Location was perfect for getting to the Vatican or to the Pantheon or Piazza Navonna. Room was adequate, but the shower was extremely small.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Near Vatican City"
Hotel staff was helpful; location near Vatican was convenient; room was clean but so tiny we had to keep 1 suitcase in the closet, back packs piled on top of one another. Other rooms (we noticed on our way out) were a comfortable size. Ask to see you room before you get settled in. Would have enjoyed our stay more had we not had such cramped quarters. Very disorganized operation with rooms in two different buildings and coffin sized elevators. The A/C, phones and TV did not work. the location is a bit inconvient as it is 15 min walk to the Metro...and a 20 min walk to the vatican, and Spanish steps, ect.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Room and Location"
We walked to most places from the hotel. Hotel is located only a couple blocks from the airport shuttle bus stop, which makes it convenient for an early morning departure.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
When we checked in at the Hotel Sant Angelo, it took them 45 minutes to process the papaerwork. We had booked two rooms for four adults. We were assured that there was also complimentary breakfast in the morning. We also asked about wifi in our rooms. They told us they would call us in our rooms to give us the passwords for the wifi. After three hours, […] I went down to the front desk and asked about the wifi again. They told me there "guy" was unavailable, and they would get it to me later. two more hours later, I went down to the front desk and was finally able to get it after standing there for twenty minutes. The next morning, we sat down for breakfast, and they told us that one room included the complimentary breakfast, but that the second room was not included!! They wanted the two other adults to pay eight euro each for breakfast! We paid the same rate for both rooms, but they were trying to scam us for 16 lousy euros. We got up and had breakfast at a place down the street. We came back, and it took them an additional 50 minutes to check us out of the room, and then demanded a two euro per person city tax after I had already paid for the room in full through hotels.com. They were very rude about everything, and I would not advise anyone to stay at this hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I booked two rooms. My fiance and I stayed in the annex and our room was spacious, clean and updated. The other couple stayed in a much smaller, outdated yet clean room in the original hotel building. The woman that check us in, as well as anyone we called, was very nice and helpful. I would not take restaurant recommendations from them again but would […] stay at the hotel because the location is great, walking distance for all the attractions. Request the annex! There was no conventional desk, just a small table in a hallway upstairs. They apparently overbooked, so led us a block up the street to another old office building and a room whose A/C "hadn't been switched over yet". Offered to let us see a couple of other rooms in the main building which didn't meet our original request. They were dark and dismal, […] poorly decorated, if at all. Nice and polite young people as receptionists, but could only work with what they were provided by management, which was not in evidence. Scary, tiny old elevators covered in dust served both buildings. Never before provided so little for the price. Twelfth visit to Rome, so have seen a lot. Be careful what you book! "Hotel Sant Angelo - Satisfied With Our Choice"
We chose the Hotel Sant Angelo for a one-night stay in May 2011, prior to a cruise. We selected it based on price and location, in screening rooms with average reviews of 3.5 or better. Our room was not in the main building, but just a block away on the opposite side of the street and we knew to expect that, having reserved it for a slightly lower rate […] than in the main building. We don't have a clear memory of our room at Hotel Sant Angelo now, but we remember it was fine for our short stay, and our option of not including breakfast in our booking worked out well with the convenience of an inexpensive little coffee & pastry shop across the street. Their was a noise that sounded like clanking dishes coming from someplace nearby in the late night hours, but aside from that the room was quiet. The bed was firm and looked like it might not be comfortable, but it was fine and we slept comfortably. The location would be convenient to St. Peter's, but we did not go there until later in our trip. We spent our afternoon out walking through the Piazza Navona and areas around there, which were easily walkable from the hotel. My only negative comment is that we should not have taken the desk clerk's advice about going to a restaurant she strongly recommended on the little Isola Tiberina island on the Tiber River. It was not at all convenient to the hotel, although it was a somewhat interesting bus ride and the food was good. But our complaint was that we believe she misrepresented it, telling us "you will see 20 or 30 restaurants along there" and we could look at all the menus but she strongly recommended "the last one" and instead we got there to find that the restaurant she recommended was the only restaurant in the area at all. We could not find any others either on Isola Tiberina itself or facing the island or anywhere near it. For benefit of doubt, we could have misunderstood her of course, but she was speaking good English and she had repeated the part about it being t Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good affordable hotel"
This hotel is right in the heart of famous attractions in Rome, and is about a 10 minute walk from the Vatican and Piazza Navona. One small negative about the location was that at night, you had to walk about 2 or 3 blocks through an unlit section of the city to get there. I never felt like I was in an unsafe area, but it was dark, and that may make […] some people a little uneasy. Perhaps there would have been a better lit route for us to take, I'm not sure. The service overall was good, but one of the three staff members we encountered was a little rude. The shower was also very very weak, so bathing wasn't easy. Overall for the location, I would recommend this hotel to a friend and definitely stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Happy with hotel"
Hotel Sant Angelo was conveniently located in a very nice neighborhood a few blocks from the western side of the Tiber. The room was clean and though it was on the small side, was very comfortable and cozy. The best feature were huge, beautifully shuttered windows, which afforded lovely city views. My only complaint was that there was no TV in the room, […] even though the hotel's amenities were supposed to include satellite TV. While I did not go to Rome to watch TV, it is nice to have after a long day of walking around the city. When I inquired about it with hotel staff, they said it was broken and would do their best to procure one. After five nights, no TV ever appeared. All in all, I enjoyed my stay at the hotel, and would stay there again if I return to Rome. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Lovely little hotel with lots of character. We were in the annexe rooms across the street, even though we paid extra to be in the main building. The room itself was nice and quaint, what you'd expect from a room in Rome. However, we were on the 4th floor and the lift kept breaking down. The breakfast was wonderful, lots of things there to eat. Staff […] were friendly and helpful. Location is ok, but not very 'in the centre of things'. Definitely stay again. "Perfect hotel for sightseeing and relaxing"
This is a great hotel. The building is charming and in a great location if you don't want to be in the center of things, but within walking distance. It is right next to the river and the lovely Piazza Cavour (great spot for a coffee / cocktail) and there are good places to eat nearby. There is a SPA supermarket, bar, pharmacy, restaurants and an amazing […] gelateria a min walk from the hotel. The rooms were lovely, spotlessly clean with really comfy beds & great air con! All of the staff were welcoming and couldn't do enough to help. We were given maps, advice and were invited to a happy hour in the breakfast room each evening with free wine and snacks. Hotel is within walking distance of the historic center, Vatican City and we found it really easy to get around Rome using the buses & trams near to the hotel. "Our best stay"
Of the 15 places we stayed at during our extended tour of UK & Europe, this was by far the best hotel. The service was exemplary, cheerful and friendly. The reception was extremely knowledgeable and helpful to the point we used one of the 2 PC's for the use of guests to book tickets for the Colosseum and they kindly suggested we use their email address […] so they could print them out for us. The room was excellent as was the extensive choice offered at breakfast. They even provide coffee and pastries for guests waiting in the reception area and invited us to drinks and nibbles at their "Happy Hour." Nice to stay at Hotel Sant'Angelo !!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel is truly situated near main attractions. It took 15-20 minutes to get to Vatican, as well as sights across the river. Colisseum was our 'furthest' sight, and we took the metro (1.50 euros one way). The hotel room was clean...the issues we had were 1) the leaking tub that would make a puddle after each shower, 2) the lack of hot water on most occasions […] (probably best to shower 6-8am to get any hot water) and 3)the constant sound of water in the wall pipes...made it hard to fall asleep...We didn't have breakfast at hotel so can't comment on that. If we were to do it again, we'd stay by Termini station now that we know food there is cheaper and that the sights are all within walking or metro distance. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location and value"
Great for a city centre hotel. We were looking for a decent place with a good price and location - and we got it. Yes - the bathroom is small - but clean. Room made up beautifully every day, air con that was sorely needed! The courtesy tray was a bonus but a little depleted - but we only had to ask for extra and we had it. Three bed room in the main […] hotel - basic, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was an absolute bonus! Not one for spending a lot on breakfast - the cost of 7.50 is well worth it - given the prices in Rome!! (Recently in a hotel in France the breakfast cost 14.50 - we brought our own in!). Excellent choices and loads of it - and the girls in the breakfast room are a delight! And the coffee was really good! I would certainly recommend this hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Clean and good location"
The location was good and we loved the hotel decor, enourmous wooden doors and huge staircase. We stayed in the annex which is only about 10 doors down. kids loved the lift, i refused to go in it! The room was of a good size and very clean. The down side was that the air conditioning was not working (wonder if it ever does) and it was 36c at 10pm, the […] noise outside was too loud to sleep with the windows open (it is the middle of Rome, so it is to be expected) and too hot to sleep with the windows closed. plus we had somehow managed to book 4 of us in a room and the hotel's biggest rooms have 3 beds (1 twin and a single). 2 long nights! I'd stay again without the kids. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed at Sant'Angelo for 2 nights in middle of August. We booked the hotel very early, so we got very good price. First day check in our room was not ready or some other reasons, they put us in a no air-conditioning small room in different building across the street (I guess this is the annexed room which were talked about in their booking website), […] for compansation they give us free breakfast next morning. It was middle of August, no air-conditioning meant very uncomfortable night of sleep. The room was very small, the room was provided with fan. TV remote wasn't working. Shower drain was flowing very slow. The breakfast was good and reasonable priced. The second night, they put us in a fantastic suite with 2 double deds with good air-conditioning. I wish I protested more about the air-conditioning at first night, because free breakfast is not enough to compensate the hot stuffy room and disrupted sleep. The hotel location is very good, walking distance to Vatican City. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Explaining the conflicting reviews"
We took a chance on this hotel and we were happy we did. The problem is that this hotel tries to put people into a different hotel down the street. I think this is the reason that the reviews are inconsistent. They tried this with us but we insisted on staying at Sant'Angelo and they found us a room. Our room seemed to be recently renovated and our […] only complaint was that the room door was too thin and didn't stop hallway noise. "Great for a week long stay"
Great place to stay. The AC in our room didn't work, so we told them and they moved us to a nicer room with working air conditioning. We stayed in the annexe, which is considerably cheaper, and 20 seconds away from the rest of the hotel, the only disadvantage being that you have to walk those 20 seconds to get to breakfast in the morning. Breakfast […] was alright, continental style, but the milk was of course UHT :(. It's pretty central rome, we walked to the Vatican in 20 minutes and caught a bus to the Coliseum (although the bus schedules CHANGE ON WEEKENDS without any indication thereof, because y'know, Italians). its a stones throw from the Palazzio di Justicia (which is pretty showy) and more importantly, 5 minutes walk away from a decent supermarket/deli, which you'll want as the restaurants are fairly pricey. you also get a fridge in the room. "Staff excellent but hotel not so good"
When we arrived at the hotel we were very impressed by the service of the hotel staff, very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately there are 2 buildings for the hotel and we were stopping in the building across the road and down the street which meant we had to walk across for breakfast every day as it was in the main building. Room ok just basic, unfortunately […] they told us the 2 rooms we had the air con was broke so they gave us a fan - this did not really help. Was so hot at night did not sleep well and when we opened the window to let air in the noise from outside was just too loud to sleep. Breakfast was quite nice, plenty of variety. We ordered three nights in a room with a private bathroom. We got a room in the 4th floor of a separate building, which is newer, but with an elevator that tends to get stuck half-way between floors. At the evening, after a long walk in the hot streets of Rome, we wished to take to shower, but only to discover that there are no hot water. The clerk […] told us twice that the problem will be solved in one hour, so we waited patiently. Finally, we had a cold shower. At morning they promised that the problem will be solved, but when we arrived back at the evening, we have been told that nothing changed. We asked for another room, but the hotel was full. As long as we were polite, they insisted that they have nothing to do, even not giving us back some money. But when we raised our tones, they suddenly started to look for alternative hotel. But even then, they tried to give us very bad offers, and it took us half an hour of aggressive argument to get some normal offer. So DO NOT GET CLOSE TO THIS HORRIBLE PLACE. We had a great stay at the Hotel Sant'Angelo. Couldn't recommend the location more, and while the rooms were pretty basic, the staff was helpful. The hotel is situated in a quiet street close to the river but within a 5 minute walk from the Piazza Navona. The room rate included buffet breakfast which had a decent selection […] of hot and cold food. The only downside was that the breakfast room was very small which meant we had to wait each morning. "Hotel Sant Angelo Rome - close to main sights"
The hotel was very hard to find and initially we panicked when we found the annex that was half built and thought this was the hotel! Rooms and beds very comfy. Extra pillows provided on request. Breakfast was lovely - a great choice with lots of fresh fruit. Room was nice with a large TV although no English channels available. Only downside was walls […] very thin so the man snoring in the next room was deafening. Location good nice quiet street but to get a decent trattoria you need to head over the bridge. The restaurants in the nearby area were very expensive. "Great Hotel, Great location, Breakfast disappointing!"
The weekend trip was amazing! We did everything we had planned and more! The location of the hotel was perfect. A short walk to the vatican, nearly next door to Saint Angelos Castle and a short walk to the Trevi fountain, Spanish Steps and the Piazza Navona. Hotel - Ideal location, clean hotel and rooms, kettle and hairdryer in rooms, staff very polite […] and helpful. The downside was breakfast. Dont get me wrong, the continental buffet breakfast was lovely but you had to be there early to see any of it. Our second morning was a 9am breakfast and it was a fight to get the last bread roll. I had to make do with a croissant and ham left behind by the previous guest and share a tea bag with my sister.(we had to clear our own table). I would also suggest bringing your own tea bags as the hotel ran out of black tea, they also didnt leave any in our rooms apart from 2 when we first arrived. By the final day, I had learned to ask for everything. Managed to get breakfast and tea by asking direct, rather than waiting till it appeared on the buffet tables. Perhaps its the Roma Way!!! Overall I would still recommend the hotel but woudl suggest to give the breakfast a miss unless you were prepared to fight for it! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
