"Fine Lodgings Centrally Located"
12/01/13 TheLaughingCavalier Seattle, Washington
The hotel is conveniently located in the center of Edgartown, with its own off-site parking lot a short walk away. This is a historic property that has been renovated and refurbished, but hints of its early 20th century origins as a boardinghouse linger (I found that authentic and charming.) Our room on the top floor was small but well appointed, with a view of Edgartown Harbor. Our room also was adjacent to the hotel's small roof terrace, which offered lovely views over the harbor from rocking chairs. (The terrace is locked at around 9pm, which probably makes sense to avoid having revel makers out there late at night disturbing guests in nearby rooms.) The hotel provides guests with beach chairs and umbrellas, which is a great bonus. A modest, motel-like continental breakfast (juice, coffee, yoghurts, bagels, pastries, cold cereal) is offered in a small dining alcove and outdoor patio off the reception area. Most of the guests seemed to be families with younger kids. Bottom line: This is a comfortable but not super-luxe hotel, but one doesn't come to Martha's Vineyard to hang out in the room all day! If you want to be in Edgartown, this is a very good option.
"Business trip. Very nice place right in town."

Was on the Vineyard for business. Have stayed here twice before and always come back. Clean rooms, Very comfortable bed. Right in town. Nice old building. Well maintained. Stayed on second floor top of stairs. Noise was not an issue. Walking distance to just about everything you need. Little shopping area behind with shops, food, etc. Restaurants are within walking distance. Airport is a 15 minute drive. FYI - drive to New Bedford, MA, fly Cape Air to the Vineyard for $59.00 each way. Great quick way to get out there.

My friend and I stayed at Vineyard Square Hotel for a weekend break. The hotel is in a convenient downtown location with harbor views, close to restaurants and bars. This hotel and staff have thought of everything. Beautifully decorated, and incredibly comfortable rooms are kept impeccably clean. All the staff were friendly and said hello when you passed them in the corridor or at the front desk. The complimentary continental breakfast was delicious and had a lot of variety. There are bikes available for guest to use and really made our weekend. I don't think we would have gone to the effort of renting bikes, having them available was easy and so enjoyable. Don't book another hotel!!! This will make a great weekend beyond excellent.... ENJOY!
"Good for location, not good enough for comfort."

Vineyard Square is very centrally located - in a not so busy street of this beautiful town called Edgar Town. The area around Vineyard Square has all the eating, shopping, cycle hire, boat hire places which are 5-10 mins away. The lighthouse and the beach are about 15-20 mins walk. Chappy Ferry is 5 mins away and takes you to the Chappaquiddick, which is worth the visit. At Vineyard Square the reception staff is great, always cheerful and ready to help. I am sure Edgar town is an expensive place in terms of real estate. Probably that's the only reason that the room-tariffs are so high here. It doesn't have elevators. So if you don't want to climb the stairs, its better to settle for rooms on 1st floor. Though we had booked a Partial Harbor View Queen Suite w/ Fireplace on the 3rd floor But “partial view” of the harbor was not worth it. You really have to convince yourself that yes you can see the harbor. But they do have a common balcony on level four from where the view is much better. Size of the suite is o.k. But there aren't any in room amenities except for a fireplace and 2 t.v. sets. No tea-coffee maker in the room. I don’t remember a fridge, if there was one. They certainly don't have a mini-bar. Bed was uncomfortable and very small. Bathroom was also pretty small. Overall, I feel the room is not worth the money which i paid. I don't know if that's the standard size here. The complimentary breakfast is not worth mentioning. Hard boiled eggs served cold out of the mini fridge. Muffins. Bread. Canned juices not freshly squeezed. Some fresh fruits. Tea. Coffee. The spread might sound sufficient. But when you pay that high a tariff, you feel it could have been better. But whats good is that tea and coffee is available through the day here on the ground floor. They even serve freshly baked cookies in the evening which are great. Vineyard Square has a few bicycles for the guests. Complimentary. But do let the reception know in advance about your requirement as its on first come first serve basis. If you plan to head to the beach do take towels and umbrellas from the reception. The reception staff recommends great places. And as i said, they are wonderful people. Taxi’s are available on call. Let the reception know and they will arrange for one. Wi-fi is free and has a good speed. If you want a breathtaking view of the harbor, do check out the Harbor View Hotel which I discovered on my walk to the beach. This has a great location for the view and the beach is right in front. I really can’t say how good is it as a hotel because I didn’t stay here. And then you will have to walk some more to get to the restaurants or shops as it’s a bit away from all the action. Overall, i wouldn’t call my stay at the Vineyard Square "value for money". But really appreciate the warmth of the people running the show.

We stayed 4 nights in one of the front apartments which are well appointed ,spacious ,and very comfy beds .Shops ,restaurants are at you're fingertips starting with cheskas downstairs where we both had an excellent meal . The staff with special mention of Wes the manager are helpful and obliging .On 2 days we rode bikes provided by the hotel . The only negative is the continental breakfast which is average .

From the moment I first called to inquire about availability until our checkout time, the staff were warm, educated and more than gracious about anything they could do to make our stay more pleasant. Regrettably our stay this time was to attend a family funeral, but Wes and his team did everything to help accommodate us - including offering to walk our dog so that we need not worry about timing issues when we were otherwise engaged with family matters. I cannot say how much we appreciated the individualized attention and care, much more so than I have ever experienced at any 5 star hotel - whereas the others might promote a "customer service approach", it doesn't compare to the personalized and small town feel of this charming inn at the heart of downtown Edgartown. And, while I have traveled extensively and often consulted TripAdvisor, this is the first time that I have ever felt so compelled to make a comment about any stay. Congrats to Wes and his team for truly providing that "neighborhood feel" that reminds you to appreciate when an unknown person bestows a gift of kindness, and you are motivated to pass it forward.
"Quintessential Martha's Vineyard Experience"

We stayed at the Vineyard Square Hotel for a quick get a away. We were pleasantly surprised by the lovely décor and the experienced staff. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite which had the feel of a summer cottage. The bedrooms were spacious and the living room was very cozy with a fireplace and a balcony. The hotel is located right in the heart of Edgartown within walking distance of the beach, harbor, shopping and restaurants. The staff was very friendly and provided great recommendations for local restaurants. This was our first time visiting the Island and we will definitely be coming back for years to come.
"Perfect Martha's Vineyard Hotel for Families"

With three kids all different ages it is hard to find a hotel where we have enough space, it is affordable, and we're all comfortable. Vineyard Square Hotel was perfect!!! The staff was kind, friendly and very helpful. The room was spacious, clean and very very comfortable. The hotel is ideally situated right in walking distance to shops, restaurants and the bus. When we return to Martha's Vineyard there is no question in my mind that we will most definitely stay at Vineyard Square. The hotel is next to an adorable art gallery. Right out front there is a huge sculpture of a boy relaxing built right into the front patio. The kids loved playing on that. There is a huge front deck with rocking chairs to relax or just people watch. Our room also had a balcony. I recommend their suites. We had a two bedroom. It was modern, new and just right size for our family. I give Vineyard Square two thumbs up!!
"Great for a honeymoon"

We stayed in a 2 bed apartment and had a wonderful time. The location is ideal, as it is right in the centre of Edgartown, which is the nicest town on the island. The apartment was extremely well appointed, with a lovely terrace, endless clean towels, great air con and heating and self catering facilities. (One minor quibble was no kettle but they loaned us one for the week). The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and bike hire is free, which saved us a fortune. A basic continental breakfast is included and there is a gym, hairdresser and beauty salon on site. The bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept in. Highly recommended.
"Perfect location, nicely appointed room"
The Vineyard Square Hotel was in the heart of Edgartown, within walking distance to all of the shops and the water. Our room was larger than expected (the hotel website makes no bones about the "cozy" sized rooms) and the bed was comfortable. Nicely renovated and great atmosphere. The continental breakfast was simple but more than enough to satisfy. Note to coffee addicts: there was no coffee maker in the room! The coffee is plentiful and high quality, but you must get downstairs to partake. The refrigerator was a helpful amenity. Overall, yes, the hotel was not cheap. However, nothing is on the island, and I felt the money was well spent. We would stay here again without a doubt.
