"Great Place to Stay"
Usually stay at the Wharf Inn, but they were booked up so tried this place, glad we did. The Manager up front is Awesome, has been working there 20 years and knows all kinds of things about the city and is willing to help. Parking is free, but the spaces are VERY tight. Breakfast was provided in a small area to take back to the room, and was about what […] one would expect, not bad by any means. Will probably be staying here from now on. Terrific little hotel, a hidden jem. The rooms are spacious with very comfortable beds with free HBO and wi-fi, there is also free continental breakfast in the mornings. The staff was very helpful with map and tips for the surrounding area. the hotel is centrally located within 10 minutes walking distance of almost everything, or a short and very reasonable […] taxi cab ride. We walked to Fisherman's Wharf. :-). The bottom line, I would definitely stay there again! I'm easy! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Area...Dated Hotel"
We choose Castle Inn mainly for two reasons. One they offered free parking (and there was plenty of free parking,) Two, while searching for hotels we realized San Fransicso was very expensive and the Castle Inn was reasonable for its location and again FREE PARKING! Upon arriving at the hotel I immediately smelled a old musky smell. Entering our room […] I could see it was really outdated and is in real need for renovation. The air conditioner wasn't blowing cold, however when we took our complaint to management they offered us a "swamp cooler" a glorified fan and while it being five minutes til closing. Management was very helpful, I asked for a restaurant recommendation and I was told the Bell Tower right around the corner was good. OMG, their crispy ahi tuna tacos was one of my favorite meals on my visit to San Fran. Would I stay there again? I honestly cannot answer that. Although the room was old and dated the neighborhood was exactly what my husband and I were looking for. We wanted a hotel in walking distance to the bay, it was. We wanted a hotel with a little night life, it was there, not over powering or loud but a few local bars. We wanted to walk to restaurants and we did. Toast had an awesome breakfast, I had homemade corned beef hash. As I mentioned, the Bell Tower was delish. We also visited a triple d joint (Drive-Inns, Diners and Dives). And Walgreens was on the corner. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Adequate hotel in convenient location"
Hotel is dated; needed to use elevator to get to room with luggage. The parking is limited on the property and hard to maneuver. There is no one at the desk overnight; we wanted to check out early the second morning to get on the road, but had to wait to leave our key. The location is good; only a two block walk to the Starbucks and the cable car.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, fairly close to attractions."
Staff could have been a bit more friendly and helpful. Overall a nice , clean hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
Staff was very friendly and helpful. They recommended a local restaurant were we had a great meal away from the other tourists. Location of hotel was great, we walked to all the sites. Basic hotel but for the price, location and staff we would go back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Just 2blocks to cable cars!"
Ability to Park off-street a Big plus and nö charge for it!! Breakfast Continental was okay, 2 Queen beds very much appreciated.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice hotel"
The hotel was very clean and the staff was very helpful. Many restaurants and stores are walking distance from the hotel. The drive to the Golden Gate Park and Golden Gate bridge is not too bad, very near by. I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend. A very great and pleasing experience.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not bad if you plan to be out a lot"
AC did not keep the room sufficiently cool but the temp was manageable as it cooled off in the evening. Wifi signal too weak for the room I was in at the end of the third floor. Otherwise no complaints, just nothing special.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A Little out of the way."
Wouldn't let us book in early but allowed us to park in car park. Didn't have enough spaces though.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great place to stay for sight seeing"
We were their for sight seeing and was in the perfect location 5min to the golden gate bridge, 10 min away from downtown 3 min away rom fisherman warf.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel is great if you just need a clean bed to sleep in. The room is clean, quiet and comfortable. Could use an update on decor, but all amenities were fine. The WiFi did not work great but if you get on it early in the morning it is fine. The location was wonderful. Many great restaurants and transportation was very close. Starbucks around the […] corner sold me! The parking is a little cramped, but free which is awesome in a major city. The staff was very helpful directing us to major sites. The breakfast is grab-and-go... yogurt, cereal bars, fruit, coffee and OJ. It is gone at 9am so get there early! It was a great place to stay. We enjoyed our week in San Francisco. "Close to EVERYTHING!"
They had space or would make space for my full size truck and my bicycles. The room had a lot of space. The staff was courteous and we were very happy with our stay here.Genuine Expedia guest review
Clean and quiet. We were lucky to get a room way back from the street. Funky old elevator, but it worked well. Breakfast was packaged pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt. The coffee was already gone at 7:30 so I went around the corner where there was a Peets and a Starbucks. Great neighborhood; Walgreens, Real Foods, good restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel for a nice or two"
For the price and location, no complaints. Motel feel. Free parking was great (watch out for the really loud beeping when you enter).Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not for people looking for a quite sleep."
Pros - Free Parking ; Located in Downtown. Cons - Very Noisy neighborhood. Woke up early morning due to Traffic noises. Breakfast, was only a formality, minimal options, that one needs to take back to their rooms to have.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel, conveniently located"
Convenient location. Provided starter breakfast to get going. Pleasant and accommodating staff.Genuine Expedia guest review
The staff was very helpful! I own a truck and they accomidated me and helped us with places to go and things to see provided us a map and discounts. The room was alright the wall paper was falling off the wall and the trash had not been taken out from the prior customer. Cleanliness was okay I did find hair on the towels, shower and on the floor that […] was not from me. But we didn't stay in the hotel a whole lot. It was a 15 min walking distance from the piers so great place to head out In the morning and was able to come back in the afternoon to rest and head out for the night. "Comfortable, affordable, close to bus, and clean!"
For a motel, this beat my expectations. Parking was a must for me and it was free and guaranteed -- not normal for San Francisco. The room was large, clean and had all that you needed. I felt safe as a single woman both in the hotel and the surrounding area. It was very close to Van Ness, a major street, with buses every few minutes. The setting is […] nice too for a motel -- it is set back between the large buildings and felt secure. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good location. Needs a lot of repair."
Although the proprietors are very helpful, giving directions and sightseeing information, but this motel is very tired and can often be very noisy. Don't be fooled by the continental breakfast. This a few pre-packaged pastries and granola bars on a counter in the small office, no fresh baked goods. Just the same, just a block away are some very cute […] and inexpensive coffee shops that are very nice. For the money, at least this is clean and the location is good. "We love Castle Inn!"
Three of my girlfriends and I wanted to experience San Francisco, and Castle was the perfect fit. It was close to both Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf and had what we call "the big three:" breakfast, free parking, and free internet. We had a fabulous time, the beds were SUPER comfy, and the bathroom was impeccably clean.Genuine Expedia guest review
Everything was ok, My only qualm was the bed was kind of lumpy so I didn't sleeo very well. Other than that, everything was great. Thankyou,Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wonderful refuge in the midst of San Francisco."
This is a retro motor court hotel but very updated. It maintains the prime benefit of a motor court hotel in San Francisco -- PARKING! The parking spaces are tight but if everyone parks properly, doable. PARK and walk and explore the neighborhood! Polk Street, Russian Hill, Crooked Street etc., but within 15 minute walk of so much more including Fisherman's […] Warf. The parking is there when you need or want to drive from and back to it. The rooms are CLEAN, the staff is FRIENDLY and HELPFUL! This is your home and haven as you explore the offerings of San Francisco. Plenty of nice and affordable restauraunts in short walking distance. Much more affordable than the restaurants on the Embarcadero. Highly recommended for the value. Just leave a room for me the next time I visit SF! ; ) Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Hotel was on the South end of a great residential neighborhood, but I was told by a local not to go further North, by myself after dark. However, there were great shops/places to eat either direction on Polk. It was also two blocks to the Trolley line and 1/2 a block to the bus line. Loved the neighborhood, but I felt the hotel itself was a little sketchy. […] Seemed clean (checked for bedbugs, not there, and the bathroom smelled overwhelmingly of lysol) and it was comfortable, just worn down and old. The ladies at the front desk were super helpful, the guy not so much. The Continenal breakfast was kindof a joke but doable if you wanted coffee and sugary food (pastries, yogurt, no fruit). Overall, stay was ok. Next time I'll probably spend a bit more for a nicer place. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Best night sleep I've ever had in a hotel. The blackout curtains kept the room nice and dark . The bed was comfortable and the room smelled clean and wasn't stuffy. Except for the occasional siren I heard very little of the outside noise.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Poor Service & Never Come Again!!"
Very Poor Front Desk Service; TV is not working, Sofa and carpet are dirty, breakfast is bad, only with one cold bread. really do not know why the past rate is 3.8?Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient to bus and cable car lines."
Charming hotel with pleasant staff. This was our second stay there. Would stay again. Close to little groceries including an organic store. Restaurants nearby. Had a firidge and microwave and free breakfast things, though not hot food like some do. Did have oatmeal I think. Would have liked if they would have provided a computer or at least offered […] to let us do our boarding passes online the day before our flight. No lobby computer access. For people with smartphones that is not as much a problem. Desk staff very helpful with how to get to places. We enjoy staying there. Best to rent a small car to use their parking. "Nice hotel for the price."
We really enjoyed out stay at Castle Inn. We used to stay at Holiday Inn on Van Ness, but at this trip we decided to try something new and it was a good experience. "Great deal and free parking"
Older hotel but a great value for the money. Plus where in San Francisco others than the Castle has free parking. No where :)Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good if you are out and about"
This is not an "inn" or hotel. It is an older motel, open walkway, several stories high. If what you want is a really basic, older style room--clean, safe, quiet--in a comfortable part of SF, then you will be OK. The gentleman at the desk was very helpful with directions that were clear and accurate. Parking quite limited and small but buses very available […] once you park. To say you can walk to lots of destinations is for a very strong walker but buses worked fine. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great deal on a nice, clean place."
I'm not sure why this hotel is so poorly reviewed on Expedia. It's actually very well reviewed on Trip Advisor. We got a corner room which was great ... large windows, updated TV with HBO and it was nice and clean. Working microwave/fridge was a plus and can't beat free garage parking in SF. Only complaints would be that it was a bit loud, both from […] the street and the people above. Thought it was a great deal for the price though and in good proximity to many things to do. In a good neighborhood. 15 walking min. from wharf, 25 to Alcatraz landing. Very roomy and comfortable room. Parking is on site ,but very tight . Never had a problem though, larger suvs ,cars might. Manager let us know what neighborhood(s) to avoid. Great value for the money.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Super nice neighborhood"
The elevator is very old fashion and we thought the hotel rooms were going to be bad. But it turns out that the rooms are very spacial and comfortable, especially for its cheap price. The front desk is very helpful and nice. And we love the neighborhood -- cute little stores, coffee shops, great restaurants, etc. There are several bus lines in the area […] as well. "Hotel needs work"
The hotel was clean, but very run down. Wallpaper was falling off, carpet was threadbare and there were holes in the sheets on the beds. Unfortunately, if you are looking for a room with two queen beds, your choices are very limited.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good enough, no frills, but clean and safe"
Affordable, no frills place to stay. You can trust the rooms to be clean and not worry about being accosted in the surrounding area. I will return because for the price I know i will get something good enough...especially knowing that for the same price one can very easily find themselves in a very bad hotel in sf.Genuine Expedia guest review
I did A LOT of searching for a room in a good neighborhood at a decent price. Many of the reviews I found for quality hotels and such left much to be desired. It is not easy to please everyone and I took this into consideration when I was looking for a place to stay. The Castle Inn was an awesome find! The front desk staff was super helpful and nice- […] what I liked in particular was how I was literally shown on a map of the city, where exactly NOT to go (i.e. bad neighborhoods = no bueno). The Castle Inn's surrounding neighborhood felt comfortable to walk alone at night, provided the common sense any single gal traveling alone would use. The room was plenty big, but if I had one bad thing to say it would be that they could put in new mattressess. Mine was too soft and it made it a bit of a struggle to get to sleep quickly and wake up feeling rested. But whatevs- looking at the bigger picture, staying at the Castle Inn was economically sound, is within great proximity to adjacent neighborhoods and felt safe to stay at. Did I mention they were friendly? I'd stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Close to Cable Cars to Fishermans Wharf"
Castle Inn was an easy walk to Fisherman's Wharf or was two blocks from the Hyde Cable Car. The hotel is older so it could use some renovation but the neighborhood was safe and the desk clerk very helpful in letting two single girls know which neighborhoods to avoid after dark. "Don't Do It!!"
I suppose in comparison to other places in San Francisco, this probably looks like a good place, but looks are deceiving! When I got to my room, the coffee maker was scummy with water and a bug left in it and the telephone didn't work. I was moved to a different room where the refrigerator broke down sometime during my stay, destroying very expensive […] medication that needed refrigeration. When I mentioned this to the manager, he said "Well I didn't tell you to put it in there!" Just don't do it people! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Big plus was that parking was included in the rate . Convenient to bus system and within walking distance of sites such as Lombard Street. Breakfast was basic, yogurt and packaged snacks. Desk staff was very helpful. Always felt safe in the neighborhood.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel is older and more run down than I thought it would be, but the bed was very comfortable. We were only there for one night and left early so it met our needs. It was noisy because of it's location. Near the night life if that's what you want, then that's a plus.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
