"Great Location, excellent staff"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Stayed here on our honeymoon, couldn't have asked for a better place for the money. The staff was extremely helpful with speedy check in/out. Concierge staff was on their A game the entire time. Room was cleaned daily and very comfortable. The bar was nice but a bit expensive ( but that's London). Vauxhall tube station is only a five minute walk which isn't bad at all. There is a grocery store next door that has about everything you need. Was a great stay.

Home to some of London's most famous institutions —the Houses of Parliament (Big Ben), Westminster Abbey, and Tate Britain— Westminster is busy by day and quiet by night. Buckingham Palace is located across lovely St. James's Park; Whitehall leads to Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery, passing 10 Downing Street and the Queen's mounted troops at Horse Guards on the way. The streets around Victoria Station offer hotels to suit all budgets.

"Georgian Bower House"
A nice little place. The staff was very nice and helpful with local information. The room was small as expected, but very clean. Private bathroom facilities. Easy access to the underground rail and coach (bus) terminal. Nice neighborhood, very safe. Close to Buckingham Palace, but far enough away to not pay a fortune to stay.
"Quaint Building, Good Location"
Not really a hotel, Georgian and Bower House is really a B&B set in several rowhouses in a nice neighborhood, located very conveniently close to Victoria Coach Station (2 blocks) and Victoria Station (3 blocks). We had a booking with the included continental breakfast, which was very good, and we were given the option to upgrade to a full hot breakfast […] for an additional 2.5 pounds. The room was nothing fancy, but was clean (save for the chandelier, which needed dusting badly). The bathrooms are ridiculously small, but functional. There is no lift, but the staff was very accomodating, both storing our luggage due to an early arrival and then moving it to our room when we actually checked in. The beds were comfortable, towels were changed daily, even though some were a little threadbare. Overall the Georgian and Bower House was comfortable (except for the bathrooms), conveniently located, the staff was excellent, and I would recommend it. Read more
"Great Experience"
We stayed here in the family room in the basement area. The room was a great size, clean, and the beds were comfortable. Its located 10 mins from Victoria Station which was very convenient for getting around on the Tube and on to the National Underground. This Hotel was a great deal and I would go back there for my next visit to London.
"toilet"
When I checked in I was surprised that my room does not have a private toilet . I had to use a shared one down the hallway. I don't recall this was mentioned when I booked it online at hotels.com.

"georgian bower"
loved it, perfect location, great helpful staff. It was perfect. Might need earplugs if your a light sleeper because the walls are thin. But it was well maintained, and even had internet, will definitely recommend to others.
"Hotel in London, Victoria area"
The hotel is slightly far away from Victoria station, not as close as what I expected. The location is quiet. The impression of the overall hotel is old because the lobby has not renovated. But the room do look OK. The bathroom is separated from the toilet and both rooms are very small, The sinks are small and you have to lean forward to reach it. The […] shower stall is small which a big person might find it difficult to stretch their arms to get dressed. Read more
"Clean, Friendly and Conveniently Located"
I booked this hotel at the last minute, just hoping I could find something clean for a 1-night stopover in London. This hotel absolutely fit the bill. The employees were extremely friendly and helpful and the hotel is located just a few blocks from Victoria Station, which features coach service to locations all over England. I was extremely pleased, […] though this was likely due to the fact that I'm used to tiny hotel rooms in big cities-- these rooms are very tight, but they are clean and have all the necessities, so as long as you don't go in expecting to be able to spread out, you should be fine. As an extraordinarily paranoid human being, I was a bit nervous about leaving my window open at night because I was on the ground floor, but I think for most this would not seem an overwhelmingly severe risk as the window was fairly high off the ground. One note-- breakfast is NOT included if you book through a third-party site, though some reviewers here mention free breakfast. Read more
"HORRIBLE HOUSE !"
We had spent all summer in great hotels, b and b's and really expected the last 2 days of layover in london area to be the great finale. It was the great fiasco, this place was as dumpy, like a haunted house, attic was our room for 2 nights, breakfast was stale and dis-tasteful. Say no more, it was a complete horror, we managed to get away and walk […] out to fresh air and close to some shops. Read more
"G & B Convenient Location"
Was really more like renting a very tiny apartment than a full service hotel room...but didn't expect more for the price. Very convenient location -- 5 min walk from Victoria Station.
"GBH- 10 min frm Victoria Station in central London"
Milk white linens and towels, good quality but basic toiletries (only body wash & shampoo, no conditioner). Nice location, next to other hotels like Comfort Inn, few doors down the road from where Winston Churchill lived, room overlooking a main street but pretty quiet and nice feeling of staying in central London. However not far from trash receptors […] (a bit smelly at times) on the street. 10 minutes walk from a major station Victoria in central London, with both train and underground option and bus terminal. Plenty of fast food option including hot & cold sandwiches, bakeries & coffee places, Mark & Spencer store for deli type food, a Mall with store for souvenirs. Hotel staff very nice and friendly. A very basic and kind of old hotel, but they do a good job of giving you professional service at the reception and in housecleaning. Small room and bathroom but absolutely no complain because they were spotless clean. I have stayed at execellent 5 * hotels on business trips and dingy cheap ones when a student, and this is exactly what you want if you are looking for professional service, cleanliness, good location, partially renovated but basic hotel. "Georgian and Bower House Hotel"
Very nice hotel just minutes from Rail station. Only downside is we were on the sixth floor and no elevators.

"Five flights, no lift"
The hotel rooms are tiny, but the biggest issue is that it has five floors and no lift, so that's a serious issue if you need to get your baggage up to the top level. Of course this is London, city of a 1000 steps. Otherwise It is clean, the wifi works in the lobby but not from the fifth floor, and breakfast buffet is serviceable.

"An awful surprise...."
Super small rooms.. Awful bathrooms, showers don't work well... many many reasons for NOT going there!
"Friendly & Helpful Staff"
The Georgian House is a small quaint hotel in a quiet neighborhood. The staff were over the top nice and helpful. We asked if they knew of a specific pub and the front desk staff researched it while we were out and left the information about the pub, with specific directions via both tube and bus, for us when we returned. They also brought us breakfast […] to our room in the morning when we had to leave to catch a flight before the breakfast room opened. The most accomodating staff of anywhere we have ever stayed. The friendly and helpful staff make up for any shortcomings the hotel may have (no lift and small rooms). It was also VERY clean. We would definitly stay here next time we visit London. Read more
"a good stay"
We enjoyed our stay, front desk very personable and friendly. Showers are a a tight fit. Would almost be better to have a hand held shower nozzle.
"Great and quaint hotel"
We were hoping for a place that represented the look and feel of the neighborhood, and we found it at St. George House. Bed was great, food was excellent, service superb. Dining area a bit cramped, but easy to overlook. Walking distance to all of Old London. Great city and great hotel.
"GBH Hotel - close to Victoria Train Station"
This hotel was very nice and located within walking distance of the Victoria train station. We walked to the London Eye (about 1 mile away) and back easily. Close to great restaurants.
"Great location. Beware of room 38!"
Depending on the luck on the draw, you can be assigned a great room. Quiet clean and does it's job. On the other hand, if you are assigned room 38. BEWARE: This room is located directly below the lobby and the high traffic hallway. Additionally, it's poorly maintained. A broken fan and an auxiliary water tank make the room sound like a train station. The […] staff, save for a couple of very friendly and helpful people (Monica and another young man), were highly unknowledgeable. At times, they were out right unhelpful. Upon checkout, I asked one receptionist to help me with luggage and was told the was a 2 pound fee, when upon checkin another receptionist was happy to help. Bottom line, it seemed over half the staff was new and not very well trained. This a good hotel with a decent price for it's relative location (Victoria Station). I would probably stay here again given that I am not assigned room 38. Hopefully, the staff will be properly trained the next time I arrive. Read more
"Great experience! Great Concierge!"
We were a family of 5 with 3 adult children. the Hotel was close enough to walk to the Victoria Tube as we flew into Gatwick and used Gatwick Express to get into the City. Hotel Staff and Concierge could not have been more helpful during our brief stay. They helped us plan our way around London efficiently so as to allow us to maximise the number of […] things we wanted to see. I would stay at the Georgian & Bower House Hotel again. Read more
"Small Clean and HOT!"
Third floor walk up, small room with 2 singles and one double bed - No chairs needless to say. Very small but clean & modern bath with nice shower. Open window for air, very hot on 3rd floor. Bit expensive for what we got. There are scores of small hotels and B&Bs int his area, so you can drop in and find a vacancy easily. Good location.
"easy to find"
room was clean and tidy. staff friendly and very helpful. stairway narrow and in need of decoration. mattresses left in hall way outside room. very thin walls between rooms, unfortunately didn't sleep well due to noise from room next door with television noise and coughing during the night.
"Everything you need for a business trip"
I booked the 'Georgian' mainly based on price and location for several days of meetings in Whitehall. Walking down the street to it I was impressed by area, (Pimlico, a few minutes walk south of Victoria station)but was a little worried when I saw some of the other hotels in the area that looked like they needed a bit of a facelift. I needn't have worried […] about the Georgian and Bower house. It had been recently decorated and looked smart from the outside and nicely done within, and the receptionists were friendly and helpful. My room was down a corridor on the ground floor towards the rear and did not have a lot of natural light but with the high ceiling it wasn't gloomy. The room was a good size, with an ensuite shoehorned into the corner. This was outfitted well but was small. I have stayed in rooms very much like this before and they can be a bit depressing but the newly refreshed decor and layout made this room absolutely fine, with everything I needed including the complimentary bottled water. The only slight downside was that my room was right beside the stairwell leading down to the breakfast room, so if you aren't getting up for breakfast or up for business then don't get room 1. With the very comfy bed,a small gift on checking out, and the friendly staff ,I will be returning both for work and with my family. Read more
"Not a 4 star hotel !"
I spend 3 nights in af very tiny room, with no minibar, no hot water in the shower and a very small bed. I don't understand why this hotel has ever got a 4 stars evaluation. London city hotels probaly have their own standards. I was really disappointed and don't hope that Hotels.com has anything to do with the rating.
Nice and clean but bathroom very cramped and awkward room 10.
"Should be a 2 Star"
How this Hotel could ver say it was 4 star or how it got this rating from Hotels.com i don't know, the place is a dump. No Bathroom, internet not working and basic hostel furniture DEFINATELY NOT 4 STAR AT ALL
"Best staff imaginable, but the hotel needs work"
The hotel staff are without equal. They are genuine and lovely people - and whoever does the hiring there certainly knows what they are doing. But when I arrived at the hotel I learned not every room has an en suite (so be careful with your booking arrangements!!!) and while I was fortunate for having been able to upgrade to an en suite arrangement, […] I was sorely disappointed by the thin walls and the level of noise from the adjoining room. The room was as clean as it could be, but the carpet, the curtains, and the furniture all seemed tired beyond the years I would expect of a hotel claiming 4star status. Read more
"Wifi"
The wifi in the main building is OK - but not perfect, however in their other building (Bower House) it didn't work, and I was told they frequently have problems with it. Also the room in Bewer house was cold. On the other hand the room was nice, and the location is very good. Not a 4 star hotel as shown - but a good deal for their prices.

"Hotel Geogian & Bower House"
Very nice rooms. Friendly and helpful staff. Not so far to a top class pub (Cask Pub & Kitchen, rated highly by CAMRA). We had a room on the top floor, no elevator, 96 steps from the breakfast room to our room. Good exercise!!
"Good value in prime location"
Rooms are very small and compact but well maintained and comfortable with modern bathroom. Complimentary wireless internet worked perfectly. Excellent location close to Victoria in quiet neighborhood. Helpful staff and very convenient for exploring central London.
"Georgian and Bower House Hotel-Not the Best"
Great location and lovely friendly staff, but hotel itself was tired and had a funny smell in the common area with bags of towels thrown in the hall. when we returned to our room there was a false nail on the dressing table obviously from a cleaner or previous guest. The bed and shower were good but i wouldn't stay again. Def not 4 star accomadation […] ! Read more
"Excellent location to see London"
We stayed at the hotel in order to be able to visit London attractions. The location was great, easy to get buses & subway. The room was small, it was clean & sufficient to get a good night's rest. The staff were friendly & helpful. I would recommend it to others & I would stay there again. The breakfast room was clean & the food was great.

"Not 4 Star quality"
Room was the smallest I have ever Stayed in and the noise from the room above came right through the ceiling. First day there was NO water in the room because of maintenance which they didn't tell me. It was a good price but it didn't live up to the desceiption at all.

"Georgian and Bower House Hotel in London, England"
The location is very central, about 5-10 minutes from Victoria Station (rail and underground, and less than 5 minutes from the bus station). - The room was clean, but very small, even for a single. It was a good use of space and since I was out for most of the day, the small factor didn't bother me. I'm petite (5 ft & 115 lbs), but anyone much larger […] will find that particular room too small. From the pictures posted the rooms are very different, in both decor and size, so this review applies only to the single room. - The shower pressure was good, surprisingly. However, the water drained very slowly, so I found myself using a lower water pressure to avoid flooding. - There was noise from the street, but as a city person I'm used to this, anyone from suburban or rural areas might find the noise to be a problem. - There are no elevators so luckily I was only 1 flight up, even 1 flight might have been awkward for me if not for the reception staff who were more than willing to help me with my bigger/heavier bag. -Reception was also very helpful with helping me arrange the airport shuttle. Overall, I was happy with this choice. Although I found it odd to be staying at a B&B that ddn't provide breakfast (or who provides breakfast at an additional charge). As it was I decided not to try it and ate out for all meals. Read more
"Acted when a problem arose"
I had a problem with the room one morning, but it was immediately addressed and the follow-up was excellent - they really went out of their way.
"Georgian & Bower House hotel"
The hotel was very friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and clearly recently refurbished, with good bathrooms. The only downside was that my single room was tiny... but with just enough room for a 2 night stay.
"A nice area to stay"
The staff were extremely helpful, the room very clean. I would definitely stay again. I even got a mini box of chocs when I left.
"Nice staff but hotel average"
Good location near to Victoria Station. No lift, so be prepared to climb lots of stairs. Bathroom minute. If you're obese there's no way you'd fit between loo and sink! Very comfortable bed and good to have safe and kettle in room. Tiny TV with poor quality picture. Breakfast was good, but again the dining room is small so you may have to wait or share […] a table. Probably expensive for the quality of furnishings etc. Read more

"Georgian and Bower House Hotel"
This hotel is conveniently located about 10-15 min walk from Victoria Station. The room we had was on the top floor (4 flights of stairs). We were not given the option of a lift, so presuming there might not have been one, but worth asking just in case. The room itself was small and compact (we had 3 sharing), which is what we expected from having read […] other reviews, however it was clean and tidy. The bathroom was new but very small, especially for 3 of us sharing. Breakfast in the morning was included for us and was continental we had the option to 'upgrade' to fully cooked. There was a good choice of cereal, fruit juice, toast, fruit, tea and coffee. Read more

Excellent value for money. Friendly staff and very comfortable, clean room. Only slight problem was having to climb three flights of stairs. Apart from that..full marks.
