I wish we had been told the restaurant was closed for construction. Additionally, the front desk staff were not very helpful. You cannot check in even 1 minute early even if a room is available. Also, if you request a roll away bed; it may take 6 hours to get (I got mine at 10 PM even though I requested on the phone, early in the day before check in […] and at check in). "Fantastic location, disappointing room."
I hate writing poor reviews but occasionally they're necessary. First the good stuff... the location is magnificent butted right up against the state park. The access and parking were more than ample. Never any difficulty finding a spot within an easy walk to my room. The gal at the table was pleasant but odd. I had asked for a room with any window […] looking outward which she simply ignored and gave me a room facing the courtyard. I commented again on the choice of rooms and she again ignored my question. It was odd. She never said there were no other rooms or anything, just ignored my request. I got the distinct impression that a discrete $20 may have made a difference. Something I don't do, so I let it go. The room was directly in front of a jacuzzi, hidden by a large white fence. It was filled with guests and of course the area reeked of bleach. I went back to registration and asked for another room, and was then told they were booked solid and I could upgrade to their "reserved room" for premium cost. Oh well, nothing to be done about it except not spend too much time in the room. The room was fine except the carpet was severely stained or dirty, making it slightly icky to walk barefooted... and there was no air conditioner. Instead only one small window that opened to the jacuzzi area. I will still recommend this place to my friends because the location is untouchable... but off season only and never on the ground level facing the courtyard. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Views, Average Service and Rooms"
This hotel has a beautiful setting and incredible views. It is a bit dated but getting renovated. I have traveled a lot and am used to getting a late check out without a lot of hassle. They offered 11:30 instead of 11 and said anything after 12 would incur a 1/2 room rate. Very inflexible and rule based instead of customer service based. It is a great […] for a night or two getaway though because of the setting and views. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Rooms and bathroom were too small. No space to place toiletries in bathroom also tile color is black. You can never tell if it is really clean. So I was really grossed out thinking that housekeeping don't really have to clean it well since no one can tell either way with this tile colorGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The perfect Morro Bay location"
My room was described as partial bay view, but in reality it offered a sweeping view from Morro Rock to the southern estuary - the only things that rendered it "partial" were distant palms trees eclipsing the rock and a bit of aggressive landscaping off the balcony. The room was delightfully large and uncluttered with tasteful furnishings and a gas […] fire (which wasn't needed). The Inn is right right next to one of the protected bird sanctuaries, right across from the golf course and access to hiking trails, just down the road from the marina and museum, and only far enough from the embarcadero to spare you the traffic. Unfortunately the restaurant at the Inn, which was excellent in the past, is closed for renovation. The only significant negative is noise - perhaps because the location is so quiet, conversations in adjoining rooms and banging doors seem particularly magnified. Still, very appealing accommodations in a very beautiful location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Beautiful room, clean, good continental breakfast. Unfortunately they were remodeling during our visit but upgrades are a good thing. Great location a little away Fromm everything so you can not walk but away from the crowds which I love.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel has no services such as restaurant etc. Breakfast was poor. Bathroom door should not lock when leaving the room. The zinc in the room does not serve any purpose. Not enough surface space to put things down in bathroom. Price is too high.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Partial bay view"
Staff was friendly. Decent hotel with bay views (if you choose) and a little viewing deck to make relaxing near the bay easier. Room was clean and comfortable. Fixtures seemed to be mostly updated. Very small shower (almost cruise-ship style) but everything else was normal. Continental breakfast was a bit lacking, but considering we didn't know it even […] came with breakfast, that was a nice surprise! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Inn at Morro Bay"
The staff were courteous and polite however, I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the room. The carpet was covered with stains and I saw old sunflower seeds and lots of dust in areas that should have been vacuumed. The area was beautiful and the breakfast consisted of some yummy scones.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
A pleasant memory in deed. Hotel is in great secluded location right between the ocean and the Morro Bay Golf Course, but just a few minutes driving to the Embacadero and downtown area. Hotel is in good condition and still partially under renovation so expect for even better. Staffs are really helpful and friendly. Would recommend to a friend.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not the excellence we remember from past visits."
It must be difficult to undergo the changes you are planning. Three areas have especially suffered: We loved your fine restaurant, excellent waterfront pub, and expert receptionists (the single individual working reception seemed overwhelmed). Best of luck for the future!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Pleasant setting and good quality of accommodation but it would have been better if effects of the renovation hadn't detracted from the stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice view. A few steps away from the water."
The hotel was under construction, so it was hard to find the front desk. We were lucky to get an oceanfront room, just steps away from the water. The building shows its age, but there was obviously some effort in restoring it. The room and the bathroom were clean and simple. There was no A/C vent, although there was a thermostat on the wall (we were […] wondering if we were changing the temperature in a room somewhere ;-) A/C was really unnecessary as it was 62 degrees there at night during the summer. We just had to keep the windows open. Since the windows were open, I'm not sure how secure it is as there was only the electronic lock (no door chains) that can be easily opened from the inside. The concern was that the open window is only a few inches away from the door. The only barrier was the screen on the window. I think this should be addressed by management. We also called for extra pillows, but nobody came--at all. Overall, we loved the view. Nothing beats waking up in the morning, looking out the window, taking in fresh air and seeing wildlife out in the water. That's why despite of my security concerns, I rate this hotel generally a 4. "Peaceful setting, but watch for birds!"
The Inn at Morro Bay is located within Morro Bay State Park. It is a quiet place surrounded by tall eucalyptus trees and a bird sanctuary to the south. Our car was covered by overnight condensation from the trees overhead, leaving tea-colored stains all over. Fortunately, they had a car wash station with a bucket, soap, and hose near the parking lot. […] The handyman saw what we were doing and lent us some towels to dry the car after we washed it. He told us the bird sanctuary can be a problem too, so you may want to park in the northern parking lot. The ocean view is minimal, obscured by a breakwater. The Inn is really not close to anything. You will likely need to take your car to go into town for a restaurant. There was construction during our stay, so I'm expecting the Inn to be to have a restaurant next trip. The Inn is a motel structure, but we didn't have any noise issues as some have posted. The rooms are simple. We found the bed to be comfortable, but it only had two soft pillows. What do you do if you need a firm pillow? Most places we stay tend to have a wider selection of pillows. There is nothing we have against making a return trip to the end, but I can't think of any reason why we would return. It would be nice if there were waves from the shore that would soothe us into sleep, but that's not happening there. However, if we planned our trip around activities at the state park, then the Inn is a perfect place to stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel is under renovation. Call hotel for updates."
I made our reservation months ago. We were not informed that the hotel is under renovation. Part of why I made the reservations at the Inn is that they had a nice restaurant and bar on site...these were closed due to the renovations. The room itself was alright, but a bit hot and stuffy. The windows are down low so you can see the bay but the shutters […] they have block much of the ventilation and cannot be fully opened because the bed is placed right up against the shutters. We were disappointed with our stay here, especially considering there was no discount for having to put up with the renovation construction. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good refurbishment ... but needs a/c"
The hotel was recently refurbished, and the rooms are clean and modern. The location is good, with nice bay views and easy access to the golf course. The biggest problem was the lack of air conditioning. For July, this far south, I think air conditioning is necessary. One other minor concern, was that I could not get an itemized credit card receipt […] because this was "booked through a third party" ... that's inconvenient, and I have never encountered this anywhere else. "Beautiful location, right on the water."
The hotel is in a park with golf, a great bird sanctuary, along with walking and biking trails all around the hotel. The hotel is under renovation, therefore, I can't comment on the restaurant facilities but the rooms could use some updating. The bathroom has no counter space and I didn't like the black tiles in the shower, no tub. The breakfast is […] modest with rolls, scones and bagels, no hot food. "Relax. relax and enjoy."
My wife and I enjoyed the tranquility of the hotel. Watching the birds, the pelicans soaring and diving into the backbay, the harbor seals trolling the waters was a enchanting experience. The deluxe suites provide a excellent view of the bay. We have stayed here before and the staff is very accommodating. The best place to stay in Morro Bay.Genuine Expedia guest review

Morro Bay Inn nice place for quiet beach town. Can ride bikes to main harbor town area and Morro rock. Place to rent kayaks about 3/4 mile down the road near cafe. "best view of bay and Morro rock in town!"
Very nice staff went the extra mile to book massage and restaurants in town. The view from our room and the deck outside the room was spectacular of Morro bay and the famous rock. The Inn is set just inside the grounds of a state park and is gorgeous. The Inn's restaurant was under construction when we were there so we weren't able to try it. Our room […] was clean and nice, no bathrobes and scant courtesy soap and shampoo, but overall a very nice experience. We would stay here again. "Nice hotel right on the water!"
We had a very nice stay at this hotel. Hotel is right on the water and is close to downtown area as well as right across the street from the golf course and Morro Bay State Campground. Room was comfortable for the three of us; 2 adults and a 3 year-old. Bed was very comfortable and room was decorated nicely. We were pleasantly surprised to find that […] there was a mini-refrigerator and sink in the room along with a coffee maker. This came in very handy. Hotel lobby and restaurant were currently closed & undergoing remodeling/construction, but the check-in was easy. And though the restaurant was closed, a nice continental breakfast was provided each morning in their conference room. "Overall ok, but some negs this time"
We've stayed at this hotel before. There were 2 negs this time: Our in-room refrigerator was not working, I had to pull out the unit from the cabinet and find out that the electrical plug was not plugged in. The TV was small, too small for the rather large room and the remote could not be used from the bed. The TV was also inside the wall above the […] fireplace and was hard to see from the bed. There were also a lot of spots on the carpet. There was construction going on at the lobby, but the hotel staff called us before our stay to warn about this and also offers a15% discount on the next stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Just returned back from a 4 weekend getaway. Spent 3 nights at Morro Bay Inn with 2 girlfriends. Rooms were a bit small and no counter space in bathroom. First night jacuzzi was broken, but customer service desk was awesome, they apologized and gave our room a 10% credit. 2nd day in morning, electricity in hotel went out for 2hrs which made it difficult […] for us ladies in getting ready for our day trip to Paso Robles. All 3 nights strong odor seeped into our hotel room from outside, strong cat litter smell but may be from all the birds in area. Nice location but this will probably be my only stay at this hotel. "Overpriced and disappointing"
Room had no desk to open up a laptop, bathroom had no counter space to put toiletries. Walls are paper thin so hope your neighbor does not snore (mine did). One day they forgot to service my room. Drawer in the room stayed closed by jamming a piece of cardboard, bed sheets were old and frayed. Will never stay there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"No bathroom counter or shelves"
I was disappointed because there was no bathroom counter, so I had to put toiletries on the TV console (had to go in and out); no shelves that the towels are placed on the toilet tank. In addition, the hotel is advertised as having a heated pool (one of the reasons my sister and I each booked a room here), but I was told when I checked in that the pool […] is not heated. "Fireplace in room a plus"
We enjoyed our stay here and will definitely come back. I would pay extra for ocean view room next time as my friends had one and it was truly a great view of harbor and Morro Rock. The Continental breakfast was a little disappointing, just sweet muffins, apples, and boiled eggs! Should also include yogurt and bananas for us healthier eaters. "Quaint but not a good choice today"
The first night, there was a party next door that we finally complained about at midnight and they shut it down. The restaurant is being rehabbed and not available, options are a long ways off. They didn't have a microwave and after our request brought up a mini fridge. Housekeeping left the patio door open giving access from the second floor patio; […] they didn't replace coffee stuff on two occasions. "Fell Short of Expectation"
1. Check-in was brutal because it was so hot, but the gentleman handling our reservation was nice and very efficient. 2. Radio did not work - had to get a replacement - but that was handled timely. 3. Shower drain drained very slowly so had to stand in water while showering. Didn't report that. 4. Bed was TOO HARD! Slept very poorly and woke up the […] next day very store and in pain. ONE of the reasons we won't stay there again. 5. Sunday morning a Housekeeping male associate walked right into our room at around 9:30am., not even after check-out time of 11:00. This could have been quite embarrassing. Fortunately we were not in a "compromising position" - after all, it was a "romantic getaway." Told him to come back later. Then he walked in again at 10:45am - and again, not even after check-out time of 11:00am. Told him we would be out in about 15 minutes. 6. One minor thing - usually a hotel provides a small plastic shower cap. Did not find one in the basket of ammenities. Needless to say, the stay was one bad experience after another so won't stay at this hotel again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"2 nights in Morro Bay"
This Inn is in the park and far enough away from the main front street to feel like you are really out in nature. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the room. The Bathroom could have had some place to set things down - it was big enough but very minimal in counter space. The room itself was very spacious and nicely appointed. There was an […] annoyig generator sound in our room that kept going on and off - never knew what that was about. The restaurant and lobby were under construction but caused no real issue. The bird sanctuary next door was amazing as it was nesting time for Egrets, Cranes, Hawks and many other birds and there were thousands of nests. The only drawback to this is the droppings that hit your car and covered the walk-ways. But they provide a hose and cleaing equipment so we just cleaned up the car before we left. We also had a lovely view of the bay and the surrounding park and golf course were very pleasant. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The food & beverage facilities are being remodelled so no bar or dining room until later in the year. Which is a shame as the bar used to be amazing - a wonderful view of the harbor and the rock. "Beautiful location and loveley service."
The inn is tucked just outside of town by 2 minutes, with a quieter elegance and view of the bay and golf course. The food and beverage rooms are undergoing construction at this time, but I have no doubt they will be pefect, as well. The clientelle is good and I would have expected only 2 additional items. The bed sheets were exceptionally rough with […] pilling and not comfortable at all. Standard hotels also offer a small hair conditioner to go with the shampoo for travelers. It costs pennies and would be worth it. I would still highly recommend the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
