The Stedelijk is largely cutting-edge post-1945 art. The Van Gogh is home to 200 of the artist’s paintings. Nearby Leidseplein is the centre of Amsterdam’s more raucous nightlife, with famous clubs such as Paradiso and Melkweg. By day, visit the Art Deco Café Americain.

Hotel Blyss was very enjoyable. The staff was helpful from the time we got there. The location was perfect in proximity to all the sites. A tram stop is right down the block from the hotel. The room cleanliness was great. They had a fun selection of local and English channels on a nice flat screen t.v. However they did charge 7 euros per person for breakfast which we declined. Also wi-fi costs 5 euro per hour. The shower leaked all over the floor, but it wasn't that bad, just keep your clothes off the floor. We ended up having two twin beds pushed together with separate sheets and blankets for each one, which was an inconvenience for us. Also we had to ask around to find the place at first because it's not on a main road, it is a block and a half away from one. Overall Hotel Blyss is a 4 star hotel for the money.

Room was much smaller than in website photos. Recently renovated but room didnt reflect this. They put us in a tiny broom closet in the basement, elevator doesnt go down to basement. The desk staff acted as if they'd never checked anyone into their hotel before. Phone in the room but was told not possible to make even a local call. They told us internet would cost extra but there is actually free wireless in the hotel common areas. Bathroom was small and gross.

Whilst the lobby area gave a good impression, this soon evaporated when I got to my room - dirty carpet and walls, and even some of the bedding. Mould on the bathroom ceiling, tired furniture, etc. The bar in the pictures on the website is no longer there - it has been replaced by a smaller one 'staffed' by the receptionist (serving beer from cans out of a fridge). I have stayed in 2 stars in Amsterdam that were nicer than this.

Absolutely the worst hotel I've ever been (among the hundreds I've seen). I don't know how they got even 3 star rating.
