Arrived afteer travelling on 2 flights from England - so pretty jet lagged. Only stayed the one night before moving on after a nights rest - it was ideal for this. The rooms were basic and looked a little tired but they were clean. Breakfast in the morning is complimentary and was quite nice for a continental style breakfast. When we asked about somewhere near to eat the hotel offered to take us to somewhere nearby and pick us up again when we were ready. We did this and they drove us to the international plaza where we ate a very nice meal and was picked up and returned to the hotel - a very nice welcome for 2 jet lagged guests!

It wasn't too bad although it is near the end of the runway. The planes stop around 11:00 p.m. and start flying around 7:00 a.m. I had stayed in other hotels in St. Augustine and Ocala and this was our least favorite. For all purposes it was reasonable but I personally like a nicer place with more amenities and would pay more. It was clean but simple. Staff was good!

I will say the location is great and the shuttle driver was extremely patient and friendly. Other than that, the front desk attendant I will not state his name but it starts with a 'Jay' and ends with a 'son' was rude, non hospitable and pretty close to no help at all. Luckily we only had a 5 hour overnight stay between flights so it wasn't a huge deal to have great service. Maybe it's just a Florida thing where people aren't friendly at all, a couple of other guests were also rude, oh well. The room wasn't anything special, small, but had all the amenities (coffee, towels, shampoo, soap... um well that was it, but it was enough for a quick refresher). The room was really smokey smelling, kind of gross, but the bed was comfortable. There was a decent breakfast in the morning but nothing fancy, did the job. With that said, the price was ok, and it was close to the airport. So if you just need a place to spend a couple of hours, should work for you but not a vacation hangout by any means.

I am a physician. In different times I have stayed in very expensive hotels. My wife and I were going to travel to Tampa, Florida to look at a practice where I might move. I just felt that we needed to be sensible and not waste money on a hotel room that we did not need to spend. I looked at the Hotels.com list--saw basically $50 to $200 plus. I figured the expensive ones would be lovely but what about the cheap ones. I read the reviews of some of the cheapest hotels and found clearly a mixture of positive and negative--I was a little uncomfortable. I then looked at the LaQuinta site--already unsure. I read a couple of pages of reviews of LaQuinta hotels whereever but then I found 5 reviews that specifically mentioned the Tampa International Airport hotel. All were very good. I thought this clearly signalled a more positive reaction. We checked in last night. Do not mistake my understanding. This is not a 5-star hotel. At the ridiculously low price we paid, however, the location with respect to the airport is great, no troublemakers driving around outside, quiet after the evening flight cycle, room spotless, even smelled very distinctly of a lemon oil? The linens were clean. The furniture was well-taken care of and the bathroom--my personal nemesis in low-end hotels--was basic but obviously CLEAN. We will be back here in 2 days for one more night prior to flying out of Tampa. As a 57-year old husband and father, I would absolutely recommend that anyone wanting a clean and comfortable hotel come here. Forget the Hiltons, etc. They have nothing on this place. (The internet is free!) Come for one night or two weeks--very upscale restaurant "Oceans xxx?" just 2 blocks away and others apparently nearby. Great place to use as your base for your business or your families visit to Tampa. Just 1 1/2 miles or so from the Raymond James Stadium--you could walk there! Save your money for something else and enjoy your stay here!

I am so glad the Howard Johnson fell through as it was surrounded by strip clubs. The pool was always clean and all the walkways were clean. The security felt good as they had cameras on the parking lot and walkways. This is a bed and comfortable no frill atmosphere. No spas or whirlpool. The service desk was friendly and helpful. Great place for a place to sleep. We had a king bed with a desk and fridge.

Two major, and one minor negative impressions were left by this hotel for me: 1. "Their" shuttle picked us up and, once enroute to the hotel, the driver informed me there would be a per-person charge for the ride (adding a noticable amount to the over-all cost of the hotel). Personally, I wouldn't consider our route's distance excessive or out of the norm either. --We stayed at a different hotel at the beginning of our vacation and that hotel's shuttle was provided as a free service. 2. Our initial room smelled heavily of smoke. We were promtly given a second room which smelled fine. --But the carpet was very dirty; leaving the bottom of my white socks a dark brown color by the time I took them off for bed. 3. Just be aware that there's no elevator. It's only 2 floors though. Not that big of a deal for us. But if you are traveling with heavy bags or something, just be aware of this. Had I known of these facts, I would've certainly paid 25-40 bucks more for a higher quality hotel in the area.

The room met expectations for an average airport motel. However, for two reasons I will never stay at this hotel again. First, the nonsmoking room reeked of smoke. We complained to management and they said that it was probably because there's a smoking room next door to ours (!!??) and a smoker was probably just smoking outside. No, no one smoking outside and it reeked the whole time we were there. Second, as I'm unloading the car, I hear vandals on the property next door breaking into a building. I alerted management who called police. I slept terribly all night because of this. Without these two things, it's probably worth the price, but I think I'll be spending a few more bucks in the future to get a good night's rest.
