"Good Locaton, Good Price"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
The hotel was adequate and the location convenient for the event I attended. The price was reasonable. I appreciated the free continental breakfast. The breakfast room--an interior room without windows--is small and was crowded both days I was there. Alternate seating is in the more pleasant lobby with windows! Also at this Best Western, unlike at other BWs where I've stayed, the towels noticeably scratchy, not soft, are either old or require different laundering.

During warm weather, crowds pack the waters off Mission Beach and Pacific Beach, two of the most popular stretches of San Diego sand. These laidback locales are known to host the occasional farmer’s market or arts festival. Mission Boulevard connects both beaches and leads north to La Jolla.

"Great location"
I thought the hotel was only ok. For the price I paid, I thought the rooms would have been a little nicer. We got the bayview room in the tower. The view was nice, but the room was a little outdated, and was the rest of the building. Our shower was backed up a bit the entire time we were there, although we did not call anyone to come take a look at […] it. We did take advantage of the boat cruise but only went to the other hotel and got off there, it was nothing spectacular. We didn't use any of the ammenities so I can't comment on that. But the location was great, right on the bay and very close to the ocean. Read more

"Hotel was just ok...."
The weather was not the fault of the Hotel but it did add to our overall dismay. The hallways were dated and poorly maintained although housekeeping did a good job in our rooms. Not worth the price. The free arcade wash poorly maintained and the air hockey table was broken. We were disappointed when the resort activities were not opens at 10am on Monday. […] I mean we are on vacation and active folks are up and about early. I am not sure if they opened later since we left because we didn't have much to do. Sadly we will not return. Read more
"Great For Kids"
Unbelievable quality hotel/resort right on Mission Bay and one step from Mission Beach. The best of both worlds and a fabulously up-kept, quality property. Cannot recommend the Catamaran enough. Was upgraded to a 1st floor room on the bay and it was absolutely fabulous.
"Beautiful Views!!"
Very nice Hotel, GREAT location!!
"Filthy and Outdated"
Where do I begin? Our first room smelled like pickles, had mold in the showers, comforters had white film on them and there were bugs, second room I was moved to was beside the laundry/trash facilty, next to a road, where I was woken up to by trash trucks, laundry people, and road drilling... room still dirty... Third room was a little better, it was […] at least ocean front, but I had to beg for it, and they acted like I was picky. Room still smelled like somone had dumped a jar of old spice, rooms were paper thin, and heaters were old and noisy... they promised to comp. me a breakfast after second room didn't work out and when I checked out it was on my bill! The woman at the front desk said there were no notes about my problems! What a nightmare that place was. Gardens and ponds are filthy...restroom in entry way has towels under the toilets to collect leaking water from the spickets.. what a nightmare. I stayed here about 11 years ago and it was beuatiful. What a shame. Surounding neighborhood shady as well. Read more

"The Catamaran in pacific beach san diego"
This hotel was fabulous. Loved it!
For a "resort and spa" i was a little surprised of how bland the room was. I was at least expecting a fridge. I was on the 13 th floor with a great view of the ocean from the balcony. The garden was nice with all the birds and fish. The prices at the bar were very fair. Over all it is a great place to stay the night, but withou a fridge or microwave […] in the room i wouldnt spend the money for a prolonged stay. Read more
"Excellent hotel right of PB"
Location was fantastic, a block away from beach, a few blocks from Garnett and pier. Service was good, nice people. Upgraded us to studio which was awesome, also had pool and jacuzzi as well as free arcade and gave us coupons for free bay cruise which completed the trip.
"Great Hotel Close to the Mission Beach"
This hotel was great. The private beach is great if you just want to relax and Mission beach was only about a 10 minute walk from our room. The hotel grounds are beautiful and make the stay very relaxing. Both my 15 and 3 year old had a great time here.
"Catamaran Hotel"
The hotel was great. The location was a block from the beach and within walking distance of retuarants and markets. The staff was great and the room was just what my family needed. I would recomend this hotel to others and my family will stay here again.
"Spring Break 2012"
I took my daughter to San Diego for Spring Break and we had a wonderful time. Although I suspect other hotels were host to loud, out of control, all-night parties – the Catamaran Resort & Spa was a beautiful haven where the nights were peaceful, the amenities delightful, and the location was ideal – still close to all the beach action. I would definitely […] return to this property. Read more
"GREAT FOR KIDS!"
My stay included myself and my 8yr old son. He was in love with the ducks, the beach, and the whole landscaped setting of the hotel. Beach access and closeness to all attractions was excellent. The only drawback is with the room. The room itself is clean if worn, just needing an update. Unfortunately, if you want to sleep at all I suggest you bring […] along your air mattress! Bed was so bad even the 8yr old complained, and he can sleep anywhere. Overall, would definately come back with our air mattress for another great stay. Read more

"Great location and tropical feel"
The staff at the Catamaran were very friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful with a tropical resort theme and love the Macaws! There are lots of water sport rentals and bike rentals and being on the bay there is the Bahia Belle paddle boat. Love the location on the bay in Mission Beach; restaurants and bars within walking distance and always […] enjoy the boardwalk along the bay and the ocean. I had a kitchen in my room which was a nice feature although it could use some updating along with the bathroom but still a very comfortable room. Read more

"Catarmaran Resort and Spa in San Diego"
The spa was very relaxing and neat, loved it! Massage therapist was not very experienced. Hotel was very close to Seaworld.
"Catamaran - stay here in the summer or for the spa"
We stayed here for a girls getaway in late November. It was a bummer that the pool areas & game rooms were closed. Overall, the resort is quaint (watch out if you're not a fan of birds - they are everywhere) & within walking distance of a few interesting shops & the beach. Some of the staff were quite pleasant, but some were pretentious or stand-offish. […] The spa services were the redeeming quality of this stay. Catamaran has a really nice steam room, sauna & dressing room and the spa staff were friendly & skilled (we were also the only clientele there). Watch out for expensive hidden resort charges (i.e. you have to pay extra if you want more than 1 coffee package per day). Read more

"Catamaran Resort and Spa"
I normally do not write reviews but this hotel deserves one! Went to San Diego with the wife and 2 yr old, destination Sea World. My daughter could careless about Sea World but had the best time at the resort. It had ponds of fish, awesome looking ducks and large parrot type birds. Threw a fit when we had to leave. We were upgraded to a view room and […] given tickets to the ferry on Mission Bay, an unexpected surprise! Staff was very friendly and helpful. Just a great place to stay. Read more
"Great location!"
Rooms a little small but the rest of the resort makes up for it! The beach is great, nice pool and hot tub! Service was great!
"No hot water"
The actual hotel was nice. The service was great. Only problem - there was no hot water New Years Day. So, that meant no showers for anyone in the Tower. Since we went through Hotels.com, they could not offer us any discounts or anything.
"Momentary disappointment"
When we arrived for our 15th anniversary getaway, we discovered that we were given a room with 2 double beds in it on the ground floor. No way! Paul got us an upgrade and we ended up on the 8th floor overlooking the beautiful San Diego sky line and the Misssion Bay beach area. And we got our King size bed. There is so much to do in this area alone that […] we had too many choices and not enough time to enjoy them all. Read more

"Good location"
We chose the hotel for the location but would likely not stay there again if it were somewhere else. The room we reserved (one king bed) was only available if we were willing to pay extra. They claimed that a reservation through a third party site does not guarantee a type even though we had multipe room types to choose from when booking. Not a big […] deal considering the next day the entire resort lost water pressure right during at the start of my shower. We were unable to shower all that day and the only explanation we received was that it was a city-wide problem but we failed to see any other affected businesses in the area. Overall it was fine and the location is great. Read more

"Perfect Location"
The Catamaran is right on the Bay sitting on a sand beach. The grounds are lovely- beautiful landscaping, ponds, walkways. Great pool & hot tub area. Our room, which we booked at a discounted rate, was shabby chic and clean. The kitchen area was dated but functional as were the furnishings. I believe there may be updated rooms available but we didn't […] mind a bit of wear and tear for a bargain rate. We were out enjoying the area most of the time and only came to the room to change and sleep. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Read more
"The Catamaran in Mission Bay (San Diego)"
A comfortable, Polynesian-style resort hotel well situated on the shores of Mission Bay. Wonderful recreation and entertainment options nearby. The hotel staff is friendly and efficient. Great hotel but we were early for check in and they didn't let us into our room for 2 1/2 hours. They did give us bands to use the pool (though we didn't have our luggage...). Location is great, Ameneties were good. Who sleeps in full beds anymore? Also, the rooms need to be updated from the 70's
"Catamaran San Deigo Cal."
We get there we are on the 7th floor,i said no way. That part of the hotel had a bad smell. Right away called front desk. They moved us to #218, which was fine with us. Get in there the air is blowing hot air. My husband ask some guy, he said call engineering. He called, within 3 min. he was there and it took 10 min. to repair. The employees were all […] very nice. "Excellent Location"
The hotel in located directly on Mission Bay. Beautiful grounds and beautiful scenery. It was great to just walk a few minutes and cross the street to the ocean beach. This is our second stay at the Catamaran and I would reccommend it to anyone.

"Cataraman Resort & Spa-San Diego, CA"
Everything was perfect about this hotel, except for the restaurant service. It was HORRIBLE! We ordered a Cesaer Salad and Chips/Salsa. 50 minutes later, still no food! That's when I cancelled the order. Decided to give the restaurant another chance and had breakfast there the next morning. Took 45 minutes to get the food and I rec'd the wrong omelette. […] Also, very hard to find a waiter/waitress after placing your order! I would recommend this hotel for the location, it's AWESOME, but I would NOT recommend eating there! Read more
This was one of the best hotels I ever stayed at. The staff was unbelievable, superior customer service. The grounds were absolutely beautiful. The bay was right there and the beach was a 3 minute walk.
"Would recommend but with some explanation"
The room was old and outdated in need of refurbishment. The bed spread was old and stained. The view of the ocean was very nice from the 8th floor. We ate at the hotel restaurant 3 times. The service was very good for 2 of the 3. The bad service came on the last day for breakfast. The service was non-existent. We were left sitting for over 15 minutes […] while others who came after us were getting coffee and their orders taken. I flagged the hostess down and complained. She would take care of it. We then waited 5 more minutes before we got up and left. No one ever came to our table. For the 2 times that we did eat the food was good. Read more

Nice grounds but the rooms are bad. Dirty carpets, poor plumbing, in need of a remodel. The staff on room service are great and overall friendliness of staff is good. Great location.
"Nice, but expensive!"
My wife and I enjoyed the location and the staff was especially nice. However, at such a high nightly rate+ parking, It seemed a bit steep.
"Nice beach, close to Sea World"
A significant portion of the staff (front desk) is not helpful or knowledgeable. The rooms are okay.
"Catamaran Resort-San Diego"
Excellent hotel service and hotel staff were great. Great location to walk to may eating establishments. Ocean at your finger tips as well as the bay beach. Pool was great. Only issue I believe they need better towels for the rooms. The rooms and the hotel grounds are in great condition. I would stay here again. Easy access to downtown and north along […] the coast. "The Cataraman Resort and Nice tropical atmosphere"
My family really enjoyed the tropical atmosphere, calm surroundings of this hotel. The staff was friendly and the the hotel is very kid friendly. My kids loved to go see the ducks, fish and birds as soon as they got up every morning. The location is also great, close to tons of restaurants, the beach, the bay, sea World, downtown, etc.
"Catamaran Resort and Spa Its ok"
Stayed just the one night while I was down in San Diego. I made the reservations more then a month in advance for one room with king sized bed and one room with double beds. They gave us two double bed rooms instead. They did work to get my companions the king sized bed I requested and confirmed in my reservation but they wound up putting us on different […] floors. My room was ok. It seemed like it was for someone with a small family as it came with a 1950's stove, a toaster, microwave and a fridge. That was nice because it kept the drinks I had cold all night without going down several floors to the only ice machine in the building. The bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. The door to the balcony was broken, as the latch would not raise the catch on the door and you had to manually pull it off to open the door to have your view of the parking garage outside your room. The clock in the room was broken, it ran fast, and you could not correct the time, or change the alarm. The decor was not bad. The overall look of the place was very nice, and it is right on the water like they promised. Overall, it was an average hotel. The little things needed to be better, but it served its purpose. It was a comfortable room for the night . I have stayed at much worse hotels, but I have stayed at much better as well. Read more

This was our 1st time @ Catamaran and were amazed about how great the location is (if you are going to SD to spend time on the beach). You can see the lifeguard tower on Mission Beach from the front enterence to hotel and are a < 10 min walk to the Crystal Pier on Pacific Beach. Lots of cool shops and small surfer bars everywhere.
