the sliding glass door, so the cold and noise from outside came in, but fortunately the heat worked really well. Overall, a good value for the money. "Great Overnight Stay"
Very nice staff, very clean and quiet rooms, and convenient diner right next door. Also let me keep my small dog in the room, for a $10 fee.Genuine Expedia guest review
Positives: hot tub was amazing, room was standard. My boyfriend and I check in and walk to our room that was assigned by the front desk employee who had not only written 212 on our key, but also handed us a map with 212 circled, thus our room: 212. We get to our room to find that the key does not work so we go to the front desk and he issues us another […] one after arguing with my boyfriend about whether or not he had actually gone to the correct room. We get a working key and enjoy the hot tub for a bit. Around 11 pm we are in bed when OUR DOOR OPENS and a random guest walks in to our room. I'm freaking out, clearly. We say "uhhh hello?" And the man replies "oops they must have given me the wrong room." He leaves and 5 minutes later, we get a phone call in our room. It's the front desk employee who has no remembrance of us and asks us who we are and why we are in that room. My boyfriend reminds him that we had just checked in a few hours ago and that HE put us in that room. After arguing with him, he remembers us and says "oh, I meant to put you guys in 112." Yeah buddy, well you didn't. I have never had my privacy invaded like that at a hotel. The man seemed somewhat apologetic on the phone but it was the last thing we wanted to be doing while being exhausted at 11 pm. It could have been a lot worse. We could have been out and someone would have had access to our belongings etc. Completely unacceptable. I will not stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Quiet and comfortable!"
My motfher and I traveled to SLO for the sad occasion of the funeral of my uncle, my mother's youngest sibling. We were looking for a place that had easy access on and off hwy 1, was quiet and clean and had the amenities we were looking for. This was an absolutely perfect place! There is a wonderful little diner adjacent to the hotel (Margie's Diner) […] that had decent "comfort" food (watch out....the portions are huge!!). The hotel provides a frig, microwave oven, hair dryer and coffee pot. I've found that many hotels these days don't do that or you have to request them to be brought in. The beds are really comfortable and the rooms were nicely decorated. We had first level rooms and those have sliding glass doors out to a pretty grassy area adjacent to the pool. The upper levels have walk out balconies. The staff was just the best ever! Even the fellow who was watering the beautiful Fuchia plants greeted us warmly! I would highly recommend this hotel and we WILL return without hesitation. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value, great hot tub"
The condition of the hotel itself is certainly a bit worn down. The carpet is old and some of the bathroom fixtures were rusting. However, we got a great rate for it and *loved* the large outdoor hot tub. All in all, a good value.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"I'll pay more for better everything"
First of all they gave us a room with a non working phone line, which was known to them. We switched room after realizing. The beds were comfy, the bathroom sink barely put out any water, and housekeeping knocked on our door starting at 8am even though check out was at 11. Housekeeping helped themselves in, luckily the top chain was locked. I'll never […] return to this place. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very accessable to all stores"
We had a great time and we were so close to everything that we were able to go to all the stores in the 2 days that we were there. The beds were small in the first room but we paid to have an upgrade and they were great!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value, location and comfort."
I have stayed here twice now in the last two months. The rooms are quiet and include a microwave and refrigerator. It is close to Margies Diner which is amazing for breakfast (share - one meal is enough for two). It is right across the street from the Marriott and about 1/2 - 1/3 the cost. The pool area is nice with a large jacuzzi. The rooms could […] use a little updating but, for the price I'm not complaining. The rooms with two beds are huge and the king room was sufficient. Ask for a room in the back farthest from the freeway for the most quiet. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Rude, Rude, Rude"
After reading the reviews prior to booking this room, I was under the impression that the staff was very friendly. I must have totally misunderstood, because the woman that waited on us never introduced herself, much less greeted us in a friendly manner. It was like pulling teeth to get any information about the hotel much less the surrounding area. […] She was not forthcoming with anything, not even our receipt when we checked out. Honestly, she did not smile not even once. Although, when I asked the maid for 2 extra pillows, she was extremely accommodating, now she was friendly and smiled. I do have to admit the price was right and the easy access to the frwy. was an added bonus. Margie's restaurant had good food, a little pricey, but they do give hefty portions and the food was substantially good. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The hotel was an older in need of upgrading."
This was the lowest priced motel we could find in the area and they take dogs for only 10.00 per day more which was reasonable. The fixtures in the bath rooms were sadly in need of updating. They had the water pressure really low in the sinks. The beds were in desperate need of replacing. They were so worn out that we had back aches when we woke up […] in the morning. We drove in to spend the night before going fishing the next day. The room was nice. The amenities were a bit lacking. Price paid was probably a bit high for what we got but not by much. Nice hotel. Beds were a bit soft. But it served out needs. Not somewhere I would want to spend a lot of time, though.Genuine Expedia guest review
Real value for the money. Conveniently located. The staff is attentive and polite. The room was clean and nicely decorated. All the room equipment worked impeccably. Decent diner just next door. Would recommend to any family without hesitation.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"What a find!"
I was in Paso for a wine tasting weekend with my sister and I cannot believe we found this hotel! The rates were lower than most of similar quality in the area, but the room was huge, clean and had very comfortable beds. Our room had a beautiful view of the sunrise. The hot tub is HUGE and has a waterfall, which made it doubly relaxing. We also saw […] a lot of families here with their kids playing in the pool. I would stay here again and plan on it when we return for another wine tasting weekend! It was just so unexpected since the ratings weren't all that high. Loved it! "Down for the weekend to see our daughter"
The rooms are large and ok. The halls reek with air freshener that I didn't like. The grounds, especially the hot tub and pool, are very nice. A bit dificult to find if you haven't been there before. For the price/value is ok.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
