"Not really a hotel"
when a high-rise has 50 hotel rooms and 350 + condo units it is not really set up to be a hotel - at least not this building. Awful bed; sheets as thin as anything and n in-windwo A/C that could not cool the room properly. When I asked about ice, I was told the machine broke a while ago and has not been replaced - you have to take a cup and go down […] the the bar and ask nicely for some....really. I know I wasn't spending Ritz Carlton prices but this was shabbier than a motel 6. Very disappointing Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Key card issues"
Other than the key card readers in the elevators and your room door the hotel was very nice. Having to insert the key as many as 40 times before it actually worked was a pain. Invest some money and fix the readers or whatever is not working.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hawaii is beautiful ,but when we open our hotel room we can't not believed it ,was almost like a jail room ,the bed was so small the mattress so old and duty carpet! we refused to take the room and start looking for another hotel room, the manager gave us a different room little bid better, but; not much! loved the view!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very good price considering its location, very friendly staff. Good for budget travellersGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"It was not too bad."
Things were fine. I wasn't quite happy to have to pay 20$ per day for parking. There was no fitness center. The room was clean, but bed kind of stiff.Genuine Expedia guest review
"It's a one nighter"
This hotel was good for a night or two if your passing through. The bathroom was really small and the shower didn't work that well but was adequate. Carpet in the hall ways is outdated and smells. The bed was comfortable for the night but then I was tired. It was bigger and nicer than the hotel I stayed at in Tokyo. Easy in and out of Waikiki area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Grossest Hotel Ever!"
When we showed up at this hotel we were told it was full. (even though we had already booked and paid through Expedia) When I showed the check-in girl our reservation # she said "oh". Then she gave us a room key and sent us on our way. When we opened the door to our room the smell nearly knocked us over. The WORST puke/stinky cheese smell ever. It was […] so bad. We went back down to the desk and we were then told that this was our room and we couldn't switch to another room because they were full. I told the girl that I found it hard to believe that every single guest had checked in and all the rooms were currently occupied. I was livid. I told her I was going back to my room and calling Expedia and I was also going to put a bad review on here. (The first bad review I have ever given) I was on hold with Expedia when she rang our room and told us that magically a new room had appeared. This room wasn't perfect either, the carpet was FILTHY and the room was overall pretty dirty. We survived it and at least it didn't smell like a bucket of puke. I wouldn't stay here again even if it was free. No wi-fi (unless you want to hang out in the bar next door), unhelpful staff and dirty. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Close to Convention Center"
The hotel was very close to the convention center and a 20 minute walk from Waikiki Beach. I was there for 4 nights, only had coffee for the first morning and room service only appeared once (just to leave 2 new towels, dirty dishes remained). The TV did not work, and I requested a wake up call on two different days, which I never received.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Breakfast Makes Up for EVERYTHING"
This is an affordable hotel that is situated closely to the Hawaii Convention Center and other larger chain hotels (i.e. Hilton). The room was clean. The facility was decent. But the breakfast/brunch spot (Cream Pot Brunch Cafe) located in the hotel is AMAZING. My roommate and I ate there for three days in a row, trying nearly every delicious thing […] on the menu. It more than made up for the basic accommodations. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good room, good location, good price"
The hotel is located 10 minute walk from the beach and 10 minute walk from Ala Moana Mall. Good location. The price was the most reasonably priced. Almost half what others charged, good for a budget. The rooms were a little small and the carpet flooring a little older, but they were clean , and they offered 2 double beds not singles. The hotel had a […] nice pool on the fifth floor. "location in Waikiki area."
Considering the price paid, it was was a reasonable accommodation. The staff were very courteous and quite helpful, answered all our questions and infact arranged for transportation when we needed it quickly. I give them high rating for that. The security presence is also very very good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"business in town"
It was fine just the parking was expensive I mostly used the room to get cleaned up and rest for the night maybe if the cost of parking was cheaper I would tell my freinds and family to go stay at the hawaiian monarch hotel but over all I got to do what I came to honolulu to do mahalo and work on your parking cost aloha for now.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Convenience was ok room is old and small and needs remodelingGenuine Expedia guest review
This was an okay room with a nice view of the canal. The room was dated and needs some upgrades.. Also, you must pay to park nightly and it can be very expensive. No breakfast offered, free coffee only on first day, and there were no signs to point us to the pool or any other things in the hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel but ok service.."
I stayed here for a night and the receptionist was very gaurded for some reason...she kinda blew me off every time i tried to ask for something..not my first choice of staying but other then the staff it was a pleasant stay..Genuine Expedia guest review
This is a perfect example of "You get what you pay for". Yes, I will take full responsibility for trying to find a bargen. $16 a night for parking with no other alternitive. No Wi-Fi with out being charged. The hotel houses permanent residents and guests. The hotel is old with what seems to be the same since it opened. the only obvious update was the […] Flat screen TV. This is a great place to keep your luggage and sleep but you could do this at a Comfort Inn and not pay so much and you would have had free parking. Coffee for the coffee pot was free but only the first bag if you wanted more it would be an extra charge too. Again the little things could have made a huge diffrence for me. "Low on Style but Great Value"
I needed a good priced hotel for a night in Waikiki after coming off the plane. The Monarch isn't new by any stretch, and a bit dogeared in appearance, but the room was clean and comfortable, and the hotel's location was super convenient for a leisurely morning around town before heading on to our next location. Beds were surprisingly comfy for the […] overall age of the furnishings. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good location, less than stellar accomodations"

"Good Affordable Hotel"
The hotel was above our expectations. We got a cool city/ canal view, we didn't pay so much to stay there for a week, the room was pretty big and we liked the area, it definately felt safe. The distance from Waikiki beach was a little minus but not a big minus, still it is a 5-10 minute walk but that is ok. The hotel pool and pool deck seemed great […] even though we didn't go swimming. There was one day that the cleaners forgot to make our bed, and the hairdryers are low energy dryers so it takes like two hours to get your hair dry. I would pick the hotel if I came back though. People at front desk were nice and no neighbors bothered us. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beware of bedbug"
You get what you pay for. This hotel located close to waikiki in walking distance and affordable place. I am not expect anything special. I stayed there for 5 nights and the second day I was bited by something like bedbug ( i dont see any bedbug in my room) but from the wound is look like i was bited by bedbug. I told a lady at lobby that I wanted to […] get a new room. And she told me that she will sent a house keeper to reservh my room. House keeper went into my room for a couple mins and said there no bedbug here. So, i cant move to a new room. I have to stay in that room the rest of my trip with nightmare;( Besides that the bed is very old and carpet is wornout. I never go back there again even it cheaper than this. Only good for a place to sleep at night but a much better way to vacation if you're on that path would be to just camp on the north shore beaches.Genuine Expedia guest review

"poor rickety hotel"
Just cheap enough to stay for as couple of days. Conditions were awful. Bath tub peeling coated paint, ac that sounded like a 747 landing, dreary hallways. It was a motel at best. Try to avoid at all cost, but in a pinch, it works.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great for the price"
It was great for the price. It had tv,small fridge, iron. Location was great for the price just a walk away from all the major waikiki attractions and close to bus stops. It was a little dated and could use upgrade but that is prob the reason its so cheap. Great stay!Genuine Expedia guest review
"A tent would be better"
Very disappointing from the pool to the lobby to the rooms. The room with a king bed was very small. The carpet was filthy. We could smell cigarette smoke even though it was supposed to be a non-smoking hotel. No decent place to eat on the premises. The towels were small and very thin. One side of the bed did not have a night stand. The armoire was […] filthy inside. No business center to check emails. No valet service. The is a 2 star at best, not a 3 star hotel. It is close to Waikiki..couple of blocks. The worst part was hotel guests had to pay for parking. $16 a day...$96 for a week. Ouch! That was an expense we were not expecting and it is NOT mentioned on the Expedia site at all. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Here only becoz it was cheapest on late notice"
This place definitely needs a remodel, carpet worn and discolored, bathtub needed to be re-enameled and there were lots of rust spots on the bathroom floor,.paper thin walls. When I checked in,I had to call around the corner 'hello?',clerk was in a little office around the back of the front desk.Pluses,a microwave and mini fridge in roomGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very good for the price range"
This hotel is just fine for its price range. Very close to beaches, restaurants, shopping. Our view of the Ala Wai canal and Diamond Head was beautiful. The room and bathroom are tiny (so not meant to spend a lot of time in it with the family), but the shower has a good amount of water from the shower head and always lots of hot water. There was also […] good storage (closet and big dresser) and a drying line in the bathroom. No lanai. If you want to hook up to internet, call ahead, they only have 3 ether net devices to rent out. The beds and pillows are comfortable, the spreads and carpet are old, but clean enough. We had a good air conditioning unit in our room - not moldy smelling like in some hotel rooms in humid climates. There seemed to be plenty of parking available in the attached lot. I was a little worried about booking this hotel after reading some of the other reviews. They couldn't be more incorrect. All of the staff was wonderful and helpful. The hotel is a little dated, but it is extremely clean. The area is ideal - far enough away from the noise and crowds, but close enough to still enjoy. There are several restaraunts nearby […] - within a few minutes walk. Once again - the best part of the stay was the hotel staff. We stay in budget hotels because we don't spend alot of time in the hotel. The staff at this hotel was by far the most friendly and accommodating that we have encountered. If I could have gone above the five stars on rating the staff I would have. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Nice view. Couldn't open windows for fresh air, smoking and non smoking rooms on same floor. No voice mail for phones. I would not stay there again. Was a long walk to city bus stop.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"December 2012-Stay away....far away!"
December 2012- It would be more appropriate to sleep in a park down the street versus in this hotel. Great location however it is in in an apt building with many sketchy associates. Front desk employees were incredibly polite and helpful and the pool on the 6th floor was an asset. Unfortunately, the room was the worst room ever, stained blanket, broken […] bathroom door, gross toilet and I'm not typically picky at all so this says a lotttttttttttttttt. Choose a different low budget room if able to! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Fine cheap hotel"
This hotel was in no way fancy or luxurious, but the price was right. There was evidence of remodeling on lower floors, so it's possible that the dingy carpet and low blue lights are going away sometime soon. Our room was fine, and clean. The view of the city and the canals below was great. However, being so high up meant we heard the howling winds […] all night long. Also the walls were thin and we overheard some neighbor drama. "Hawaiian Monarch Hotel review for 10/27/12"
The staff was generous with their help, tsunami sirens blaring, I was safe up in the 15th floor (the wave was 4 extra inches in the harbor as far as I could tell) it was a fine place to have a cheap room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Best for people on a low budget."
The customer service guest: There was a young lady working the front the entire time of my stay. She was not unpleasant but not smiling nor welcoming. Also, I asked her once to hail a cab for a group of 7. They sent a cab that could only seat 6 so 2 of the people in our party had to wait for another cab which took another 30 mins. The elevators: They […] required a room key in order to go anywhere except the lobby. Seemed a bit tedious for the quality of hotel. The room: It was not spectacular. The floor was ok but I was not sure I wanted to walk on it bare foot. The beds did look clean and kept. The view was actually pretty nice of the water and local joggers below. The room did have a small fridge and microwave which was very practical. The bathroom was ok except for the bath/shower. The bath tub needed to be resurfaced (again unsure if I wanted to step in barefoot). The shower curtain did not seem to cover the entire tub very well. Overall, the hotel was not terrible but not impressive by any means. It will be satisfactory for those looking for the lowest possible cost and still be near Waikiki. Truly, you will be getting your moneys worth from this experience. One plus the hotel was well within walking distance of Cheeseburger in Paradise, Waikiki which I attended twice and loved both times. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Shower didn't have enough water pressure so I had a hard time. Carpet in the room looked very old and dirty so I was afraid to walk on my bare foot. It was nice to have a big fridge and microwave. Again, blinds around the windows were all dirty.Genuine Expedia guest review

If you are on a low budget, I recommend this hotel because the location is good enough but keep in mind how much you pay so you should not expect more.Genuine Expedia guest review
It was everything we were looking for in a hotel, somewhere clean to sleep. The beds were a little on the stiff side, but overall loved the hotel and the view we had. We'd stay here again. Staff was extremely friendly and made our stay more enjoyable. The only true negative would be parking. The hotel doesn't have its own garage and the one connected […] charges $16/day. We ended up finding a garage we could park at for free about 1/2 mile away that worked for us. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

i had called a day before to confirm my reservation, i was told early check in was an option because i had a baby. when i arrived to the hotel i was greeted by a gentelmen that was supposly new and i checked in around 1. he told me i would have to wait till 3 and i explained to him i called yesterday and they told me i could check in if rooms were avalible. […] so an hour i waited for him to figure out how to re-do the key for me and i was checked in to a room that was just gross, it still had food stuck in the mircowave and my room faced a hotel where another hotel was so close i couldnt leave my window open because the gentleman across from me could see in my room.....i was beyond dissapointed in the service and cleaniness of the room, i would not reccomend this place or ever stay here again.
