The hotel was not up to expectations - free WiFi is a prerequisite in any hotel these days. The front desk staff was excellent. The elevator that was close to one of our two rooms was very loud. It seems as though you visited when the hotel was at maximum capacity which explains the line at the front desk. I may have gotten the room for $80 but the valet was $40, and this is the only way to park your car. There also weren't any signs to say where you needed to pull your car. Came to town just a couple of days for a quick getaway with the wife and get a good deal on hotels.com but they did change my room type at check in and instead of one king sized bed with premium bedding we were given two queen sized beds with uncomfortable bedding. Great location and price for central location right @ Bourbon & Canal St, as well as going to any of the theaters just down Canal as well. We've stayed several times & of course valet parking will cost you about $40/day as will most in the area. I HIGHLY advise you don't use Crowne Plaza's website with "Best Price Guarantee", though. I believed it & […] did...then found it nearly $40 less @ several other sites. Filled out their Guarantee form which promised reply in less than 24 hours and the room would be free, if priced lower elsewhere. 35 hours later, their reply was they were unable to substantaite the lower price & so no guarantee. I'd purchased the same room/same night which was $40 less & even sent them copy of that confirmation...but nothing back. Luckily, their customer service and hotel manager were kind enough to just cancel the first (more $$) reservation, so everything worked out well...after several hours on the phone. Look around first! "What Can I Say? It's New Orleans"
For the most part the stay at the Crowne Plaza was pleasant. The staff, while not terribly friendly was efficient and competent. The rooms clean and modern, though it would have been nice to have had a refrigerator in the room for left over muffalettas from the Central Market, bottled drinks, etc. My only complaint about the hotel is that on the first […] night we were put into the tower and were given room 520. If you stay at this hotel and are given ANY tower room that ends in "20" refuse it. The "20 rooms abut the elevator shafts and every time an elevator moved it sounded like I was seated in the percussion section of a symphony orchestra. The noise was intrusive and annoying. When I complained the next morning I was assigned a room in the older part of the hotel facing Canal Street. This room was MUCH quieter, though it was very small. I have one other observation to share. While it isn't the fault of the hotel, its location at the corner of Bourbon Street and Canal Street means that you will encounter MANY drunks, beggers, drug addicts and mentally ill pedestrians on the sidewalks around the hotel. If I had been traveling with children or if it had been just women in our group I would not have been comfortable with the street people that hung around the entrances of the hotel.
