The Convent Hotel is located on one of the main streets in Amsterdam and within easy walking distance to the Centraal Train station and Dam Square-so public transportation is a snap. The hotel is well kept and the staff is very friently. The one complaint about the staff is that they do not seem very knowledgeable about typical tourist activities in Amsterdam and we didn't find a concierge staff member to help with some of our questions. Our booking through hotels.com did not include the breakfast, which looked wonderful and was expensive, so we found a lovely little care within a block or two from the hotel for our breakfasts. Lots of tours seem to use the hotel, so the staff is very comfortable speaking in English with everyone.The entrance to the hotel faces the very busy street, but the rooms are all in the back of the hotel and are very quiet. We enjoyed our stay. I would suggest trying to get the breakfast included in the hotel price.

The hotel was clean, nice, the staff friendly and helpful, especially the Concierge. The location was great, within walking distance of many restaurants, and things to see in Amsterdam.

Location.
This Amsterdam hotel is near the medical center and university in a quiet, residential east Amsterdam neighborhood. Tropenmuseum and Oosterpark are one-half kilometer away. The Hermitage Amsterdam museum is nearby, and the Artis Zoo is a mere 500 meters away.
Hotel Features.
Hotel Arena is in an entertainment district, with 2 of its own al fresco-dining restaurants, 1 bar/lounge, and a nightclub. The ToDrink restaurant serves lunch, and ToDine restaurant is open for dinner. Hot and cold buffet breakfast is provided each morning. Room service is offered during certain hours, and event catering is available. The hip ToNight nightclub offers 2 dance floors on Fridays and Saturdays in a beautiful converted church building.
Business amenities include wireless Internet access, a computer station with Internet point, and 4 conference rooms for small groups. Limited onsite parking is available (surcharge), with additional parking nearby (surcharge). Roundtrip airport shuttle provided during scheduled hours (surcharge). Hotel Arena has its own nightclub, ToNight, housed in a beautiful converted church building and offering two dance floors on Fridays and Saturdays. The hotel attracts a young and hip local crowd, especially during the summer when the large and sunny terrace of ToDrink is the perfect place to lounge and relax.
Oosterpark 50 metres from the hotel includes a children's playground and running paths. Hire bicycles are widely available throughout the historical centre.

This area is known as Plantage (Plantation) and while its lush parkland has mostly gone, botanical gardens and the small Artis Zoo provide refuge from the hustle of the city. I always stay at Hotel Arena when I'm in Amsterdam. Really beautiful building, great staff and fun atmosphere. Stay at the hip bar/restaurant on premises or venture out into the heart of Amsterdam. It's only a quick train or tram car away.

"Far away from sights and nightlife but worth it"
Probably the best hotel room I've ever paid for, the location is far away from all tourist sites and night life, but it's really quiet, you can sleep you if wanted to (unlike city center). "Retro Modern in less travelled convenient place"
The hotel arena is a converted elderly building in South East Amsterdam, about 20 min walk from central station. It's near to an orange line subway station, though, so it may actually be more convenient than a more central place. "very nice, trendy hotel"
very nice hotel. A bit on the outskirts of the city but still not too far from the fun, if you know where you're going. It's trendy and very romantic -- a great place to bring your significant other. rooms are cool and intimate.

"A Birthday Treat"
The hotel is very modern and with its black and white sleek look, and it comes across as almost theatrical in character! We had a lovely time staying in one third floor suites, although it was slightly annoying that the lift only went up to the second floor and we had to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the third floor. "Very nice hotel."
Nice and clean, very trendy design. the loft rooms are nice. it's a romantic hotel, so I recommend going with your significant other. A bit further away from the city center than I had hoped but the neighborhood is quiet and nice. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Very comfortable but too short!

The hotel is very nice and clean. The only drawback is that when you make shower is quite impossible to avoid that the water floods the bathroom.
The hotel was gorgeous and the room was unusual, it was a really great stay . The only negative point was that the breakfast was not included and too expensive 18eur. ( we didn t took it) . I recommend this hotel, espacially for couple, it s a romantic place.

Myself and a group of 8 stayed in the hotel arena for the weekend. It was excellent. Walk able to the centre or reception booked us a taxi straight away. Rooms were very good. Breakfast was nice but a little expensive.

I have stayed in the Hotel Arena several times, and there is a good reason to come back. A beautiful building, pleasant service, great breakfast, and a comfortable room: this place cannot be beaten. It has all the comforts of a modern business hotel, with ten times the character. Simply brilliant!

Lovely hotel and best bit about our trip..rooms are spacious and clean. fancy bathroom, two tvs! Very big and comfy bed, tea n coffee, mini bar(expensive) The restaurant was great too and had the best burger and chips! Would definatly recommend to anyone
"Hotel Arena - Amsterdam"
The Hotel Arena in Amsterdam is set on the out skirts of Amsterdam's hustle and bustle, but very accessible via the tram system, one outside the hotel to the entertainment district (clubs & restaurants) and one approx 500m to Dam Square. Reading several reviews expressed this prior to booking which attracted me to the Hotel, being quiet, It is also […] walking distance to the centre if you don't mind negotiating the minefield of cyclist! Although the deluxe room we booked was nice, the split level bedroom was a little awkward climbing very steep stairs. The hotel staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Strongly recommend trying the Italian restaurant sign posted outside the hotel, 750m (turning left). Very nice food and very reasonably priced. Read more
"Duplex Rooms"
Hotel staff are helpful and friendly. Location is a bit too far from the center of Amsterdam than I had realised for the price. The biggest problem was the room which was a duplex with an incredibly steep, narrow steps and open staircase (a nighmare if you had been staying with young children). Lovely hotel, but about a 20-30 minute walk into the centre of town, and there is not much in the surrounding area. The bar looked nice but the service was terrible, really slow, we waited over an hour for some snacks, and drinks were slow to arrive. Ny husband and I stayed at Hotel Arena in July 2011. It is super-modern with very black hallways, not our taste but if you like modern this is for you. We found the room also to be ultra-modern - in fact we didn't discover the clothes closet until we'd been there 2 days, we thought it was a mirror! We found the room to be very efficient but cold feeling. […] I wouldn't want to be on a first overnight date with someone - abslutely no privacy in the bathroom. "An unusual hotel"
We had a two-floor room with "living room" area and bathroom on the first and the bed on the second floor. The bathroom had see-through glass walls, which was a little weird. The location of the hotel was good, as well - it was quite easy to take the tram into town, although the check-in/out ticket system is quite annoying.

"Hotel Arena Amserdam"
Very nice, plush hotel. A bit out from the center, a good 40 min walk. No shops near by, so grab something in town if on a budget & you don't want raid mini bar or have the very expensive breakfast...about £18!! You can get a good deal if you stay 3 nights. Overall, nice if you can afford it.

We stayed at the hotel Arena to attend a wedding. The staff were friendly and professional and found us all rooms on the same floor - for our convenience. The split-level rooms were lovely (bedroom on top, lounge area and bathroom on the entry level) clean, quiet and extremely comfortable (although the see-through bathroom walls took a little getting […] used to!) The hotel is about 10 mins from the main Leidseplein by tram 10 or 7, so is a good choice if you want to be on the quieter side of town. Breakfasts were good, although not included in our room rate, which was a pity. There is also a bar/restaurant, which some of our party used and recommended. Overall, a very nice place to stay. "Schönes Hotel"
Sehr schön eingerichtetes Hotel in einem tollen Gebäude. Etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig ist das Badezimmer, da die Wände komplett aus Glas bestehen. Es sieht natürlich toll aus, aber man kann trotz Verdunkelung reinschauen. Das Schlafzimmer auf der zweiten Ebene ist sehr gemütlich und das Bett richtig bequem. Vi ble tatt imot av en ansatt som var vennlig og visste hvem vi var og ga informasjon om det vi trengte. Hele hotellet var særdeles stilig og flott og overrasket oss positivt på alle måter. Vi opplevde luksus som var større enn vi ventet utifra prisen. Rommene var spesielt stilige. Vi har ikke tidligere opplevet tom i to etasjer. Baderom og toalett […] med glassvegger var en ny ergaring men fungerte bra for oss. Sengene var store og komfortable. "Buisness Trip nach Amsterdam"
Tolles stylisches Hotel unmittelbar außerhalb des Stadtkerns. Tolles Design, großzügige Zimmer und sehr freundlcihes Personal. Kann das Hotel nur weiter empfehlen. Wir sind mit einer Gruppe von 7 Kollegen gereist und alle waren sehr zufrieden.
