Great Hotel. The only negative at all was that they were having unseasonably warm weather and had already switched from air conditioning to heat so the room was rather warm. We were able to open up when we were in the room so that helped though. The hotel is very well situated. Rooms are small but very clean. Staff is very helpful. The breakfast is more than adequate with a pleasant dining room. If you should need any outside services such as tour busses or airport shuttle it would save you some money to book it yourself. We booked a taxi to drive us to the airport and we were quoted 65 euro. […] We found that most taxi companies charge 48 euro for transport to the airport. Same with booking the open air tour bus. You would be better off going directly to the nearest stop. I think it's less expensive and there are several companies to choose from, whereas the hotel is only offering the one they seem to be getting a cut from. Paid in advance for 2 nights, but would gladly have moved after one...bed as hard as a cell and so were the pillows. Steps, steps, and more steps...antiquated elevator, but still had to use many steps! Not for anyone with stair climbing issues. Breakfast was excellent, however (had to go down lots of steps to get there. Do not plan to get into a room […] prior to one p.m.! We stayed at Hotel Ranieri for 4 nights while in Rome on vacation. It's a great hotel with clean, comfortable rooms. Most of the hotel staff speaks English fairly well and they are very friendly. It has some old world charm and a great American style breakfast with scrambled eggs and bacon (great for my diabetic MiL who had been struggling with all […] of the pastries and bread). THe neighborhood is great. There are lots of local restaurants that are open late so don't worry about getting back late from sightseeing, wondering where you would get dinner. It is a safe neighborhood and we walked around quite a bit in the evenings. It's also fairly close to the Termini Station so you could walk or take a cheap cab. You can buy a Roma Pass at the Tobacco store next door which will get you into a couple of sights, free public transportation and discounts on other sights and souveniers (great for skipping the lines at the colisseum). The only reason I dropped the comfort of the room to a 4 is that the tub is fairly deep so it's hard to step into, but it's also short so you don't get the benefits of a soaker tub. It was somewhat difficult to get into for a shower. Also, there is an elevator but there are a number of "half floors" where you can take an elevator up most of the way, but still end up walking down half a flight and then back up half a flight. Some rooms didn't require any stairs, so if you have any difficulties walking, you should be sure to request one of those rooms. Also, the elevator is both cooly retro, but a little annoying. it has a max of 3 people and about 600 pounds so if any of those people are large, they're riding on their own. It was also difficult to get luggage up and down and due to the way the elevator worked it was hard to get it on the way down. It doesn't stop at a floor when someone presses the button. The Ranieri is a small to medium-sized hotel somewhat inconspicuously placed among government ministry buildings on a wide boulevard well-served by public transportation. Of initial importance, the hotel is no more than a fifteen minute walk from Termini Station, which allowed us to get from the airport via the Leonardo Express to the train station […] and from there easily to our hotel. Termini was also valuable for accessing both Line A and B of the Metro. The hotel's front desk is a cramped little cubicle, but was brightly welcoming and always staffed. We spent 5 nights in a spartan little room on the 2nd floor, which the housekeeper kept very tidy for us. Shower water stayed very hot. We used the hotel for sleeping, showering, breakfasting and Internet, and in those categories the hotel performed quite well. The breakfast room was comfortable and attractive, and the breakfast provided surpassed expectations: cereals and yogurt, meats and cheeses, pastries, scrambled eggs and bacon, as well as juice and coffee dispensed from machines. The food got us off to a good start each morning and helped us control our food costs. For wine, salame and cheese there's a fine nearby market, but dining options within a 2-3 block radius seemed limited. Other reviews have accurately stated that the hotel is a little outside of the tourist triangle, or the area that tourist interest encompasses, however the nice tradeoff was the thinning of sidewalk traffic and abatement of noise. This hotel was better than the other 2 close by hotels I was staying at. The first hotel I needed to change because they did not have anymore available nights and had no wireless internet in the room. 2nd hotel had an aweful smell and annoying internet. THe hotel was a bit dated and when we were leaving they were talking out the wash, so with only one elevator we had to walk the 5 flights downstairs, carrying our luggage. We stayed here over the christmas break from the 24th - 28th December. We originally booked a classic standard room but upgraded as the classic was very basic. the upgrade to their deluxe room was brilliant , huge room well presented bath and separate shower , double basins in a huge bathroom. the hotel location was ideal , a short (10-15 mins) walk […] to trevi fountain. We walked the whole time we were in rome even to the vatican and back about 50 min walk one way. There is so much to see and appreciate you do not realise you are walking 20 miles a day :) . Really enjoyed our stay at the hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel was spotlessly clean, our room was modern and very comfortable whilst the hotel retains the character of some original features such as the staircase. Hotel Ranieri was a good position for our trip to the Rugby match, nice and clean and comfortable with a hot breakfast, bacon and scrambled eggs. A short break in Oct 2010 spent at this hotel. Clean, comfortable, staff very helpful and welcoming - helping us select and book a good restaurant for my wife's birthday dinner (the reason we were in Rome in the first place) A bit of a walk from nearest tube station but well served by a bus service with a pickup almost right outside the door that […] takes you into the heart of ancient Rome. Tickets for the bus available at the little shop immediately beside the hotel entrance. The breakfasts were a bit limited - Only scrambled egg and bacon on the hot food side every day, choice of 2 cold meats, 2 cheeses, 2 fruit juices, cereals mixed fruit, plain yoghurt and croissants. coffee etc from a machine, again limited. We were only there for 4 nights so not an issue for us but if staying longer would get a bit boring I think. Free access to internet (pair of computers in the bar) which was useful. It was close enough to the Termini to walk for ten minutes or so with a rolling case and was not a problem. The Trevi fountain and Spanish steps were as near as […] was stated. We opted for the open bus tour, recommended by the hotel. It was worth every euro. We were able to get on a five minute walk from the hotel and then get off and on where ever it suited us. This was useful to get to the Vatican as this was the furthest point from the hotel. It is walkable but we preferred to ride. A great trip, the Ranieri was clean, breakfast was excellent, the staff always helpful. The room was not large but by european standards was not small. The en suite was clean, a reasonable size and towels and shower curtain changed every day. The beds were firm but I have to say this suited us. We were looking on to a courtyard, disappointing at first but then we realised this meant it was quiet so we could sleep, no traffic noise. The air conditioning worked well. As with most european hotels there are no tea and coffee facilities so take a travel kettle if you like a morning cuppa. There is a stocked fridge so milk /water can be kept cold. We discovered a great restaurant 5 minutes walk away called' Andrea' pizzeria. Good local wine and good food, reasonable price for Rome! Enjoy! Read more
