Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Oct 17, 2009
I guess this used to be one of the only hotels for Westerners or at least, the main hotel. It is in a good location, right next to the "silk market" and close to several embassies. However, it is old and outdated. The rooms are small. It needs to be renovated. There are much better hotels in the area or a few kilometers away that are much newer and nicer, and also "cater" to Westerners. If this is the cheapest place you find and you can't spend $20-$40 more a night, then take it. However, look around for some other places if you can. Let this one be on the bottom of your list.

out of value="5""good summer stay at Jianguo Beijing Hotel"
Reviewed by P of Tromso, Norway on Jun 14, 2009
have stayed twice at Jianguo, both in 2009, summer and find the hotel pleasant and a good bye for the money, except the price of the breakfast (which is at that level in i the mega cities in China) and the price of water in the mini bar (which is 25 times higher the bought in the market). Except these two glitches, a very good hotel, recommended.

The Silk Street market is just two blocks away and thus the location of the hotel is perfect for shopping. Never stayed more than one night at a time but have always been treated well and received good service.

Reviewed by Richard of Chicago on Nov 13, 2008
Had a problem with our hotel booking, got there a day early, left a day early (pretty simple, especially when the hotel had capacity (lots)). Hotel ended up charging us for an 'extra' night, at full rate, even though we left a day early. Received repeated confirmation from the hotel 'management' that the issue was taken care of. Awful Service.

Bad service at this 'business hotel'. I travel often, in China. This was one of the worst experiences ever. Staff was unhelpful, not friendly at all. Not Recommended.

Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Oct 30, 2008
Jianguo used the be THE hotel for Western business travelers. It is old compared to the more modern Chinese 4 and 5 star hotels, but has been nicely refurbished. The overall service was good. My two story room on the executive floor was well equipped (actually, maybe TOO well equipped with some silly gadgets and excess plumbing bathroom features that didn't work properly). One complaint: The executive floor common area is way too small and offers very little compared with executive floor areas in other Beijing hotels...and one kudo: the buffet breakfast was quite good and the wait staff there was very attentive. Metro stop within 100 meters of hotel; the infamous "Silk Market" is 1 block away.

I have stayed at this hotel frequently over the past several years. I have found its quality of service to be consistent and of very good quality. Its location in downtown Beijing cannot be beat, and the location of the China World Trade Towers nearby, with the underground shops, restaurants and supermarket are also convenient for the business traveler. Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to others interested in exploring this area of Beijing (near to such sights as The Forbidden City, and would stay there again myself in the future.
