I enjoyed my stay and I would do it again. It was relaxing and worth thr money.Genuine Expedia guest review
I came in super tired from a long long day and I couldn't have been more pleased with the lady at the front desk and when I walked into my room. The bed was super comfortable, they had a list of stations right by the tv, the bathroom very clean and was stocked with usuals and more and had excellent fluffy towels, and then I was even able to get some […] work done using the complementary wifi! The only thing that might bother people was the night club next door. You couldn't see anything but you could hear the thump thump of the music. However, this did stop around 1 or 2am so for those who stay up late, not really a problem and for those who this would bother, based on my experience, the front desk would probably have ear plugs for you! Also, the free Star Shuttle stops right around the corner so you can pretty much get anywhere downtown for free. Super awesome experience. I was super pleased. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Run down and unprofessional"
The front desk is not properly staffed, if at all. I had to wait an unreasonably long time to ask a simple question - oh, and I would have called down instead of appearing in the lobby if my phone had worked. I also couldn't get online, though I was promised free wi-fi. The hotel is pretty run-down overall. If you have another option, I would stay […] there! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

So, I arrive at 8pm and there is a gang tyoe guy in the lobby trying to rent a room with cash. The hotek dies nit take cash and the two people at the desk are reachiing into thier jeans for change. The first room was dirty, the second room had limited working lights. The third room was OK, very small but at least it was clean. The third floor hallway […] had no carpets and it looked like the "renovations" had come to a standstill. The lobby was dirty as well. Needless to say, I would never go back. Good Hotel for business stayGenuine Expedia guest review
When we arrived, the room we entered had no drapes, no telephone and those were diiscovered after we hung up our clothes and put away our drawer items. They changed our room. We did not know that we were only 1 block from our client destination. We asked the desk where the address for our client was. They said they would drive us. They took us on a […] curcuitous drive around Hartford making it seem like we were a mile away. Only after the first day did we learn that one building stood blocking our view from our clients bldg. I enjoyed my stay here. The room was clean, comfortable, and, despite what other reviewers have noted, quiet. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The complementary breakfast included biscuits, sausage patties, eggs, bagels, cream cheese, orange juice, cereal, and so forth. Only cons I can note were a used hand towel left in the bathroom - […] housekeeping must have not seen it, and the blowdryer in the bathroom didn't work (the plug looked to be fried) but I had packed my own. I enjoyed being able to walk to restaurants downtown, and appreciated the convenience to the train station, where cabs aplenty can also be found. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Holiday Inn Express downtown Hartford, CT."
I can't help but compare it to the Hampton Inn I stayed in recently in downtown Baltimore, and paid approx. the same rate. HIE does not even compare....over-proced, one out of two elevators did not work and was very slow and crowded. Staff somewhat ambivalent. No fresh fruit at bkfst. Was accosted by a fairly aggressive panhandler in first five minutes, […] just outside the hotel. Older hotel that badly needs refurb. Just ok..... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"might only be a couple steps up from a cheap motel"
I would've switched hotels if I weren't pressed for time. The lobby was not air-conditioned and only one of the two elevators was functional, but even that was horribly slow. I chose to walk up and down 7 flights of a narrow staircase to get to/from my room (I needed the exercise anyway). The lobby's faux marble counter looked like it hadn't been cleaned […] in days (oily finger prints galore). While signing my paperwork, I was praying I brought hand sanitizer. The room cleanliness was a pleasant surprise, but the bathroom was disappointing: a tiny shelf to place your toiletries. The mattress was too firm and "coily" for my taste. There's no free parking unless you're a "Priority Club Member". The tiny lower-level garage is sketchy (and relatively expensive). The membership also gets you a complimentary snack and bottle of water. At night, there's a lot of traffic in the front of the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Holiday Inn Express - Hartford"
Not a bad place to stay if you are doing something in the area and are just looking for an affordable place to put your head. The neighborhood was a little sketchy - it is right next to a bus station and there were defintitely some seedy characters around. We had some issues with our bathroom light not turning on - it had a really strange switch, […] I've never seen one like it, and at one point we couldn't get it to turn on at all. Hotel staff was nice enough to give us free parking as a result. Room was clean enough - nothing spectacular but nothing bad either. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Holiday Inn Express Hartford-Downtown"
At the time of the check-in, they did not realize that I was staying at the hotel, so they did not have a key-card ready for my room. My room was located at the bad side of the view, right next to the ice-vendor machine, so every time someone was getting an ice, can hear the rumbling sound of ice falling down. At night, there is a bar located right […] behind the hotel, loud music will kept me up at night. The curtains doesn't move, stuck with the light coming in from the bar. The next day, after coming back from work, none of my key-cards worked. I couldn't get into my room. Had to go back to the front desk, and asked why my card is not working. I think the man at the front-desk did not even check how long I was staying at the hotel, so he only had the key-card valid for the first day. I realized that when he asked when I was checking out. Unprofessional service. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Bed not comfortable, and No extra pillows"
We picked this hotel because it was within walking distance from the Amtrack- it is literally right around the corner. The workers were very friendly and check in was quick. However, the bed was very uncomfortable- I could feel every spring in the bed. We called down for extra pillows and we were informed that they did not have any more. The pillows […] we were given looked they had been through the washing machine too many times- they were crumbly. The pillow cases were marked "firm" and "soft" however, they were all crumbly. The bathroom was very tiny. It had a pedestal sink so it was hard to do my makeup because there wasn't much room to put things. Also, the one outlet was on the opposite side of the room from the mirror (it's a small bathroom, but still the cord was then laying across the room). I don't think this hotel is worth the price. "Super friendly staff, very clean room, great linens"
06/29/14 kyle6beth Cranston, Rhode Island
From the moment we stepped into the lobby my daughter and I felt welcomed and comfortable. Lisa at the front desk was so friendly and fun, and willing to do anything to make our stay a pleasant experience. The bed linens are great, and the room was very comfortable, The complimentary breakfast in the morning was just right, with more friendly staffers ready to help us! The view of the park across the street was very pretty. I would definitely stay here again. Thanks, Lisa!
"Central Location, Average Hotel"
06/27/14 FlyGuy47 Saint Paul, Minnesota
This HI Express is centrally located in downtown Hartford, just across the street from the park grounds in front of the state capitol. Rooms on the park side of the hotel have a nice view of the building and the park. Other than location, this is a fairly average place, though basically functional. My room was pretty small with a few things lacking - bathroom fixtures cracked, tub drain that was disconnected, no bedside lamp on one side of the bed, no chair to sit in other than the desk chair, etc. The $180 price tag is on the high side for a hotel like this, but I suppose you're paying for location. On the "plus" side, it did have a fridge and a microwave, though I never found a store close by where you could buy anything to refrigerate or heat up. Breakfast was the standard HI Express fare - prefabricated eggs, sausage, pastries, cereal - but they hadn't run out of anything so it was better than many. One other thing... it's a $45 taxi ride (plus tip) from Bradley Airport. On two occasions (both when I called the hotel before my trip and when I checked in), I asked about alternative transportation. They said taxi was the only way to go. After my stay, I learned that the city bus runs hourly from the airport to/from Union Station, which is right across the street from this hotel. You have to deal with your own luggage on/off the bus, but you can't beat the cost... $1.50. Somebody at this hotel should be telling potential guests about that; it's an advantage for them and it's not even listed on their website!
"What a view"
06/25/14 bettysmate SUSSEX, ENGLAND
We stopped here for two nights on our way up to Boston. It is a typical City Centre Hotel but parking is available on the premises at a charge. Free WiFi was good. My rason for choosing this hotel was the view of the Capitol building from the upper rooms. (ask for a room at the front facing the Park) The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was as usual for a Holiday Inn and coffee was available in the breakfast area most of the day. All in all I was satisfied with everything and the Capitol was a bonus. Get a tour if you can, it is a magnificent building.
"A Very Good Stay!""
06/02/14 Susanne M Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania
I stayed here for one night this past weekend and was very impressed. I was greeted by Lisa at the front desk and she was welcoming and very informative. My room was spacious and very clean with many amenities. It was so quiet and what a treat it was to have a view of the beautiful park surrounding the state capital building. I was in Hartford for a concert with the symphony orchestra and Gerard at the front desk tried his best to get me a cab. After a thirty minute wait, he suggested I walk a block and try for one in front of Union Station. Thanks to him, I made it to the concert on time. I will definitely stay here the next time I'm in Hartford!
"Great location but hotel is old"
05/07/14 twill504 Oakland, California
I stayed here for business since my usual spots in downtown Hartford, the Marriott or the Hilton were sold out. First the good - hotel is located in a good spot to walk to restaurants, train station, park is across the street and good for an evening jog. Also, the front desk staff is friendly and pretty helpful. Now for the bad - this place is OLD and in desperate need of an upgrade. Carpets in the room are ripped and dirty looking, bathrooms have the dormitory style toilets, and the linens have seen better days. The upside of my room was the view of Bushnell park and the capital, but the flipside was that I could hear traffic (buses etc) all night. The floors are also thin, sounded like the people above me were river dancing over my head. The fitness center was okay for me, 2 treadmills, 1 bike, and an elliptical that didn't seem to work, as well as free weights. I didn't try the breakfast but it had the basic options - cereal, yogurt, eggs, bacon. All in all there are better options in downtown Hartford, but you will pay for them. If this place would renovate like most of the other HIE I have stayed at it would be great.
"Disappointed with this hotel"
04/15/14 traser2001 Marlboro, New Jersey
This is an older Holiday Inn Express. I was checked into a accessible room although I am a Platinum member and has no disabilities. The Internet connection does not work with my company VPN, so I was not able to get any work done. This has never happened to me on 4 years of global travel using this VPN. The room had a bit of musty smell and the carpets look old and not too clean. The heat system it analog and very loud that you can not be on the phone or hear the TV. An older place that I am surprised is still a Holiday Inn Express. The only positive was the friendly check in.

I had a lovely but short visit to this hotel this past Sunday, 3/9/14. I arrived quite early (11:30am) and room wasn't ready, as they had a full house the previous night. Went to the restaurant next door. When I returned, still had a short wait. Karen the receptionist was just so friendly and considerate. We had a short conversation, and she promised me a fine room. Well, when I went to my room (908), and opened the door-- great view of the State capital, and park below. The room had a kingsize bed, and very clean and bright. The bathroom is a little small, but very clean and loads of towels. After attending the Bushnell Theatre nearby, it was about 9:30 pm, and was very hungry, as lunch was at noon . Gerard, the receptionist in the evening, showed me some menus from varied restaurants who deliver to the hotel. Gerard called a restaurant and tried to place order, but there is a $15 min. so I suggested Gerard have a sandwich too, young men are always hungry. Well, within 20 minutes, my delivery fellow knocked at my door with a fine meal. The staff at this hotel are VERY kind and friendly. I was made to feel comfortable. Any questions were readily answered. A complimentary breakfast is available. It is o.k. yogurt, cereals are there, along with sausage, eggs. First time I ever saw an automatic pancake maker--- i skipped that. Lots of coffee, tea, etc. Nice experience at this hotel. A great convenience is the Union Station is just across the parking lot. As I always travel Amtrak, this was great.
"Not normal HIE Standards"
02/25/14 HendersonCMC Henderson, Nevada
I usually stay at Holiday Inn Express for business and personal travels because I like the consistency and although prices are constantly rising, still a good value. Had business in downtown Hartford, CT, so opted for this hotel. Room was clean and acceptable, location was ideal for me. But some issues led me to review this hotel and not give it my usually 5 star for HIE's across the country. First, this is a downtown hotel, so some issues can be expected, but that causes this hotel to not meet my usual expectations. First, parking is $16/night. OK, downtown hotel, so parking not free like most HIE's, but $16/night is very high for hotel parking in a city other than NYC. Room was fine but closet was so narrow (depth) that could not close the closet sliding doors with my clothes hanging up. Bathroom was tiny with virtually no place to put my toiletries conveniently. Finally, and ironically, completely unexpected, no USA Today in the morning. They simply don't provide a morning paper at this location. For most hotels this would be very picky but I have become used to consistency at HIE and thus, my loyalty, so this was a disappointment.
"Great location, OK hotel"
01/23/14 james2n Boston
The hotel is right off I84 exit 48 and has great access. It is also has a great view from the breakfast room of the state house. The rooms are in good condition, the fixtures a little old, the floors / ceilings a little 'thin' - you can hear guests walking in the rooms above you. Breakfast is included and OK, nothing special. The workout room is rather small. Parking is out the back and is extra (currently $16/night). No noise issue overnight despite being very close to the railroad.
"Friendly Staff, Great Location but..."
12/28/13 Ers22 Weymouth, Massachusetts
The hotel is in a great location... the view from the room (9th floor) was actually really nice... it faced the park - and, with the christmas lights, it had a different view... The front desk staff (the PM GSA & AM GSA the next morning - same person) was very friendly... so, was the night auditor. (12/20-12-21) Housekeeping and Engineering left a lot to desire... the room had a funny smell (not fresh!), the beds were made - but, they looked like someone had just pulled the linen and never changed them... the pillows were just thrown on top of the bed - not neatly placed... the bathroom hadn't seen bleach in a very long time... Broken: all lamps, the tub stopper, etc... elevators were dirty and never vacuumed... The location is great... You do get complimentary breakfast at this hotel - I never used it... Internet (wifi or wired) was fast... I would probably stay again... but, request to have someone re-make my bed with fresh linen and clean the bathroom in my presence... I guess I can manage to make it through with all the broken things... not a big deal!
