Hotel Ludovisi Palace Via Veneto

A short guide to Via Veneto

Made famous by ‘La Dolce Vita’ film in 1960, the Via Veneto is going through a glamorous renaissance. Bars, restaurants, chic hotels and boutiques all vie for attention in the street which coined the expression ‘paparazzo’ – the surname of the photojournalist in the film. Nearby, the Spanish Steps are the place for lovers’ trysts, shopping, and honing the Italian art of ‘dolce far niente’ – idling and people-watching.

Excellent location, close to Spanish steps & a block from wonderful shopping & restaurants. Very good value for the money. We spent 3 nights just prior to Thanksgiving before boarding a cruise ship. The hotel staff was attentive & very accomodating. The breakfast room is pleasant & the food more than adequate. Front desk personnel spoke English & were always available. We will stay here on our next visit to Rome.

We had a room with two beds on the fifth floor. We asked for a non-smoking room but received a smoking room. The hotel was booked so we couldnt change. The staff was very helpful and even tried to locate a place for our friends to stay in the neighborhood. The location is good if you want to be near the Villa Borghese or Spanish steps. The nearest train stop was Barberini which was about three city blocks. The rate we paid was high considering the quality of the room. Being American, we are pretty spoiled by the general quality of hotels in the states. I wouldnt say this was a bad hotel. I just wouldnt pay as much as we did for the room we had if I had to do it again.

The hotel is in a good location, and easy to get around. The front staff are friendly and efficient. For Rome, it is an overall good hotel, and we would stay again. However, the walls are thin, and the 4 star rating in Italy is not equivalent to that in the US. If you want a good clean, convenient location this is a nice place. The breakfast is ok, just stay away from the fresh fruit. There is also a good fruit stand a block away and a travel agent if you need to purchase train tickets, etc-

Ludovisi Palace is akin to a Quality Inn in the US that hasn't been redone since 1980. Carpet was disgusting. Mold in corners of bathroom and shower. Threadbare everything. At check-in, was told 35 Euro per day for the car. Asked about the parking garage I saw signs for and was told it was 29 Euro/day and a bit far away. It was 2 blocks away and 18 Euro per night. Thankfully, scam avoided, and needless to say, we did not ask for any more "help" from the staff. "Breakfast" was inedible - Ex. Nescafe instant coffee from a self-serve machine - this is Italy, right? Don't stay there. Stay further away or spend more money.

Walking distance to all of the major attractions except the Vatican and Coliseum, where a very short metro ride will get you there in minutes. My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and found that it was a good base to visit all of the historic sites of Rome. We walked from the hotel to most of the historical sites with the exception of our trip to the Vatican City which we took the nearby metro to. It is also walkable but our legs were tired!. The staff were very helpful and friendly and our room was clean and serviced each day. The buffet breakfast was basic but good and had enough choice to suit. The hotel did not offer lunch or dinner but that was not a problem as it gave us a chance to sample the food of the many great restaurants around Rome. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others. A perfect hotel for independant travellers wanting to WALK ROME and enjoy eating outside your hotel.

All windows had to remain closed in order to sleep well at all. Guest use computer was not functioning during our 3 day stay and there did not seem to be any attention to putting it in working order. The Hotel Ludovisi Palace was located in a great neighborhood and is clearly a great place for a home base for a stay in Rome. We were sad to leave as the service and condition of the hotel were both great. It was a treat to wake up to the complimentary continental breakfast, and the desk help were consistently helpful and helped us find a tricky address. Loved it!

Our second time in Rome, last year being our first. First time around we stayed at the Hotel Splendide, which was a very expensive 5 star hotel but worth every penny. We decided that this year we would not spend so much on the Hotel and more on our spends!! So we opted for the Ludovisi Palace. What we will say is that it is a warm friendly place, the staff are extremley helpful and you feel "at home". The location is perfect, just a five minute walk to the Spanish Steps and the famous Via Venito just around the corner. Although the room was smaller than the Splendide hotel, it was perfectly compact, so really speaking no complaints just a comparison. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We plan to visit Rome in approx 2-3 years time and we will definately stay at Ludovisi Palace.

This hotel was excellent. We are a family of 4 traveling with two small children, ages2 and 4. The staff was courteous and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable. Our hotel was in an excellent location close to exceptional restaurants and the metro a few blocks away. You can walk to the Spanish steps and easily get to the Coliseum and other major sites. This was also easy to get to from the airport. We took the train and only needed one connection. Breakfast was great with many choices. We would certainly stay here again and recommend it to anyone traveling to the area.

The hotel is on a very quiet street conveniently near the Via Veneto and the Spanish Steps. The rooms are typically sized for Europe. A full breakfast was a nice part of the package. The key system is odd in that you slide a clip into a holder upon entry into the room, which then turns on the electricity; attached to the clip is the key to open the door. If one person takes the key with them, anyone staying behind is left in a room without power.

Our only problem was that our room (and the hotel in general) was extremely overheated. Since our room was at the front, we were unable to keep the windows open at night due to the noise from the street (absolutely silent with windows closed), and even with the heat turned off, it was so warm it made it difficult to sleep. Air conditioning was turned off for the season. Other than that -- great location, extremely clean, gracious and impeccable service, good breakfast and even a complementary cocktail hour.

The location of this hotel was excellent. On arrival the receptionist gave us a map of the main tourist attractions & was very helpful. We walked from the hotel to St Peters/The Vatican which took us around 45 mins (We might not have taken the most direct route) The hotel itself was clean & although it was at the front, on a reasonably busy road it was not noisy & we had no problems sleeping. The bedroom decor was perhaps a little faded & could do with a spruce up. All staff were pleasant. Our flight was not until the afternoon but the hotel allowed us to leave are bags with them until we were ready to leave for the airport. I would stay at this hotel again if I return to Rome

Location was good as we knew when we made decision. Just a short walk to Via Veneto or Spanish stairs. And if you come by taxi from Termini it is cheap and fast because driver can use tunnels via Borgese. Very helpful staff. They advise us how to go to Tivoli by train and recommed also good restaurangs. Breakfast quite okay althought they had some problems with coffee machine.
