My main complaint....no phone in the room and no reception for TMobile in my room. Felt very cut off as a result. Room was clean, altho carpet was stained. A plus....nice breakfast basket delivered to room each day.

The Carmel Resort Inn could be a beautiful place with a lot of work. It was great to be away from everything and have your own little cottage. But it is a old hotel. Breakfast being brought to you in the morning was a nice treat.

This was a nice place to stay overall the experience was enjoyable. We had a couple concerns but not major. Although my shower in the morning when other rooms also were using the showers the water would go completely cold and then warm again. We noticed a smell of urine in the bathroom after we noticed the toilet leaked when it was flushed which is […] a minor maintenance issue, I informed the staff and am confident it was repaired. They did not have a Do Not Disturb sign for your door, which means room service is going in unless you call them and let them know. The other thing was that they did not leave an extra roll of toilet paper and we ran out and had to call for more. Last thing was their breakfast was ok but not only was it insufficient one day you get more the next maybe less. Not a real great variety, you'll most likely have to go buy your own. It is a little ways away from the main area but we didnt mind the excercise so for us it was no problem, a nice walk. We would stay here again as my wife and I thought it was clean and a good value compared to many others. The great thing is they accept pets also. We definitely enjoyed our stay for the most part. Stayed in a 2br Queen room which was nicely laid out with two private rooms and a common area dividing them. The hotel is a little more dated and could use a little TLC (e.g. only functioning light in the bathroom was a red heat lamp), but overall it was comfortable. As other reviewers mentioned, it can get a bit chilly at night as the only source of […] heat is the gas fireplace in the common area. However between leaving the bedroom door cracked and the blankets, it was perfectly comfortable sleeping conditions. The staff was also nice enough to let us leave the car with them when we arrived early in the day and explore the town before checking in later at night. I LOVE this hotel. I will be sure to return. I fell in love with Carmel and the Carmel resort inn had a big part in this love match. We ate at Roy's in Pebble Beach, only ten minutes away and exquisit! The room was big and spacious and the fire place was the best touch. The bed was extremely comfortable! Also, the breakfast brought to you in the morning […] was perfect. The neighborhood is quaint and charming! Quiet and lovely especially since I'm from Pennsylvania and grew up in the woods. All I can say is "disappointing". Felt like I was in a cheap apartment. Out side is very quaint and cute but rooms feel dirty and dingy. Staff was very nice. The outside and location is what it has going for it.

It was fine. The house keeper had left coffee grounds in the coffee maker and the room was pretty cold. The desk clerk brought us another heater. The walls needed to be painted as they were chipped and dirty. Furniture was dated. In the morning we were brought a breakfast basket. It was very nice. We loved the room, the comfortable bed and the fireplace! The shower was a little old and not working well, but that's really the only negative. Very quiet and quaint. Desk clerk was very nice. We liked the breakfast served in the room (though it didn't come on our last day, maybe that's how they do it.)

The idea of this place is great. It is within walking distance to the ocean and lots of restaurants. It rained one of the nights that we stayed. The ceiling dripped water on the bed starting at 2am. When I booked the room I was thrilled to find a reasonably priced option for staying in Carmel. I needed a place for me, my new baby and mother to stay. I assumed we'd have one large room but in a free standing buildling, so that it could called a cabin. Boy was I surprised to find that we had a living room and two bedrooms! The accomodations were much […] better than I expected for the price. My mother an I both found the beds quite comfortable. The cottage was quaint and we enjoyed having a fireplace in the main room. The walk to town was very enjoyable - although I will say that after a day wandering downtown, pushing the stroller up hill did tire me out. We very much enjoyed the morning breakfast basket delivery. . We have told our friends and family as we were so impressed with the place. We will be back. We chose this hotel because it was less than half the cost of any other place in Carmel itself and we wanted to stay in town. It is quite a few individual cottages, charming upon arrival, on the edge of town. It is right next to a main road so the traffic was pretty constant. The rooms had been cleaned but are very old and run down. Breakfast was a […] nice plus--fruit, muffins, yogurt and juice delivered to our door each morning (coffee in room was much appreciated.) The morning we left there was a huge bug crawling across the floor, but I hear warmer climates always have trouble w/ bugs. One thing that could have helped was an exhaust fan in the bathroom because one shower filled the whole room w/ steam. nice cottage in a quiet location & a good, healthy walk into town (downhill) & back (uphill). Breakfast could have been delivered earlier (it arrived after we had gone for breakfast). And the carpet could have been a bit cleaner. It is dog friendly but we didn't have our dogs! We will stay there again. It was perfect for us.

This place: no customer service, a guy named Christian who staffs the front desk who does not know how to do even the smallest portion of his job, and moreover, he totally doesn't care that you think he sucks. We wanted very badly to succumb to the retro charm of our dingy, two-bedroom cottage with kitchen […] and bathroom and living room, and treat it as a fun family adventure, but then our toilet broke the first morning we were there, and when we walked outside, two drainage holes in the driveway outside of our cottage were spewing dirty water, raw sewage, and toilet paper. The cottage was clean and basic. The best part was the location, close to the downtown area of carmel.The service could have been better. I was told that earliest we could check in was 2:30. We got there around 2:20 hoping that our room might be ready. It was no where near ready and were told to come back in 10 min. We went back after 10 mins and still […] the room was not ready. We needed to be at a wedding by 3:00 and wanted to drop off our stuff. We were able to leave our stuff in the room even though there was a woman still cleaning our room. First of all, and in fairness to the hotel, it's important to note that it's old and was built with traditional Carmel building methods -- battens and boards, no insulation. Combined with the Carmel climate (foggy mornings and evenings), that means this place is COLD! There was a thermostat, but it didn't seem to activate anything, and the only source […] of heat was a fireplace or the heat lamp in the bathroom. Wear a sweater. Also, the layout of the cabins is pretty funky, like they weren't designed to have kitchens or full bathrooms although those were added later. Not a big deal, I suppose, but it doesn't result in the best layout -- e.g. the wash basin is in the kitchenette, not in the bathroom with the tub and toilet. Staff were friendly and capable, really nice people. Overall, though, this place could use a bit of capital investment to become worthy of Carmel-By-The-Sea. Next time, I'll pay a little more for something more comfortable and warmer. Read more

I would give this place 5 stars but the walls are super thin. We could hear the people next door and the cars in the lot and on the road. It wasn't so busy that the noise was bad but it was like being in a tent. Other then that it's close to the main drag/beach the pet policy was fine and the place was clean.

We enjoyed the continental breakfast delivered to our door each morning as it made it easier to get out and about more quickly (we were mostly hiking while in the area). The location is good, but not great because it isn't great for walking into downtown Carmel. It's not far, but there […] are no sidewalks on most of the blocks in between the hotel and downtown, which makes for an uncomfortable walk, especially at night (there are very few street lights). The cottage was wonderful, but the best was a breakfast delivered to our room. It consisted of 2 muffins, 2 crouisants, 2 yogurts, 2 pieces of fruit, and 2 cans of fruit juice. We brewed freah coffee in our room and enjoyed a breakfast at our own time and pace. It was great!

The gas fireplace is the only heating for the entire place. We went in August and still that wasn't enough heat. Going to the bathroom in the middle of the night was bad--heater on the other side of the "cottage." While these are called cottages, I'd say they're rustic enough to be called cabins. Each is divided into two, so there's someone on the other […] side; still, it was quieter than most hotels. The bathroom was in desperate need of renovation, and the comforter, shams and carpeting were spotted. These things made me unable to decide if the place was dirty or just unable to look clean.
