"Will never stay here again"
First let me start by saying we went for my daughters 7th birthday. We weren't allowed to check in until after 4 so we had to wait in the lobby with a 7 month old and 7 year old after driving 4 hours. The pool was closed also. That night the people in the room next to us were so loud at 12:30 am I called to front desk to ask someone to speak to them. […] I was told they were calling security. This continued until 4:30am when again I called down to front desk and was told again security would be called, was hung on and she was very rude and again nothing was done. I finally had to go over and ask them to quite down (which they gladly did). Then when checking out and waiting for valet we had to wait for 45 minutes in the pouring rain with a 7 month old sick child. "Good time at the Crowne Plaza"
My friend and I stayed at the Crowne Plaza from 8-21-14 through 8-24-14. We chose it because of the great location and good price. Reading other reviews had me a little worried, but we were very comfortable and pleased with the hotel. "In the middle of everything"
This Hotel is great. It's right on Bourbon street. Lot's of good restaurants in the area. The AC is weird. It has a sensor and only works if there are people in the room that move around. "Always room for improvement!"
I enjoyed this hotel but there are a few things the place could do to improve their ratings. For starters, would it kill the hotel to spend a few dollars to upgrade the furniture in the lobby??? The lobby is beautiful and the bar right off the lobby looks very luxurious, but the furniture looks like it came straight out of a thrift shop. No, I've actually […] seen better furniture in thrift shops. At least the furniture in thrift shops look clean. My hotel room was clean. My biggest complaint about the room is the lack of ventilation in the bathroom. After you take a shower the place steams up and the bathroom becomes unbearable until it clears up. I searched all over for a fan switch but could not locate one. The ancient coffee maker in the bathroom is a joke and need to be phased out. The mirror inside the bedroom needed replacement, as it appeared dull and old. And we kept hearing a weird loud noise coming from the bathroom. I went in to see what the noise was and it was clear the noise was the shower running in the room next door. Although this is a four star hour the maintenance is that of a two star hotel. I had to change rooms 3 times because of mold in the shower and ceiling. The hotel is nice looking and conveniently located on the French Quarter. That being said, there were a few problems along the way. 1) The only parking is VALET. You must park on the street immediately in front of the hotel - in traffic and you'll pay $30 per day. 2) There's no coffee in the lobby. You have to go to a restaurant of settle for the coffee […] in room. 3) The biggest mix-up was getting a pull out / trundle bed for the room. They REFUSE to provide one in a 2 queen room (fire code?) but will provide one (if available) in a smaller more cramped room. Good luck making that work! Have stayed here on many occasions. The location is good and you can walk to everything or hop on the streetcar. The rooms are always clean and comfortable. Great hotel and great location right at the start of bourbon street. Service was the only thing that dropped it down to 4 stars. Housekeeping didn't come to our room by 3pm. We called for new towels that never came, opened the door, & strangely a housekeeper's cart was down the hall so we got towels off of that. At check-in, your credit card is authorized for an additional $50.00 per night to cover any incidentals. If a debit card is used it will display as a pending transaction for 2-7 business days, depending on your bank's policies. If no additional charges are incurred during your visit the hold then falls off back into your available funds. Again, I do apologize if we did not clearly communicate this to you but am happy to see the issue has been resolved.
"A Travel Tip - Call before booking"
The Astor Crowne Plaza is in a great location for a quick trip to N.O. It is close to everything French Quarter, and right at the Canal St and St Charles St streetcar lines if you want to get to other parts of the city. We didn't have a car, so parking wasn’t an issue. The room was spacious and comfortable. There were some very minor problems like a […] broken stopper in the tub. The hotel has a small bar, and a nice restaurant accessible from Bourbon St. Our room had a great view of Canal St. Here is my general travel tip: before you book online, call the hotel directly. Ask what conventions they are hosting. Ask if any facilities will be unavailable during your stay. Ask if they are under renovation. Here's why. When we checked in, we found out the hotel was hosting a swingers convention. I expect a little bit of crazy, like the Red Dress Run that was also going on, but I wasn't expecting THAT. The swingers had the pool booked for a private party, so we could not use it. Management did listen to our concerns, but there was not a whole lot they could do. They pre-arranged for pool facilities at other hotels, but we did not want to walk to another hotel. Any hotel could have any kind of private party scheduled that could prevent you from using some facilities, from a wedding on up. Despite our experience we would stay here again because it was comfortable, reasonably priced, had good amenities, great location, and courteous and helpful staff. The hotel stay was great except for the 48 minute wait to check in. We arrived around 11 am and was put on a call back list if a room became available before the 4pm check in time. Dropped bags off with bell services and went on a walk down bourbon street. No cal,l so we got back to the hotel at 4:10 and got in a VERY LONG LINE. There were only two […] clerks working, with my wife and two kids in tow I'm thank full I had an iPad with at&t service for netflicks cause WiFi was unavailable. Literally took 48 minutes in line. Not happy because it delayed our entire evening. Other than that huge waste of time the rest of the stay was great, the cleark that checked us out the next morning was helpful, and knew about the long lines, said it was common. Very poorly managed. Hotel was clean and housekeepers were great. Hour wait to check in. Line of approximately 30 people waiting to check in and only two people at front desk. We had two rooms reserved and at 5 pm neither was ready until almost 6. The Crown is right on the side of Bourbon Street. Very convenient to the places most people want to go. The staff was friendly, rooms are clean, the paint in the bathroom ceiling was peeling and my tub faucet leak. It's right in the center of shops, clubs, nightlife and restaurants. "Not What we expected"
We had reservations for 3 rooms with 2 queen beds per room. When we arrived we were told one of the rooms had only a King bed. The clerk informed us the Hotel was full. The Clerk promised a roll away bed would be brought to our room. We went to dinner and when we returned around 10:00 PM there was no roll away bed. There was not even room for another […] piece of furniture in the room. To make matters worse the toilette would not flush. I called the desk and informed them. We had to sleep three adults in one bed. The next day we were given another room. This room had 2 queen beds. The commode flushed. However the bathtub faucet leaked and the shower curtain rod was dangling. I would not stay in this hotel again. I will never go to New Orleans again either. The town stinks. Me and my family stayed here for two nights. The cleaning service wasn't that good, the hotel is a little bit old but it has a nice lobby.
