This hotel is not a 5-star hotel nor does it try to be, but it is well worth the very reasonable price we paid. it has all the amenities of a top hotel including a kitchenette, which we used to great advantage. Fair warning, there is no flatware or dishware included, but a quick stop at the store for paper and plastic wares and we were in business. […] There is a great variety of fast food and even some higher brow dining within a half mile, too. It's just a 5-minute drive to the 5,8,10,or 15 and less than 10 to the beaches. Highly accessible without being congested. The overall neighborhood is a little run down but not enough to make you think twice. There is a small convenience store right next door with very pleasant attendants. The hotel staff was very helpful and polite. We make a trip to SD every Thanksgiving to see the grandkids and we will stay here each time from now on. Doesn't break the piggy bank but has everything you need. Only drawback I can really note is that the water pressure in the shower is low. Very nice pool and hot tub and the continental breakfast is adequate if not fancy. If you're on a budget but looking for a better than expected experience for the price, I highly recommend the California Suites Hotel. The neighborhood was DISGUSTING! Bums sleeping on the sidewalk outside the hotel. There were strange men hanging around outside the hotel that made us feel very uncomfortable. A woman walking down the sidewalk in the middle of the day wearing pajamas and NO shoes. This place is NASTY!

We stayed here on the recommendation of a coworker. I was pleasantly surprised at just how clean our rooms were. All three rooms had kitchenettes and one of the rooms even had two stove top burners. This is an older, second rate motel with a coat of paint. I've stayed in worse, but i've had much better. Don't bother with the breakfast. It's a joke, even for a motel. The staff was horrible. If you are looking for high class then look somewhere else. If you want a clean, decent room that is close to everything then this is your place. Everyone was very friendly, the pool is nice and the grounds are well kept, landscaped and you are not overlooking a parking lot. The price is better than the Hotel Circle and we were still within 15 min of all the attractions. Our only disappointments where that there was not a TV channel guide and when we called the front desk to ask where we could fine a sports channel, they had no idea. Also, the continental breakfast that they offer is really bad. It starts at 7 am and by 7:15 all the fruit and bagels are gone. The first morning, I asked the staff if there where more bagels and she gave be two but also said that she was saving them for herself. Don't count on the breakfast. You won't get anything worth eating and even if you do, it is low quality. I would definitely stay there again but not count on any extras. Read more
