"Uniquely Bad First Impression"
There are few decent hotels in an area with a U Mass campus. Therefore value for money index is low. Despite a plethora of complaints, owners refuse to install automatic entrance doors, making the first impression very unpleasant with double manual doors to navigate with luggage.

"Disappointed. Needs a serious refresh."
My wife, our 20 month old and our my in-laws were in town for a funeral this past weekend. This hotel was the highest rated in the New Bedford area, so we picked it. We were very disappointed. The rooms are aged and furniture was a bit tattered. Our tiny double bed had a mattress that seemed about 1/4" thick. It was the worst night's sleep my wife or I have had in a long time. In-laws had a similar experience in their room. The Residence Inn is not the Four Seasons, so our expectations were right. But, having stayed at many Residence Inns in my regular travels, this place was a disappointment. If it really is the nicest hotel in New Bedford, I'm sorry. The staff was very courteous and responsive, but I certainly would not stay here again.

"Convenient Location"
The hotel was nice and the breakfast was decent. The room was beautiful as well, but one of the sheets had a "yellowish" spot with an estimated circumference of 4 inches... pretty gross.

"Nice neighborhood ... closer to good restaurants"
Stay was fine, all staff were friendly except one. I do not remember her name, which means she will get through her same behavior again however, I do remember that she is a front desk staff and her name starts with the letter 'A'. She was the one who checked us in. She did not offer us the complimentary water bottle and nature valley bar and I feel she was a little on the not so good attitude side. I told her that our room had dirty cups in the kitchen closet and they it was just that someone previously must have used it and not even bothered to wash it and also there was hair on our bedsheets, she did not bother to do anything about it until I asked for a replacement bedsheet. I just believe that for a hotel like marriott the customer service and response should be great, however this was not the case. Also, everyday the breakfast was the same, no variance at all.

"Hotel like being Home"
The hotel and staff did a great job of taking care of our needs for the two days we stayed there. From being taken care of at the front desk to the time we checked out. I will stay there or another Residents Inn any where else in the country. Thanks making us feel welcome

"Enjoyable stay in Dartmouth MA."
We spent a few days exploring the area around New Bedford, MA and Rhode Island. We had our two dogs and found the Residence Inn to be extremely accommodating for our travel entourage. Very nice.

"Nice hotel, friendly staff"
This hotel was great in terms of cleanliness, comfort, and friendliness of the staff. We liked our room, which was a clean, well-kept, and spacious studio style room with a kitchenette, living area, and sleeping area. However, my reservation was for a queen non-smoking room, and we only got a full-size bed. We didn't complain as we were in a rush to get to a wedding, but still... for $200/night I'd hope they get the reservation right. My only other complaint would be that the bathroom fan/light was extremely loud as was the A/C in the room... the room was also freezing when we got in as the thermostat was set to 62*. Other than that, this hotel is in a very convenient location right off of the freeway with a McD's within walking distance and a gas station right next to it.

"Good choice when visiting the New Bedford Area"
This is a well located hotel, with very nice, caring staff. Good cleanliness standards. We enjoyed our stay and found the location very convenient. Breakfast was excellent - it included full choice of baked goods, hot oatmeal, waffles and just about everything else you could want. The only complaint I have about the room is that the mattress on the sofa bed was stained and worn to the point that I could feel the springs (room 229) The second evening I chose to sleep on the sofa unopened as a result. Other than that, it was indeed a nice place to stay.

"Questionable Value"
We have reviewed over 40 hotels on this website during the past two years and this hotel is the most difficult to rate or review. We stayed in this hotel (the Residence Inn New Bedford) because it was rated "outstanding" on the hotels.com website. Well it is clearly not outstanding. It is mediocre at best. The beds were lumpy and miserable to sleep on. The swimming pool was cold and the hot tub was too hot. The breakfast was standard and nothing special. The morning person behind the front desk was rude. We stayed at this hotel for two nights because we had prepaid, but seriously considered moving out anyhow. All of this considered, the room was relatively large and it was clean; but come on -- clean? Is that why you want to stay in a hotel, because it is clean? It SHOULD be clean, and a lot more. This hotel was nothing more, but it was clean.

"More than I expected - Really comfy bed too"
Reception was friendly and efficient, which was greatly appreciated as I arrived quite late. The room was a full suite, with everything you need in a room and so much more, though as I was there for one night only, I couldn't use it to its full potential. I have to say that I was travelling around various hotels in the US for three weeks, and that bed was the most comfortable I had throughout my travels - I wish all hotels had beds like that one! A great night's sleep there! Highly recommended.

Stayed here in mid-July with a group of five women. We had a two bedroom suite with a pullout couch. We loved the fact that we had ample room. The kitchen was great to have, even if we just used the microwave and refrigerator. The hotel was quiet and the front desk was helpful in finding restaurants. Breakfast was convenient and despite the rubbery scrambled eggs, we enjoyed it. The hotel is in a good location, very close to shopping areas and not far from Newport, RI.

First, accolades to Christopher at the front desk. He was helpful and most personable. Room was clean, beds were good, these being my prime criteria for a positive review. There was a chair in the living room area that obviously needed either fabric recovering or replacement. WiFi worked well after late evening arrival. Breakfast selections were adequate and area was well maintained. If I hadn't previously driven there at night, I'm certain I would have had difficulty finding the hotel due to the road construction and absence of hotel signs after exiting I-195 West.

Decided to stay here for five days because of location between Newport, Providence and Boston. While there was a lot of construction going on on the highway, getting in and out was not a problem. The staff was very friendly. My compliments go out to the chef who was putting in a minimum of twelve hour shifts. He kept breakfast and evening reception food items tasty and fresh.

Checked in late on a Tuesday night. Room was clean and bedding was comfortable. This property is more suited for the leisure traveler. The breakfast was very good, but the workout room had no water avalilable. There are no work desks or comfortable chairs in the rooms if you need a comfortable seat and room to spread out. Unfortunately, the $170 room rate was not a value for this type of lodging. The TV and remote in the bedroom were not functional either. Not sure of the rates in other nearby properties, but you may be better off elsewhere if staying on business.

I was in town for a weekend event at UMass Dartmouth and chose this hotel for the roomy two bedroom suite and other reviews. I was able to check in a little early and found our suite to be a perfect setup for us. Sadly, the first impression as I opened the door to our room was not too favorable....imagine my surprise when the first thing I saw was three, yes THREE very bad, very big dark stains on the carpet. I just never understand how this can happen as there are commercial carpet cleaning products to clean these stains and there's always the opportunity to replace if necessary. I found the rest of the furnishings to be in good condition and the beds were immaculate and very fresh and comfortable. Four large pillows of different firmness made my pillow experience very happy. The kitchen was adequately stocked. The ice maker had been turned off and it was VERY noisy when we turned it on, as was the A/C unit. The bathroom fan is not on a separate switch so it comes on when you turn the light on and is very noisy. There were guests on the floor above us and we heard EVERY footstep as if it were a herd of elephants who had taken up residence. The location is convenient to much of what southern MA has to offer as well as nearby RI. The free breakfast was as expected and the free wifi worked perfectly. I would certainly stay here again but would request a room away from the highway and I did not see any elevator so 2nd floor is not an option for me but I would suggest other travelers try to not be on the first floor.

I haven't stayed in a Residence Inn before, but I really liked this one. You get a suite with a serviceable kitchen, stove, fridge, dishwasher and a nice spacious room. Free breakfast - a real breakfast. Laundry facilities on site. No fancy lobby or frills - just clean nice rooms. Lots of parking. Just what you need for a week's stay - or longer. Free internet was OK - pay internet ($5/day) was super. Its very close (by car or very long walk) to New Bedford. Short distance to U Mass and some nice coastal beaches. The immediate surroundings are continuous mall and strip mall. Not scenic, but its a drive-to motel.

From the moment we pulled in our overall experience was a pleasure. We were greeted with a smile and a very knowledgeable front desk staff that truly cared for your needs during the entire stay. In a nutshell the staff is just really down to earth and good at what they do. The rooms are fantastic. They're spotlessly clean, VERY well appointed (we stayed in a 1br suite which we could almost live permanently in---it was bigger than a lot of NYC apts that cost $3000+ a month) and beautifully decorated. The bed was right on--both great support and comfort with fresh linens and great pillows. The kitchen was fully equipped and the bathroom was so clean that you could see your reflection on the tiles. The water pressure and hot water were great and as opposed to many other hotels/motels we've stayed the drains here work splendidly. We highly recommend this establishment for any purpose, not in the least to split up a long tiring drive to the Cape---the ramp to 195 may as well be connected to the parking lot and you're over the Sagamore Bridge within the hour (off season that is--yet another reason to stay) .

We choose this hotel because of our past experiences with the Marriott hotels. Because there were three of us we had to utilize the pull-out couch, almost ended up on the floor because of the broken mechanism and very thin mattress. The double bed mattress also needed updating.
