"OK for a cut rate place near Waikiki Beach"
The hotel is run down (i.e. holes in the bedspread, tears and stains in the carpet, etc.), but it is in a relatively good location. The walk to the center of Waikiki Beach is less than a mile, and very pleasant (lots of parks, shops and restaurants on the way). There are additional charges for parking and internet. The pool is adequate, and the pool […] towels are good. There is a great bar downstairs (King's Pub) with very good beer specials. The sundry store and little Japanese food take out are also good. I didn't get to sample the restaurant (Cream Pot), but it looked good. The front desk is supposed to be staffed 24/7, but there were a number of times we could not get anyone there. Overall, it was not bad. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Close to shops and the beach."
Got there early, however, they wouldn't let us check in until 3. Got to our room and there was still someone cleaning the room. The shower didn't turn off all the way and the toilet kept breaking. Our room was never cleaned in the 5 day period we were there. Cheap hotel, but will definitely fork out more money next time to stay at a better hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"No frills, but clean & friendly."
We felt very welcome by the staff, who even helped us procure ice for a sore ankle, though one of the missing hotel amenities was ice machines. The hotel is in a shared-use building, with a handful of floors devoted to the hotel. The room was old, but clean, a tiny bathroom and mini tub/shower. Stay here for the convenience and for your budget, it's […] in Waikiki, on the canal, away from noise, and just a few blocks from the beach and great Japanese food. If you can get a south-facing room, 18th floor or higher, you'll be able to see Diamond Head, and possibly the ocean. Amenities: in-room safe, TV, mini fridge, coffee maker, iron, hairdryer. Lacking: lobby lounge space, ice machines, frills. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Im not a picky traveler, but I paid to much ...."
check-in was easy enough, room shower had issues with inconsistent hot/cold temp, one night I seen a bug outside the doorway threshold, when i asked to have a courtesy late check out male I spoke to was not accommodating, but rather direct to the point and callus. they were conducting construction at my time of stay, before you make reservation call […] to see if it is still the condition, and perhaps consider another site. walls are thin, and a good night sleep will not be had. This hotel is a bit run down and the neighborhood across street is bad...however it is not far to walk to Ala Moana mall, convention center or Hilton Village/Waikiki. Room was small and aging but the bed & shower were clean so it worked for a one night stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
THE HOTEL SMELLEDGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"I would recommend if you are looking for basic"
The area was great, and for the price, I guess, the hotel was good. We expected AC not to be noisy window unit. Our room could have used a little cosmetic fix up and cleaning (i.e. door dirty around handle) beds a little hard, and paying $16 daily for parking was a good price we found later, but we still grumbled at the time. So I would recommend if […] you aren't looking for anything fancy, very basic. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
my stay was very impression, i love the view we had from the room. The location was a bonus. will i stay there again and the answer will be yes.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I liked this hotel for several reasons. Most important to me was the location. It was very convenient to shopping and the beach. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The room was comfortable, a good size for my needs with a frig, microwave and coffee maker.Genuine Expedia guest review
"View Great. Parking the Pits"
The window AC unit was not fitted properly in the cutout opening. The outside air was leaking into the room because the bottom of the unit was not sealed and there was about a 1/2 inch opening along the bottom edge of the unit. The hotel maintenance person stuffed a 20-24 inch sponge like material to plug the opening but it was still leaking altough […] not as much without the "fix". The view of the Aa Wai canal was very good because you looked down on the Canoe Clubs practicing and the baseball and soccer teams playing in the fields adjacent to the canal. The $16.00 a day parking was a nightmare since we were at the hotel for 14 days. No reduced rate available for extended stay at the hotel. Coffee was free only for the first night. No bed/pillow sweet chocolate or cookie. Sticky knobs remote switches should be cleaned. Nightly sirens a problem. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"OK hotel, nothing more, nothing less."
Good location. A bit run-down. Small beds. Plus for new towels every day, even though some of them had mysterious stains. Nice and quite helpful staff.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Vacation stay on a budget."
If you are vacationing on a budget and your plan is to be out and about all day and only coming back to the room to sleep, this is the place to stay. You definitely get what you pay for. We asked for a crib twice and did not receive it. The tub was a bit dirty. Other than that, it was a great place to stay on a small budget. Within walking distance […] to the sights and sounds of the city. ***The parking garage is a joke. It's not run by the hotel. Avoid it if you can. It's $16 a night to park there but you have to show your room key before parking. No clear signage stating that you must check in prior to parking your car. Once we were checked in I asked the parking attendant if it was $16 for each night since we were not moving the car again until check out. She said "no". Of course after we checked out and were leaving, they demanded the rest of the parking fees for our stay. The manager and garage attendant were unprofessional. If you can avoid parking there...I would. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"The hotel near the canal"
It's a little private hotel with lots of convenient stores within the surrounding areas. 21/2-3 Stars. Price was reasonable & front desk agents were hospitable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"happy helpful staff"
This is not a luxury hotel but, the staff was great and it is a good place to spend the nightGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The management of this hotel need to look within its staff, amenities, hotel condition and their advertisement in regards to internet accessibility. At check in, I was greeted by a hotel staff. The problem started when the key card I was given does not work properly. I could not use the elevator as it needed your room key before it operates. I was given […] 5 different keys and a hotel staff to help me open my door to my room. One of the elevator I used stopped at the 18th floor and would not go up or down. Internet access is in the bar on the bottom floor of the hotel lobby. The hotel does not have internet access. Very poor customer service. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old place, but cheap."
The staff helped us a lot when we had issues with our bags and shuttles. The hotel itself is a bit run-down and could benefit from a facelift (paint, replace fixtures, update appliances). Our room was small. The TV remote was bigger than the TV.Genuine Expedia guest review
Transportation here is convenient, close to everything. Don't stay here if you want a luxury room.Genuine Expedia guest review
"hawaian monarch hotel"
It was a decent hotel. I just liked the price. They don't clean well. There was coffee bag in coffee maker for 3 days. Nobody cleaned it.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hawaiian Monarch Hotel"
This hotel was okay and the staff was friendly and supportive of my needs. I was impressed. The price was a bit high i thought for what I provided with, but regardless I would stay here again if I had no other option as far as a last minute decision. The location was okay, just on the outskirts of Waikiki, still okay though, i had no complaints there. […] Hotel staff was friendly and attended to my room on a timely manner. On my last day there, I was late with checking out, and the hotel staff were sensitive with me taking the time to check out. My hotel door didn't have any other type of security lock (bolt lock, chain lock, etc.) besides the one that comes with the handle. (I guess that's a bolt lock, but a chain lock would have been nice and made me feel a bit more secure). On my last day there, with the mix up of the time to check out, the "bell man?" came up to the room and he said, "I was told it was empty" opened my door by accident. There could have been embarrassing moment if i were to be in a "delicate" situation as he just walked it, again, he was under the assumption that I wasn't in the room at the time and that it was empty. I had no harsh feelings towards him and he apologized. My phone in my room didn't work, though it was "hooked up", and that was the cause for the mix up in the first place. Overall, this was an okay room, a bit out of range from being in the heart of Waikiki, but I liked it and would stay here again, (being a single guy) and with the outlook that it's just a room, and not looking for a 4 star place to spend my whole day in. "Where Everybody Knows Your Name"
While not a new or fancy hotel, the Monarch is always our first choice in Waikiki for the value offered, but most of all, for the people. It started when Josh checked me in and recognized me from past visits. It continued with Rose in Parking, who recognized me and said, "Welcome Home!" When Arlene came to clean the room and I opened the door, I was […] greeted with "You're back!" And when I was ready to check out, Kori helped me to arrange a late check-out even though the hotel was full. I can't imagine a friendlier hotel anywhere! It's truly a home away from home! "Will never stay again :/"
Wil not stay again! Room was very small. Dressers did not fit in the room. Parking was a PAIN! I had to pay $16 a day to park!! (and I stayed well over a week) Overall I was not happy there and did not feel safe.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Won't go back..."
Walls are VERY thin - you can hear room next door. Loud music woke us at 4:30 AM. Called front desk and complained and they sent security to have them turn music down. Music still so loud could not sleep and they stated that can not tell them to turn off music since they could not hear it in the hall way - even though it could be heard in our room - […] told them that would be fine if I slept in the hallway - and it was 5:00 AM!!!! "Decent but nothing amazing"
This hotel was alright, but didn't blow me away. I went to the front desk to check in, and no one was there. I waited a few minutes, then had to call out a number of times before someone came. When the front desk person finally helped me, she was fine, not too friendly, but not rude. The room was fine, too--nothing exceptional, but perfectly adequate. "A little outdated, needs lots of repairs."
The first room I was in had an air conditioner that leaked, then there was a leak in the ceiling that resulted in dripping and plaster falling from the ceiling. The tv and microwave shorted out when I tried to use both at the same time. When I called about the leak they promptly gave us a much nicer room. Parking is expensive and the pool was shut down […] for maintenancethe entire 5 days I was there. There is no hot tub at all. Kings pub down stairs was great. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hawiian Monarch - Honolulu"
The bedspread was ripped and soiled. The mattress was sinking in the middle. The room was filthy. The bathtub was painted.....should have been replaced. We were bitten by bugs when we slept. When we left, there was another couple that were leaving because of the critters in their room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Although Hawaiian Monarch is not the most modern with tons of amenities, if you are looking to spend your time and money out and about seeing this beautiful island, it would be a good fit. The staff is wonderful, very helpful, and knowledgeable. If you have a car, it does cost to park, but it is a separate company and takes cash only.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Lower your expectations"
The King Pub downstairs has great pizza and 1 dollar beer from 5-6pm. The Scooter rentals there are 40% higher than the guy down the street. The hotel room and elevator keys don't work properly having to replace daily. The TV sucked. The AC was so lound and old that it needed to be off to sleep. The plumbing worked poorly. Everything was old. expensive […] parking and no street parking. Wanted to charge me for a late check out. local residence live in this hotel and were unpleasant. Unfriendly street out front. "Good quality budget hotel"
I would love to see it when it is renovated--- esp since the pool was closed during my stay!Genuine Expedia guest review
Overall the hotel has all the minimum comforts that you expect of a hotel in a very popular place. "Hawaii's best hotel for the Hawaiians"
We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The parking was excellent and had spaces to park into in the garage. However, to check in, we had to hurry because parking was limited in front of the hotel with moped rentals. That was a hassle, but I guess the hotel had to diversify. The room was excellent, with the location and services. It is a well secured hotel […] 'cause you need your hotel key to utilize the elevator and back door. Great place, great hotel. One thing that I felt was not clear was that parking is not included. Parking cost an additional $16 per night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My bf & I stayed for a week. Hotel staff were very nice. The room was ok. We weren't expecting too much. We chose it because the price was very affordable. I am the kind of person that's very picky with the cleanliness of the room but we were barely in the room so it was fine with me. But, I still did my own disinfecting. LOL! For the entire week that […] we were there, we walked every night down the Kalakaua Avenue. Make sure to bring comfortable shoes/slippers because it's a long walk. But over all you will love Hawaii!! "Friendly staff dont match with the ugly hotel"
everyone was absolutely friendly. Room service was fast to help. But the room itself was too small the bed was stiff and i woke up sore evey mornng. The bath tup had a how in it with a small patch to cover it. and too much loud construction gong on the whole trip we stayed. The friendly staff deserve to work at a nicer hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review

Great location to convention center. Good value for money. Staff were helpful and friendly. The Ice machine needs fixing.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"for the price, okay"
The air conditioner in the room really needed replacing. It didn't really cool off the room. The filter hadn't been cleaned in who knows how long. The room was good sized and had a refrigerator and microwave in the room. I would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
AC didn't work very well but was ok for an overnight stay. Not many stores or restaurants around the area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good just for place to sleep"
Not a resort, by any means. However, if you are looking for a cheap place just to bed down during a visit to Honolulu, this hotel is adequate. People are nice, and its located in the middle of town. Parking however is expensive, about 16 bucks a day.Genuine Expedia guest review
"You get what you pay for"
The staff of this hotel was awesome!! They were all very helpful and nice. The hotel itself was a bit run down but we did not expect much due to its economical price. They have security card to use the elevators since the lobby is open air, which we later came to appreciate due to some seedy characters hanging around the area. The hotel is on the farthest […] edge of Waikiki, and is def. not in the nicest part, but again you get what you pay for. The Hilton Hawaiian Village is a very short walk, and just beyond that is a very beautiful and clean beach, so the proximity to that made it great. You are really staying just outside of the beautiful parts where all the action is....but we didn't spend much time at our hotel, so it worked out. There was a fridge, microwave, iron, & hairdryer.....but no alarm clock, which really sucked because, my cell phone lost all reception on the island. We later found a way to set the clock on the microwave, but it just was a hassle not to have clock, which i thought would be a pretty standard item. The beds were quite hard and uncomfortable. The view from our room was quite pretty (aside from a boarded up window right across from us) and looked toward the city. There is a parking garage and the pool sits on top of it.
